And the Fires Began to Cool ... [MT Re-Intro]

Citta Santo, Capital City of Nueve Italia

~ The celebration could not have been more grand. Parades marched proudly throughout the city's wide streets with crowds of people cheering them on; all of them bore the green, white, and red in some form or another.

The coming dusk was pierced by explosions of light as fireworks rocketed into the sky, dealing a severe blow to the fast-approaching dark. The clouds illuminated against this backdrop of color, the many on the ground could not help but marvel at such beauty as they began to converge on The Palace of The Republic, at the heart of the grand city. The loud bands began to quiet down, and the citizens shouted and whooped less and less as their leader made himself known on the steps of the Capitol building. His arrival was met with a thunderous applause from the millions watching, either at home or actually at The Palace: anyone watching the display (or even hearing it) could tell that, for probably the first time in their history, the Nitalian people were happy. No more war, no more death, no more destruction: only peace ...

" My fellow Nitalians," Emperor Antonio Orsini Gori began, his already empowering voice magnitude by the impressive array of stereo equipment, " today is a great day for The Republic. It is a great day fo we Nitalians. It is a great day for Freedom. It is a great day for Democracy. It is a great day for Peace!"

As he continued on in his speech, his normally calm voice became swept up in the fervor of the crowds, and by the end of his speech, the entire plaza in front of The Palace was roaring with cheers, echoing the sentiments that had been laid before them.

" We have seen more hardship than any peoples should ever know: we have fought, time and time again, for our very existence. We have faced our very extinction. We've defended against foreign invasion, defended against forces within our proud nation trying to tear us asunder. And yet, my fellow Nitalians, we are still here. And today, glorious of days, we shall finally realize our goal. My father's goal ..."

Upon the mention of The Revered Leader, Giovanni Dominicio Gori I, the nation fell silent in mournful respect. Killed by a traitor during the Nueve-Bandurian War, Giovanni Gori was the first elected leader of a unified Nueve Italia, and one of its greatest hopes for a country that would see a dream of living in peace. That dream was one his son, Antonio, sought to carry on. Elected unanimously upon the foundation of Citta Santo, Antonio had already seen his first major trial as a national leader (and hero) when he led the evacuation of Isola D'Argenta as it was destroyed by nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons launched from Banduria.

His second trial was the one through which his nation had just emerged victorious from: the Nitalian-Nargentan War. The rivals of Nueve Italia, Nueva Argenta, which had founded themselves on the Western side of Isola Dorata, the new home of the Nitalians, had sought the destruction of their brothers and sisters right from he very first laid brick of their nation.

Their leader, enraged at how the Gori "Dynasty", as he called it, had led the Nitalian people into a serious of wars, ruined its economy, and ultimately led to the destruction of Isola D'Argenta. The allegations were entirely falsified, but they did what they were designed to do: They roused the people of Nueva Argenta into a fury against their former leaders and homeland.

With the support of the people behind him, King Marco Pugli launched a war of attrition against his former Captain in the Nueve Italian Republican Air Force, Antonio Orsini Gori, with the intent of completely destroying Nueve Italia. One man's lust for vengeance had turned into a national sentiment, and thus the battle began.

Pushed back to the coastline, it looked as if Nueve Italia was about to fall. However, a change of heart among Giuseppe Palaccino, a skilled general who had defected to Nueva Argenta at the onset of the war, turned against his new master, and began leading Nitalian forces once again. With his knowledge of the enemy, all the branches began their counter-attack against their aggressors, with countless heroes being made daily, and dozens more dying in proud service of The Republic.

With his thirst for revenge growing with each defeat, Marco Pugli had become a madman, ordering executions for any who merely questioned him. The people of Nueva Argenta, realizing their mistake for following such a deranged man down a path of violence an destruction, began to riot. The military defected to the Nitalian divisions they came across, and Pugli was eventually killed by the people he had sought to use in his vendetta. A peace treaty was immediately signed between the two nations, and, rather than exist as separate entities, the Nargentans realized how foolish they had been to split from Nueve Italia.

At present, the nation is whole once again.

After the respects paid to The Revered Leader had passed, Antonio continued on,

" We are a unified nation once more: no longer will Nitalian blood be spilt by fellow patriots! No longer will we succumb to Civil War! My fellow Nitalians, this is our proudest moment. I now ask that we honor those that have made this moment possible."

At the last line, a soldier, who had been seated behind the podium from which the Emperor was making his address, rose and made his way to stand next to Antonio. The leader produced a medal from a small box and, as the soldier bowed to Antonio, he gently placed the award around the man's next.

" Captain Cristiano Ceri," Antonio started, making sure that it was this man who received the attention of a nation, and not himself, " for your service to The Republic, for your bravery in the face of unconquerable odds, and for your valor in fighting to defend our way of life, I am proud to honor you with the Cross of Valor: the highest award any citizen-soldier can receive. Wear it proudly, and know that every Nitalian will forever regard you as a hero."

More deafening applause followed the short ceremony as yet another soldier stood. The awarding of the Cross of Valor continued for a good hour, and many of Nueve Italia's most famed and honored soldiers stood in front of millions to receive their cheers. It was truly a moving sight: many of these men and women had been fighting since The Great Southern Insurrection, and only now were receiving the commendations and attention that they rightfully deserved.

Afterwards, as the ceremony was winding down, Antonio made a declaration to the global community.

" Esteemed leaders and governments of the world: our nation has withdrawn itself from the international stage in an attempt to set our country on the right path, one that we could look to for precedent as we continue our journey. I'm both pleased and honored to, once again, declare The Open Port Act to be reinstated: all foreign trade and travel will be re-allowed in Nueve Italia, now that the internal situation within the nation has been stabalized. We extend open arms to all who wish to grace our lands, and welcome all business ventures and opportunities for growth."

The celebration continued on until well after the first strands of light began rising over the horizon, with absolutely everyone joining in. The most stand-out feature of the celebration was a mark of graffiti that had appeared on the side of a rather large skyscraper throughout the night. It looked as if someone needed rather special equipment to write such large letters on such a high part of the building, making some people think that it was the window cleaners who had so purposefully desecrated their building. However, as the words had stayed there for some time after, it seemed that they had taken a certain amount of pride in their art.

Upon the building's side, visible from all across Citta Santo, seeing as it was the tallest skyscraper in the city, one could clearly see the phrase,

Hail The Republic

Good so far. Is this a big event that's going to develop or just an everyday intro?

OOC: Mainly just a way to re-establish ties of diplomacy and trade, and provide a backstory on why my nation was removed from the international stage due to my inactivity. I have a few other celebrations/events in mind: whether enough interest is sparked in my nation will determine how many of those events will take place. Thank you for the compliment as well.
