Darial Gorge UC, Adygea, was formally opened to all foreign militaries by order of the Minister of Defence Tolenka Kakirkin (at the suggestion of Chief of the General Staff Vanya Golenischev-Kutzov) on the afternoon of 1 November, 2007. All nations are invited to use the facility, even those that the Adygean government does not have a warm relationship with. [ed. note: people I know oocly, feel free to use, but ask if I don't know you or possibly don't like your country]
Darial UC is built around Darial Fort, in the gorge of the same name, half-way between the start and end of the Georgian Military Road. Close by are the Gates of Alexander; the Terek River runs through the valley below the fort. Darial UC is the only mountain training ground in Adygea, and rises around 1350 metres above the Terek. It has so far served as the home of the renowned 10th Mountain Brigade of the Adygean Army, as well as a training ground for units from Georgia and Armenia. The fort itself was constructed during the Russian-Circassian War by the Russians, and was used during the Cold War as a training ground for both local and faraway units in the USSR. Upkeep and use by the Adygean military has continued into the modern era.
