Biowank-Pushing our citizens to the limits

People of NS! Realism enforcers and freethinking sci-fi folks alike, I have a question for you:

What is the acceptable lifespan for the average citizen of a MT/PMT, developed, Northern-Temperate, nigh-pollutionless nation with free healthcare?

I ask this because in more liberal rp communities, chiefly regional forums, Other nations, and myself, have jacked our average lifespans to...(Puritanical realists should sit down beofre reding)...90-450 years.

Stop! Before you scream "OH NOEZ! WANK ALURT! CAL TEH n00b POLISE!", hear what I've got to say.

In RL Earth, there are societies, like West-Coast Adventists, Sardinians, and Himalayan peoples that have lifespans darastically longer than those of supposedly "advanced" societies like the urban UK and the U.S. In the highly inflated world of NS, it should be reasonable to have a few 200-year-olds walking around, right?

Without a pretty damn low death rate, how else do we ICly explain how our populations miraculously gain 1 million people each NS month(RL day, assuming)?

Wait! Dont refer me to the dreaded stickies yet! A nation of centarians won't be your downfall! I am not saying that I'm creating a race of immortal super warriors that swat away ICBMs like flies. In fact, having a uber-long lifespan won't give you any military advantage. No matter how long your people would naturally live, a bullet goes trough one's heart all the same, no?

Opinions?

I'm not aware of any of those claims to ridiculously long life being proven. I'd say fourscore and ten is the average, fivescore and ten the upper boundary, and perhaps a few people out of several billion might reach sixscore - and most everyone is a walking corpse in a rest home after 85 or so. You're not going to get anything more without genetic engineering that's mostly considered to be beyond the bounds of "modern-tech".

I'm PMT, and aside from engineering out pesky hereditary diseases and other such unpleasentness, I don't go for actual enhancement due to a cultural stigma about such things.

Good way to bring up this subject (WAIT! LISTEN BEFORE YOU CALL THE N00B POLICE!).

I think that Tsaraine covered it pretty effectively (and I have to commend Livria for seizing this opportunity to advertise), but I want to note that there doesn't need to be an especially low death rate to have such a high number of people being born each set period of time; given the extremely large populations, the growth rates of a couple million wind up being relatively low growth rates (fractions of a percent).
