BILLIONS SPENT ON NEW GOVERNMENT SUPERJUMBOS
The Social Democrats call into question the expense of a new fleet of governmental aircraft, as the first ‘Superjumbo’ is delivered.
The four new luxury four-deck aircraft, nicknamed Superjumbos have caused controversy ever since the Ministry of Defence announced order over a year ago. At 350 million each, with interiors designed by the renowned Flix and Barr Ltd and rumoured to carry highly classified communications equipment and a complete strategic operations room, these planes represent a significant upgrade of the Royal Fleet.
Whilst there is widespread agreement that the aging fleet of DC-6 aircraft (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Ardco-dc6-N9015Q-fox-030725-01cr.jpg) presently used by the Royal Family and senior Government officials desperately needed replacement, there is criticism at the expense of tax denarii on some of the luxurious features included which would even seem out of place on some of the highest quality private jets available on the market.
“Why does the Government feel that it is in any way appropriate for simple, law-abiding taxpayers like us to pay for their jollies all around the world – I mean, solid gold toilet seats? Really?” said Dave Chamelienne, the leader of the opposition Social Democrats, on the Bruxelles Tonight programme last night.
We contacted the MoD for a response, and they provided the following statement: “The Government is certain that all Bruxellans would agree with our desire to ensure that the Sovereign Kingdom is taken seriously as a contender on the world stage. The current DC-6’s which the Government and the Royal Family are currently required to use are archaic – even the Clandonians (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ac/EC87-0014-8.jpg) are laughing at us!”
Another high-ranking ministerial official added: “We’ve had to fly SimpleJet! Do you know how humiliating that is? They fly PINK planes! PINK!”
We here at BRUXNEWS 24 made it our mission to be the first to bring you interior pictures of the new planes…and here they are!
