The heavens were suddenly brightened by a colossal explosion; a bright ball of fire that temporarily blinded any who looked upon it, and disappated almost as quickly as it had appeared. So large was the explosion that, years later, it would be visible on distant planets.
One planet was somewhat closer, however. It was uninhabited, but not for much longer. A lone capsule streaked away from the point of the explosion and dived recklessly into the atmosphere, illuminating as it was engulfed with fire. Though it appeared to be some manner of escape pod, it was in actuality a Strogg flier, which had been operating just far enough away from its mothership to be sent hurtling away instead of destroyed. Unfortunately, its survival was by no means guaranteed, as the explosion had cost the craft the use of its wings and most of its primary systems.
Unpeterbed, the small object sped down through the atmosphere, leaving a trail of smoke in its wake, and crashed down into the canopy of the jungle in a deafening thud that sent birds for miles around squarking into the air.
