Hyperion is myth. A legend reaching back past the days of elven tyranny and control. An ancient land of men hidden behind thick jungle and mountains. The only dominion that was free throughout the entire history of the world, the only bastion of hope against total elven domination. In the present days, it still lays hidden. It's armies clad in ornate gold move quietly and secretly through their lands, erasing everything of anyone that enters their sacred territory. Stalking the outer territories like wraiths, they continue their hidden battles with the elves, and by the Gods will one day be victorious.
Physical Characteristics
A race of men, all with caucasian facial characteristics, but with a naturally tanned complexion. The men are usually between 5'11 and 6'3 in height, and althletic in build. Females are anywhere from 5'4 to 5'11, thin and curvy. Male life expectancy is around 72, female 75.
Government
The High King has supreme executive control of the country, whereas an assembly is held bi-weekly that all citizens can take part in. This assembly, known as the People's Council, is the legislative body of the kingdom. The temple has conciderable influence in the people's lives, as they are the prophets for the old Gods, those who fight the false elven dieties in the heavens.
Society
Hyperion society is one based around battle and tradition. When a boy becomes a man(his 16th birthday,) he has the choice of two career paths. He can become a holy warrior, or he can become a tradesman, those who do everything around the kingdom from building to mining to farming. Both roles are equally honorable, as one cannot exist without the other. The woman take on a more traditional role, beginning on their 15th birthday. When this day dawns, they are officially women, and begin to wear a light blue ribbom around their necks, signifying that they are available for marriage. When this is established, they are courted by many suitors each, and once married have the duties of keeping up the household. Cooking, cleaning, and raising the many children. Temple is attended daily, and nothing major is done without consulting the oracle, or at the very least the high priests.
Population Centers
The main city of Theia is in the center of a large mountain valley. The high walls of the city overlook the huge farmlands that fill the rest of the valley. The singular mountain pass is covered in dense jungle, shading from view the entire valley and keeping the city safe and hidden. This jungle extends down to the coast, where the only other city, Tethys, lays equally hidden. This city consists of many tree-houses perched high in the trees, and connected by wooden rope bridges. The only sign of life on the ground in that area is the staircase running down to the small wharf, where fishing boats are tied to the pier. Many small outposts dot the jungle, guarded by the elite soldiers of the kingdom, ensuring the sovereignty of the holy lands.
Trade
Trade is non-existant between Hyperion and other places, however the two cities of the kingdom often exchange meat and produce for seafood and lumber.
Technology
Education is the domain of the priests, and every citizen in the kingdom is instructed in mathematics, history, biology and basic metallurgy. Afterwhich it is only the new priests that continue learning every subject, while tradesman continue their education as apprentices. Science is a function that the priests partake in, though it is limited to biology and the study of nature. Ancient weapons and armor, increased in strength and power by magic, are still the dominant items in the military.
Religion
Hyperion worships the Old Gods of man, those that were dominant in the days before the bastardisation by the elves. These beings consist of Order, Insanity, Day and Night.
Population
Theia- 98 500 adults
Tethys- 56 700 adults
Military
Many Hyperion men join the armies, becoming holy warriors. They are given extensive training and education in tactics, which is furthered by great experience as they are constantly raiding outlying lands, and slaughtering intruders into Hyperion. Armed with golden plate armor that covers the entire body head to toe, magical properties make them durable, light and flexible. A round shield and a 7 foot spear are their tools of combat, accompagnied by a 3 foot sword. All warriors are trained in the arcane talents, giving them the ability to launch fireballs, and send forth bolts of lightning from their fingers.
