International News
Today, Citizen Herb Northstorm, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, put out a request to all nations. Yanitaria is looking to buy an island capable of supporting 30,000,000 people. While the island does not need to be capable of supporting crops, the island would need to have suitable soil for a possible underground facility of indeterminate size. While the government refused to comment of the facility, what they did say was this.
The island must be capable of supporting 30,000,000 civilians in cities spread out wide. It must have at least a few areas where deep water ports can be built, but at least one area with a cliff on the coast near deep water is preferred. The USSY would also like a heavily forested island, with moderate to tundra like climates. A flat island would be preferred, with few rivers. A spars population with only a few minor towns ranging in size from 1,000 to 10,000 is preferred.
The USSY is willing to pay up $100,000,000,000 USD for the island. Any countries wishing to put an island up to be considered must put up a diagram of the Island, with a Kilometer scale, and the following information.
Name of Island (the USSY retains the right to change the name):
Current Owner:
Existing Population (with ethnic and linguistic demographics):
Climate:
Special Wildlife:
Existing Industry:
Existing Transport System:
Level of Development (schools, hospitals, etc.):
Asking Price:
Diagram:
The aforementioned variables will be taken into consideration, and the most suitable spot will be chosen.
OOC: Yanitaria you have a TG headed your way.
Other countries are not willing to shrink so you can grow.

For the right price I am sure there is someone out there.
OOC: And if not then I suppose I'll just have to slap a map together.
why should a nation as small as yours need more territory? Larger, most would understand, but such a nation as yours, absoultely not. We would be suprised if you were able to come up with 100,000,000,000 USD. Zoingo feels that no one in the entire international community should, much less us, give up an inch of their lands, especialy not of any of our overseas colonies. Santo Lomar, Martaniqua, Pascan de Norte, or New Providence will remain in our hands. If you want territory, take it by force

We of Roseberg wholeheartedly second this statement. Colonization is always an option, and can even bring an immense profit to you well beyond that which is gained purchasing any previously owned real estate.
Roseberg has numerous offshore islands, and efforts by you or anybody else to..."obtain" them will be resisted by Roseberg's military establishment.

OOC:Well, I originally planned my nation to be the size of Wyoming, but now it's pushing a population of 2/3rds that of all the United States.
And as for the ability to raise that much money, it is very possible. Your mindset is still stuck in countries that tax only 20-25%, while my country taxes something like 80%.
Furthermore, government waste is as 43.6 billion dollars. So instead of buying diamond toilet seats and gold leaf toilet paper, I could take out a loan with a New Brittonian bank, where all government funds are stored, for the amount, and pay it back over three NS years.
So, I can afford, it, I do need it. As for your final thought, if a nation wishes to sell us land (which amounts to making up an island and a half assed map), then that is their business. We will not force someone to hand over land, as violence is not the proper course of action. We will leave land theft to the barbarians
For the right price I am sure there is someone out there.

Our nation certainly would not.

We hope you consider this, as this island is rich in coal, oil, iron ores, and gold. However, the climate is too southern for our tastes.

Harsh words for a country 1/7th my size.
Again, violence should be left as a last resort. We are much more willing to pay for the land than to steal it and turn off a potential ally and trading partner.

Have you by any chance heard a story about these guys called David and Goliath? How about the Winter War, in which the Soviets invaded Finland to grab extra land shortly before WWII?
IC:
We understand perfectly what you are saying. Even so, we believe that it is not possible to be too cautious in matters pertaining to national security.

Indeed, but if we were truely desperate, we would first build upwards completely. And once that is done, Tanaara has generously offered 2 O'Neil Cylinders for space colonization, that we may choose to purchase at a later date (due to a large "awesome" factor. The Ministry of Awesomeness totally approves). Furthermore, it seems that Stoklomolvi has ventured a bid.

OOC: Northstorm is the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Ha, reminds me of all the times I misspelled Stoklomolvi. I eventually set Mozilla to recognize it as a real word.
IC:
The USSY notes the price, and sees that the island is resource rich. Although it is not the Island we are currently searching for, we would like to buy it anyways due to it's resources.
The money will be wired to your account immediately, but all other nations should note that the search continues.
Edit: Btw, how big is the island?

OOC: The Finland thing made me smile. Also, when was the last time Russia won a war?
I imagine that one could do as Switzerland did, rig everything to explode and tell the larger power "LOOK MAN! COME NEAR ME AND I BLOW THE CRAP OUT EVERYTHING!"
It stopped Germany from invading.
Or it could end up like the US invasion of Cuba during the Spanish American war.

OOC:
Russia did win that one, but only through plain numerical superiority.
I often look to Switzerland as well. Hitler's boast that he would become the Butcher of the Swiss was never realized due to the Swiss Militita's mobilizing in full force and rigging all vital bridges, rodways and facilities with high explosives.
Invade me, and you'll have something which more closely resembles the Bay of Pigs. ;)

Roseberg does not bow. He wanted to buy land due to overpopulation, and we let him know that if he decides to head out and grab somebody's land by force, he'd best look elsewhere.

Well getting up and saying "HEY, YOU! I AM A SMALL COUNTRY! THAT'S RIGHT! COME AND GET SOME!" isn't the best strategy for not getting invaded.
And in any case, The USSY has no intention of invading a nation like yours. We are looking for something of value, you see. And either way, we have options for non-violent expansion.
But mainly, I am looking for an Island to start a new RP. I like to keep things a smidge realistic, by buying weapons, technology, and, in this case, land.

Look, if you guys want to blather on about war, then do it in another thread. The USSY will never invade another country unprovoked.
Now if anyone has an island they wish to sell, that meets the specifications, please, by all means, submit it.
If you are just gonna be all ohemmgee, i no want u invade!, then leave.

Oh please, my countrys waste tops about 134,000,000,000 dollars.
Even though my country's taxes are lower, I can tax more people, thus, a larger revinue.
And I never said that you were going to force someone to give up their land, its just their land, and you are mostely purchasing from larger nations who had that land for a while

http://nsdossier.texasregion.net/main.aspx, check my country yourself if you don't believe me. It wastes 43.6 billion a year. (you'll have to check the "Calculate Economic Tables box, I think)
Anyways, I agree with Stoklomolvi, and furthermore, check your facts before saying something.
