Greetings, my fellow nations! Recent politics have got me interested in starting an RP that deals with the increasingly complex matters of the coming decade. The economic rise of China, the War on Terror, the unification of Europe and the role of Russia as the world's only reliable source of energy are all interesting topics to deal with. Therefore, you are invited to join this RP.
Tech level is PMT. You can use everything that will be used from 2010 to 2020.
I won't use complicated calculations here. Each nation will be assigned a certain number of points, and each participant is given 100 pts when joining. Each participant can choose one "nation block" (explained below) to belong to and then use his points to purchase nations from that block to RP. One may start the RP as several nations, but only from one block. As the game progresses and other nations are conquered (including the large neutral spaces of the map), one can also control nations from other blocks.
I know that my system and general design of this RP propably has a lot of stuff that isn't the way a good RP should be, but please spare me, as this is the first RP I'm ever putting up. But please do give me constructive criticism, though...
Hmmm, another short note on the points, before anyone gets me on that: Points are NOT comparable from block to block - meaning that just because Laos and Japan happen both to have 50 points, they are equally strong - but rather, can only be compared to nations within the same block.
Nations
Note: There will be "forced" alliances when the RP sets off. For example, North Korea will forcibly be allied with China. This alliance is set from the beginning and needs a conclusive IC reason to be cancelled.
And, of course, each block will have its individual strategy of how to handle economy and warfare. The US has a large financial market, but very little industry. The Islamic Foundation has no airforce or armored fighting vehicles, but rather act as a covert terrorist network. The Europeans have a medium-sized economy and medium-sized military.
Of course, these stats are subject to modification by those people RPing as the respective nations, but they may not change a nation's stats to such an extreme than wouldn't be possible in RL (for example, rebuild the US industry as a cheap labour juggernaut like the Chinese and transform its army into a global terrorist network).
I'll only give the names of the most powerful nation of each "nation block", each with a list of related nations. Please do not feel insulted if your nation is no block leader:
USA
USA - 100 pts
Great Britain - 75 pts - guess why they get +25 compared to the others? Right, because they have atomic weapons.
Thailand - 50 pts
Australia - 50 pts
Japan - 50 pts - Aurono
I am aware that the US would have several EU nations as allies as well, but since the European Union constitutes a side for itself, I did not include them into the Allies list to prevent them from becoming one global superpower.
CHINA
People's Republic of China - 100 pts
North Korea - 75 pts
Vietnam - 50 pts
Laos - 50 pts
Burma - 50 pts
EUROPEAN UNION
The EU is not available as a nation, but some member nations are.
GB is not included, since I have put that nation into the US block.
France - 50 pts - Muffleberry
Germany - 50 pts
Greece - 50 pts - Muffleberry
RUSSIA
Due to delicated matters in energy supply and other economic factors, the EU is dependant upon Russia's goodwill to ensure its economy is running smoothly, but the EU is very much opposed to Russia's internal politics. As a result, the EU and Russia will not act against each other, but will also rarely cooperate.
Russia - 100 pts
Ukraine (Retaken by pro-Russian government in summer 2008*) - 50 pts
*Keep that in mind, because it will happen in RL. Just wait and see...
ISLAMIC FOUNDATION
The Islamic Foundation is, of course, a thinly veiled play on Al-Quaeda. Again, no nation of that name is available, but several arab countries with strong support for or presence of the organization, or fundamentalist governments.
Iraq - despite 7 years of US occupation, the nation is still the foremost battleground where US forces and the Islamic Foundation face each other in direct engagement. - 50 pts
Iran - 25 pts
Syria - 25 pts
Lybia - 50 pts
I need one more nation for the Islamic Block. Does anyone know one more nation that would fit in this category?
