Project Atlantis

A Yanitarian Building Co. Project

Following in the wakes of Project Eden (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=542431), and the Doomsday Ark (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=542359), Yanitaria has decided to go one step further.

Even as most Yanitarians sleep, engineers are working tirelessly on their newest project, Project Atlantis. The idea is, that in the event of a doomsday disaster (NBC warfare, climate change, one of a million things tabloids force you to be afraid of), a germ of civilization, carrying enough plants to restore earth to it's previous state.

Currently, Yanitaria has come up with the following requirements that the Project must meet.

The City must be able to stand extreme pressures in the event that the sea level rises
The City must be able to withstand extreme currents, and tsunamis. (Perhaps a suspension system)
The City must have a docking port for boats, boatplanes, and a single submarine that will be at the ocean's surface. In the event of a rising ocean, the dock will be sealed shut, and the submarine will be the only contact with the surface.
The dock must be completely defensible from an air or naval attack.
In the event of a lowering ocean, the dock should be connected to the top levels of Project Atlantis via elevator. The shaft should be sealable. In the event of tides lowering, the dock will float (or be jettisoned via controlled explosion) off, and the shaft will be sealed.
The project must be defensible against submarines (note: giant anti-sub and torp net?)
The project must allow for 25,000 initially, with a pop growth of only 1/5th (by means of mandatory birth control)
The Project must contain space for adequate hydroponics to provide food, and keep certain plants alive
A cloning facility, will samples of every plant indigenous to the participating nations
A power system run on hydrogen
a small back up nuclear reactor, preferably away from the main city
Electrolysis vats, for making hydrogen and oxygen
The entire city must be pressurized for regular earth atmosphere
Must have advanced geological and meteorological sensor buoys that can be let out to the maximum extent that the sea could rise to.

Only allies and UC members will be allowed to bring citizens onto Project Atlantis. All others should improve diplomatic relations before asking.

Stoklomolvi will be willing to contribute over 15,000 tons of corundum from its mineral stockpiles to aid in the construction of these domes. Stoklomolvi itself will contribute at least two hundred thousand engineers to help research and develop these arcologies. However, Stoklomolvi requests that Yanitaria also aid Stoklomolvi in the construction of an arcology around 30,000 kilometres off the coast of Okhotsk Island.

To Our Generous Ally, Stoklomolvi:

We thank you for your help. Once Project Atlantis is finished, we will study the efficiencies, improve the design, and then we can begin making a second one for your nation, fixing any mistakes made in the original.

Sincerely,
Herb Northstorm
Secretary of Foreign Affairs

OOC: 30,000km is a looooonnnnnggggg ways away. The arcology, under RL scale, and not NS scale, would be 3/4ths of the way around the earth.

Alfegos has this idea for the city:
1) A floating city, so that the problems with wasted docking areas are not so.
2) A city therefore running on solar power as well as the hydrogen, to lessen the amount used.
3) A city that can move itself, thus being able to escape from attack.

The city would be mounted on something the size of 5 super-carriers, tied together hoizontally. The defence would be through batteries of missiles around it, or quite possibly thorugh aircraft held onboard.
Submarines would be held at bay by a hemispherical torpedo/antisub dome, to stop any submarine attacks.
The city's outer area would be armoured with 2000mm chobham/titanium matirx, with an EMP cage around the entire structure, and the entireity divided into 50 compartments, in case of holing.

Plan of ship:
Bottom decks (below waterline) - Engines, Electrolysis, storage tanks and Hydroponic farms, growing GM crops.
Middle Decks - Habitation zone
Higher Decks - Hydroponics and command centre
Top Deck - Cultivated area, with runway and area for planes to land.

Estimated cost: $200 000 000 000

To Alfegos:

We appreciate the idea, but the USSY is really looking for an under water city. You see, if there is a sudden climate change, the city will not be effected by rising and lowering oceans. And because it is under water, it would be fully NBC proof. Thus we would save money on armour. Finally, an under water city needs far less protection against missiles.

However, your plan did give us some ideas. For instance, the surface dock will now be entirely covered in solar panels. That way, hydrogen (a byproduct of the electrolysis that produces the oxygen) will be needed less, and there is less of a chance of need to push the reactor to it's limits.

Of course, a space will be reserved for Alfegosians in the habitation area of Project Atlantis.

Sincerely,
The Project Atlantis Development Team

Imperial Communiqué

The Pictish Imperium will of course contribute to this noble venture. As we speak, the Imperial Library of biological materials is en-route. Further-more, the project is open to any and all Imperial citizens who wish to undergo Parliamentary screening processes, thusly narrowed down applications to two-hundred volunteers. They will be transported to the finished city in event of extreme alert status.

Alfegos then will be willing to provide you witht he following parts to your Project:
1) Hydroponics farms, with supplies of non-sterile GM crops, with a "very fast" growth rate and good mineral etc. contents.
2) Solar Panels, with the latest technology to allow for the highest efficiency of solar power.
3) Waste processing units, for the recyling of waste, allowing nutrients to be taken from rubbish and put back into the food system, as well as reducing dependance on the outside world.
4) Seawater plants - for electolysis of water, and the extraction of trace nutrients for use in Hydroponics and in the creation of materials for repair.
5) "Genome Repositry" - If worst comes to worst, a repositry will be created, both electronic, hard and specimen-wise, containing the details either in code or as a sample, of 20 000 species, so that life can be restarted using genetic techniques in a destroyed world.

Indeed. The Materials will be stored in a sterile storage facility operated by the Ministry of Science.
