"There comes a time in the life of every monarch,
No matter how loved, no matter how peaceful,
When He must forsake the ways of the olive branch,
In order to ensure it's very future.
There must be war in order to have peace." - Tremarendakian Fable

Throne Room of King Rudo I
Tremarendakian Royal Palace
Dwelmant ah Celestin, Tremarendakia
1200 hours

The ruling line of Tremarendakia, the line of Rudo the First, was young and inexperienced in the matters of the world. It's founding member still sat atop his throne, his posterity growing ever more restless as he passed average years into excessive old age. Nearly a century had passed since the man who gave rebirth to a nation was born, and yet the energetic youth of his eye still shone bright on almost all occasions.

It was a dire time indeed that made these youthful eyes show their age.

The world was a dangerous place, full of murderers, rapists and genocidal maniacs. In Tremarendakia, the trinity of Commons, Lords, and Kings helped to maintain a certain balance of lawfulness that was seen by the citizens as a point of immense public pride, when compared to the world in which it was a bastion of good in a sea of evil. Unfortunately for the Tremarendakians, the dams which held back this torrent of evil were growing ever closer to the breaking point, and the effects of it showed increasingly upon the worried face of King Rudo I.

In his throne room, an elaborately decorated hall with vaulted ceilings and splashed with a myriad of ancient pieces of gold and silver, Rudo prepared to address his populous, one so blissfully unawares to the world around them and it's infinite evils. He had already spoken to Parliament regarding the matters before them now, and following their immense shock, had received total support for his wishes. This was the only shred of good news in sight for the embattled monarch, whose mind waged constant wars within it's barriers as the throne room's enormous doors swung open, admitting the camera crew from the national news service. It occurred to Rudo, as these men positioned their camera and adjusted the lighting of the room in silence, that these men too knew nothing of what he was about to unveil. Their minds must be just as cluttered with worrisome thoughts of vague topics as his was.

Waiting patiently for the camera crew to complete it's maintenance duties, Rudo's mind darted over his information once more quickly, summarizing the horrors he was about to unveil to the four hundred million people of his as yet peaceful nation. Everything was there, stored in one of the many halls of his legendarily retentive mind. A signal from the camera man brought his focus back to the present in time to recognize the silent countdown before his eyes, and as a red light flickered to life atop the camera, he knew that the entirety of Tremarendakia was watching his every move now, eager for their explanation as to why their midday soap operas and sports games had been interrupted.

"Good evening, my fellow Tremarendakians.

"I apologize for the interruption of your daily routine, but I believe that it is time that I divulge a bit of knowledge that I have been keeping from you for some time now.

"For nearly thirty years now, I have served as your king, your loyal servant and leader of this nation in times of struggle. I have established relations with foreign nations of power and repute, and declared Tremarendakia as a power upon the international stage. I have arranged marriage alliances and organized the military, and some hold my victories in office as perfect, free of flaws. These people are most horribly wrong, for you see, I have withheld from you the truth to which you were entitled.

"For several months, I have suppressed and banned reporting upon news of what is perhaps the most atrocious act in human history. The nation of Automagfreek, led by Azrael the Advocate, unleashed a nuclear holocaust unrivaled in the history of the world upon the nation of British Londinium. The Londinians, warmongers, fools, and arrogant though they were, deserved none of the billions of casualties they received at the hands of this merciless onslaught, not to mention the future ramifications of such an attack, which will poison the land and population for generations.

"I kept this news quiet in the Constitutional Monarchy, fearing the moral and human effects it would unleash upon my people. Now though, I am stirred to action by the selfless actions of a foreign leader who is brave enough to stand for justice in the world against the nation of Automagfreek.

"Telros, a just and noble nation, is marching to war with the Freeks, to make a statement for all that is right in this world, and to show that we other nations will not sit idly by as the Freekish war machine chooses victim after infinite victim. While I regret my actions in hiding these atrocities from you dearly, I ask you to forgive me now for my folly and to move forward with me in declaring our full support for the Telrosian crusade against injustice by the Freekish hordes!

"I have consulted Parliament on this matter, and while I realize that we may not stand against the infinite hordes of Freekish aggression militarily, we may support the Telrosian effort to do so with the very essence of our nation. And so, today, in front of the world, I pledge the full industrial might of Tremarendakia to the Telrosian cause, I pledge all surpluses not absolutely necessary to the continued survival of Tremarendakia to Telros' war effort, and I place the consequences of such actions upon the shoulders of myself and my posterity.

"I thank you once more for your attention, and I thank you for your continued patriotism in the face of this immense adversity which the world faces today."

The red light flickered out, and Rudo sighed. The camera crew stood before him, mouths slightly open in a half stupor. It could only be imagined that four hundred million other faces were locked in exactly the same state then.

Wait, who's declaring war on us? Bonesplitter was quite puzzled as he sifted through the report in his hand, because he had never heard of the nation of Tremarendakia before. Not sure, some backwater speck of a nation who's looking for an opportunity to boost its reputation in the international community I'd reckon. Chirped one of the Colonels in the room, who punched away at the keyboard in front of him as he monitored incoming situation reports.

Well, I shouldn't have to say this, but I'll say it anyways. I want whatever intel we have on their military immediately, as well as the status of the most available first strike elements within our force roster. We all know that Azrael isn't going to tolerate this, so we should be prepared to retalliate appropriately. He glanced over his shoulders several times as if trying to locate something. Speaking of intel, what do we have on them?

There was a brief pause as several intelligence technicians searched their computers for any available files, but there was none. Nothing at then moment sir, we're compiling data as we speak and wil have it to you ASAP.

Meanwhile, Task Force Zander had been alerted of the pending military strikes on Tremarendakia, and the Warchief was informed that he would need to move his ships out of Crimmond waters and set a course for their soon to be target. While Brinks would not be joining him, Zander himself boasted a sizable force that by itself could maintain a lengthy campaign. In the wake of the Doomani war his ships were taken into port and repaired from damaged sustained during the intense naval combat that saw his ships serve as a shield so that Lord Dreadfire could commence his ground assault on Ephesium. As a result Zander's ground forces did not see any action, and only air and sea assets were the only ones who saw combat, but alas the Doomani war was now a closed chapter in Freekish hisory.

Several thousand ships and hoards of Sentinels and Death Dealers prepared themselves for the battles to come, for they had been deprived proper action in the last war. The upside of their inaction was that they were extremely well rested and would be able to smash into whatever enemy resistance they encountered. Their boredom would soon come to an end.

Now, with Telros and Tremarendakia baying for Freekish blood, the tides of war would rise once again. Azrael was informed later that afternoon that intelligence was beginning to trickle in, and that Zander's fleet was preparing to initiate both a blockade and a strike against their new foe. However, with Telrosian ships encroaching on Freekish territorial waters, he was more concerned about driving the heathens from AMF proper than striking afar. That job was one best left to his inferiors.

Tremarendakian Royal Seaport
Dwelmant ah Naerum, Tremarendakia
0800 hours

Times in Tremarendakia had taken a startlingly sharp turn for the worse since reports had been received, not unexpected, that Freekish vessels had set way out of The Crimm, in all ways possible excreting an aura of war. With this news, Rudo I ah Tremarendakia had begun the preparations of Tremarendakia for a foreign invasion, the first to take place on Tremarendakian soil in history. Men prepared their countryside for war at the behest of Tremarendakian Army commanders, digging trenches, erecting bunkers and an assortment of varying defensible positions, as the women prepared their homes, stocking away food in anticipation of the inevitable food rationing and assuaging family nerves as best they possibly could.

Even the Royal Family was being pressed into extreme situations. After reaching it's third generation, the line of Rudo I ah Tremarendakia was growing to be fairly extended, and this accounted for a fierce congestion at the docks of the Royal Seaport in Dwelmant ah Naerum when the ever-stalking paparazzi were added to the equation.

Their visit was one fraught with emotions. War being the monstrosity that it was, the Royal Family would be first in line for Freekish agression. Unable to bear the thought of his three year old grand children being murdered in cold blood by the brutal Freeks, Rudo had demanded that those who would leave Tremarendakia go immediately.

Irene, Rudo II's wife, and her children Thomas and Victoria, awaited a ship to bear them to her homeland and father's protection in Bhreatain Mhor, where Rudo I had been assured that his family would be most cared for. Rudo II himself had decided to stay by his father and face the Freeks as Prince of Tremarendakia. The sentiment alone instilled a tremendous sense of pride in the King.

Anna, and her husband James II of Roseberg, awaited their ship to bear them away. Should something happen to Rudo and his son, James had sworn to lead Tremarendakia in absent as Regent until Thomas grew to an age where he could rightfully take back his kingdom.

Also staying with the king were his son Nadolm and daughter Nadine, and their significant others, Christina Koppola of Aqua Anu and Anthony of 4th District. This family loyalty was almost the only thing that brought joy to Rudo's heart in these desperate times, and it pained him to see those leaving saying their farewells to those who had chosen to remain, perhaps for their final time.

As he watched mournfully while his son held a bawling Irene, Rudo was surprised by a tap on his shoulder. Turning quickly to reprimand the reporter with the audacity to physically interfere with this important moment, he was taken aback to see his personal adviser standing before him, horn rimmed glasses flashing at the angry look on the Monarch's face.

"I'm sorry to disturb you, your Majesty," she began, slender figure contorting slightly as an eager photographer jostled for better positioning. He was quickly cowed by a surprisingly fierce glare from her, and she carried on. "But the 1st Infantry reports that their defensive preparations for the city are almost complete. If the Freeks attack, we'll be as ready as we're going to be."

Rudo thought to Lieutenant General Mark Taylor, commander of the 1st Infantry Division and tasked with Dwelmant ah Naerum's defense, along with the surrounding area. Taylor was as good a general as Rudo had ever seen, and if he felt the city ready, Rudo had the utmost confidence in his judgment. He knew that around the country, similar commanders were preparing the other cities as well, and he hoped that the Freeks would encounter more resistance than they had expected.

Disrupting his thoughts, a particularly loud wail emerged from Irene as the final boarding call for the departing ships sounded and Rudo II escorted them all aboard.

With a wave of the hand and a parting glance over his shoulder as his driver closed his car door, Rudo watched his family's future set sail for foreign shores.

*********

For days Zander's fleet steamed towards Tremarendakia with the intention of punishing them for openly declaring themselves to be hostile to the Freekish Empire and for supporting Telros in their assault upon Automagfreek itself. Having arrived just outside hostile waters around midnight, Zander ordered that his ships begin spreading themselves wide in preparation for a coastal siege. Submarines began slipping away from the main body of the aramda almost immediately in order to establish a wide perimeter and detect any underwater threat before it could threaten the surface ships. Freekish Stratosfighter II's and Sea Scorpions littered the skies at varrying altitudes to scan for airborne threats with the assistance on AWACS and satellite sensors that streamed data down to all online units below.

Intelligence on Tremarendakia had been compiled by a team of several dozen Freekish specialists who meticulously documented all potential military and strategic assets that would have to be neutralized in the opening hours of the war, and almost as soon as the final report was issued the bombardment started. Since Zander's ships were still plenty far away from the coast, the first barrage came in the form of 'Porcupine' ICCM's, which would travel through the upper atmosphere and come crashing down at ungodly speed and rain down kinetic destruction to anything in its path. The heavy battleships within the taskforce were charged with delivering the first blow, while aircraft and missile frigates would follow up with subsequent vollies over time as the fleet neared the coast.

However for the moment Zander was content to enforce his blockade on Tremarendakia and attack them from afar. Any civilian shipping heading into or out of the enforcement zone would either be captured or turned away depending on the circumstance, while civilian aircraft would be shot down without warning in order to prevent any sort of situation. Satellites hovered overheard in the heavens and looked down upon the land that would soon feel the wrath of the Freekish Empire, watching for any large collections of military units in the form of infantry or armor.

Meanwhile the Sentinels and Freekish soldiers began preparing for the campaign to come, gathering their equipment and receiving up to date briefings from their commanders and intelligence officers. Special forces would be deployed alongside the main body of infantry, who would then scout ahead and direct Freekish artillery and air strikes against forward targets before they could present a credible threat to ground operations. The briefings were sporadically drowned out by the sounds of cruise missiles soaring forth from their launch tubes as frigates, submarines, battleships, and heavy cruisers began their guided missiles launches in unision with their ICCM's. The battleplan was unfolding like clockwork, with each hour ushering in a new and terrifying escalation in strikes as the fight against Tremarendakia kicked off.

However Zander remained vigilant and ever ready for an enemy retalliatory stike, though he was unsure of the full military capability of his foe. But on what scale the inevitable counter-strike would be, one thing was certain: he would fight the Tremarendakian military as if they were the best in the world, and he would not make the mistake in underestimating them.
