1) Feeding your nation

"Ultra-gro" GM crops - $6000 per tonne
By splicing many well known crops with genes taken from bamboo, cereal plants have been made now that will grow in under 1 week to full maturity, then with altered hormonal genes will fruit and go to seed within another two weeks. The end result is a crop that will quickly provide food for a starving nation. Maize, Wheat, Barley, Rye, Rice and Oats are currently available for export.
(Warning: Will quickly remove soil of nutrients, and is altered to grow sterile)

"Invunerable" GM crops - $8000 per tonne
Using hundreds of sourced genes from many different species, the resulting crop is invunerable to practically all current crop pathogens, many pesticides, herbicides and has limited protection against radiation. Comes in any crop you specifiy.
(Warning: Provided sterile)

"Scorcher" GM Crops - $5000 per tonne
Any crop you want, modified to be able to survive the most extremes of temperature. For climates where crops don't grow easily, and you can't afford land modification.
(Warning: Provided Sterile)

Hydroponics Plants - $50 000 per 1 hectare unit
Artifical sunlight and water pumped full of nutrients allow even an ordinary crop to grow quicker, lusher and in a much denser concentration, allowing space, water and fertiliser to be saved. Comes in hectare packs consisting of 5 20x100 metre buildings, each with 2 floors for growing crops and powered by the main grid.

1 week food packs - $20 per head
Contains all vital nutrients and chemicals needed to keep a hard-working body going for a week. Just add water.

Ultra-deep aquifer tap - $1100
Uses a massive shaft, along with a mechanical raising system and storage cistern, to provide water even during the dry season. Comes with cooling system and filtration of chemicals such as arsenic.

Covered reservoir - $8 per cubic metre

OOC: There's a problem with your "Ultra-deep aquifer tap", which is this; such an aquifer is composed of so-called "fossil water", which has been sitting under the ground for thousands of years or longer. It will be highly contaminated with minerals, and in some cases heated by geothermal activity so it emerges from the ground at temperatures above boiling. These problems have been encountered IRL in North African aquifers as the desert farms of Egypt and other nations delve deeper to sustain their heavy water use.

If you're storing water for the dry season (implying that there's a wet season), reservoirs are a better bet. If you're irrigating land, like the Sahara, which hasn't seen regular rainfall for many thousands of years, the aquifer is your best bet (unless you want to raise the ire of your neighbours in wetter countries by re-routing all their rivers through your deserts) but you'll need some kind of filtration system in addition to the pumps and storage tanks, and it'll probably cost about as much as a city's water treatment plant.

Also, the presence of such an aquifer is dictated by historical climate and local geology; they may not be present in all regions.

Can the "Calm Down" weather package be used to wear down a hurricane or other tropical cyclone while it is still at sea, and can it stop bizzards?
Alfegos
07-11-2007, 20:58
The "Calm Down" package has been proven to have effect against tropical storms, yet may not completely stop the storm while over the sea while they are picking up moisture.
However, it is worth a try, as the price is the same for all sizes of storms, from supercell to hurricane.

Against a blizzard, we do not reccomend as it may cause the blizzard to increase in strength by providing many more snow particles.
