OOC: This RP is closed, you may post official statements of support or condemnation, but active is not intervention is allowed without prior approavl of Yanitaria and myself.

Espadra is a puppet of mine but for simplicity I will RP the Loyalists as needed and Yanitaria will RP the rebels.

Presidential Palace, San Luiz, Espadra

President for Life, Commander of the Armed Forces, and Protector of Espadra Hector Montoya was not an exceptionally pleasant man in the best times and tonight was certainly not the best of times. It was six days into Montoya’s highly touted “Victoria de la Operación” (Operation Victory), the President’s plan to end the civil war that had gripped Espada for nearly four years in a matter of days. Instead the offensive had faltered in most places due the poor training and morale of Montoya’s troops and the stubborn resistance of the Frente Revolucionario De la Gente (PRF – People’s Revolutionary Front) fighters who held nearly 30% of Espadra.

The offensive wasn’t completely without success, the Espadaran Army had managed to rout the elite 6th Revolutionary Battalion, the famed “Martez’s Own”, as they were a favorite unit of rebel leader Jose Martez.

Montoya hated communists with a passion, and that passion is what brought him Tolvanic aid. Mark Benes was the NDI Chief of Station in San Luiz and the senior Tolvanic official in country. He sat uncomfortably as Montoya’s rant against Martez entered its second hour. When he’d finally heard enough, he waited for pause and then spoke.

“General, I assure you that I have conveyed your displeasure to my superiors and that they have in turn assured me that steps will be taken to deal with this Martez and his Yanitarian backers. As we speak events have been set in motion to end this rebellion for good.”

Montoya brow furrowed deeply. “Mr. Benes, is your government finally prepared to do more than send guns and advisors? Or will they continue to let others bleed to stop the Red Scourge that threatens to consume us all?”

Benes couldn’t help but frown this was going to be a long night.

Cabinet Chambers, Blair House, Brayton, Tolvan

“So we are in agreement then? We will deploy a limited force to deal with this Jose Martez and restore some semblance of stability to the Caribbean since the rest of the world appears content to let it go to hell.”

President Tyler Hutchins surveyed his assorted Ministers and advisors and saw nothing but approving faces.

“Very well, General Chang will brief us on the particulars then.”

100 knots southeast of Espadra

Force E, the naval component of Operation Fury, was moving towards Espadran waters at 15 knots. The small fleet was built around the carrier Peregrine, ten amphibious assault ships, fifteen escorting warships, four support ships, and three attack subs. Packed into the amphibs were the 4,500 Marines of the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade. The Marines, supported by the ship’s weapons and the carrier’s air wing, were to be the first wave of Tolvanic troops to reach the island.

The fleet was outfitted with some of Tolvan's newest weapons the F/A-39 Enforcer multirole fighter and the new AGM-200 Hammer anti-ship missiles. If the Yanitarian fleet was foolish enough to interfere they'd get to experience Tolvan's new weapons first hand.

Yanitaria:

President Mattias Norheim talked of San Espadra in his bi-annual State of the Nation address.

"How can we simply let these oppressors enslave our comrades!? The wish to grind them beneath their boot as one would a used cigarette! And now the nation of Tolvan, indirectly aiding the harsh dictatorship has sent troops to finish the job, because their puppet could not crush the spirit of our comrades, our brothers and sisters!

"I promise this! Yanitaria will not stand by as another capitalist pig feeds off the sweat of the people! We will act!"

Naval Station Toulon, French Protectorate

Surface Group 1 and Carrier Task Force 2 set sail, accompanied by the newest ship in the fleet, the SD 42 "Nietzsche" Super Dreadnought. The line of support ships alone where an entire armada in itself. Aboard the Emden class amphibious assault ships, a total of 25,000 marines, including armour and artillery, prepared their weapons. Su-47's flew around, as the pride of the Yanitarian Navy sailed towards North America.

Miles before the ships, 3 Seawolf class submarines kept watch for enemy submersibles.

OOC: I have no intention of engaging you in naval combat. I am sort of hoping that the large amount of ships will be a deterrent, especially with my new Super Dreadnought.

You'll arrive before me, and I planned it like that (otherwise I'd have disembarked from St. Martaan, as my country now owns the French Republic), so that way I'd have time to put the final touches on my new ship. I'll like to the Nietzsche class specs once I have everything finalized.

Good hunting. Hopefully this will be a pleasant little war. D'you have a map of the island, with terrain and cities?

OOC: I hope to have a map ready shortly, but don't expect anything fancier than a paint drawing. For reference though, Espadra is located where Cuba would be in RL and has similar geography and climate, but it's smaller and has a population of about 13 million. As stated the PRF holds about 30% of the country, but it's mostly the remote, hilly areas to the northeast. Montoya still controls most of the major cities.

I'll add an IC post to this tomorrow.

D-Day, H-Hour minus 1, 30 knots off Southern Coast of Espadra

Force E taken up positions just outside Espadran waters, less than 20 minutes before the fleet executed its Alpha Strike, Benes was sent to inform President Montoya of the launch of Operation Fury and to instruct to order his forces to stay out of the way as the Tolvanic troops dealt with the rebels. Montoya had blustered about this affront to his authority and the sovereignty of Espadra but soon grew tired and retired to his quarters to sulk.

The first phase of Operation Fury was the infamous Alpha Strike, a massive barrage of cruise missiles and airstrikes normally mean to destroy an enemy’s air defenses. Since the Espadran rebels had no air defenses to speak of the attack was geared at destroying their key command centers and decimated their forces.

Exactly 127 AGM-237 Tomahawk II cruise missiles leapt from the VLS arrays of the fleet and roared into Espadran airspace. The Tomahawk II, the replacement for the legendary Tomahawk missile, flew at an altitude of just 60 meters at traveled t speeds approaching Mach 1.25. The missiles were aimed at known rebel strongholds, command bunkers, supply depots, and a series of nine safehouses known to be used by PRF commanders for meetings and lodging, maybe they’d even get lucky and kill Martez in the first volley.

TCS Sheffield, LHD-26

The Sheffield was one of three City class LHDs that were a part of Force E. Along with six Stone class LPDs they embarked the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade. The 9th MEB was a potent fighting force, built around the 12th Marine Regiment (The Devil’s Dozen) it also included the 6th Tank Battalion, 3rd Amphibous Assault Battalion, the 4th LAR Battalion, Fox Company, 15th Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 11th Artillery Regiment, and Dog Battery, 2nd Air Defense Artillery Battalion. When the various logistics and support units and the 11th Composite Marine Aviation Regiment (Expeditionary) were included the 9th MEB fielded nearly 7,000 Marines and an impressive array of weapons and vehicles.

Deep in the cavernous holds of the amphibs the Marines were preparing for battle. 1st Battalion was first to embark, mounting up in the 3rd AAB’s AAV-10 amtracks. In addition several LCACs and LCUs were being loaded with LAVs and M25 Hellhound II MBTs to support the first wave. 2nd Battalion would take the 11th Squadron’s CH-55 Mule assault helos in to establish footholds further inland. Finally, 3rd Battalion would come ashore in the second wave to push off the beachhead seized by the rest of the brigade.

Not to be outdone the Tolvanic Army was also preparing forces to deploy for operation Fury. Two Keyes class LSTs traveling with Force E carried 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Brigade (Motorised), 5th Infantry Division (Motorised). The battalions included nearly 100 TLAVs (Tolvanic Light Armoured Vehicles) and various support vehicles. The Army had also prepared to deploy the 23rd Infantry Brigade (Airmobile), 13th Infantry Division (Airmobile) to fray as well.

Finally, event he Tolvanic Air Force wanted in on the war and were preparing to send in an expeditionary wing made up of A-10s and F-35Bs once a forward air strip was secured.

It was shaping up to be quite a war.

OOC: I'll allow you to RP the results of the missile strikes before I land my troops. I'll try to post a map sometime tomorrow as well.

Northern Espadra:

Martez himself watched as the missiles fell on his command bunker.

Precious equipment had been lost, alright. Many buildings as well. However, Martez had been given a few minutes warning, as spies everywhere went nuts calling in about the missiles that passed. Surely the government would arrest a few in the morning, since they had used unsecure lines.

And no doubt, as many as 25% of all the bases probably didn't receive the warning in time.

"For the greater good, I suppose."

"Martez, the Yanitarian fleet is nearing."

40km of the coast of Northern Espadra:

The Yanitarian fleet watched the rockets on their radar. After a quick confirmation via radio, Admiral Karamazov, veteran of many conflicts, ordered a whole battery of Mk 41 cells from the YMS Nietzsche.

In the space of an hour, the retaliatory strike launched 1,920 YCM-100 Eagles (OOC:1,920 is the size of the average battery on the Nietzsche Class) struck military bases, police buildings, command bunkers, supply dumps, bridges, city halls, administrative buildings, the suspected headquarters of the intelligence service, power plants, factories, air bases, and, eventually when the commanders ran out of targets 3/4's of the way through, dams, train stations, post offices, and capitalist monuments, especially a rather ugly statue of Montoya, standing 30m tall.

The Yanitarian Fleet prepared to defend itself as it's troops got ready to land.

Outside San Luiz, Espadra, Joint Military Command Bunker

The Yanitarian attack had been quite devastating, but Montoya and most of his advisors and generals safely rode out the barrage in bunkers and civillian homes all over the nation. Benes, who was now wearing fatigues and carrying a M3 carbine, stood near the map table as Montoya fumed over the sat link at Admiral Kure for allowing his prized Monument to El Presidente be destroyed by the "fucking Yanitarian Communists".

"President-General, I apologize you we failed to anticipate the Yanitarians would target your statue in the first wave of their attacks. However, I feel we should focus on crushing the rebels before the Yanitarians manage to land their troops."

Montoya's eyes burned with rage as he launched into another tirade.

"Admiral, let the Yanitarians come, we will make them pay in blood for every inch of our land. With God as my witness and your men at my side I will slaughter that dog Martez and his Yanitarian masters."

Kure only listened as Montoya raged on.

Turning to his aide he whispered, "That man Benes has the paitence of a Saint to tolerate this ass every day."

Twenty Minutes Later

The footage was broadcast on every Espadran TV station, though only about 20% of the population could recieve it at the time, but they weren't the intended audience. The broadcast was sent to every major Yanitarian TV station and to several video sites known to be popular there.

Fifty-three men and twelve women were lined up in a large courtyard and surrounded by large Espadran flags. Each of the individuals was either a captured PRF fighter and been caught aiding the rebels in some way. Without warning four machine guns emplaced off camera opened up and cut the defenseless rebels down. When the fire stopped several men wearing civillian clothes and fatigues walked through the piles of corpses kicking each one, any that moved were then shot again. In less than two minutes every one of the rebels were dead.

A lone figure, wearing blue jeans, a camoflague jacket, sunglasses, and a baseball hat, approached the camera and spoke a single sentence.

"Turn around or you will share their fates."

With that the tape cut to black.
