Factbook of The United Republic of Majority

Brief Cultural and Geographical Overview
The United Republic of Majority is a landlocked state roughly twice the size of France, with a population of around 500,000,000 citizens living mainly in the two very dense cities and large farms that cover much of the land. The terrain is largely flat, with no significant mountain ranges or remaining large forests. The climate is comparable to the warmer regions of Western Europe.
Culturally, Majority is split roughly equally between citizens of British, French and German descent, with a growing influx of Middle Eastern immigrants currently making up an undocumented percentage of the population.
Note: the name of the nation depends on the origins of the incumbent Chairman. A French Chairman would result in the nation being officially referred to as Majorité, etc. This dates back to troubles in the First Parliament when the seperate assemblies had great difficulty agreeing on a name for the new state.

Brief Historical Overview
The history of Majority is largely undocumented, as the United Republic is an invention of the last 50 years. At some point in the last 600 years, the land that is now known as Majority was settled by colonists from France, Germany and Britain. Over the last 550 years the colonists thrived and established close relations, until in 1950 the loose parliaments of the three main colonial groups ratified laws uniting their lands into the United Republic of Majority. At the same time, projects were commenced that resulted in the founding of three regional capitals, the only cities in Majority: New Berlin, New Paris and New London. In 1967, a nuclear power plant on the outskirts of New London experienced a catastrophic meltdown that killed thousands outright and resulted in the irradiation of the entire city. The population of New London had to be evacuated to the other two cities and rural towns and villages, significantly boosting their populations and resulting in the creation of two 'British Quarters'. New London has since been deserted, a source of great disillusion for the British-descended population.

Brief Political Overview
Majority is run by local assemblies which make decisions for individual communities based on guidelines passed by the Central Parliament. Since the formation of Majority in 1950, all citizens over the age of 16 are nominal members of the Majority Commune party,a leftist party focusing on increased personal rights and economic regulation. The vast majority of members of the Central Parliament are highly left-wing, but 5 of the 100 seats are reserved for centrist and centre-right candidates in the interests of avoiding total homogeny. This structure has been in place through much of Majority's history, and the attempts from 1968-70 to dismantle this structure by Generalissimo Petain (no relation to the historical figure) in the wake of the New London Disaster resulted in a largely peaceful uprising and speedy replacement.
