1º Villa de León Conference on Free Trade

Castilla y Belmonte
12-12-2007, 21:31
1º Conference on Free Trade

In the past decade the weak and discomposed economy of the Kingdom of Castilla, that was brought by years of government corruption and military dictatorship, has given way to a powerful economic rise. This economic rise has been termed an 'economic miracle' by the local media and it has stimulated the creation of vast indigenous industries. The Kingdom, which passed into a Constitutional Monarchy in the early 90s, is looking to capitalize on the economic success experienced lately by stimulating an even larger growth rate. The kingdom is interested in opening free-trade with an undefined amount of nations, and perhaps even create an international political cooperative to support international free-trade yet still help economically inferior nations to compete with much larger economies. In that sense, we're looking for free trade without the resulting economic shattering of poorer nations.

For that reason, the kingdom is inviting foreign dignitaries of any country interested on the topic, and in signing a free trade agreement, to the city of Villa de León. Ideally, this conference will open way to a widespread free-trade agreement between multiple countries and Castilla y Belmonte. The conference is scheduled to take place over the timespan of seven days and rooms will be provided to those who attend, and their staff.

Some ideas that will be put forth by the kingdom are:

- Barrier free trade between nations in good economic condition (economies of 'strong' or better).
- Establishment of rules and regulations on economic aid sent to 'treaty members' (if a treaty were to be signed) that are under the category of 'strong'.
- A militaristic pact which would agree to defend free trade between nations of the treaty. Military actions would be in proper defense, and military action is not something that will be forced upon member nations.

We await international responses. It should be noted that no nation will be denied attendance, and so there is no reason to ask. Just ask for reservations and they will be given.

Official Statement from the Federal Republican Duchydom of Franberry

The Federal Republican Duchydom of Franberry has always had a most favorable view of Castilla y Belmonte. There is no need to speak of the ethnic and cultural ties between our two nations, a similarity that is specially marked in the south of Franberry.

Whilst our people have in the past often shared and traded at will, and in practice our authorities have given little protectionism to what is in many cases transactions between brothers, fathers, sons, and whole families, we would be most interested in formalizing these ties. Henceforth, The Federal Republican Duchydom shall send diplomatical delegates to this conference on Free Trade.

Be informed, as of now, that Franberry is much more interested in a bilateral agreement with Castilla y Belmonte than in entering another economic bloc, as it already is reaping the benefits of being in the Mekugian Commonwealth.

Dios guarde a Vuestra Honorabilidad,

His Most Democratic Excellence,
President of the Federal Republican Duchydom of Franberry,

[TO] Castilla y Belmonte
[FROM] The Neo-Prussian Parliamentary Dictatorship of Kampfers

While we have no prior relations, I believe that now is the time to formally intoduce myself. I, Fuhrer Eric Richtoff, lead the nation of Kampfers valiantly against the forces of despair and evil in this world. Recently, we have receded into our own corner of the world, hardly venturing outside of our neighbors of Questers and Willink with teh exception to trade with mainly Contientian brethern. Now, I believe, is the time for Kampfers to once again consult with the outer world, and I believe that by deepining relations with Belmonte, I will make a good first step.

That being said, early this morning it came to my attention that another emerging nation in today's world has sought to better relations with the general public. Unlike the majority of these nations, however, your nation conducted itself with a distinguished air, and as such attracted the interest of the nation of Kampfers. By joining the Mekugian Commonwealth, you have found yourself allied to nations that Kampfers has found good relations with in the past, and more that Kampfers has yet to meet. Although Kampfers is not the largest of nations, the economy is seen by many notable economists as a powerhouse on the world stage. While Kampfers already practices free trade to all, we view this as an oppurtunity to develop cloer ties than those that laready exist. In the interests of shoring up political relations and developing economic ties between two growing economies, Kampfers would love to send a delegation to the 1º Conference on Free Trade.

Sincerely,
Fuhrer Richtoff

RE: Free Trade Conference

The Sovereign Kingdom of Bruxella would like to express its interest in attending this conference, recognising the similarities between our two Kingdoms and our apparently shared ideals of barrier free trade between nations. Barriers to trade are of little benefit in the NSWorld, where the economic success of one nation can impact upon us all.

We applaud your enthusiasm for this issue, and whilst we are wary of signing a treaty such as the one proposed, to create a single trade bloc, I look forward to meeting my counterpart from Castilla y Belmonte.

Yours,

OFFICIAL DIPLOMATIC COMMUNIQUE

To: Head of State, Castilla y Belmonte

The Imperium is interested in this conference and would like to send a delegate. I myself am knowledgeable in the field of international trade, and the Sacred Emperor has seen fit to nominate me as leader and Ambassador Extraordinary of the proposed delegation to the Villa de Leon Conference, and thanks to your generosity, we shall arrive in two days' time in Villa de Leon. We are looking forward to it.

Signed,

We're glad that already four nations have shown their interest in the conference. On that note, we'd like to say that we respect the opinions of our international colleagues. Furthermore, the nation of Franberry should be reassured that if an international pact is signed as a result of the conference the nations which are present in the conference are not binded to be part of it in order to reap the benefits of free-trade. In other words, should some sort of pact be created and Franberry not form part of it that should have no bearing on the establishment of free-trade between Franberry and the Kingdom of Castilla y Belmonte. That said, we're excited to know that our northern neighbor has interest in establishing a cooperative market with no barriers with us. Understandably, this has more than just economic meaning as it would also increase diplomatic relations between our two countries - relations which may have been strained during the military dictatorship of the 70s and 80s.

We'd like to thank Mr. Richtoff for his kind words, but we should make clear that Castilla y Belmonte does not currently form part of the Mekugian Commonwealth. It has been an unfortunate (for Mekugi-Castillian relations) turn of events that the kingdom has recently signed a series of accords with the Empire of Questers, allowing the latter four bases in our country in return for free nuclear technology and nuclear armaments. As a result, Mekugi has slightly turned their backs. However, this shouldn't send a message that our kingdom is not interested in bettering relations with Mekugi, or states in the Mekugian Commonwealth. Consequently, please let this have no bearing on your decision to join the conference.

Mr. Marsh, we are equally rewarded by your own majestically kind words. Furthermore, we're glad that your government has decided to send a delegation to the conference. We hope that your appearance stimulates further economic and diplomatic ties between the Kingdom of Bruxella and the Kingdom of Castilla y Belmonte. Finally, Mr. Vidann we're glad that you too have decided to join the conference in behalf of your kingdom.

All delegates and their staffs have their rooms reserved and will be escorted from the International Airport of Barajas, in Cuidad Real, upon arrival. Their transportation services will be given by government cars.

Until then,

RE: Conference on Free Trade

Greetings, Minister. I believe that this is the first official communication between our two nations, and it is my firm hope that it will not be the last. I have received word of the conference you intend to hold regarding the establishment of free trade, both with individual nation as well as possibly towards an economic alliance bloc. I am writing to request a reservation for two parties; one from my home nation of Orzio, as well as myself representing the League.

I look foward to working with you and our counterparts from several other nations in the hope that we will bring forth prosperity for our nations in many ways. Both parties should arrive no latter than two days time from this letter. Thank you in advance for your hospitality during this time, and again, I look foward to working with you.

Signed,

William Kane, Adm.
LION Sec. of Foreign Affairs.

Peace in Power
Economics Board
Herein, we have agreed to send a number of delegates to the Free Trade conferenced hosted by the honorable nation of Castilla y Belmonte. Our markets have always been as open as possible, nearly every nation of any type of government or society is allowed to partake in our markets, and investments are always handsomely paid off.

At the same time, we believe that this will indeed give us the chance to further relations with CyB, our two nations already have several joint weapons projects together, but we hope to greatly increase diplomatic and economic relations.

As such, when the date is announced, our delegates will arrive with their bodyguards and we look forward to a fruitful conference.

Welcome to the conference to those governments that have decided to send delegations! Mr. William Kane, rooms will be reserved for both parties and their members. I have equal hopes that this conference will aid in the development of an economic network between our two nations, and perhaps even an economic bloc. I hope that your future stay in Castilla y Belmonte proves to be fruitful for both of us - it certainly looks as if events will turn out positive.

The People's Freedom, Castilla y Belmonte has held semi-open trade with your nation for at least a decade - at least, we have at the beginning of the new democracy. However, understandably this has only been in small quantities and in limited ocassions. I truly hope that through this conference a formal economic network can be established between our two nations and we can both enjoy a barrier-free trade route. And, on the note about the possibility of our defense companies working together hopefully that can be one of the ambitions of any economic treaty which is borne from this conference. Standardization of as much equipment as possible for any defensive bloc is a don and should be considered - joint designs will facilitate common procurement policies.

Mr. Thomas Diggly of Shansekia, thank you for congratulating us on our eventful passage from dictatorship to constitutional monarchy. As we said in the opening invitation, no nation will be denied. Therefore, we would be honored to have a delegation from your nation partake in the conference. The same goes for Allanea and Vetalia.

Thank you all,

Subject: Free Trade Conference

We would first like to congratulate the government of Castilla y Belmonte for the progress made by the country in the last few years as the old dictatorial regime was deposed in favour of a more democratic system. Our nation will attend at the conference and it will be represented through the voice of councillor Adam O'Neil.

We hope that this conference will prove to be an opportunity to improve relations between our countries and establish a firm foundation for future growth.

Best regards,
Emilian Davout.

Abram Vidann, Kregaian Minister of Foreign Affairs, adjusted his tie and took a sip of his whiskey, glancing as he did out the window. Castilla y Belmonte. A small country, to be sure, but a growing one, and one of which word had already arrived at Sacred Emperor Ishamael's court. One to be watched, it was said. And so here he was: one of the most powerful men in the Imperium, personally supervising the Imperial delegation to the Villa de Leon Conference. Behind his own luxury plane flew a large C-7 Generia transport aircraft, carrying the economic analysts, secretaries, diplomatic aides, servants, and other personnel not attached to the Minister's personal staff. Abram took another drink. Profit, that's what he was here for; send an extra river of wealth coursing into the Imperium's treasuries. If the war with Doomingsland continued much longer, extra money would certainly be worth killing for.

His pilot called back from the cockpit, "My Lord, I've just made contact with air traffic control. They're directing us to land nearby. A Castillian party will meet us on the tarmac. We're beginning the final descent; could I ask you to please buckle up?" Silently, Abram complied, draining his whiskey and flicking a spot of dust off his flawlessly-cut suit. He reflected his thoughts inward, preparing mentally for the negotiations to come. The conference was about to begin.
