RE: Orbital Weapons

Tolvan has had an active space program for thity-six years and the Tolvanic military has played a key role in those endeavours from the very beginning. From the first Tolvanic man in space in 1971 to the first Tolvanic citizen to walk on the Moon in 1979, Tolvan's visits to space have always been peaceful in nature.

However, the world is a very different place now. As more and more nations deploy satellites and orbital weapons the time of the naive policy of "space neutrality" is at an end.

To that end the Commonwealth of Tolvan officially declares its intentions to deploy a series of armed satellites into orbit. These satellites will be equipped with laser systems for use not only against hostile staellites and space craft but to supplement the Strategic Defense Network (SDN) in intercepting ICBMs. In addition Tolvan will field a new generation of ASAT missiles and begin development on a variety of anti-satellite systems, the nature of which are classified at this time. Finally, Tolvan will increase funding for the Tactical High Orbit Railgun (THOR) Project with a goal to place the first THOR station in orbit by 2020.

These programs will fall under the jurisdiction of the Joint Orbital Warfare Command (JOWD). General Brian Pace of the Tolvanic Air Force, and a veteran of three space flights, has been chosen as the first commander of JOWD.

If your nation has any questions or wishes to make its position on this issue known, do not hesitate to do so. I will attempt to accomodate all responses as best that I can.

OOC: This is still MT, I don't want any PMT or FT nations threatening to glass me for deploying measly little 2 megawatt lasers in orbit.
