The Truth Act

South Lizasauria

IC:

4:08 PM today the South Lizasaurian chancellor and the council (sort of like the legislative branch) are deciding on whether or not to pass the Truth Act in an attempt to fight false propaganda and political lying. This act states that what one says better coincide with the dictionary definition or else it will be considered propaganda and thus treason.

The chancellor is still deciding on whether or not to accept this proposal or veto it.

(Meanwhile on some international political website)

The website basically summarized the events that transpired and had a poll set up so that people would know what the majority of the people on that website thought about the matter and a section where you can e-mail your opinion to the website manager and request that it be posted. (kind of like in CS monitor)

OOC: You can either post as citezens in your nation stating their opinion or governments condoning or condemning this act. The poll is just there so I will know how popular this act would be so I may RP more realistically.

The Armed republic of Falschjager must ask does this apply to the nations governments or the citizens. Banning the ability for our government to keep its people in order through fallacy is not in the nations best interest. Our populace have no need to know what is going on unless we decided they should. But on the other hand using such an act to prevent political uprising would be most effeicent.

The Acme Corporation is opening negotiations with all current manufacturers of dictionaries within the nation of South Lizasauria, including some very generous buyout packages.

Coincidentally, Mr. Chairman, current chairman of the board of directors of the Acme Corporation, recently donated several million dollars to the primary opposition party of South Lizasauria, and has also said in unofficial memos that the buyout must go on "for great lulz". Mr. Chairman was unavailable for comment.

The opposition party argues that legilstated literalism will destroy the poetry and eloquence that has been for a long time a valued part of our culture and have urged the elite citezens they know to vote against this idiotic act.

Those for it argue that it'll get annoying cultists, protesters and fanatics in general either on death row or behind bars.

While the truth is a wonderful thing never underestimate the power of a little propaganda tweak.

We find this to be a a tragic step backward in the realm of Free Speech, and this law should be decried by all nations and peoples everywhere. If the opposition is blatantly stupid, killing them is not a good idea. Just let them speak and show the public exactly how stupid they are. Then, they can just rattle on all they like without really harming anybody.
