The Alfegos Army (Ref. Thread)

Alfegos

Introduction
The army, as it is now, was officially founded in 1816 to seize Alfegos foreign interests. With the development of internal combustuion engines and vehicles, it soon began to base a large part of it as "mechanised".

After fighting many wars, none though as bloody as the civil wars, the army is now an experienced force of near 1 million men, backed by another million in logistics, supplies and buerocracy.

Comments anyone?

I was thinking I need to reorganise my army and um increase the size. I've calculate the percentage against the population and its fairly low.

OOC: Here's some thoughts:

Do your divisions incoporate units such as artillery, air defense, and combat engineers or they only found in specialized divisions?

My military is designed based on the battle group system employed by the UK, Canada, Australia, and to a lesser extent the US. This allows me to form battalion and brigade size units that utilize combined arms fully. If you want a more in a depth break down check the link in my sig.

Does you army have its own aviation units or are all aircraft organized under the Air Force?

Your divisions, especially your armour and artillery, have either too few men for the numbers of vehicles/guns or too many vehicles/guns for the number of men. You need to either up the manpower or lower the vehicle/gun number. For example your armoured divisions average about 3.5 men per vehicle, while that's in line with crew numbers tanks typically require 5 or 6 support personnel for every crewman. Somebody has to fix them and drive the trucks that bring them fuel and ammo. Also, most armoured divisions include at least a small amount of mechanized infantry since tanks can't take or hold ground very well. I recommend adding a mech brigade to each division and a tank brigade to each mech division.

Overall not a bad start though, if you have any other questions let me know and I'll gladly give you my opinions.

The divisions employ AA support on a Company-level system (being one AA support vehicle per 120 men). However, the weapons team in each squad can be issued with Stingers, which makes for even more adequate air defence.

Combat engineer support is provided with one man per section trained in combat engineer, with a specialist engineering division for when it is needed.

Artillery is found in seperate divisions, save for squads with mortars, or the fast attack section with the possibility of mortar-equipped FAVs.

---------------------------------------

Logistics etc. wise, I have added the support divisions on: they are seperate to thge main army, but work alongside them. Thus, you have nearing 8 people per vehicle in the mech. infantry, including fuelling, ammunition, communications et.c

-----------------------------------------

Aviation is provided by the Alfegos Air Force

-----------------------------------------

Much as I would like to view your army structure, it is currently unavailable, as NSWiki is down.

I use a brigade based system with each brigade being pretty much independent. For example every Tolvanic brigade includes three line battalions, an artillery battalion, an air defense battalion, a combat engneer battalion, a support battalion, and various other units like MPs, signals, electonic warfare, CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) and HQ units.

...Interesting. I don't see how I can integrate that into the current scheme of things, but sounds good. I'll see what I can do.

I've never seen a colonel command a division before. And corperal is spelt 'corporal'

Also, if I may, I'd have said you're having too few officers for a battalion and regiment. It'd be something like a captain for each company, then a major or an extra captain to act as an executive officer, with a lieutenant colonel or a colonel to act as the CO.

But then for some idiot reason my nation's army goes of the British Army of the Napoleonic era. I haven't a clue what the current organisation is.

From my own army-thingy:

-Scutatoi, Trapezitae and Sagittarii units

Section – ten men, commanded by a corporal, assisted by a lance corporal. A section will also break down into two fireteams ("Charlie" and "Delta", one commanded by the corporal, the other by the lance-corporal
Platoon – thirty soldiers (three squads), commanded by a lieutenant or an ensign
Company – seventy soldiers (two sections, one support squad), commanded by a captain
Battalion – seven hundred soldiers (ten companies), commanded by a lieutenant colonel and assisted my two majors.

-Larger units
Brigade – eight battalions, commanded by a brigadier.
Division – three brigades, commanded by a major general or higher
Corps – three divisions, commanded by a lieutenant general or higher
Army - three corps, commanded by a general
Army Group - three armies, commanded by a domestic (read field marshal)

Alfegos has fewer officers than most armies, as it attempts to try and cut down on the buerocracy of things.

But yes, I will heed you notes, and add some more 2 ICs.
