The Acalian Map. Examine and tell what you think.

Acalia

I want the more experienced members of the International Incidents Forum to examine the quality of my map and give me their opinions. It may be a little bit confusing in the northern area's where there are several seemingly well-placed cities being marked as "Abandoned", there is a reason behind this and will be explained when I get around to making a fact book. Also, the imperial capital, Ryrilor, also goes by an easier to spell name, Corvina. Either one works. It is labled Ryrilor on the map.

Here is the map:

I wanted it too be realistic and with that goal in mind I set about it. The only thing I was worried about was someone saying something about the number of cities and towns with only 6 million citizens.

Well hey, that'll change quickly. Besides, you never specified what is classified as a "city," "town," etc. Really, nobody will make an issue out of it unless they're just trying to be a pain.

Alright. Thats cool. I have made other maps for other nations before and I always get complaints about the rivers looking weird, or just jumping off in random directions and splitting multiple times and never getting thinner, basically just being unrealistic.

Do they look realistic on this map?
Acalia
08-12-2007, 07:48

That fast? In that case it map be wise to make the map bigger and to add more cities later on.

I'd say yes, but then again, I'm not a cartographer, I simply sell maps :p

But yes, they look realistic (to me at least).

And you shouldn't have to worry about making your map larger. You could always just say that the cities grew, or whatnot. But then again, there's nothing wrong with expansion.

Alright, thats cool. As long as they look like rivers and not random blue lines drawn on the map.

And yes, I do plan on expanding, be it through conquest or simply annexing the grey areas around my nation... I haven't decided yet.

What is the predominate religion of your country? Government type? Political ideaology?

The country as a whole is based off the Greco-Roman-Arab culture found around the mediterranean sea (as you may be able to tell by some of the names of cities/towns/bases). The predominate religion is the Acalian Patriarchal Christian Church, but Islam is a runner up for most wide spread religion in Acalia. The government type is a mix between a constitutional monarchy and an absolute monarchy in that the parliament has the freedom to decide on some things independent of the Emperor, but on most, the Emperor has the final say. Political ideaology... Still working on that. I want to say nonintervention/noninterference, but that wouldn't fit for an imperial government.

Not too bad, by NS standards pretty damn good in fact. It would be interesting if you could put in either geographic features or topography though, as terrain is often as vital to know as cities are ;)

http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs19/f/2007/305/1/a/Freethinker_Mainland___Cities_by_Freethinker1984.png < Gratuitious self plugging, but I think sets a decent example.

Having a map nonetheless is an excellent starting tool for RPs and the like, and indeed your cartography may shape your nation more than just physically in time.

Thanks for the advise. Though it will be difficult to make a geographic map on MS paint. Political maps are easy, geographic... Not so much.

I thought most people use more sophisticated programs for their maps. I used MSPaint too (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=brutlandandnordenbigmapdl2.png) for the terrain, the coastline, and the hydrology, though I cheated and added names with Paint Shop Pro 6. :p

The Emporer is willing to suspend the religion requirement in this case. Yet, Catholicism must nonetheless be legal. Islam must be illegal.

Well considering his population is 10 billion, even if only 1% of his population was in the military, that would be, um 100 million people, or 16 and 2/3 times bigger than your entire population. And thats only if he uses 1%... :P

The Commonwealth Kingdom of United Earthlings would like to inform you that a higher defense budget does not equate to a bigger dick. While, our nation doesn't even spend half of your budget-we are secure in the knowledge that this nation and it's people can defend against any foe, whether they be larger or smaller then the Commonwealth.

So, while your throwing your 146 trillion at the problem, we'll be out thinking and out producing you at well below half your budget. Furthermore, we could without much trouble easily match your 146 trillion and do so while maintaining a higher standard of living then you.

You'll be wise to remember this saying "Never underestimate your enemy".
