The Allied States of Tazia

Geography

Tazia is a nation of a close cooperative alliance between the nations of Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. The loosely confederated states cooperate in economics and military, but conflicting interests make politic a hot bed of coals.

Economics

Tazia is mostly agriculture based nation, with serious industrialization starting to gain a sturdy foothold. The nation is in a transitional phase from third to first world nation, and as such is experiencing large economic variances, but as more and more people invest in industry and the agriculture exports remain very strong, the current powerhouse economic sector seems like it may stay in place.

Government

The small federal branch of the government consists of a council that makes all of the decisions. There is no president in the normal sense of the word, but the head councilman fulfils many of those duties.

The Tazian government is fairly pro-environment, and had created several major rainforest reserves and signed Kyoto Protocol.

Local government is what decides most of the policy in a Tazian’s daily life, usually on a county or township level. Each former country (called states now) has a State governor, and while nuances vary between them, each state has a republican system of government. Many cities have home rule and can make their own laws. While most cities have republican forms of government, some have full-control mayor systems.

The Judicial branch functions mostly on a local and state level, with a supreme court in Tazia City, in the same location as Mexico City.

Military

The Tazian military consist mostly of county run militias, with the federal military being fairly small. Each state has their own military and run their own militias, as well as commanding the county militias. Militias all have different requirements for being in, and often times, one can be in a militia and no one would know as it has little effect on daily life, because it is more or less just saying your would fight for Tazia in a time of crisis.
