Civilisation

I was thinking the other day, and I thought, why not have a civilisation game? It would be interesting. So, I decided to gather up some people and brainstorm. My idea is as follows:

Starting points in the world are in present-day Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, etc. The capitals of modern countries. Then, people RP their way to the top, with a miniature tech tree and fixed resource chart to guide their way. If the idea pulls through, I'll make an off-site forums for it.

Thoughts?

UPDATE:
It's actually quite active during the day. Join up! There's still thousands of starting points!

It sounds good and interesting, it would just be hard to create a way to actually create a tech tree (like what you would put in it) and how you could make it interesting and interactive and judging how you advance.

Hmm... Does sound very interesting. Like the above guy said though, creating tech trees would be difficult.

I have the Civ IV tech tree, so I'll use that and modify it.

You could try an actual civ3/4 PBEM. Not everyone would have those games, though.

I want a NS style civilisation, since I don't want to play actual Civ IV right now.

Stok's right. Not only is it "Civilisation" in British English, French, Danish and Swedish, it is also historically spelled "Civilisation" in the English Language as it comes from the Latin "Civilis".

*Cough* :Removes nerd cap and replaces with cool shades: *Cough* :p

The reason Americans put "z" instead of "s' in civilization is the same reason that Americans dropped the "u" in honor and armor as well as spelling words like theater with "er" rather than "re". We wanted spelling that matched our pronounciations. Since British people still pronounce words like theatre as if it was theater, our spelling system is more intuitive and easier to grasp. :D

Hey Greal! What would you think about a PMT/FT version of this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Meier%27s_Alpha_Centauri)?

I heard some PBEM guys wrote some very interesting stuff (http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=154245)

That would be cool, but it would take some time to set up, not to mention, a map......
