Introduction:

This is a complete account for The Magocratic Dominion of Helthay, The last civilized realm on the Northern continent of Vel Mortha. A land teeming with barbaric monsters and evil sorcerers that stalk the endless trek of forests and hills of the central part of the continent leaving the in the Helthayvian people at the mercy of their cruel raids and vile magics. It is after several hundred years of this kind of negative exposure to the chaotic and destructive nature of magic that the common people of Helthay have become very paranoid of the arcane arts only allowing their own wizards the right to practice the art of arcane magic to be used against rival mages and vile sorcerers seeking to use their vile arts to harm or destroy the Helthayvian people …

Trade: The Helthayvian people are always eager to trade with lands outside of Helthay mostly to gain to influence and power within these lands with the goal of eventually finding a way to dominate them latter either through force or by influencing the leaders from behind the scenes and behind closed doors. The biggest trade factor in Helthay is slave trading, and the dealing of magic both in terms of arcane spells and enchanted items like weapons and armor.

Society: Helthay is a strict hierarchal society were the most powerful Archmages and wizards are considered the ruling elite and the non arcane practioners are given a lesser status in Helthayvian society. The fear of uncontrolled arcane power is also another cornerstone of Helthayvian society and the reason why the wizards currently hold power. The wizards use their abilities to supposedly protect the people of Helthay from the magic of rival spell casters and wizards that would seek to wreck havoc on the Helthayvian dominion. This fear is what has created the Arcane Inquisition and also the Grey Wizard order of Helthay. The Grey Wizards are the agents of the Arch Mage Lords and use their powers to enforce the will of their superiors often arresting or killing any and all that resist.

The other major factor of Helthay society is it's great militantism. Helthay is located in a very dangerous land teeming with barbarian and orc tribes seeking to raid and pillage the local villages and towns on the outer borders of Helthay giving the nation a need to build a large military force to combat this threat. The Helthayvian Mage Lords have thus created personal standing armies or legions from their home provinces to combat these threats along with the hiring of mercenaries and sell swords from orcish and goblin tribes. This constant state of military build up and magical lockdown has also given the rise of slave trading as hundreds of Prisoners of war and captives from raids on rival nations are constantly being bought and sold across the Dominion increasing the wealth of the Helthayvian people and providing additional revenue for their ever expanding war chest...


Religion: Religion in Helthay is practiced mostly by the common folk seeking protection from the dark forces that constantly threaten to consume them into darkness. The Helthayvian people do not have a united religion but the Grey Wizards tend to look down upon occults and more foreign religions which could be influenced by other magical creatures like demons, dragons beholders etc. It is because of the Helthayvian paranoia of being infiltrated by foreigners that many religious organizations are banned and hunted down and many churches have been forced to go into hiding in the deep forests and hills of Vel Mortha.

Pre History: 1 BF (Before Fall)-300 AF (After Fall)

The Nation of Helthay was originally founded and settled some nine hundred years ago after the fall of the ancient and powerful Xanakosh Empire. This ancient Empire was considered the most powerful human empire in existence at it’s time and even the Elven High Lords feared these humans and their great power in the art of arcane magic. The Xanakosh had an almost godlike power and could create magical fortresses that could fly and they even could bind dragons and demons to their service with but a few simple words. This power had a price and when it came to time pay the Xanakosh Empire fell and hit hard to the ground so to speak.

The magics that had formed the heart of the empire had been struck down by the fearful gods that had created world. The gods fearing their creations would usurped them with their growing power struck a harsh blow killing many of the Xanakosh humans and leaving the survivors scattered and frightened. It is believed that the Helthayvians are in fact the descendants of the ancient Xanakosh and as such explains their well preordained nature to bind the arcane magics to their will and use them to their own purposes. The nation of Helthay was not alone after the fall of the Xanakosh and many of the Xanakoshis’ servants the goblins, orcs and even dragons settled on the continent of Vel Mortha forming clans and tribes that would eventually harass the Helthayvian settlers with their warlike raids, fearsome shamanistic magic, and vile sorcery.


The Helthayvians suffering constantly from attacks became highly resentful of the outside world and many of the commoners placed their allegiance to the wizards of Helthay in exchange for their protection entering the rise of the Mage lords.


Era of the Mage Lords: 300 AF-600 AF


The land of Helthay was still chaotic and ravaged by barbarians at every corner but now the people were starting to fight back against the outsiders and in a lot of cases against each other. The Mage Lords were powerful wizards in their own rights but they divided up the country and formed their own private fiefdoms and began building massive armies to wage war against their many enemies. The Era of the Mage Lords is one that lasted in blood, as thousands of Helthayvian Warriors, Knights, and even Wizards marched to war to fight the ever present dangers of Vel Mortha. It was during this time that a hero was born into the world during this era of violence and blood. His name was Mavis Delasano and his deeds and power would become legend in the following years. The country also gained a large track of land as barbarian tribes and rival nations were pushed back by the now militant and battle hardened Helthayvian Legions…



The Rise of Dominion: 600 AF-Present

The Nation of Helthay had finally gained a measure of respect from their enemies whom use to consider the Helthayvians a weak and cowardly people. The era of the Mage Lords had shown a battle hardened side to the Helthayvians and many goblin and orcish tribes began to fear the power of the Mage Lords. The Mage Lords however were squabbling and arrogant constantly fighting each other and forming shaky alliances with each other just to break them at the drop of a hat. This time had brought much loss of life as almost Byzantine like plots were becoming more common place and soon suspicion and fear began to spread as arcane magic was starting to get wild as Mage Lords would battle each other with their might magical powers living large paths of destruction in their wake. Mavis Delasano at the time now an accomplished wizard and powerful adventurer used his power to combat the enemies of the Helthayvian people and started to form an army of mercenaries and allied wizards. This army became infamous for their fearsome combat skills and were eventually recognized as the most feared military legion in the country.

This prestigious title gave Mavis even more political power among the Mage Lords and so the young ambitious wizard chose to finally become a Mage Lord with his new found wealth and power. Mavis without orders or incentive of gold marched to Doom Hold. The home of the most feared Mage Lord in the nation known as the Vampire Queen Allasandra Delacora. This powerful Vampiress was the first Vampire in Helthayvian history and had the reputation akin to Dracula or one of the many other Vampire Elders at the time. Mavis and his army laid siege upon Allsandra’s fortress and in the end a great battle was fought between the undead armies of Allasandra and the fearsome mercenary forces of Mavis. The battle was epic to say the least but to make the story short. Mavis using his powerful magic destroyed Allasandra’s body and bound her soul into his staff to enhanced his own magical powers.

The battle was bloody and none of Mavis’s men had survived the onslaught of Allasandra’s minions. In a moment of rage and anger Mavis swore to the gods of death and necromancy that he would be their servant if they granted him the power to rise his minions and help him unite the country. It is said the dark gods laughed and granted Mavis the knowledge and power to raise his warriors as undead.

Mavis used this power and knowledge to begin studying the power of life and death and stayed locked up in his newly captured stronghold for roughly one hundred years. This knowledge gave Mavis all the insight to begin his rise to ultimate power.

Mavis and his undead Legions marched upon each of the other seven provinces of Helthay and systematically killed all that resisted them. The common people were spared the wraith of the undead but the nobles and mages were killed in record numbers. The rumors of assassins stalking the streets of large cities were becoming common place as powerful Mage Lords were found dead with their throats slit…

Mavis eventually killed off all his rivals and formed a new class of ruling elite called the Grey Wizards. The Grey Wizards would become the national wizards guild for all Helthay. This new institution was well received by the common people for bringing unity among the mages and stopping the constant infighting between the Mage Lords. Mavis upon forming this organization retreated to Doom Hold and has not left his fortress since. He has been given the title of Grand Arch Magius of Helthay and as such is now the titular ruler of Helthay but in truth his realm is one made up of the Eight Fiefdoms: Galador, Ankhittla, Achillia, Doom Hold, Grey Hold, Hoonloor, Melvar, Rashlar. The Dominion was birthed during this age as the Grey Wizards started to police the land with their powers. These grey cloaked mages used their powers to combat the wild sorcerers and vile witches that lived in the outer forests of Helthay. The Grey Wizards also bound the Knight Orders to a great Inquisition to hunt the non sanctioned magic users and bring them to justice by sword or by capture.

The Shadow Blade Assassin’s Guild was also given the job of hunting down enemies of the Grey Wizards and eliminating them in the dark alley ways of the large cities or by hunting accident in the forests. The assassins have become the shadowy enforcement arm of the Dominion killing those that oppose the will of Mavis and his new Mage Lords….

The Legions of Helthay are still active but now instead of fighting each other they march only upon the barbarians bring civilization to the wild lands of Vel Mortha. It truly is a golden age for the people of Helthay long may the Dominion stand and glory to Grand Arch Magius Mavis Delasano!!!

Introduction:

The Helthayvian Government is a hierarchal Feudal Magocracy. The Magocratic Dominion of Helthay as it is called is technically under the control of the Grey Wizards. The Grey Wizards however are still under the command of their superiors the Mage Lords of the Council. The Council is currently made up of eight members for each of the Eight provinces of the Dominion. A Mage Lord is given his title after proving his mastery over the arcane arts and becoming an acknowledged arch mage of considerable power. In Helthay only the strongest and most powerful wizards and mages become rulers and being related to a specific Mage Lord does not grant any considerable privileges of taking over from said relative upon death. This policy has been greatly disputed in the past but Grand Arch Magus Mavis has decreed it so and so his word must be obeyed upon penalty of death....

Introduction:


The Grey Wizards are the agents and some sages and Bards claim the true masters of Helthay. The Grey wizards have only been around for a hundred years but their power and influence in Helthayvian society is far reaching and near omnipresent. This guild was originally founded by Grand Arch Magus Mavis Delasano before his great departure to his citadel in Doom Hold. The Grey Wizards are a highly secretive and ruthless organization often using their power to kill or capture enemies of the Mage Lords or to fight off barbarian sorcerers and witches that sometimes try and raid the country side.

The Grey Wizards are rightly feared by the common people for their great power and lack of morality in dealing with their enemies. It has been said that a Grey Wizard would not hesitate to cast a fireball into the middle of a village just to get rid of one enemy mage in battle or to bind a demon to gain powerful knowledge to be used by the order . These kinds of actions is what brings fear and respect to these mages and if any outside of Helthay knew of their dark reputation. They would know to watch them carefully…





Goals: The Goals of this organization are simple expand their magical knowledge, keep this knowledge from the hands of foreigners and enemies of the Dominion and to police the Dominion for signs of illegal practitioners of the art of magic. The Grey Wizards also seek to conqueror other lands to expand their own power and prestige within the Dominion. This goal has lead to giving Helthay a nasty reputation as ruthless conquerors and manipulators. The Grey Wizards have at times attempted to usurp other lands rulers and place puppet kings or chieftains in their stead. If political usurpation does not work or corrupting with influence then war is the only option and the Grey Wizards have a substantial military force to help in it’s endeavors.

The Guild Leaders: The Council of Mage Lords… 18th level or higher in power
Guild Lords: The Guild Lords serve as second in command for the Mage Lords 15-18th level
Guild Members: The Standard Grey Wizard usually 6th -15th level
Journey Mage: Young Grey Wizards usually low rank just setting out from the academy. 3rd-6th level
Apprentice: The youngest initiates into the great academies of Helthay. It is here their training and testing begin to find how powerful they can become…
