Overview:
In the long time before the slave rebellions and the invasions from the north took place, the High Elves of the southeast were long one of the great elven powers of the lands as they took part an active part in enslaving the beast peoples and the races of men. Enslaving the beast peoples and human peoples the elves were able to begin the construction of great cities and the building of great fortresses that still dot the southeast and have allowed the elves to keep control of the slave peoples.
For many generations elves did the process continue until a great event eight hundred years ago, in which a great blood sacrifice took away the great magical advantages that elves had long held over men and in the short strech of thirty years the old elven powers in the west fall one by one as the slaves through off their shackles and drove away or slew their former elven masters. Despite the weakening of their control over the slaves the elves of the east were able to subdue the rebellions, because of the greater populations of elves in the east. For twenty years a stalemate between the newly founded kingdoms of men, and beasts, in the west formed and the elven held eastern lands strengthened their control.
Yet, during the twenty years of reconsolidation came a renewed threat from the north, which had not been in over four hundred years. Attacking mainly in the east a number of the remaining elven kingdoms were subdued and the northerners settled in the northeast of the continent, from where they consolidated themselves and slowly expanded in the relatively hospitable lands there. At the same time another group of northern men set up a fairly powerful nation in on the opposite end of the continent.
Despite the invasions from the north and the great slave rebellions the High Elves managed to preserve the ancient ways, customs, culture, and traditions of the elves the fullest of any other nation on the continent and unlike the other elven lands they still keep huge numbers of slaves and do not mix at all with non-elves. Due to the many events that have occured within more recent years High Elves have gained a general disdain for any elf who mixes freely with non-elves and will treat that elf little better then a non-elf.
High Elf:
The High Elves are considered to be the longest live of all elves as they posses life spans ranging between 1000-1200 years. They posses a general immunity to most common diseases and are able to resist poison better then most other races due to evolving immunities due to the harsh environment of the southern regions of their Empire, where they have dwelled for generations. High Elves are considered beautiful, even by elven terms, and they posses light eye colors, fair hair, and light elven skin, and these traits are genrally the rule for their appearance.The average High Elf male height is between 6’2”-6’4”, for females it is between 5’8”-5’11”.

By law elves and dwarves cannot be enslaved, which explains them not being represented in the slave populace.
In reggards to to the slaves, they are treated poorly and work like animals all day for their lords, though treatment varies depending on the slave's position. It is to the harsh treatment that most recieve that many have tried to escape, but due to large amounts of slave hunters present on the frontiers of the Empire and that soldiers are actively engage in slaves patrols, that to to escape to lands where slavery is prohbitied is genrally low for any slave.
Basically though the entire economic system of the Empire is currently based on the labor of slaves and if the slaves were freed there would be a drastic change in the economy of the Empire.
The elves themselves are divided between the High Elven elite who rule over the vast estates, where thousands of slave works to produce cash crops to sell aboard and in the cities and food to sell to the cities. And then there is the the independent Elven farmer, and his family, who make a a majority of the populace and often grow often food to sustain themselves and their families.
To the other side of the spectrum are the urban dwellers, many of the elves live in vast urban centers, where they are waited on by countless slaves, or live their lives as merchants or craftsmen, who are highly skilled after literally centuries of practice. It is in these urban centers that a lion's share of all trade, of any type occurs.
Economy:
Due to sheer age of their nation the High Elven Empire has evolved a intricate economy that is capable of supplying all the goods that are needed to preserve their massive empire. Be it the grain that is grown on a small family farm in the hills or the smith in the city making Elven steel blades of high quality that are to be supplied to the army. Or it be the slave growing rice in the marshes of the south or the miner prospecting a potential silver deposit in the northern mountains.
Yet, due its age the Empire has developed an economy largely dependent on exporting arms, textiles, tobacco, and foodstuffs. In turn importing luxury items, precious metals, precious stones, jewelry, and a vast assortment of other things.
