A Call for Help (Open)

0700 hours, February 29th, 2554 (Military Calendar)\
Sol System, Planet Earth\ United Nations Building, Geneva Switzerland.

After the single cruiser had been sent off to go fight the Chaos threat that had recently revealed itself, Mary and the rest of the United Nations had worked quickly to rebuild the UNSC and enact programs to prevent the UNSC from falling apart. However, they were hampered at every step by the United Rebel Front, rebels whom had fought against them even during the war, causing thousands of lives to be lost when humanity needed to be united. They sabotaged many of their efforts, wasting valuable resources and money all to further their cause for "freedom". That was something they could not allow. However, they had been reluctant to use force, as the populace was weary of war. But the popular opinion was rapidly turning against the rebels, and they saw that now they could enact force if they could win quickly.

They could not abandon the rebuilding efforts and they could not fund both. So, a week ago, the Security Council had met and unanimously agreed on a measure to call for help with both the rebels and in rebuilding.......

Mary Scheller stepped up to the podium that was used for those speaking to the United Nations Security Council about what they were discussing or to send a message if there is a crisis that requires it. She was here to avert a crisis. She gazed around the Council, all whom nodded at her, supporting her action. She had not told Hood or Harper, but she had been the one who decided to call for aid and persuaded the Council. The UNSC needed allies and if it needed to drag nations into its hell to get them, then it would do so.

Straightening herself, she turned and faced the screen which would record and then broadcast her message throughout the galaxy, for good or ill. Taking a deep, long breath, she began to speak.

Greetings, I am Councilor Mary Scheller of the United Nations Space Command. We have just come out of a terrible war with an alien race whom invaded us, intent on destroying us utterly. After nearly a decade of war, we have managed to win but at a terrible cost. Trillions lie dead and we know ask the galaxy for help in rebuilding our nation. We have tried to do it ourselves, but it has proved impossible. Between the rebels, who actively tried to upset us even as we fought to protect them from the Covenant, to the immense damage we have suffered from the war, we just cannot muster the resources needed to rebuild our nation.

As such, with the full backing of my government, I am asking, no, PLEADING for help in rebuilding our nation and giving us a chance at a normal life again. I humbly wait for your replies on this matter and beg that you hurry. Every day, more people starve, fall sick, or are denied the life they should have had if not for a cruel trick of fate.

She closed her eyes and the screen cut out, ending the transmission. Turning to the Council, she sighed. “All we can do is hope now...”

Across the UNSC, the United Rebel Front, or URF, with its incredible intelligence services soon heard of the broadcast and its contents. Especially the reference to them and they quickly began setting about building their defenses and securing their assets. The UNSC, as it appeared, was more determined to root out their cause than they had imagined and were now even recruiting nations to come in and help them with the problem.

A nation weary of killing and battles....would find itself soon consumed by the fires of war once more.

We have herd you call for help, and we will soon be there, we carry a diversement of people, and equipment. Even thogh we have not meet, I do think that we would be of help to each other.

As The Message sent, the many ships excorting the Terra moved into the massive ships hanger. The fleets captians still could not beleave the size of there own ship, as the newer ships slid into the salvaged Terra's hold.

/// Receiving incoming transmission /// Code Level: Gamma /// Decoding software enacted /// Firewall protection and virus protection software activated.

......

/// No viruses detected. /// No hostile software detected. /// Decoding complete. Translating........Message translated. Opening file....

Mary Scheller wondered at how fast their computers these days and how complex their defensive walls were. If it weren't for that advantage, the Covenant would have been able to get many vital secrets and could have possibly won the war...Shaking her head, she looked at the message they had received.

We have heard you call for help, and we will soon be there, we carry a diversement of people, and equipment. Even though we have not met, I do think that we would be of help to each other.

She let out a sigh of relief. It was only one reply, but it was still a reply. Her hands immediately set to work and she began writing out a reply.....

To Admiral Jason,

It is good to hear a voice responding to our desperate call. Enclosed in this message are coordinates for a station that is organizing the effort to rebuild the colonies through foreign aid. Arrive there and they will help you unload and bring those supplies to where they are needed.

-Councilor Mary Scheller

With the message sent, help was to begin flowing into the UNSC, if only a trickle. She could only hope it became a flood. Especially with the actions they were being forced to take against the rebels, they would need all the help they could get....

Dr. Natalie L'eon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yexbwEunU5I)

Help would come, from an outside source, but seemingly from an inside source. No new ships entered orbit, no new aliens would appear asking to give aid out of the kindness of their hearts, instead, a lone woman, with long blond hair, and a sleek red dress walked down the corridors of the UN building. She walked very seductively, her body very fit, her smile like that of an angel, as she turned to a room.

As she approached the room, two guards stopped in front of her. Their arms holding the newest rifles in the UNSC, their shining armor glistened against the fluorescent white lights above in the ceiling.

The woman looked to the two masked guards, their faces hidden within their armor and smiled, as she slowly reached her hand up to the top of her dress. She wrapped her fingers around a small piece of metal, as she un clipped her identification badge. She looked to the men, and smiled, exposing her white teeth.

The solders expressionless under their masks, reached for it, as her hand slowly met the persons. The solder pulled up her identification badge to the light to see it better. Dr. Natalie L’eon, Region, Canada. UN specialist in Artificial Intelligence, and Bio-Engineering.

The guard, moved to a panel on the wall and scanned the bar code. “Access granted.” The two guards turned to Dr. L’eon, and stood at attention. The woman reached back and grabbed her identification card.

As she walked in, she met a room full of older men, and a few stuck up women, from different regions around the globe. Dr. L’eon, held her briefcase a little tighter, as she walked up to the podium.

“Thank you all for coming.” Dr. L’eon replied, as she opened her briefcase, and pulled out some papers.

“Today, I would like to announce a great breakthrough to the UN. Oversight commettie on Artificial Intelligence. My lab, working in conjecture with other labs from various other regions, within the last forty eight hours has come across an amazing breakthrough on Artificial Intelligence. Up until now, Artificial intelligence has been largely defined as a computer with a voice interaction somewhat of a personality, and can come up with solutions based on experience. However that experience, and it’s ability to learn has always been hampered by one aspect, the programming available by the programmers, and the soft ware available. Today, that is no longer an issue.

Dr. Natalie L’eon, turned to the wall and clicked a button. The wall picture displayed a chart of computer output, and system speed. One of the line, representing the current models, showed the learning curve of the AI, as a chart, but over time, the line slowly became a flat line. Above it in red, was the new Centurious project. The line held a much higher slope of learning and adaptation, about three times greater than the current model.

Dr. Natalie L’eon turned to the audience, who should be in disbelief. “This is accomplished by two new methods. My laboratory has found a way to link the current individual Artificial Intelligence, in a system of fire walls and encryptions that even our own AI’s can not figure out how to handle, not only allowing faster response time, but also allowing the AI’s to learn from each other. Not only would this allow the most secure method of learning, in the shortest amount of time, but as one of Computers learns something, it is immediately given to all of the AI’s along the network.

The second component to this, one that we were able to discover at my laboratory at Ontario, was with a highly sophisticated bio-engineering, truly, we have invented the first evolving computer. It’s CPU, made largely of stem cells created a near replica to a human brain, while allowing all the speed and precision of the standard AI. In short, we have the first truly living computer. When conjoined with the AI’s on our test network, the data we collected far exceeded any of our expectations. Ladies and Gentlemen, I purpose that with this new ability that we have, and with some additional funding from the UN, that we can expedite our planet’s repairs from the rebel forces. Computers and robotics, attached to this nearly unhackable interface can begin working around the clock to rebuild and repair. Based on the calculations and projections, we can in fact increase rebuilding time by 45%, with your approval.

Dr. Natalie L’eon, picked up a glass of water, and awaited the assault of questions that was sure to follow.

The Crew was about to close when Jason stoped them. "Remember when we found the Terra as we were shocked by it's size? well, they would be too. We will keep the Terra Back and launch the escort ships. I will be on the Seraphrim and we will also pring several other ships.

The group of older men and "stuck-up women" was the best and the brightest the UNSC had. A quarter of them were military; the rest were civilian. Normally, the numbers were reversed, but, after the war it was obvious whom they had more of.

They were there, at Mary Scheller's approval, to discuss their programs and submit ones that had the best chance of being useful to the rebuilding of the UNSC. They had come up with a couple, but they were just too costly for the moment. Their resources were stretched thin, so they had to make the best of what they had. When this one Natalie L'eon came in, the men gave her very appreciative looks, which the women coughed loudly at, glaring at her a bit.

She always flaunted herself, messing with the mens minds and making her case all that much more likely to succeed. However, the military guys were not amused and the women, together with them, were able to put down many of her policies, for good reason. A lot cost too much and many were bordering on breaking many morals and rules.

One of the military types, a Lieutenant Sarah Granger, leaned forward, eyes narrowed. "Tell me, Ms. L'eon, how should we be able to shut down these A.I.'s if they should go crazy or turn on us. With these unbreakable firewalls and encryptions, we can't do so. Also making a living computer comes too close to playing God, and breaking many of the rules in using stem cells and such things. This is close to breaking the laws we have laid down, as you have done so many times. I cannot see how we can use this in good mind and spirit, as well as being sure it won't turn on us and with us being unable to stop it. The A.I'.s do turn rampant, sometimes by age, virus or faulty programming. If they do, with this program, we will be screwed upriver without a paddle. So tell me, Doctor, what assurances do you have for us?"

Bug Forces - Home Hive Three

After countless years hiding from the dreaded Enemies, the Intelligence that drove their cause had found it - a new, weaker enemy that may help and supply the Fleet for many years to come. The prospect of fresh feeding added to the Fleets hopefullness, and the Fleet pulled away to the noise of the newly found Enemies.

Theoroshian Space Forces - TSF Chaos

"Comrade, the Bugs are moving."

The Vice Admiral nodded. The Theoroshians had encountered the Bugs ten years ago, and when they found out what these enemies did, the Theoroshians were appalled. The Bugs considered all life as a food source, for Theo's sake!

The Vice Admiral shook his head to clear the horrors from his mind. They had managed to defeat them (barely), and the Supreme Alliance was hunting down what was left of them to...exterminate...them.

"Where are they going, comrade Ensign?"

The ensign looked up as his admiral. "Comrade, they appear to be responding to some sort of...signal, I suppose."

The Vice Admiral immediately went into alert mode. If this communications was from more Bugs, than his task force was no match for them - seven monitors, ten superdreadnoughts, eighteen battlecruisers, nine battleships, twenty one light cruisers, and five fleet carriers.

"Hijack that signal, Ensign. Reroute it to the speakers."

With clarity only a computer could voice, the message started:

"Greetings, I am Councilor Mary Scheller of the United Nations Space Command. We have just come out of a terrible war with an alien race whom invaded us, intent on destroying us utterly. After nearly a decade of war, we have managed to win but at a terrible cost. Trillions lie dead and we know ask the galaxy for help in rebuilding our nation. The Vice Admiral nodded self consciously. He knew what it was like, teetering on the edge of the abyss and barely pushing the enemy back. Oh, he knew all to well what it feels like.

"Prepare a scouting party to see if this is real. Also, send a message to Fleet Command. Tell them that we plan on establishing contact with these newfound peoples and that we plan on defending these peoples from the Bugs. Godspeed, Fleet Command. End message. You got that? Good."

He turned to his XO. "Get this message ready for these newfounders. Tell them that we are sending aid, and that possible hostiles - bearing on-" he checked his data plot"-12, 26, 19. Tell them that we will spot our IFFs with blue, repeat, blue. Also, send them the files on our war with the Bugs. If they really are trying to rebuild, then the last thing these guys need are Bugs down their throats."

OOC: The first guys I RP'ed are bad, sentient eating creatures. They're bad, and the Theoroshians (second guys) are trying to stop them.

UNSC Top Secret meeting

Scrutiny, mistrust, revulsion to the new, these were all classic human qualities, a reason in itself the cylon was far superior to their parents. The cylon acted, not out of mistrust, but only out of devotion to God, and out of necessity for the survival of the cylon. So it was not any surprise to Dr. L’eon, when the panel began to question her project, her ethics, and her obligations to the law.

Natalie, picked up a glass of now room temperature water, and smiled as she took a small drink. Her software was ideal, to mimic human behavior, even behaviors of nervousness. She looked to the woman in front of her, the military adviser that scrutinized her so, just a few moments ago.

“Lieutenant, thank you for addressing these questions. I am quite certain the same questions are running through everyone’s mind at this moment.” Dr. Natalie L’eon replied, as she smiled to Sarah.

“First of all Stem Cells, have since the late 2000's have been found to be able to be created from any cell, and reprogrammed back to the base cellular structure which is fetal tissue. This form of Creation, even when it was first discovered in the year 2007, was a turning point in medical engineering. After years of study, and testing, that very method was universally accepted as completely ethical. The Centurious prototype, in my laboratory in Ontario, was created, using my very skin cells from my hand, and with over five hundred years of medical advancements, and a bit of genetic and biological engineering, has become the most advanced computer in our nation. The method of collecting the material, was from a volunteer, myself, and as such is not only lawful but completely ethical.

Natalie looks around the table, and watches the panels reaction, to a basic medical history lesson, that she is giving the panel. She then looked down to her notes for a second and reshuffled some of her papers.

Natalie paused for a moment, to let her words sink in, especially with the military personal. She then continued, As for assurances, I have quite a few. First of all, Artificial Intellegence is not a new technology on Earth. It is quite modern, even routine for modern life. Home laptops, PC’s, even ATM’s are now controlled by artificial intellegence. In the early stages of devolpment, yes a few of them went rogue, and caused signifigant damage, either with human lives, economic or political prosperity, but now, in this wonderful modern age that we live in, we have procured many methods of deturing and preventing such an uprising against humanity.”

She looked around the panel for a moment, and then continued, “If I believed for one moment, that the Centurious project would endanger anyone, let alone harm one person, I would pull the plug on the project myself. Centurious, is however programmed with many fail safe systems that would prevent her from rising up against our kind. First of all, there is coding in the molecular structure of her CPU, that upon the event of system damage, or any event that would cause her to go as the lieutenant politely put it rogue, this program, would deactivate her immediately. This program is embedded in such a way, that it would be impossible for Centurious to change it without activating it. TO put it in laymen terms, it would be like wishing one of your genetic traits away with nothing more than your mind. It is impossible.”

“Centurious is in accordance to the 2412 Artificial Intellegence act written with the three laws of Artificial Intellegence,

Centurious may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

Centurious must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Centurious must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I have even added a fourth law to her, one that is not required by law, to insure that Centurious will never violate such a notion.

Centurious may not attempt to change or alter the previous three laws.

This will in her “DNA” prevent her from ever rising up. If this line of code ever becomes broken, or damaged, Centurious will deactivate herself. Think of it as a genetic predisposition, to having a fatal allergy.”

“And as for your notion of playing God, we as a race have always attempted to play God. In some of our earliest literature, it is stated that Man is created in the image of God. Since then, we have taken dominion over the planet, judged who lives and who dies. From the earliest of our sciences, we have tried to change the nature of substances from Alchemy to chemistry. We have tried to violate the laws of physics, from the earliest methods of flight, to having Faster than light travel. We swim in the bottom of oceans, not cause we have gills, but because we have the technology, and the desire to do so.”

“Even our earliest genetic experiments were designed to play God. In 1998, we clones dolly, creating out of two cells, a sheep identical to the first. In 2003, Great Britain created a plant that was also a mammal. In 2007, scientist created a cat that glowed in the dark, not for any true scientific purpose, but because we could. We have created Viruses, and retro-viruses. We have even gone to the stars, and taken barren rocks and turned them into new earths. Ladies and Gentlemen, the human race always has, and will continue to play God. “

Natalie paused for a moment. “And the cost is not as high as you would think. We have the networks that exist already, and that is the key component. Centurious, due to the funding of this council, exists, and is fully functional. The software exists right this moment, to link the computer systems right now. All it will take is two hundred million dollars, to begin the upgrades to military and civilian networks, as well as create the prototypes to begin construction. What is two hundred million dollars, in comparison to a forty percent increase in reconstruction, in aiding to help the sick and the homeless after our devastating war. Children today are dying on the streets because there are not enough doctors to treat them. My purposal will allow those children to live. It will also allow for our nation to become strong again, with our industrial might, we can produce solders of war, who will have equal skill to a human, will have no fear of death, and will follow the orders of their superior, human officers without question. Ladies and gentleman, if you accept this purposal, without any aid from other alien nations, running rampant on Earth, we can have the devastations completely repaired in twelve years, instead of the estimated twenty, and for a small sum of two hundred million, you will save billions in repair costs.

Dr. L’eon looked into the crowd, especially Sarah Granger. “Are there any more questions?”

The Serafrim was the old holder of there largest ship recors, and still the largest thing made by there hands, untill they found the Terra, so it if fitting that she was named flagship for this outing. The 500m Long Fleet Carrier made the surounding ships look small, and rightfully so. As they aproched the blue planet, they expected to be pinged by radar along the way, yet barly a drop of defence left. "They really need our help...We will not let them down." Sensor Station Roma

"Sir, I'm detecting a signal in sector alpha-zulu three dash four." The commander walked over and put his hand on the officer's chair as he gazed at the signal. It was faint but it was coming in, and getting stronger.

"Send Probe-002 to intercept that signal and relay it back. And ready a message to FLEETCOM; if its an invasion or something hostile, I want to get a response ASAP."

"Yes sir!"

The probe, investigating the gas cloud on the edge of the system, turned about and shot towards the spot where the message would soon arrive. Due to the immense amount of static caused by the floating wreckage in the system and the gas cloud, the message was slowed enough for the drone to receive it. It stored it in its memory banks, saved it, copied it, and forwarded it to Roma.

"Sir, file retrieved."

"Send it over to my datapad." The officer tapped the keys and the message was sent over to his station. Opening the file, he gazed at it, and only years of control kept him from making any outward indication of the anger and despair at what he was reading.

"We Theoroshians have heard your call and will be sending aid to help you rebuild. However, we also come with a warning. A possibly hostile force is bearing on you, coordinates twelve-twenty-six-nineteen. We ask you set your IFF for us to blue, so you can recognize us. We have fought this hostile before and we are sending information on it. We wish you the best of luck."

The commander tapped the key to open the file and his eyes widened slightly. The crew instantly tensed; something was up. His hands clenched his seat's handles even tighter. These creatures fed on living beings; it was like the Flood all over again; except they weren't as infectious. If they were, seeing as they had ships, the galaxy would have fallen by now. His head turned to his communications officer.

"Send that message to FLEETCOM, but make it Priority-Alpha, and tell them we are being invaded. Send a copy of the ENTIRE message, attachments and all, to ONI and HIGHCOM as well. It looks like we have another war on our hands."

*************************

The Lieutenant's eyes narrowed. "We have played God in the past, Doctor, this is true. However, if you had bothered to remember, the UNSC passed a law, in 2551. The Restriction of Sciences act forbids us from going into those realms anymore. We have flash cloning, but that has been restricted to organs and other essential medical needs. If you are as much of a Doctor as you claim, you surely have read the papers on the Flood, and their Super Cells. If we are to play God, then that is the only result of such an avenue. And, personally, after seeing one of my OWN squads consumed by that disgusting infection and turned against me, I join my voice alongside many others in condemning ANY research that could lead us down that path. Which, in my mind, constitutes this new program you suggest."

She took a deep breath, and exhaled. She seemed rattled for a moment, but returned to her calm facade. "Now, also, cloning has been restricted severely in wake of the Restriction of Sciences Act and of the need to keep flash cloning for organs only. However, this may be an A.I. but you are creating a living being, "playing God" as you so scornfully chose to remind us. This would be in violation of the Act but it was done before, AND it may be allowed. However, that remains to be seen.

Finally, I can't say I can trust the safety of the weakened military and what remains of humanity in the hands of one person. If you should die, be controlled in a similar manner as the Flood, or someone gets your codes, they can overwrite the A.I. and we have lost. And, although you have inputed these laws, which I commend you on, people can write code INTO things, even at creation. Rebellions are popping up everywhere, and for all we know, someone has already coded a backdoor into this Centurious and will use it when we are most weak to secure a Rebel victory. If we link all our systems together, Doctor, it will increase everything. But, if it fails, is hacked into, any number of things...we have nothing to fall on to protect ourselves, nothing to save us....and then humanity will truly fall."

******************

The Seraphim would find itself in the Sol System, a site of two major battles between the Covenant and the UNSC. Wreckage floated everywhere; the bodies had been collected long before, but the plasma-scarred hulks UNSC ships, and the shredded Covenant ships drifted throughout the system. A fierce battle had been fought here, something one couldn't deny as the twisted wreckage of a UNSC carrier drifted by, their lights flashing over the carbon-scored UNSC symbol before it continued its path through space. Only a few ships remained and some of the Super MAC station defense network. The planet that the station was orbiting wasn't doing much better; the population had been dropped down to 200 million people, from the 7 billion who had once lived there. Half of Africa was glassed and their cities were in ruins.

They were pinged by the radar, although weak, as the station focused on coordinating the repair efforts of the UNSC came into sight. This was the UNSC Hopeful. It had been built using two scrapped repair stations, and fusing them together, making it into a state-of-the-art hospital and research station, something it was still being used for. However, it had been tasked for leading the rebuilding efforts under the capable management of Vice Admiral Ysionris Jeromi, the commander of the Hopeful, whom was a war hero and had saved thousands of lives.

A channel was opened to the Seraphim.

"Seraphim, this is Hopeful. Move to coordinates zero-five delta and enact orbiting jets to attain planetary orbit. Then please send a shuttle with your representatives for a meeting about the station. We'll be waiting. Hopeful out

Dr. L’eon lowered her head for a moment, as she looked at the podium below, as if she were reading something from her papers. She raised her head and smiled.

“First of all, I would like to thank you for those questions Lt. Granger. I would also like to personally thank you, for all the sacrifices that you gave us during that great and terrible war with the flood. Because of you, your squad, and people like you, humanity has survived. At a terrible cost and sacrifice, we have endured thanks to you, and if it were not for you and people like you, none of us would be alive today to hear this purposal, and to debate on what should be done next.” she said to the military crowd.

“I know that Lt. Granger, like many others here, are concerned about two things, one the cost of the program, which as we now know is quite low compared to the long term cost of canceling the project, and also the safety and security of not only the men and women of the armed forces, but the civilians abroad, and the continuing survival of our species. Ladies and Gentleman, although I did not fight for the nation on the front lines, I still am trying to protect this very nation. Lt. Granger’s concerns are valid, but I must say they are taken care of.”

“The Network that I described earlier, based on our most advanced Artificial Intelligence, including that of Centurious herself, has yet to be able to hack this firewall, and safety protocols instilled within Centurious.”

“I have already stated, the genetic disposition of Centurious, would provide for an immediate shut down, if any tampering with the base coding systems occurs, thus giving full control back to the individual unit AI’s that we have today. If such a horrible and unlikely event occurred, our nation would have the current level of technological computing that it has today. Basically any attempt to hack Centurious would bring us back to today.”

“The Network that I described earlier, based on our most advanced Artificial Intelligence, including that of Centurious herself, has yet to be able to hack this firewall, and safety protocols instilled within Centurious.

“Ladies and Gentleman, this is truly a win-win situation. If Centurious was hacked, as unlikely as that is, then we have lost nothing, and we are where we are today. If my claims are proven, we will gain a huge step in computer and biological engineering.”

To help you better understand how Centurious works, Natalie says as she clicks on another slide, of a human double helix, Centurious’ programing occurs not within electrical circuits, or bio gel packs, but within the very genes of a double helix. The double helix, which represents DNA, is infact the central CPU of Centurious. As of now, there is no hacker in this world that would have the ability to wirelessly change genetic sequencing. The only way that could be accomplished, is direct bio engineering at the sight.

Natalie then clicks on another picture of Centurious. This is Centurious (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Image:Hybrid.jpg), ladies and gentlemen, not your average computer. The upper portion of her Torso, is infact human, with silicate molecules running on the cellular level, attached to organic tubes, that not only feed Centurous, but allow her to send signals back and forth through the network.

Natalie paused for a moment, to let the panel see the full revolution of computer technology. The liquid Imperius is in, is a silicate liquid mixture, that actually acts as a conduit for her to interact with computers on a nearly unlimited basis. In order to reprogram Centurious, you would have to remove her from this liquid, which would take her off the network, and get her to a bio engineering lab.

The closest lab is five stories up, at the facility in Ontario, past many military guards, computer terminals and security access points. However if the person managed to get Centurious up to these points, she would die within one hour. SO that would mean that the person would have to take her, move her past security, up five stories, and do a complete biological reprogramming of her DNA, every strand and place her back within the liquid, and re hook her up within one hour. Ladies and Gentleman, that is stastically impossible.”

She then looks around the room, “Is there another question?”

What a delicious discovery.

Overall, the Fleet was supplied at the vastness of the battle. It was also suprised to learn that not one but two species had been fighting, and so that must mean there was more food somewhere.

The Fleet moved on, looking for it's new prey.

Intervening Transit, aboard TFS Leviathan

"Sir, there has been no response to our message. Request permission to go LOUD."

The Vice Admiral looked at his sub ordinate. "Permission granted."

LOUD was the name given to the all transmission beam used by Theoroshian Naval forces. It transmitted messages everywhere, in every direction. In this case, the message was:

"To any forces available;

Incoming Theoroshian forces. Please respond, Bug forces are incoming. Request that your forces go on full alert, over."

The fleet continued it's transit.

The message was quickly replied to.

"Theoroshian Fleet, this is Fleet Admiral Hood. We have received your transmission and have gathered what assets we could to defend ourselves, but we are still greatly weakened. I'm afraid that if you don't come quickly enough, there won't be anything of us left. I advise speed."

He was right; out of all remaining nearby ships, those that could come on short notice were two frigates, the UNSC Nightfall, and Dagorlad, along with the destroyer Simpson, and a carrier Lincoln. The battle to come would be fierce, as the UNSC would have to fight with its flagging, weakened strength....

**********************

Granger was quiet, her head bowed enough so her eyes were hidden; her thoughts, a mystery. Finally, she took off her hat, and ran a hand over her tired brow. She was tired of fighting; tired of having to always look out for the cause of humanity. Looking around the room, she could tell she had won from the moment she thanked the military. The military, whom had been beaten on badly before the war, was at a god-like status with the civilians. Although many had died, they couldn't blame the UNSC. After all, its Marines had fallen like sown wheat and the Navy was virtually non-existent now. The military, although they tried hard not to show it or let it affect them, felt happy when they were congratulated, and she could see now the military people, swayed by her arguments, her gratitude, and the technology she was bringing in, would not support her. And the civilian scientists, whom obviously felt as she did, couldn't say anything as it would be seen as disrespectful of the military in a situation that was good for the UNSC.

Sighing, she looked at L'eon as she presented the A.I. and what it looked like. She remained quiet throughout the entire presentation, and when it ended, she spoke. The looks she got were a mix of annoyance and curiosity. What could she possible have to bitch about now? "Very well; I'll concede that the system works and is well-protected. However, the only problem I can foresee is that this kind of....organic computer is...well to put it bluntly, disturbing. It's as if we chose to play God, and make beings just to serve as our computer systems. Virtual slaves, and with no way to survive on their own. The A.I'.s we have now, if need be, can move across networks; Centurious can only survive an hour when unplugged and cannot do anything. That restricts mobile movement of A.I's, such as Cortana, which had worked immensely and kept us alive in many cases. What do you have to so on this?" The military scientists could be seen nodding; they remembered how Cortana moved from network to network, hacking, listening, giving out vital info. If not for her, many of them would be dead right now.

So they gazed at the Doctor, waiting to see what she had to say.

The Commodore paled at the message. These newfound allies may be more of a burden than a help. No matter, he thought. They were beings, and they deserved the right to live.

"What's their numbers like, XO?"

The executive officer turned towards his superiors. "Comrade Commodore, they have two heavy frigates, as well as a medium carrier according to our specifications."

The Commodore paled even more. That battle line would not hold. The Bugs had, at last count, sent fifteen plus ships to attack these people. The Commodore only had two frigates, three battlecruisers, one superdreadnought, and two carriers. He was flying his lights in TFS Leviathan, the strongest superdreadnought in the Fleet.

"Roger that, XO. Prepare for battle quarters. Also, prepare a message for these people. Code Alpha Beta Niner."

Just as the message was sent, a flicker of pseudo-motion signaled the opening of a Slipspace arrival, which came a second later in a large blue portal. It was the cruiser Leviathan, once commanded by Admiral Stanforth, but now in control of Fleet Admiral Hood. There was also another arrival of the cruiser Harbringer, which was Fleet Admiral Harper's cruiser. They both had been in system, and had to take more time jumping than the others. Lord Hood quickly organized his forces, well what he had, and moved them into the best covering formation he could find. The network of Super MAC stations was in shambles, but not a total loss. The Covenant Loyalists had blow a big hole, yes, but the remainder of the network was still intact, forcing these..."Bugs" to run straight into the Fleet's guns to run to the hole, or get obliterated trying to punch through the rest of the network.

Hood stood on the bridge of the Leviathan, his eyes gazing over the tactical map. Mars had been effectively abandoned for now, after the Covenant had taken it, and Colonel Ackerson, during the First Battle of Mars. Since even considering colonization was a joke, they had left it alone. So, all they had to worry about was Earth. The holopanel next to him flickered and a hooded figure appear.

"Sir, incoming transmission from the Theoroshians."

"Put them through, Merlin."

Hood sighed; these people obviously hadn't gotten the hint earlier. Well, he was rather insulted for one that he didn't think they could hold. He said it earlier to help them get here faster. The UNSC could hold the line; as long as it wasn't anything like the Covenant or the Flood, and it wasn't in massive numbers, they could hold. That and Earth was their one hope to saving humanity, their symbol of human determination and victory, despite the damage done to it. They HAD to hold; they had something to learn from human tenacity.

With only 200 million left on Earth, they had to hold. They had fought off the Flood and the Covenant to protect them, and Goddammit, they would hold! Something the Theoroshians weren't understanding.

"Open a channel."

"Done, sir."

This is Fleet Admiral Hood. I am afraid you don't seem to understand the subtle hint I mentioned in my last message. We do not have the resources or defenses to go out and meet them in open battle. We have the resources, barely, to force back the enemy. And even then, we have to stick to protecting our homeworld, Earth. It's been damaged already, and we do not intend to let it be hit a second time.

I said there won't be anything left IF you don't come quickly enough. And that was when I thought I had less ships than I did. I have more, thanks to the volunteering of several captains, and two cruisers can take quite a lot, trust me. Now, we are staying at Earth and protecting it; it's the only thing worth taking in this system now. Mars is empty, Io abandoned...Earth is the only target. We will let them come to us. We can take care of ourselves, unless they have a full invasion force. You say they have some heavies; we have some, along with with a planetary defense grid, albeit with a large hole. We can hold, again, unless its a fleet that no one can stop.

Just get here and we'll hold them till you do, or we destroy them, giving the battle. So, we'll handle ourselves till you arrive. Fleet Admiral Hood out.

He turned to Merlin, whom muted his side of the channel. "I want all Longsword squadrons deployed and in formation around the fleet. Have all ships go to Code Red, and ready their Marine complements for anti-boarding, and have their weapons systems hot and ready to go. When these "Bugs" get here, I want them fast and dead."

"Comrade, our translation software is still kicking in, but....it appears to me they wish to stand and defend what they are calling...'Earth'. It must be their homeworld."

The Commodore nodded at that. Although the Federation had expanded, all Theoroshians considered Theo as their most sacred world. The Commodore looked at the holo display, and thought out all the options he had.

"One, comrades, we could meet with them and their 'defensive' clusters to destroy the enemy. However, the Bugs aren't stupid. They'll stay out of weapons range and use those damned suicide gunboats to ram. They have hundreds of them, and I don't know if our fighters can stop all of them. Even if we did, we'd have to engage their heavies eventually. Second, we could bleed them with fighter strikes, but they'd use those gunboats as a screen and then engage us. We wouldn't be able to survive a toe to toe engagement with their heavier battleline. Third, we-".

"Sir, CIC reports numerous hostiles incoming! Around one hundred gunboats, sir, as well as twenty one battle cruisers!"

"Sound General Quarters! Also, get our fighters out. Tell them to fight a delaying action, and move us at greatest speed towards this 'Earth' of theirs. We'll need to succor them into following us, and then these people will have to engage with their armored fortresses. Send them a message, and hurry up!"

The A.I. waved an arm and a list of ships appeared. "The cruiser Merrimack, the carriers Crusader and Faith, the destroyers Adam, Starlight, and Harvest, and the frigates Into the Breach, Night, and Dawn, are all half an hour from our position."

Hood turned to gaze at the space around them, and the tactical data of the thirty Bug ships coming to invade. He made a motion and the A.I. sent the orders. The Fleet Carrier Seraphim
"We are on route." said the comm as the seven ship fleet moved and releaced a shutle, as a urgant message came from the Terra!

Sir, we have been monitering communications between the UNSC and a group called the Theoroshians, it turns out that a hostle race known as the "Bug" is going to attack here. Due to the limits, we need to move the Terra in order to have our fighting units on site in time. What are your orders?
As Jason looked over the message, he sent a message to the UNSC and the "Theoroshians" so they would know what is ariving. "I Approve the moving of the "Cathedral Terra battle group to hold this planet. We will not let another planet fall to some parasites like ours!"

Simutanious Message to the UNSC and Theoroshians Fleet
We of the New Light Fleet will have to move our prised ship to aid in your fight. We had originally planed to give some time so you would not be as shocked as we where when we saw it, yet the time scale has changed, and in orger to launch our fleet, we will have to move the Salveged Moble Home Colony Ship Cathedral Terra and deploy our forces. As we warn you, we only found the Terra, so we are also unsure of it's capabilites. Yet the Fleet Within is going to launch to defend.

Not to far behing Mars.
The Large ship moves closer into range as the UNSC can see why they were concerned. The "Home Colony" was as almost as big as the moon! The Huge ship moves fast for something that size, and the design was defeantlly not from here.

Natalie smiled, as Granger, the devil’s advocate in this session nearly conceded defeat. She had won, approval was all but certain, til the last question was asked. Natalie’s shoulders slumped somewhat.

“It is true, that Centurious is not as mobile as I or you would like. She is a living being, and great care must be taken with her to move her from one area to another. But I must add, she is the first generation, and as with any first generation model, our hopes are that eventually we will be able to make her more mobile. At the present time though, the very nature of Centurious that makes her so desirable, so efficient and so secure, is the very same method that makes her harder to move. She is not an electrical signal that can move from server to server. She instead is a breathing and living woman, who’s senses extend throughout all computers that she is linked to.”

Dr. Leon sighed and looked at the panel’s reactions. “Unfortunately nothing is perfect, but she is an important step towards truly revolutionary computer systems.”

Hood stood on the bridge, watching the exchanges of fire between the Theoroshians and the Bugs, the distinct green forms of the Longswords fighting amongst them minuscule compared to the combat going on. But what they lacked in numbers, although they never fielded as many squadrons as some other nations did, they made up for in firepower, flexibility, and versatility.

He watched dispassionately as another destroyer, Harvest, appeared and moved into formation. "Sir? Incoming transmission. It's from the Seraphim."

He nodded. "Put it through." The officer typed in the command and the message played.

We of the New Light Fleet will have to move our prized ship to aid in your fight. We had originally planned to give some time so you would not be as shocked as we where when we saw it, yet the time scale has changed, and in order to launch our fleet, we will have to move the Salvaged Mobile Home Colony Ship Cathedral Terra and deploy our forces. As we warn you, we only found the Terra, so we are also unsure of it's capabilities. Yet the Fleet Within is going to launch to defend.

The message was quickly replaced by a massive ship that was immense compared to many of their own. However, he wasn't shocked. When one has encountered the ringworlds and ships of the Forerunner, one tends to not be surprised by immensity anymore. "Open a channel."

"Done, sir."

"Greetings, Terra. We thank you for the help, and look forward to working with you in rebuilding our nation. For now, just find a spot in the orbital defense grid that needs shoring up and get ready for the storm." Hood out.

He watched the battle continue, although Merlin showed up again to show him the feed of the Terra opening up and releasing its fleet. Hood's eyes narrowed. "Hmmm...thats not a bad idea. Did you record that?"

"Of course, sir."

"Good, because we may be able to use it later." He was interrupted by the sensor officer who turned to face him.

"Sir."

Hood looked at him and the grave tone of his voice. "They're in range, sir."

His eyes narrowed. "Understood, Lieutenant. Tell all ships to open fire and wait until they come too close to maneuverability before going to engage. All orbital defense stations are to fire when they come into range. Merlin, targeting data for the fleet."

A series of numbers appeared, with timers rapidly flashing as the ships came into range. He received the message to fire but he ignored it, waiting for the timer to finish. When it counted down and the screen turned red, he made a curt motion and the command was sent.,

Eight normal MAC's and two heavy MAC rounds were sent blasting towards the bug fleet, going a third the speed of fleet, with shells that were 600 tons. As the Bugs came into range, they were then bombarded with Super MAC shells that were 3000 tons and went even faster than the ship-fired MAC's.

The battle had begun and the UNSC would prevail, one way or another.

The scientists listened to her words and noted she agreed that they would be unable to move Centurious, which made military application doubtful, in the field at least. However, they did listen to her hopes of fixing the bugs, which had the other military people leaning in, their attention focused on her. Granger slumped in her seat, knowing her gut was telling the truth, that this was wrong for the UNSC. It was bad and would lead to disaster. But, as it appeared, human flaws still won out, even in the aftermath of near extinction. One of the military scientists stood up.

"Well, I would say we are all in agreement in allowing her to present the case to the U.N.? Unless you have something else to say Granger?"

When she said nothing, he nodded, smiling smugly. "Very well, I'd say we can-" The door burst open, to reveal the two Marines guarding the door. They moved in and curtly ordered.

"Alright, everybody get moving. Out, out out!" The military scientist looked outraged, until a voice came in over the loudspeaker.

"All personnel, we are under attack. As of 0725 hours, UNSC space forces have engaged an unknown enemy in space. All personnel are to report to evacuation centers. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill. All personnel are to follow their leaders and report to evacuation centers-"

The scientists then began to move on their own. A Marine walked over to L'eon. "My apologies, ma'am, but we have to move. I'll give you time to gather your stuff, but I have to ask to make it quick. If we are forced to fight on the ground, we'd rather not have you caught in the crossfire."

The unknown identity of those constructions was now known. Of course, it was a slight problem, but one which the Fleet could do little about. The Fleet faced little destruction, it knew that, but it didn't matter. The surveying fleet had done it's duty, and instead of retreating to safety, it resolved itself to take as many enemy ships with it.

Gun boats were launched, ships broke apart, and the last of the Bug's in the system were destroyed in a hellish array of flame and x-ray destruction.

Admiral Brant stared out across his flag bridge, watching the men and women of his ship work with the diligency and professionalism that had been forged in the crucible of war that was Interstellar War IV. Threatened with large forces of Bugs, and with their backs to the wall, his crew (and himself, he subconciously thought) had used their fighter advantage to spring themselves from the 'wall', and had successfully pushed the Bugs back, sustaining huge amounts of losses in the process.

However, Admiral Brant and his fleet survived, and now a rebuilt and reheartened fleet 'sailed' towards the hell that was 192nd Survey Flotilla's resting area. "Earth", as it was called.

He turned to his XO. "How much longer until we get there?"

The XO stared at a holo chart, and responded. "Two days, sir."

About 10 minutes later a reply came, no from the council member but from Atlantia as it droped out of transwarp "Permision has been given, dock and we shall proced with all haste to the planet." The scout docked with the cityship and then they headed towards tera via a precision hyper-jump.

As the cityship entered orbit above the planet Earth, they sent a mesage to the UNSC headquaters:
We are the cityship Atlantia, we where surveying this system and those near it and recived your call for help. We are authorised to help you rebuild, if you will acept it. Should you acept we will need a place to set down if we are to be sucsesful in this endever.

Hood watched as the Bugs withered, as predicted, under the assault of his planetary defense guns, his fleet, and the fleets of his newfound allies. He detailed several of the ships to comb the system for survivors, making them work in teams to prevent ambushes, and set about the aftermath.

"Sir, incoming message!"

"Put it through, son." He straightened his hat and looked at the message that was coming from the Theoroshians.

MESSAGE...START [Re: All]

The battle is over, comrades. For now, peace reigns.

Fifteen repair and supply ships from our headquarters are en route to this system with supplies. Also, we have five dreadnoughts coming in to help reinforce our positions. The Bugs will be back, but not for awhile yet.

As for now, I propose a meeting aboard one of the UNSC ships. I look forward to meeting Admiral Hood, and whoever is sent by the Terrans.

Commodore Jashunikov

"Open a channel."

"Done, sir."

"This is Admiral Hood. We thank you for your support in the battle, for the aid you are sending, as well for taking the time to reinforce our position. That helps a lot. I also agree to a meeting. It's been getting hard to keep up with you folks transmissions, so some face to face talking will help. We should use the station, the Hopeful. It's the center for the rebuilding effort, and we might as well use that anyways. I'll see you there. Hood out."

Hood sighed. Finally, he could stop answering all these messages and just sit down and talk. Wearily, he motioned for Merlin to inform the Allaneas, along with the Confederacy, that the battle was over and there was no immediate need for the cruisers, or the rest of the fleet, unless they felt like deploying them. He wouldn't refuse help, but he wasn't going to waste their money on a threat that was gone, for the moment.

He was preparing to open a channel to Jeromi when the alarms rang out. He gripped the bar. "Looks like the seemed to have gotten their second wind."

"Merlin, assessment." The alarms cut off as Merlin waved an arm and the tactical data screen appeared again. To Hood's surprise, only a single ship appeared....but it was in Earth's orbit. Merlin began to speak, and his furious anger dripped from every word.

"Well, sir, it would appeared that whoever this idiots are, they apparently decided to jump straight over our world. Oh, and they are sending a message." He waved an arm in disgust, to reveal their message.

We are the cityship Atlantia, we were surveying this system and those near it, and received your call for help. We are authorized to help you rebuild, if you will accept it. Should you accept we will need a place to set down if we are to be successful in this endeavor.

Hood put a hand over his eyes. He did not need this right now. "Open a channel, Merlin, and ONLY a channel. I don't want you reaming them out, as much as I'd like to do so. I'll speak to them."

The A.I. opened the channel and crossed its arms. "That's a good course of action, as I am tempted to fire a shell across their bow for their stupidity." Hood had to chuckle at that. Merlin was what people called the "cranky old man" A.I. He didn't like to be surprised, and when he was, for no good reason, he was very bitter.

"Atlantia, this is Fleet Admiral Hood of the UNSC. I am going to have to advise you don't pull such a ridiculous stunt again. If it weren't for the fact that the stations were recycling themselves after the battle we just had, they'd have blown you apart. Next time, choose carefully. We thank you for the help, however, and look forward to working with you. Coordinates to the station Hopeful are enclosed, and you can send a shuttle there. I currently do not have any space for you to land, except on planets, and I do not have the authority in that area. So, this is all I can do. Hood out."

Diplomatic Craft Terajima Ryoko

Seryozha Viktrovich Nikanor Walked on the dock from the Ryoko, and looked on with his group of five diplomats. Along with them, a portable computer with various things. He looked on his UNSC host, with a calm smile, "I am Seryoza Nikanor, and I wish to help you." as he and his group bowed, "We wish to enter your station."

"Copy that, we are sending the shutle now, be advised we are prepairing to transport relief teams to the surface if you want them. I hope we didnt cause alarm, friend, it would have taken hours to reach you at sublight speeds, maybe days."
From the port peir a single ship was launched. A troop transport with the citys govener and his S.S. escort, it began to head towards Hopeful at maximum speed.
OOC: sorry if i just sorta buted in but because there are a lot of very big posts I havent read the previos three pages so i might skrew a few things up, sorry if i do. Oh and city ships can land and float on water.

Aboard the ship shuttler that the Commodore is on

"Sir, we are going to be docked....now."

The Commodore nodded. "Good. Do I look presentable, comrade?"

The ensign detailed to flying the small ship nodded. "Yes, sir, you do. Would you like me to open the blast doors?"

The Commodore stroked his stub of a beard. "Yes, Mallorovik. It's time we meet this humans."

The Commodore, in his black and silver Navy uniform, stepped out of the ship and into the humans.

The UE, dragon, and Theoroshian representatives were met by a platoon of UNSC Marines, battle-torn in gear and look. The Sergeant walked up and nodded at them. "Greetings, the Admiral apologizes for his inability to come down in person but his many duties keep him from coming. Now, if you will follow me..." He turned and barked an order to the soldiers, who formed up around the group. They quickly, and quietly, moved through the station, going past rooms full of groaning, and even screaming, wounded and ended up in the main room. It was softly glowing in the lights of the computers, with the bridge crew working hard on their tasks, making sure the ship ran right. An old man with a uniform literally gleaming with metals stood gazing down at something with an aide, who was speaking quietly. His grayish-white hair gleamed in the light, and his beard and mustache gave him a kind of old wisdom kind of look. His eyes were sharp and quick however. He looked up upon hearing the stamp of boots and saw the diplomats.

Making a motion, the aide nodded and picked up his stuff, quickly exiting. Walking forward, he saluted the Sergeant, who saluted back. "As ordered, we have the diplomats."

"Good job, Sergeant. Your men and you go off and have some rec time. My treat." The Sergeant nodded, grinning.

"Thanks sir. And good luck."

"You too Sergeant. I've seen Sergei drink and he appears to be in place to win the drinking contest you lord over everyone."

The Sergeant laughed. "Not a chance, sir." The platoon turned and left, leaving the man with the diplomats. Turning, he held out a hand, his stance firm.

"Greetings; I am Vice Admiral Ysionris Jeromi, commander of this station, and overseer of the reconstruction effort. So, what may I do for you?"

A bright light erupted just outside of Mars, and before long, two ships emerged. One was a rather small, two-hundred meter exploratory vessel, the VFS Discovery

The other was a two kilometer long warship, the VFS Serpent. It was a Marathon-class cruiser, and was armed to the teeth with the latest nuclear, ion, and magnetic weapons technologies.

The two ships had begun exchanging readio comms before long.

"This is the Serpent. Discovery, are you hit?"
"Negative, Serpent."
"What the hell was that?"
"Slispace drive failure. We were forced out of the stream."
"How the hell did that happen?"
"The hell should I know! Send someone to engineering and find out!"
"Respect your god damn officer!"

It was then that the captain of the Serpent; Captain Michael Wilkes, noticed just where he was: in orbit around a rather small, pure red planet.

"Lieutenant Jenkins! Where are we!?" the captain yelled. He had barely regained his balence after he was thrown from his command chair.

"Sir...Documented system: Sol. Discovered in 12 K.C.C., sir."

"Sol, huh? Looks..."

The crew of both vessels lay silent while the message played, and stayed silent long after...

"Sir...was...was that in...English?"

"Yeah, lieutenant. Our language. United Nations? Sounds like the Assembly of Nations back on Vuhifell..."

"What should we do, sir?"

"Send a message back."

The lieutenant merely said a brief 'aye', before turning to his holo console, preparing to type down everything his commanding officer told him.

"This is Captain Michael Wilkes of the Vuhifellian cruiser, Serpent. I am broadcasting on all channels to the people of the United Nations Space Command. We have heard your plea for help, and rest assured, we will help in every fashion we can. We are de-activating our main MAC cannon as a sign of solidarity."

"The question, my friend, is not what you can do for the dragona, but what we can do for you?" gesturing to two of his escorts the counciler barked "bria fort ofera" and two of the guards, clad in silver platemail steped forward, carrying between them a black casket. "This is a cutting of the menora tree, a sacred icon of our world. I present it to you, as a gift of good will, and ask that you point us to where you need us most."

The humans wore strange looking uniforms (if they could be called that), the Commodore noted as he stepped forward. He pulled out his difargo knife and handed it, hilt first, to the human diplomat. "Greetings, comrade. Your ships are quite impressive."
