A black SUV pulled up, with GWO plates on it. It was not at all modified, like most government vehicles in the Federation. From the passenger door stepped Heinrich Slaag, dressed in his black dress uniform. Several other men, also in black dress uniforms, stepped from the SUV. They were his top S.T.F. officers, who he had deemed worthy to come with him to the funeral. The SUV pulled away.

The Commissar flew in on a Tupolev Tu-444, and then pulled out a parachute. He put on the parachute pack on, and then he jumped out of the plane after it slowed down. The parachute opened, and he glided slowly and landed on the hard concrete below. He put his parachute away and walked to the funeral building, dressed in a black suit and trench coat with combination cap.

Riding a motorcycle, President Wyatt Thompson arrives at the funeral in a black suit that just barely covers his motorcycle gang tatoos. Walking up to the doorman he introduces himself: "I'm Wyatt Thompson of the Dominion of Multitanna here to attend His Holinesses funeral. I ordered the steak dinner."

Jim Lange was a little flustered after the delegation from The Imperial Republic of Greston rushed pasted him. Then came the Commissar, "Welcome, I don't think we ever met, I am Jim Lange," Jim said. Before the Commissar was able to answer President Wyatt Thompson of the Dominion of Multitanna, "Welcome President Thompson, I am Jim Lange, and yes we received your RSVP card, and your choice of the stake dinner has been noted," Jim said to the latest guest to arrive.

Wyatt Thompson nodded and smiled at Jim Lange. "A pleasure to met you" Thompson said. Then walking into the Monastery, the President admired the beautiful architecture. "Hmmm" Thompson said to himself, "the Dominion could use some nice buildings, maybe I could model the presidential mansion on this. I'll need to get the architectual plans before I leave."

The Commissar, with a grim expression on his face, merely nodded. He solemnly walked to the monastery and entered, sword in hilt gleaming. In one hand he held a box, and on his back was the parachute pack. He took off the pack and tossed it in a corner, and he continued walking with the box in his hand.

A black Lincoln Limousine and its escort of the Presidential Guard pulled into the monastery. inside the limo were President Boncayao, Executive Chairman Poca and Interior Chair Sitoy, known in Visayan politics as the Triumvirate. The presence of all three esteemed statesmen was a sign of how important this occasion was to the Federation. it was this formidable trio that effectively ran the entire government by sheer force of prestige and will. A little known fact was that these three were also old friends since college.

The limo stopped at the foot of the steps of the monastery and the Triumvirate stepped out attended by aides and bodyguards. The first to get off was Sitoy, the mustachioed veteran politician. He climbed his way to the top from town mayor thanks to his fatherly image and paternalistic policies. ExChair POca stepped out next. A stout jovial man, he carried an air of authority that served him well during heated Executive Committee debates. And last was President Boncayao who walked up the stairs at the head of the delegation. His academic look betrayed his past as a college professor.

they greeted the Acting Leader one by one shaking his hand and gently murmuring their condolences.

John Batther saw the representitive from Stokmlovi and walked up to him and greeted. He then pulled two chairs jestured the man to sit down and then asked him, "You have men currently fighting in Cripistan correct? If so, what is you position on the CRU?"

The Commissar stopped and looked at the man. He merely nodded and sat down. He put the box on the ground, and spoke in a frustrated tone.

"Yes, my men are fighting in Cripistan. I have taken no notice of this "CRU", and I only know that these godforsaken rebels ought to be exterminated for all that they have done."

He looked at the box.

Edwardo's body lay in a casket at the front of the main room of the monastery, on top of a raised platform. A projector was showing a black and white home movie of Edwardo in a cave, in full military uniform, talking with his top commanders, the video had been shot during his time as leader of the rebels. The screen for the projector was huge, nearly 40 feet high. As Alexei walked up, the Edwardo on the screen had looked at the camera, and was smiling.

Alexei, upon seeing the image, nearly broke down. Such a great leader, who treated his people so excellently, was gone in mere seconds. He trudged over to the casket and peered inside. Ed was lying peacefully. He pulled out the box, and opened it. Inside, upon velvet lining, was the M14 which Ed had given him many months ago. He left the other gifts back in the Vladistov Kremlin, for the box was only large enough to fit one item. He pulled out the M14 and laid it on the floor, and in a very quiet voice stated a eulogy.

Walking up to the building where the funeral was to be held, Marshals Regulus, Von Dredicburg, Field Marshal Varus and Admiral Von Grissem looked at the building where the funeral was being held. They were all, quite rightly, impressed.
"Nice architecture," stated Wilhelm Von Dredicburg.
"Wonder how it looks when it's been leveled about an artillery shell?" asked Marcus Theodosius Regulus.
"Can you just not think about warfare for one night?" asked Hubert Von Grissem.
"You know, seeing as we actually managed to convince the Savonicans to agree to a ceasefire for a week," added Emperor Heinrich II, standing behind the rest of the Achae-Ottonian High Command.
They walked up to the Acting Head of State, and each shook his hand, introducing themselves and uttering their sincerest condolences, and then headed inside.

The Visayan delegation payed its respect to the deceased Leader after Alexei sat down. Their nervous body guards had let out a sigh of relief when the Commissar revealed that the contents of the box he was carrying wasn't a miniature nuke capable of wiping out everyone in the room. They solemnly gazed into the coffin for a few seconds, genuinely feeling a sense of loss especially after seeing the home movie. Here was a man who had gone through a lot for his country and now lay peacefully at rest. One of them said a silent prayer for his soul and they all sat down and began chatting with the other guests.

John watched as the crowd grew bigger of people and delegates here to embrace their dead friend or ally or whatever their relations together was. John watched the home movie that was playing upon the screen above Edwardo's casket and was amazed at what this man did in his lifetime. There was so much on the video yet the man wasn't older the Micahel Check when place into a mental pacility. John walked up to the casket kneeled infront of it with his elbows on the side of the casket and said a few prairs. As he finished he made the sign of the cross and stood up. He took of the gold laced necklace off of his neck and raised it in front of his face. Hanging from the necklace hung a small golden cross. "For a great man." and he place the necklace upon the dead man. John then walked back over and sat down to listen to the eulogies.

[QUOTE] It is with the deepest regret that I cannot come to personally pay my respects to the deceased, as our own head of state has just died, and I must stay here to ensure a smooth transition of power, to whoever happens to be next for the position. I am sorry. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased, friends, acquaintances, and the nation of the Beatus. Again, I am very sorry I cannot attend.

Jim pulled the speech that his new political spin-doctors had made for him. He looked at it for a second before ripping it in half, and tossing it into a nearby garbage can. This isn't about politics, he though, this is about a friend. Then he decided he would just make it up as he went, go where his heart took him. He started to speak,

"Edwardo Listless, was a great man, and a great friend. I don't know what it is that make a good leader, but Ed had it. Everyone liked him, I can't think of anyone that didn't, except for those he fought against, but even them, I think, had a sort of respect for him. As for those that knew him well, that spent a lot of time with him, it was more of a sort of devotion. I don't know what it was, but we all trusted him. It wasn't just that he was our leader, no, it started long before he became commander of the rebellion, as long as I knew him, he had been this way. People would gladly follow him of a cliff if he asked them to. Why do you think they made him dictator for life, when we had just finished fighting for our freedom from an insane King? Because he had that special... I don't know how to describe it, but it was something special. He wasn't greedy either, even after we made him dictator for life, he stilled cared about the common man, he instituted many programs that improved this nation, turned it from a bunch of peasant farmers, into the industrial powerhouse it is today. He wasn't like other dictators, who only cared about themselves. He even put his life on the line, more than once, by joining our troops on the front lines, fighting along side the common soldier. He didn't make himself a general or anything either, he was only a captain. He was more than a great leader though, he was a friend too. He was... my friend. (tears began to well up in Jim's eyes) I remember one time, when we were fighting against the king, I had been shot, right here in the leg, (Jim points to his right thigh) and I was bleeding all over. Well Ed was ahead of me, and when I fell, what did he do? He reloaded his gun, turned around, and ran toward me, blindly firing at the enemy, till he reached me, then he pulled me behind a rock, and cleaned, and bandaged my wound. He didn't just leave me there. He stayed with me all night till back up came. It's a good thing Ed's such a good shot, cause so many enemy were dropping, they though we had a whole platoon there, and decided to hold off an attack till morning. He probably saved my life that night, and when I thanked him, he told me, 'awe, that was nothing, you don't need to thank me, anyone would have done the same thing,' but thats not true, most others would have left me there in a heartbeat, but not him, not Ed (Jim broke down in tears)."

He stumbled of the stage, where he was met by two guards who helped him to his seat. Next a man came up and announce the next person who would be speaking,

"Next we will hear from Alexei Aleksandrovich Stuyonovich, of The Communist Dominion of Stoklomolvi."

Alexei stood up and walked up to the podium. He pulled out the M14.

"This, my friends, was a gift from this great man. He used this gun during the Revolution, and he gave this gun to me. It meant quite a lot, and after The Beatus, Zoingo, and Stoklomolvi signed that alliance pact, we were to stay with each other until we died. I saw the satellite photographs of Ed charging through heathen jungle to valiantly attack the Royal Code, and I saw Ed to be a very kind and honest person. To this day, I remember him for his honour and majesty. Even though one more honest person has been wiped off the face of the earth, his contributions to this world will be remembered for the history of the world."

Alexei raised the M14 into the air.

"Let us remember Edwardo Listless, a truly magnificent man!"

He walked off the podium and sat back down. He rubbed his eyes.

Tears started to rise from Johns eyes as the Stoklomolvian finished his euolgy. He didn't know the man at all but the eulogies, the home movies, the stories just the conversations about him showed how great a man he was. He felt sad for all of Ed's friends who had a piece of their hearts ripped out from Death himslef as he took Edwardo away. The story of how Ed was a simple man, how even through being a dictator he still fought upon the battle field with his men. Of course John was a brigader, a fighter, but he hadn't fought with his brigade in almost a year, which is the entire time he has served as president and three monthes added. This man, Edwardo Listless was a true man, John thought. If only he could have met him.

The eulogies were now done and people were back to the beginning. He went up to Jim who seemed to be the new leader and said to him, "I will be leaving right after the dinner for I am hosting a ball in my home nation. You may come if you like.
