Introduction:
Today's date is October 30, 2800. The United Terran Federation, an 'alliance' of planets ruled by one long-lived dictator, has declared war on the New Union, a group of fifteen newly-colonised planets.
You can be either a Terran Federation soldier, or a Union Revolutionary Forces freedom fighter. Come on folks.
---
The good Union ship Magdalene flew silently through the heavens. Its quiet nature seemingly belied the very existence of the ten thousand Union troopers on board, heading for the Federation outpost nearby. The only real evidence of its existence was the plasma trail it left behind, and the many small dark dots dispensing from it. Each dropping to an altitude of one hundred metres, they continued their flight towards the Federation complex, as the Magdalene opened a hyperspace interstice and disappeared from sight.
Lieutenant Second Class James Jackson was onboard one of these small dark dots - a Myo-class flak patroller dropship. A repurposed Federation civil transport ship, it had been outfitted with repeating plasma rifles and high-yield explosive ordnance pods.
Suddenly, a pulse from the dropship engines pushed the Lieutenant deep into his seat, as the dropship picked up speed for its final run. He lifted his arm and pressed a small red button on the bombardier's console in front of him, and the ordnance pods discharged their deadly cargo.
