Massive war protests in Jesselton

Questers

This morning it was noted that the large anti-war crowd that usually sits outside the House of Commons in Questers' Imperial Capital of Jesselton had doubled in size. In order to avoid Government crackdowns and arrests, the protest had been planned in total secrecy, with word of mouth spreading the news just hours before. The large anti-war protests that followed on from the announcement of military action in Nova Europa resulted in more than a hundred thousand arrests after just under half a billion people protested the military intervention nationwide. Government police and Security Services had arrested ringleaders and militants in the aftermath, and the following week had been considerably more peaceful.

However, this morning, the crowd swelled from just a thousand people to a whopping 500,000 by eleven pm. The military strikes that crushed two Trivalvian and Naashan battlegroups the day before were received well by pro war supporters and media and the military, but showing that Questers was winning the conflict did not go down well with peace protestors and doves, who believe that the military used too much force in dealing with Nova European ships.

At lunchtime almost a million people packed the streets and the trademark police helicopters, tear gas, and water cannons were at the ready. By one o clock, special branch and riot police were alerted but so far the protest was peaceful, and currently is still peaceful, having constantly picked up speed throughout the day. Nationwide it has been reported that between fifty and a hundred million people are on the streets protesting the conflict, but violence has incredibly not yet broken out.

The new proclaimed leader of the pressure group "Free the Dove", the largest anti-war movemen tin Questers, spoke to Reuters. "The amount of force used against Trivalvia and Naasha was uneccessary. How many Naashans and Trivalvian mothers and fathers received the telegram yesterday telling them their sons won't go back home? And for what reason? Because our King wants to prove something to his newfound Doomani friends? Because we think we have a right to tell other countries what do do with their land? Why did our military forces use the level of power they did? It can't be because we wanted to prevent our own losses, because it said yesterday that casualties were almost six hundred men. Think about it. Why do we need to be in this war, and why do we need to be killing people from other countries?"

The themes behind most anti-war protests are not just financial constraints, of which many economists have warned the Absolute Monarch of Questers, King Alexander II, but disagreement with foreign policy and cooperation with Doomingsland, but also general opposition within a growing middle class intelligentsia and from the newfound music industry and students against the imperialist and interventionist Questarian policies. On the streets today, Anarchists, Communists, State Socialists, and Libertarians set aside their differences to protest the Government's actions.

Oppressive evildoers once again face the avenging hand of world revolution
Millions of Questarians take to streets in open defiance of their government's foolhardy policies

Today, in an unprecedented but inevitable turn of events, the citizens of Questers displayed their courageous dissent to their bourgeois-controlled puppet government and its insane policies by means of peaceful protests through the streets of Jesselton and across the nation. While continually menaced by hundreds of fascist enforcers, they successfully retained their peace and so gave no excuse for the enemy to massacre them.

Reports say that up to five hundred million Questarians joined in the protests, displaying solidarity and courage against the countless hordes of brainwashed slaves to the imperialist government that continue to support its meaningless and counterrevolutionary war, that has left over six hundred thousand Questarians dead as well as countless others. This comes not long after the Questarian government brutally crushed a popular uprising by the proletariat, and sends a clear message to Questarian leaders that the spirit of the Revolution is far from dead.

While the protests remained peaceful today, even in these numbers peaceful revolt is ineffective. We say, let even more Questarians take to the streets; take heart from the appearance of so many of your comrades, and cast aside the fascist beliefs you have been fed from birth by a huge and vicious propaganda machine; speak out for what you know to be right! The pockets of the bourgeouis may yet be bulging with the sweat of the honest working man, but the Fascist octopus has sung its swan song; it is time to throw the jackboot into the melting pot and root out the skeleton in the Questarian closet -- that of the long-suppressed Communist movement. Overthrow the dictator! Unseat the General! Let the prisons burn and the nuclear bombs be cast into the sea; let the publishers be ruined and the schools closed down. For only once the institutions of the oppressive government are removed will the citizens be truly free.

Once again, the rogue, imperialist state of Questers demonstrates its lack of respect for human rights, as if the acquiescence to the creation of an absolute monarchy, such as what rules the tyrannical nation of Doomingsland, now ruling in Questers with the tacit approval of the people, were not enough.

My own nation has suffered at the hands of Questarian imperialism. My problem is not with the Questarian people; they are like the Kraven or Doomani people, brainwashed by their evil government. My problem is with the mentality that allows people to rule a nation simply because of their bloodline, take total control of that nation, and use it as a vehicle of hatred, warmongering, capitalistic imperialism, and mass enslavement of the workers.

People of Questers, you may feel free to ignore me as a communist agitator. Feel free to think, this bitch doesn't know what she's talking about. She is, after all, a product of "Kahanistani," to use your preferred demonym for our people, "brainwashing passing as education." But look at what is actually taking place in your nation: do we have an absolute monarch in our nation? No! And we never will, until the last citizen of our nation is killed and foreign colonisers take over, Heaven forbid.

War only breeds hatred. I can tell you this as someone who has fought in the Kraven wars, and who has opposed Freekish and Doomani aggression as a soldier and as a politician. War, especially against nations that are no threat, and which respect human rights, will only breed further anti-war movements, which will not be suppressed by water cannon, attack dog, bayonet, bullet, or even the dreaded cross.

May Questers once again see democracy and see the freedom of her people to speak out against the tyranny and imperialism of her government.

Questers

The anti-war protests that rocked Questers yesterday in Jesselton have spread and despite growing crowds and the news of casualties rising to nine hundred dead are remaining peaceful. By well into the afternoon the protests had spread to Beaufort and Kingston and it appears the riot police and security services have not yet moved in, not wanting to provoke a conflict. Almost four hundred million nationwide are demonstrating against the military intervention, saying that the Government is taking orders from Doomingsland and chanting various anti-fascist slogans and anti-war slogans.

The leader of the only allowed left wing pressure group the "Questarian Internationale Branch" spoke to AP Reuters.

"The Capitalists have gone too far. Our group has received both messages of support from Kahanistan and Murra, and today we are still on the streets protesting the Imperialist actions by this Government and their Doomani paymasters. Our slogan is No Blood for Empire, among others, but this clearly describes our Government's actions, and it is despicable."

As protests spread to Beaufort and Kingston, army units moved into to surround the three cities and many people left the city temporarily. It is estimated the total damage to the Questarian economy this day is approximately £95,000 ($48bn) with many offices and factories closing. Furthermore, schools have closed as many students have too taken to the streets in protest. Many key areas of Jesselton have been closed down.

A Reuters correspondent asked a group of students "What are you protesting and why?"

Their response was strong.

"Because we're like ... 'cos we're like fighting Fascism or something or like ... y'know, 'cos we don't think we should be fightin' a war for more land n' that."

"Do you know what Fascism is?"

"Yeah, its like when you start wars n' stuff or you don't let people vote n' whatever, basically its like-"

"Y'know it's like being oppressive."

At the beginning of the evening, the King himself went on national television and radio and requested the protests to end. "We should all support our troops and military intervention to defend an ally of ours, The People's Freedom." He urged all demonstrators to "Return to your homes and jobs" and stated that it was wrong for this fraction of the country to hold down the others. "This country will not be taken hostage by strikes and demonstrations. I give a stark warning to protestors. Demonstrations will not continue tommorow."

In response to the current ongoing protests in Questers the Lone Alliance International Equality Ministry had this to say,

"It is a very brave thing what the people in Questers are doing, and we encourage them to continue to press on. Before Questers is simply used like all Doomi 'allies' are, as cannon fodder lackies, if you value your soldiers lives, you will not allow their lives to be used for another's gain."

The Socialist Party anounced a steadfast support of the protests with other parties giving support 'some grudingly' as well.

Official Message from the Federal Sultanate Duchydom of Franberry

The Federal Sultanate Duchydom of Franberry hereby declares its hopes of goodwill and prosperity to the Questarian Empire and its people while they suffer this time of hardship at the hands of democracy-hating extremist terrorist cells.

If requested, Franberry shall do all possible to aid its Questarian ally, and prevent that the great nation of Questaria be taken hostage and destroyed by terrorist sympathizers who wish nothing more than the break-down of one of the great prosperous powers of our age.

To the statements by the nations of Kahanistan and Murra, we can only say one thing, Questaria Shall Prevail! Do not doubt for a single second that the specter of totalitarian communism shall never set foot in the Questarian Empire, a nation that values Liberty and Freedom.

God Save the King!

His Most Democratic Excellence,
President of the Federal Sultanate Duchydom of Franberry,
Geoli Joolitan

Franberrian Embassy, Jesselton
The sprawling Franberrian Embassy was one of the biggest in Jesselton, a display of the great relation between the two nations. The friendship between the two states stretched as far back into history as the massive stone pillars of the Embassy stretched into the sky, which is to say, quite a bit. The diplomatic personnel had all been recalled into the embassy grounds, the ancient, currently rarely-used, diplomatical quarters now had people inside them again, leaving its function as an over-luxurious storeroom and retaken its former occupation as living quarters. The diplomats and staff that lived outside feared reprisals due to the friendship between Questaria and Franberry, especially after the message that was sent out by the government in Franciscopolis.

However, one could never be fully sure of the fury and extent of any riot. Therefore, his Democratic Excellence, had ordered the Embassy Guard out of the small barracks it occupied on one of the extremities of the massive sprawling grounds that the embassy occupied in the midst of Jesselton. The perfectly cut grass, the glowing flower beds, all trampled under as the few armored cars available were deployed along the grounds. The entrances were barricaded, and the windows covered. Many pessimistic decisions taken by the Ambassador, but one could never be too safe, especially when communist terrorists were about.
