The Commonwealth of Rosdivan announced today that the Lord Protector, Peter Delvaney, died last night of heart failure while he slept.
Protector Delvaney was elected to the office fourteen years ago, following the Communist assassination of his predecessor, John Melkovich. He was immediately faced with the difficult, yet ultimately successful, task of quelling the Communist rebellion and shepherding the nation through the rebuilding. He was also directly responsible for the building up of the domestic Rosdivani armaments industry, which has turned into a milti-trillion dollar a year export industry.
Protector Delvany also spearheaded the peaceful expansion of the Commonwealth with the founding of the Haven and Arcturus colonies. These colonies, though the Arcturus colony has not yet been well-developed, have proven to provide bountiful resources for the Commonwealth have greatly reduced the population pressure in the Home Islands.
A life-long bachelor, Protector Delvaney had no children and was deveoted to his life's work, first in the Army, then in Parliament, and then finally as Lord Protector. He is survived by two younger siblings, James and Mary.
A state funeral will be held on this Friday, followed two weeks later by the Parliament meeting in special session to elect his successor.
