The Palisade, Somewhere in Aequatius Prime

President Holden Reid had called the military leaders and other government officials to the secret protected complex in order to discuss the situation dealing with Gens Romae, especially after the threat of nuclear strike had been called out against the ally of Automagfreek. "Despite these... parasites not being worth our time, I would still prefer to avoid exploring the even slightest potential that there could be nuclear warheads even targeting Gholgoth."

The Air Marshal of the Air Force spoke, "Sir, I would suggest launching a first strike against Gens Romae, eliminating all potential counterforce weapons as well as decapitating their leadership in one fell swoop, leaving the countervalue targets open to attack at our leisure."

"Excellent, we shall make an example of this shithole right away," Said the president as he sipped from his coffee and swallowed the beverage, "Summon the fires, I refuse to let the Freeks steal our thunder over these bastards, we were the first to threaten them and now we're to end it."

The Western Desert, Aequatius Prime

The massive missile silo complexes throughout the desert which were home to the Aequatian Republic Strategic Command's largest weapons in their possession, the LGM-218E Widowmaker intercontinental ballistic missiles, complete with a collection of a dozen MIRVs each armed with a four megaton thermonuclear warhead. They would cold launch from their own silos in the desert and thrust into orbit into their midcourse phase, each of the warheads would be targeted against potential sites that could potentially contain nuclear weapons or the command infrastructure that could launch a second strike against the Republic or Gholgoth, although this was of little concern, given the vastness of the region's combined missile defence systems.

Once the order was passed down from the Palisade to the automated command bunker nodes, the missiles were prepared for launch as across the desert along with their partner sites in Aequatius Nord and just south of the Jada Rainforest. In total, nearly thirty thousand individual missiles, the first wave consisting of fifteen thousand targeting potential sites of enemy weapons within Gens Romae, and successive waves of five thousand missiles targeting other important command infrastructure, government and military facilities, seeking to utterly decapitate the Roman leadership.

As the first wave was launched, a message was broadcast to the world and Gens Romae, President Reid spoke to the cameras from his desk:

"Citizens of the world and the parasites of Gens Romae and those subhumans of the Corporate Alliance, I come before you today to issue this warning.

Those who do not heed the Aequatian Republic will be severely punished by the most devastating means necessary, let the extermination of the citizenry in Gens Romae be a shadow cast over the world of our position. The leadership of Gens Romae chose to not only disregard our warning, but utterly ignore our mercy, this grave insult carries the worst of all punitive actions... AS WE WARNED THEM!

To the Corporate Alliance, we ask that you be aware of your members and seek to keep them on a short leash from now on, because this is not the first time we will punish your own for overstepping their yard.

To those in Gens Romae, may god have mercy on your souls, for we could not."

At the conclusion of the broadcast, the missiles of the first wave had reached the middle of their boost phase and were ascending towards their apogee in their ballistic arch towards Gens Romae.

GRIFFITH-II stood on top of a podium, several S.T.F. Grand Guardians around him. Thousands of people were assembled in front of him. A mix of snow and rain was falling, as usual.

"Silence!" the Grand Commander shouted, and almost instantly, it indeed fell silent.

"We have been threatened with violence from the Roman Empire. Our allies have been threatened by the same. The Roman Empire has made false claims on the globe. They are determined to put the entire Father World under their command. This, of course, directly threatens our nation. We, individually, are outnumbered by nearly nine to one, but our military has proven superior to numerous nations. Along with this, we have numerous friends and allies, who, put together, completely dwarf the Romans. We will not fail. We will not surrender. I hereby declare the entire nation into a direct threat state. All citizens, I ask for you to do your part in this war. This conflict will prove to be bloody and costly, but I know you can do this."

After delivering the entire speech, the Political Command Sector of Magna Polis exploded into cheer. At recruiting stations across the country, people were lining up to take part in the war.

OOC: Gens Romae, I am still waiting on a response from you concerning this attack.

Everyone else, this is an all-out attack, there will be no invasion of G.R.

OOC: I'm not sure if I should respond at all. It's coming from nations that are vastly larger and older than my own against whom I didn't make a declaration of war, and for whom there is no adequate reason for going to war.

Granted, I did wage a "war" yesterday, but that really was a joke war which ought not have any lasting consequences for either party.

Quite simply: I see no reason I should acknowledge it at all. I'm not going to acknowledge the attack of someone against whom I stand no real chance of beating.

Granted, I suppose I could rp an SDI defense and a nuclear counterstrike (Against all parties so involved), but somehow I feel that even if I do fight back appropriately, this thread is ultimately going to be reduced (on both our parts) to accusations (on the part of the other) of noobishness and wankery.

So sure, I suppose I can post an adequate response if you really feel like it...but do you really want to go down that road? :)

What I would advise is to take your licks and deal with it. Ignoring legitmate attacks doesn't help your RP credibility at all.

OOC: Myself being one of them. My old nation, Nova Brittanica, tried to liberate British Londinium. Seeing no alternative, they resorted to a nuclear exchange, which resulted in some deaths on the SL side, and the destruction of NB. I continued RP'ing, with my population fleeing to Vantanas, and my nation being a nation of survivors. You'll find it's only you that can make yourself "lose" NationStates.

OOC: Gens Romae: This attack is a "limited" first strike which is to eliminate the possibility for your nation to strike back with a second strike. No cities are being directly attacked with the warheads, only potential military installations like missile silos, missile bases, air force bases and other military/government facilities that would help your nation strike back at myself or AMF.

I chose to limit the attack since I did not feel it was right to glass two billion people right away.

OOC: On what grounds? And for the record, it's called imperialism, and my nation is one of the biggest warmongering imperialist nations there is. I don't particularly care what your nation has or hasn't done, because as Questers said with the way you've been tossing your weight around, the big dogs are going to notice and do something about it.

You've gone out of your way to attract attention recently, and unfortunately for you it's the wrong kind of attention.

In Gens Romae, every sonar system in the country is going crazy. Thousands upon thousands of missiles are on their way to various points of the country. This being confirmed, before the Imperator is even made aware of it, the various SDI systems employed by the Roman, by land and sea and space, are activated, and a massive number of conventional missiles are deployed against those oncoming missiles to a ratio of at least 10 to one (Before I hear cries of NEWB, this isn't that much. 5000 missiles were sent...this means only 50,000 missiles are needed to stop it...even at a cost of a million per missile, that only comes out to like 50 billion).

The missiles meet in the air, and there are great explosions and watnot over the Mediterranean Sea. On account of the ratio involved, there are no hits scored on the part of Aquatio.

In response, Rome's own hypersonic nuclear ballistic missiles are made ready, and prepared to fire against those states which She would have the greatest chance of glassing:

Faxanavia
Alacia
The Grand World Order
Toori

Nuclear cruise missiles are aimed and fired at each major, medium, and small city of these nations at a ratio of at least 5 missiles per city. If unstopped, the chances are that these nations will be completely flattened.

Meanwhile, dozens of nuclear subs submerge hundreds of miles near Aequatio, AutoMagFreek, Vontanas, Carbandia, Amazonian beasts, Zakaroth, Errikland, and questers and fire over a thousand hypersonic nuclear missiles against every major city of each on a ratio of at least 10 to one, 20 missiles being fired at the capitals of the same.

The idea, Zackaroth, is that they as close as possible without being in danger. If there is a station there, assume the missiles are launched out of range of that.

The Fxanavians were ready for the incoming assault. Satellites came online instantaneously, and the anti-air arsenal of Faxanavia let rip with several thousand missiles blasting into the sky and down from space. The missiles screamed through the sky, intercepting a great percentage of the Gens Romae missiles, but not all of them. People screamed, burning in agony from the firey explosions decimating across the sky and the ground. Men burned, women screamed, children died. Cities wer ripped apart. The sky turned white with fire.

Almost immediately, the Faxanavians responded with its own might. close to a thousand long range ICBM's fired, and over 60 10 megaton explosives dropped from the sky, fired by Faxanavia's missiles systems. Conventional cruise missiles began following, as well as the Faxanavian Ham Slam Missile (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13074790&postcount=1), which would decimate what little agriculture would be left.

Several hours after the initial strike, the damage was done in Faxanavia. Thousands were dead, and more were dieing from radiation poisoning by the hour. Emergency teams were doing what they could, but many Faxanavian cities would be lost. Already, the airforce was prepping for a bombing run over Gens Romae. Thousands of bombers would be mobilizied. The Romans would pay.

Even then, I launched a total of 15,000 missiles with the first wave, with three more waves to come after that which each contained another 5,000 each. Learning to read might do you well also.

Strategic Airfield 193

The small, paved tarmac was teeming with operators and soldiers. Accompanying the men was an enormous Antonov An-225 airplane, which was already fueled and ready to depart. In a matter of minutes, the colossal giant was in the air, heading towards Gens Romae. Flanking the aircraft were four MTA-F01 Whisper's, which had the sole purpose of protecting the An-225, whatever the cost be.

Luckily for the Carbandian goverment they hadn't wasted their defense budget on something as expensive as nuclear weapons, instead having spent a enourmous sum of money in building a anti ballistic missile defense system that had few equals among nations of a similar size.

Only one missile of the ones fired got through, all the others having been destroyed by the layered abm and sam networks, although for the 70 thousand inhabitants of the peacefull city of Viipuri this was little consolation, as it suffered a direct hit.

As a fellow Gholgoth-Minorite we would be loathe to see any nuclear instability visit our region at the hands of an external whelp. Because of this, any and all incoming weapons within range of Agrandan missile defence will be engaged and destroyed immediately. If the attack intensifies then further measures shall be taken.

At this time no retaliatory action is planned, although two air fleets have been put on rapid response as a precaution. If the Republic desires it, then the Sixth Naval Fleet can be manoeuvred into Zakarothian waters within 12 hours for additional defence.

Know that you have Agrandov's complete support in this unjustified assault.

Sextus Augustus and the other important people of Gens Romae enter the aircraft sent them by Maldorians, and enter the passenger seating area to be greeted by hookers. Once the plane takes off to ferry them to Maldorians, the delegates are thoroughly entertained.

Bastards.... Azrael muttered as news of the nuclear launch against Gens Romae reached his desk. He skimmed through the bried report and scratched the weeks worth of beard growth on his chin before nodded in approval at what the Aequatians had done. I didn't know they had it in them, I'm impressed. Not only firing nuclear weapons against some pathetic weakling, but doing it as to not have their 'thunder stolen'. They wish to keep their honor intact, and I can respect that.

Marv Bonesplitter was in the room preparing to issue a military response, but after hearing Azrael's words he was unsure, looking at the Warlord curiously. So....what is our course of action, are we standing down? The young leader cast a fiery glare his way, before chuckling with an evil undertone. Fuck no, I'm going to be outdone! Bonesplitter gave a laugh out of instinct before composing himself and bowing respectfully before exiting the room.

It was no more than five minutes after Bonesplitter left that alarms went off at the Great Hall, signaling that something was amiss. A nuclear launch had been detected from the ocean inside Freekish waters, and the AMF navy that was currently engaging the invading forces from Telros were quick to respond. As the enemy missiles took to the air, AWACS and sensors from the Freekish surface fleet picked them up and promptly organized a defense. Figher and ship based interceptor missiles were launched en mass towards the targets from a wide spectrum of angles, while space based missile batteries responded with a salvo of their own. Satellites hurridly streamed data towards ABM installation on the Freekish mainland and all air and naval forces in the entire theater. The meager nuclear attack would be doomed to utter failure as the sprawling Freekish defense grid sprang to live and began firing hails of 'Hellrage' AI guided missiles. The larger Gholgothic defense network was also brought fully online, and outpost installations across the entire region began launching vollies at every inbound missile with the intent of destroying them far from any mainland.

Intel that had been watching Gens Romae also noted a launch of missiles that Freekish satellites deemed to be a non-threat, for the profile that was scanned and recognized by the large database at Camp Rock determined that the cruise missiles would not have enough range to go anywhere near Automagfreek or Gholgoth itself.

Azrael was quick to respond to this attack with a launch of his own. Outposts, military installations, and nuclear missile equipped ships across the Empire readied their silos and launchers for a full strategic response, firing off tens of thousands of HOUND V3's; some of the most advanced nuclear missiles in existance that could not only defend itself mid-flight, but also deploy dozens of MIRV'd warheads to decimate a large area. An initial launch of 22,000 missiles would supplement that of the Aequatians and be followed up with a second wave of missiles of similar numbers, while Freekish and Gothic defenses continued to remain vigilant in the event of further nuclear attacks.

Meanwhile, people rapidly restock the SDI systems in expectation of more pwnage.

From the Navy thousands upon thousands of Surface to Air missiles rise in as though a cloud of death and destruction against the bombers which are sent against him by Faxanavia.

ZAackaroth had been expecting a nuclear attack. When the subs where spotted off the coast of Jericho, Zackaroth readied it's ABMS. Using Vetekas OBRAT system, the Freeks ridicoulsy protective SDI system and there own gave Zackaroth an advantage. With only three true major cities, Zackaroth was ready. Unlike the Romans, Zackaroth only had about 1000 nuclear missles since they switched over to Chemical, and Biological weapons.

All over Zackaroth, the ABMs shot from there pods and up into the intended targets. An island off the coast of Zackaroth where the first to be launched and destoryed a good chunk of the missles that had just been launched. The ones from the main land destoryed those who where able to surive the Freeks help or the first counter-attack. Zackaroth was safe for now from a nuclear waste land.

Right now the High Leader was deciding to breathe a sigh of relief and had to decide whether to attack in a nuclear strike or invade the doomed country...

The planes soon landed at the designated positions and the soldiers hopped off the airlifter. With the 'goods' abroad the aircraft, the group proceeded to head back to Maldorians, where the Roman officials would be kept safe. Sadly for the Romans, there were no hookers and strippers on board a military aircraft.

The HOUND V3's that came under SDI fire began to unleash their countermeasures in the form of active radar jamming, and the deployment of noise generating decoys in order to draw the attention of the inbound muntions away from the main body of the missile. As each missile began to enter its terminal phase the nose of the weapon blew away and revealed two dozen 3 megaton warheads, each of which were deployed in staggered waves, increasing the number of nuclear weapons attacking Gens Romae by many times over.

Subsequent waves of V3's were also inbound as the MIRV's began to deploy, rocketing towards earth at nearly Mach 25...speeds that would make interception from a smaller nation such as Gens Romae near impossible. The Freekish defense budget was 36 times that of GR, meaning that there was no conceivable way that enough counter-munitions could even be produced to fend off the massive Freekish attack. In massed waves 150,000 additional older HOUND V2's and original HOUND missiles were also fired towards the enemy mainland, though some were directed to attack Romaen satellites in space, with the intention of rendering a large portion of their SDI network blind.

In Gens Romae, every sonar system in the country is going crazy. Thousands upon thousands of missiles are on their way to various points of the country. This being confirmed, before the Imperator is even made aware of it, the various SDI systems employed by the Roman, by land and sea and space, are activated, and a massive number of conventional missiles are deployed against those oncoming missiles to a ratio of at least 10 to one (Before I hear cries of NEWB, this isn't that much. 5000 missiles were sent...this means only 50,000 missiles are needed to stop it...even at a cost of a million per missile, that only comes out to like 50 billion).

The missiles meet in the air, and there are great explosions and watnot over the Mediterranean Sea. On account of the ratio involved, there are no hits scored on the part of Aquatio.

In response, Rome's own hypersonic nuclear ballistic missiles are made ready, and prepared to fire against those states which She would have the greatest chance of glassing:

Faxanavia
Alacia
The Grand World Order
Toori

Nuclear cruise missiles are aimed and fired at each major, medium, and small city of these nations at a ratio of at least 5 missiles per city. If unstopped, the chances are that these nations will be completely flattened.

Meanwhile, dozens of nuclear subs submerge hundreds of miles near Aequatio, AutoMagFreek, Vontanas, Carbandia, Amazonian beasts, Zakaroth, Errikland, and questers and fire over a thousand hypersonic nuclear missiles against every major city of each on a ratio of at least 10 to one, 20 missiles being fired at the capitals of the same.

Once they got within range, they would unload everything they had on the cruise-missiles inbound. If that was unsuccessfull, which would be unlikely, every Toori interceptor within a 100 kilometer range of each missile swarmed into them. The pilots knew that if they were unsuccessfull, many inoccents would die, and part of the beautifull islands would be lost for a long time. They would do everything in their power to complete their mission, even if it meant giving their own life to make sure the missiles didn't reach their target.

I did have a post here describing the effectiveness of ABM systems and how unlikely it would be for anyone, especially GR, to escape unscathed.

I'll be realistic here, GR, you had absolutely no chance here. You were a big fish in a puddle, and now you've got attention you're a minnow in the ocean, with several hungry sharks taking interest. However, you could have still turned this into not only a great RP, but a unique and incredible future for your nation.

Imagine, instead of cock-rockets and divine intervention, if your leader had organised a last-ditch defence, in a defiant "Death before dishonour!" kind of way. Your relatively small ABM batteries would be emptied with little effect, before zealous fighter-pilots are flying themselves head-on into the incoming missiles, knowing that for their one death they save tens of thousands of lives.

You'd have been NS's new exporter of plate glass and the cancer capital of the universe, but you could have still had a future. From the ashes of the Roman empire, there could rise a new imperial order, fuelled by it's eternal hatred for Automagfreek and Aqueatio, that would rally the broken people of GR into a salvageable state.

And maybe, one day, you could have been big enough to wage a holy war against Gholgoth that could be worth something in NS history.

Some comments on what's done.
1. No, even the very best ABM, is going to have over 90% interception. And when the ABM isn't as expensive as the arsenal wasted, 50% is more normal.
2. Faxanavia's satellite attack was newbish. Basically, don't do it again, you can't just go and drop stuff without RPing how the sats got there in the first place, and if you try to, you'll find it much harder.

Also, on the count of nuking not really being the end of the nation. I've been "glassed" - so what? I took a long NS vacation to rethink it all, started the reemerging nation (Vault 10 was one of the surviving bunkers), can't say the result isn't decent.



Rethinking and reading a lot will be the key for GR, though.
