Death of a regime

Deurem News Network Headquarters

The sound of gunfire and artillery shells made it all the more difficult for editor Juan Vasquez to type on the laptop as the war seemed to get closer and closer every second. Access to the internet had been tightly restricted but now no one was left to make sure that ingenious individuals such as Juan could bypass the security systems that were in place. He rapidly typed the story of what was happening and then sent into for the world to read. Just then a loud explosion threw him off his feet. A tank shell had hit the office he was in. His body layed dead next to the destroyed computer.

The nation of Deurem had disappeared from the world stage after a staunch isolationist movement forced the military junta to stop sending aid to other nations and getting invovled in foreign affairs. Tensions began to arise between the rival parties that had power in the military and a month after the invetiable happened.

The ultranationlist party which held many of its major players in the Deurem Intelligence Service (DIS) made a move against their members in the military junta and in the aftermath of a bloody firefight in the Presidential Palace the President was killed. Soon after all hell broke loose as the DIS and the ultranationalist military faction made their move against the remaining military that remained loyal to the former President which soon after disbanded or joined the ultranationalists.

The military junta now dissolved after many of its members died in the shootout in the Presidential Palace led soon after to a full civil war. The police and other government agencies and in particular the Deurem Internal Affairs Bureau (DIAB) who hadn't aligned themselves to the ultranationalists allied themselves with the Imperial rebels (who they were once enemies of but now both fought for survival) and the church of Salf (which had a major influence in the military as many of the officers in the military were part of the religion) to counter the ultranationalists.

The Nationalist Armed Forces (NAF) as the ultranationalist now call themselves have started a brutal campaign against the Democratic Deurem Party (DDP) who in desperation have made one of the last remaining Royal Family members their leader and if they win their King and will reinstate the old Deurem Empire to improve moral.

All hell has broken loose and our once proud nation has fallen into a downward spiral. As a citizen of Deurem I plead for foreign assitance to bring stability before anymore lives are lost.

(A basic civil war RP. There are only two factions those being; the Nationalist Armed Forces and the the Democratic Deurem Party. The NAF are ultra nationalist and unlike the former lienient socialist nation wanted to create a true communist country. Meanwhile the DDP wants to establish a constitutional monarchy.)

Santa Maria city hall

13 year old Marcos Gonzalez was the last biological great nephew of the last Emperor of Deurem. He was in college when the life he knew was shattered. As he looked at the city outline he could see the smoke clouds rising into the air. An AK-74 layed on the table beside him. His importance was a great priority but that didn't meant he wasn't suppose to know how to fire a gun. DDP forces had an advantage in man power but their weapons were not on par to those of the NAF. The mines that surrounded the city of Santa Maria had kepted NAF T-80 tanks at bay for quite sometime but soon or later this fortified city would fall. The occasional air raid was slowly destroying their defenses.

East Deurem

A large column NAF T-80 tanks rolled through the now empty city of East Deurem. They had expected heavy resistance but to their surprise no one could be seen. The streets layed empty and the occasional makeshift barricade or machinegun nest would be passed by. The infantry that walked alongside the tanks let their guard down. The whole city was a ghost town from what they saw.

But it was all wrong as the sound of a RPG-7 hitting the front tank made the NAF infantry men run around looking for cover. DDP men armed with RPG-7's and a few RPG-29's had layed quieted ontop of the many buildings. It was a trap and as the second barage of RPG's blew the first tank's tracks a few men armed with molotov cocktails threw them at the enemy below setting the infantry ablazed. The men on fire were they finished of by homemade pipe bombs.

Mounte Negra
No one was safe from the NAF. Men, women and children were all lined up and then cut down by PKM machine guns. The people of the small town that layed below the mountain had resisted in giving them food. For that they were all killed. Some of the NAR men had stolen camcorders and recorded the event. An hour later the video of the massacare was on the internet.

Two Bums on the street, the City of the Blessed

Bum 2: So I was rummaging through the trash can out behind that fancy restaurant, you know, the one that serves escargot and venison, well anyway I was out behind there and I heard some guys talking about some kind of civil war in somewhere called Deurem.

Bum 1: Deurem, never heard of it.

Bum 2: Yeah, that's exactly what one of the guys I heard talking about it said, then the other guy said, oh it's some backwater place, then he went on to talk about how he heard about it on BNN, and how the quality of the news there has gone down hill lately, with all these stories that no one wants to hear about. See people have noticed.

Bum 1: Well that's what they get for firing me, I was the best news director they had.

Bum 2: Yeah, well if you didn't have such high values, you wouldn't be here right now, you'd be back in your old office doing your old job.

Bum 1: I ain't gona lie for them. I refused to lie to the people, and what do I get for it, blacklisted. See what you do, go and get me all emotional.

Bum 2: Hey at least you don't have to go home to a wife whose always nagging you to go find a refrigerator box because she wants a room to entertain here friends in. I still don't know where I'm gona find a refrigerator box.

Bum 1: Oh, so your wife is able to have friends over, but your not?

East Deurem

The NAF tanks were between a rock and a hardplace as the city become a death trap. T-80 tanks were getting disabled and the infantry were being bombarded with molotov cocktails and pipebombs. But help was coming for the tanks as four Mil Mi-24 helicopters came into view and fired everything that had onto the DDP forces. By the end of the volley of fire all the men ontop of the buildings were dead or had dissapeared. The remaining tanks retreated and left their disabled tanks. Meanwhile the gunships circled around firing at anything that wasn't NAF.

San Marcos

The NAF's headquarters were based in the city of San Marcos. Inside General Alexander Montebello ordered for Internet access to be reinstated. Soon after the General sent a message.

We plead for assistance in crushing the Democratic Deurem Party. They are a danger to our efforts in helping our people.

Undisclosed Location

The NAF had information about a hidden naval base and more importantly the submarine that was docked their. A Typhoon class submarine was their prize goal. They had already a few other submarines but none of them were more worthy or valuable than the Typhoon and its R-39 submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Out of the original 20 that it had only 4 were left. Someone had recently taken the other 16. They didn't know who or cared. Four missiles were more than enough to accomplish their goals.

We are interesting in your proposal but due to the current civil war we do not see anyway of incorporating it into our broken nation.

Deurem News Network

Almost every city had a Deurem News Network station. After Internet access was returned these individuals began to report on events and other important information of the civil war. One such person was a 15 year old boy simply known as Antonio. Antonio had stolen a library computer to continue bringing news to the people. Most of the keys on the keyboard were gone and the mouse was on the fritz but he had to do with what he had.

Current Events
-NAF forces fighting in East Deurem have met heavy resistance from DDP forces. Casualities are high for the NAF as they fight inch for inch for the costal resort city that was thought to have been abandon.

-Towns around Mounte Negra seem to be empty of life. Fires have broken out. Have lost contact from our correspondent located there. Heavy NAF presence.

-Democratic Deurem Party annouce 13 year old Marcos Gonzalez as last known family member of the long ago ousted Imperial family. Call for the construction of a Kingdom of Deurem reminisent to the former Deurem Empire. DDP to crown Mr. Gonzalez this week

West Deurem Coast

An unmarked cargoship made its way towards a DDP controlled port. On its sole helipad a Mi-8 helicopter was being fueled and its passengers made their way out into the deck. Marcos Gonzalez, his two bodyguards and a DIAB agent were heading to the city of Santa Maria. The only thing they had to worry about was being shot down by a fighter aircraft, an attack helicopter, a SAM battery, RPG's, anti aircraft guns and hitting a flock of birds.

"Neo-Ixania is a wonderful place with wonderful people. I wish all of you could come with me there if the assassination attempts increase and I have to leave." Marcos said as he was then interupted when a AKS-74U assault rifle was shoved into his hands.

"Intel reports that the ultra-nationalist's have figured out our flight paths. That means our ride will be more interesting than usual..." said the DIAB agent as he then boarded the helicopter. " Everyone know the plan if we crash? Good becuase that plan might be needed now."

The others soon followed. Armed to as much their body wieghts would allow them to carry they weren't the most optimistic bunch but the most realistic. It was just another day in the office for the DDP memebers as they boarded the Mi-8 which was ready to go. They left the cargoship and flew along to coast far away from any enemy troops on the inland.
