I can smell the sea salt as it rises up through my nostrils. It's bitter yet inviting to my senses. With my eyes closed I can hear everything. The crashing of the waves against the hull of the longship. There are gulls off in the distance, their cries fading as we sail farther away. The gusts of wind are captured in the sail and it flaps in the wind, snapping forward then dying down, slowing our travel. It doesn't matter, I'm at home, where I belong: the sea. Salt water runs through my veins. I feel as home on water as I do on dry ground. My eyes open and I see we pulled away from the coast. The oars are reeled in and them men relax for a bit, stowing their belongings and equipment. There's an uproar of hearty laughter at the stern.

"Captain, bid farewell to yonder Oldenburg" I hear. I turn my attention behind us to see the mountains just above the cliffs, looming. The city along the mountain cliffs seems so far away now. I fear that I will never see her again. Be in her bosom in tender embrace, I shall miss it.

"Banto, where does the wind take us?" I inquire. Banto manages up to me as I stand at the bow, on boot up on the edge, holding a line.

"Southward, Thorir" Banto comes up along side me. "When do you forsee our return?"

It's an interesting question, one I fail to grasp words for an adequate reply. He looks at me, yurning for an answer.

"I cannot say dear friend" I reply, placing a hand on his shoulder. "A year perhaps. It depends on where our voyages take us. What new lands and people we discover and open relations with."

"The men have hope and optimism in their hearts that this voyage will bring great success with glory and fortune to the Hall of Oldenburg." Banto says proudly, puffing his chest outward.

"Aye, perhaps our spoils will sway the Court in Halgard that Oldenburg is indeed the dominate clan. Our sight will reach far beyond any of the other ten clans." I say with less enthusiasm. All I want to do is to traverse the open sea and observe and survey the world outside Norgardia.
