A Republic or Dictatorship?

Shiloba

The government of Shiloba needs help from other nations. Recently the government has been acting like a dictatorship but it is not. Since we have begun to purchase nuclear units, and build up military, only for the revolution, our citizens have gone mad.

They have burned down the "Central Republic Monument" of Shiloba. We are requesting police forces to help, since they have crippled ours, and money of our fellow officers are part of the protest. We have already sent in troops to help the situation, but this angers the crowds even more.

Is it possible that any nation would be willing to help us?

To Shiloba,

With your approval we will send 1,000 troops under the command of Colonel Johnson to assist you with your current "problems". We will await your approval to do so. Thank you and have a nice day.

If You Suspect Your Country Has Been Taken Over By A Dictator-

First off, breathe. Don't panic. You're probably hallucinating.
If you cannot seem to convince yourself that these are just delusions, commit suicide. Society needs fewer people like you.
If you cannot bring yourself to commit suicide, report to the authorities and they'd be glad to assist.

If You'd Like To Be A Dictator-

The most important thing is to never use the word "dictator". You will never become anything that way.
Talk about "freedom" and "strength" in the same sentence a lot.
Say that the "greatest human right" is "the right to be protected".
Say that the "most important freedom" is "freedom from fear".
Somehow manage to imply that "most important" has the same meaning as "only".
Cheat. Lie. Steal. Manipulate. But don't call it that.
Don't be hesitant. Murder everyone in your way or send them to prison for being unpatriotic.
Avoid suspicion until it's too late.
Become a benevolent leader and govern your people well.

Official Statement of the Allied Union of Velkyan Republics

The deteriorating situation in the Republic of Shiloba has garnered the mighty Allied Union's attention and observation, and, as a precaution against both international and Velkyan sea and airborne merchant traffic in the territorial and international waters around the nation of Shiloba, the Grand Assembly of the Union has, with presidential approval, authorized the deployment of a combined naval and aerial task force to the region, with the intention of establishing a protective armed presence in order to safeguard aforementioned mercantile resources.

Rest assured, the task force's patrol pattern will steer it clear of all foreign territorial lines, be they Shiloban or otherwise, and will not under any circumstances proactively engage foreign military or civilian assets unless under direct threat or authorization to initiate said actions, which, of course, will be followed by a formal declaration of war by the Allied Union of Velkyan Republics against the offending party. When the Grand Assembly judges the political and military situation in Shiloba stabilized enough for Shiloban naval assets to properly safeguard local lanes of merchant traffic, the task force will be withdrawn as soon as practically possible and normal political and military relations will resume with the Republic of Shiloba and all other involved parties.

Should any nation-state or involved party be privvy to the nature of our actions, rest assured they carry the most benevolent attentions possible, and we seek to maintain order, not to destroy it.

As if perfectly in tune with the motions of their supporting government, the dozen vessels of the 504th Carrier Battle Group (home ported at Vladivostok, AUVR) of the Allied Union Federal Navy began to slowly change course, their sprawling formation, centered on the Longinus class aircraft carrier AUS Arkam, performing the perfectly choreographed maneuver north towards their newly acquired destination.

Their mission was outwardly one of peace and stability, but the sailors, marines, and officers of the 504th were soberingly aware that the dark and chaotic specter of war was never too distant to haunt them anew.

The NAS has been monitoring the rapidly disintegrating civil situation in Shiloba for some time, and it has come to our attention that the Velkyan Republics intend to assemble a peacekeeping mission to the country. The NAS looks very favourably upon this venture, and wishes to suggest a joint operation between Velkyan and NAS forces.

Two nations have greater influence than one, and greater legitimacy.

And why in the first place are they protesting? Maybe they are tired of the stupidity of your government. But still as President of the Republic of Greston I am forced to send troops. They will govern your protesters so that large scale violance or even a rebelion can be prevented. The setting sun cast a furnace-light over the ocean, a million reflections glittering upon her surface. Crashing through the water with the grace of a herd of bricks, the 5th Fleet of the NAS Kriegsmarine approached Waypoint 129, where they would meet their temporary allies.

Bridge of the aircraft carrier KMS Rostov
1903hrs

"<Velkyan task force in sight, Herr Admiral,>" chimed a young officer. "<Dead ahead.>"

Vizeadmiral Olaf Marzell stood tall on the bridge, looking just the part in his tailored uniform. A thin man, he nevertheless bore an air of confidence in his every action. The captain of the Rostov, Kapitän Karlmann Cort, stood ready beside him.

"<Instruct the battlegroup to fall in behind them, Cort.>" he ordered. Cort saluted, and began relaying instructions to subordinates, and to the following ships. Marzell himself accosted a radio operator.

"<Open a channel to the Velkyan task force,>" he instructed the crewman.

"<Jawohl, Herr Admiral.>"

"This is Vizeadmiral Marzell of the New Aryan State Kriegsmarine to the Velkyan Task Force. We are approaching you from the north-east, much obliged if you don't open fire."

OOC: My contribution. One aircraft carrier, one cruiser, two light cruisers, two dedicated anti-air frigates, six destroyers. Five infantry battalions (5,250 men with AA and AT equipment), one armoured battalion (106 MBTs, 24 SPAA, 24 ATGM carriers), two artillery companies (340 men, 34 105mm guns) and suitable logistics personnel.

The NAS fleet, having long since been tracked and confirmed by Navy early warning aircraft and high altitude balloons, was greeted by an enthusiastic fly-by of a pair of Velkyan interceptor aircraft over the newly arrived formation's flagship. Helmsmen on both sides began to coordinate their maneuvers and headings, and by early that evening, the combined formation of thirty vessels, spearheaded by the AUS Glorious, a Colossus class battleship and primary surface combatant of the fleet. Following her was the combined escort screen of Velkyan and Aryan destroyers, frigates and cruisers, surrounding the Rostov, Arkam, and supply vessels of the task force. On the far perimeters of the fleet, a trio of nuclear attack submarines of the Federal Navy kept a silent vigil, their passive SONAR arrays serving as the unquestionable ears of the fleet.

The combined force was now only several days from the immediate vicinity of the Republic of Shiloba, and with the threat picture clear for now, the joint command staff could afford to unwind, if only for a moment and a small measure. A wire was sent via joint command channels to the Rostov from the Arkam's bridge, inviting the commanding officers of the Aryan carrier group to a meal aboard the massive Velkyan warship, for the purposes of "international relations".

Or, Admiral Gianfranco Belluci smiled to himself as he sent the transmission, an excuse to booze it up with their opposite numbers in the Kreigsmarine.

The only reason our police force is crippled is because a lot of them are protesting too! In this, no matter what side of the law you're on, you're going to find protestors. If riots continue for much longer, our nation's economy could be affected.

No sooner had the engine of the Aryan transport helicopter began idling, then a rather frazzled looking second lieutenant had emerged from below decks, leading the foreigners up the floating fortress' decks, past huge quadruple twenty inch turrets and vertical launch cells, past armored box launchers and close in warfare systems, until they began the lengthy climb to the bow observation and gunnery tower, the highest point on the ship and home to both optical and radio based ranging and targeting devices.

After a comfortable ride in the tower's lift system, the door slide open, into a breech where two Federal Marine Corps enlisted men saluted the foreigners and second lieutenant, who proceeded to travel back down the elevator, his task completed. At the far end of the room stood a tall, lanky figure, who slowly turned from his spot at the bow facing view port to face the newcomers. His dutiful nod was accompanied by a warming smile, and he waltzed in a gallant fashion to the door of the lift, extending his hand to the Aryan vice admiral.

"Gentlemen, you may drop the formalities, we are all sailors here." Belluci smiled, before turning to a subordinate who had dropped a rather sarcastic smile in the wake of his comment.

"Harold, our remaining time?"

The young ensign turned from his console and saluted, dutifully stating that the formation was traveling at maximum sustainable speed and should reach the allied patrol route within two days under current heading. Belluci turned to a watch commander, nodding as he gave him temporary command of the watch bridge.

Belluci let out a hearty laugh, before leading his party into the lift. The ride back down to the core of the ship was uneventful, and they stepped out and negotiated the passageways and bulkheads of the massive vessel for a quarter of an hour before they had reached the flag officer's mess. Stepping into the fancily decorated (for a ship of the line) dining room, they were seated by ordinarily dressed sailors (the Federal Navy was not inclined to train waiters or dress its men for a nonexistent position).

A few minutes later, their respective orders had emerged from the kitchens, and set down in front of the eager officers. At the table sat Admiral Belluci, the three Aryans sailors, and various ranking officers of the Federal Navy's task force. Belluci looked eagerly at his lobster, a rare delicacy aboard a government (har, har) vessel, before setting his eyes on his opposite number in the Aryan Kreigsmarine.

"Quite excellent, Herr Belluci," he said, tidying his plate. "I am tempted to ask for the recipe for the lobster."

Marzell had stopped smiling, his thoughts introspective and his expression blank.

"Belluci," he said in softer tones, "Six men are dead today, Gortanian troops, killed in the 'riots'. Twelve more were wounded beyond recovery. I do not think this will be a simple peacekeeping mission... I think we are walking into a civil war, and I worry for the men under my command."

Tremarendakian House of Lords, Dwelmant ah Celestin
1000 hours

The hall lights were dimmed, an unusual occasion, though the happenings in the House of Lords were rather unusual themselves. An elaborate system of speakers, used on normal occasions so that those with the floor may be better heard, was now emitting the tinny sounds of a Tremarendakian news reporter. The corresponding image of the attractive middle aged woman was being projected upon a large screen, and all twenty six lords of Tremarendakia were paying close attention to the tragedy unfolding before their eyes.

"Here in Shiloba, intense riots have broken out in the capital city. Early reports indicate that over ten human lives have been lost thus far in the chaos, which is reported to be the macrocosm of an intense public protest of the Shiloban government."

A collective gasp broke through the lords as the death toll was revealed, and little more of the newscast was necessary. The lords knew what must be done. The New Aryan State, having recently established relations with Tremarendakia was sending troops to assuage the situation, so why shouldn't Tremarendakia?

"Agreed, my friend, as do I. Though, of course, we are both speaking off of the official record, the situation in Shiloba greatly troubles me. This civil war is being aggravated and worsened by multiple foreign involvements in country, and the country is rapidly turning into an open battlefield. I would not be surprised if the peacekeeper's aegis that we currently wield is exchanged for the saber of the warrior in the immediate future, comrade."

Waiters came forward and removed the plates as the diners finished their meals, and a single midshipman carefully emerged from the kitchen with a icy bottle of Velkyan whiskey, fermented in barrels of Osean wild oaks by the finest distillers in all of Haven. The nervous midshipman placed the bottle on the table with a slight 'clunk' which produced a bright red shade in his cheeks.

"Sorry, sirs."

Belluci's mouth formed into a smile.

"Do better next time, sailor. But, for now, you may join us."

The midshipman was taken aback by the gesture, and Belluci smiled further. He then motioned for the myriad Marines and sailors in the room to gather around the table, and shot glasses with the emblem of the Federal Navy (the tri-star with an anchor and falcon) emblazoned on their sides were passed around. The rich brown spirit soon filled their confines, and Belluci smoothly passed three glasses to the Aryan officers opposite him.

"Gentlemen, if I may have your attention and a moment of your time," Marzell said clearly, "I would ask you to join me in a quick toast."

HMS Victory, Sailing for Shiloba,
1300 hours

The 2nd Expeditionary Fleet had been performing training exercises en route to Roseberg when Fleet Admiral James Worthington had received an urgent signal from Lord Solomon Charles, the Minister of War for Tremarendakia. Details had been hard to come by for the grunts in the fleet, but each man noticed their subtle change in course almost immediately. After several hours of sailing, the tension on the fleet's seven ships was immense. The brass all knew something, but no one was talking. Rumors were plenty, some said war had broken out and that they were bound to join a larger task force en route to invasion, while some suspected some natural disaster in some far flung corner of the world at the site of which they would provide support and aid.

They were each surprised, every last man, when more ships showed up on the horizon. Early counts numbered around thirty, and the air aboard the ships crackled with tangible excitement. This was, no doubt, the task force. Tremarendakia was going to war.

Or so they thought.

The excitement grew all the more powerful when Fleet Admiral Worthington left the deck of HMS Victory aboard a transport chopper, bound for a rendezvous with the brass of the foreign fleets. It was only a matter of time, the men of the 2nd Expeditionary Fleet thought, before they were engulfed in the first confrontation of their lives.

"And, my brothers, to liberty, and all those who thirst for it in the scorching deserts of oppression."

The men assembled in the room lifted the glasses to their lips, letting the bitter nectar of their homelands flow through their lips as easily as the memories connected with it flowed through their minds. For many, the memories were something to be cherished, and to one day be relived in a place far away from chaotic foreign seas and battlefields.

No sooner had the momentary reverie descended then the loudspeaker forced its ascent from the gathering, announcing the arrival of the Tremarendakian naval force and their accompanying commanding officers in a transport aircraft.

Belluci was, again, first to speak.

"Gentlemen, it appears we have visitors. Consider this particular violation of official military practice ended, haha."

A ripple of laughter echoed through the room as the officers, sailors, and Marines of the ship returned to their normal duties. Belluci and his Command Air Group (CAG) approached the Aryan officers.

"Comrades, our Tremarendakian allies will arrive momentarily, we will escort you to the Combat Information Center, if you will follow us."

Marzell felt the biting warmth in his throat begin to dull, and did his best to affect a normal speaking voice. The Velkyan whiskey had been a little more potent than he'd been expecting.

"Lead the way," he said.

From the Most Holy Empire of Gortania:

Today Gortanian peace keeping forces raided rioting stocks all over the nation. Hundreds of weapons were siezed and dozens of insurgents were captured or killed. 9 Gortanian soldiers were also killed in this operation bringing the Imperial death toll to 15 so far. The Empire sincerely hopes that this will help bring the country back under control sooner.

The immediate affect from the whiskey had the effect of lifting the nose hairs of the Velkyan commanding officers, but farther than that was doubtful as they and their Aryan comrades stepped into the PCIC in the armored core of the Glorious. The room, well adorned with holographic and liquid crystal displays in addition to traditional navigational and command plots. The center of the room was the throne to a gigantic plasma display of the fleet's surroundings, displaying variably weather conditions, sensory readouts, and air defense information, amongst other pertinent information.

The Glorious, Victory, Rostov, and Arkham were clearly visible among the nearly forty ships in the international squadron, each represented by simple blue polygon with heading, velocity, integrity, and of course, nominal flags beside it.

Belluci's normally warm and jovial manner dropped quite noticabely whilst in this room, settling at the demeanor of an experienced and well seasoned commanding officer. He turned to his guests with an important air.

"Here is where the triviality stop, comrades. According to our helms, we have entered our patrol lanes, so it is here that we will split our formation to better cover them. I assume you have similar facilities to this within your own vessels, yes?"

Tremarendakian Transport Helicopter T-42: Landing aboard AUS Glorious

Admiral James Worthington hated flying. Ever since a child he had been terribly, violently sick every time he took to the sky. At sea his stomach could weather the strongest storm, but a slight gust in the air sent waves of nausea coursing through him. Opposite the admiral, Colonel Adam Knight, commander of the 7th Infantry's detachments traveling with the Admiral's fleet, looked upon his green superior with worry. Such a state of nausea was not becoming before a meeting of such importance as this. Fortunately for both men, the helicopter trip was relatively short, and the admiral had dismounted as quickly as possible once the chopper crew had given the OK.

The immensity of the Glorious was astounding. Even to the Admiral, who had captained nearly every vessel in the Tremarendakian naval arsenal at one point or another, was impressed. Following a deckhand who offered his assistance to the Tremarendakian officers, they made their way slowly down to the Combat Information Center, where they met the Velkyan and Aryan officers already there.

"Good evening, gentlemen," the admiral spoke, already looking considerably less green, "I am Fleet Admiral James Worthington, and this is Colonel Adam Knight."

"Very similiar, Herr Belluci. We should be able to communicate quite securely, provided the enemy does not have access to electronic warfare or jamming resources, which is almost certain."

Marzell was about to excuse himself and return to his own ship when two officers entered the CIC. One, he knew, was in Tremarendakian naval uniform, and he assumed the other to be Tremarendakian army or marines.

He held back, allowing Belluci to be the first to welcome their new comrades-in-arms.

Belluci confidently nodded to the Tremarendakians, shaking both officers' hands before returning to the command plot.

"Now, gentlemen, to the task at hand. How best can we marshal our resources to maintain the safety of the merchant lanes in the area?"

"Not particularly, Sir. We look to be of as much help as we possibly can, though I doubt our naval forces alone will be much good, should it come to blows. Allow us to land our army contingent, and we'll show the true might of Tremarendakia." Worthington's rant was accompanied by a enthusiastic nodding of Knight's head, which made the statement appear almost comical.

Belluci was slightly alarmed but amused at the Tremie, as he would mentally refer to people of the Tremarendakian nationality as from this moment forward. It's a handful to type, anyways.

"My friend, we are not here to spark additional conflict. Let us not emulate the brash actions of the Gortanians and others, and add fuel to the fires of instability in the region. We are here to keep the peace, not to start further war and bloodshed."

Belluci's face was slightly disconcerting. It almost felt to Worthington as though he was hard at work thinking of a fantastic new adjective to describe the Tremarendakian people.

The Velkyan's words, though, were not quite so reassuring.

"I will accept patience only so long, Mr. Belluci. If innocents are losing there lives, I hope that you have the good sense to send in the cavalry, as they say."

[OFFICIAL MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF SHILOBA]

Riots have finally died down, although their are a remaining 1.500 protestors, who will be taken care of shortly. The people of our country have finally realized that the government has been acting in such ways for the own good of the people.

From now on, we will fund more towards education, and government affairs. Perhaps defence.

All Gortania is overjoyed to hear the riots have nearly been crushed. The Emperor hopes his soldiers were useful in achieving this result and has announced that the Gortanian force minus the casualties (Now 25 dead total from the earlier 15 and a number more wounded) will slash its force from 5000 to 3000 and these forces will be used to defeat the remaining rioters and will then be withdrawn.

[OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE FROM THE ROYAL SOVEREIGNTY OF ARALONIA]

To: The Foolish, Foolish Leaders of the Cracking Nation of Shiloba

I would like to personally note that your nation seems incredibly unstable as of late, due to numerous government changes. As a result, the Royal Sovereignty of Aralonia will begin a full naval blockade of your nation on all shores, and will be flying continuous air patrols around your borders. These two measures will take place to prevent your crumbling government from taking any further action regarding world affairs. Let it be known that if any non-civilian ship or aircraft leaves this blockade and air patrol region, they will be destroyed on contact. As of now, we impose upon you the force that all civilian aircraft and ships are subject to deviations to check points when required. There is no 'if' clause.

These actions, may I note, will also be undertaken under the fullest and greatest hope that your nation will recover from its current political turmoil and will become, eventually, a better platform for world affairs.

"Ok, as you see on the projecter, men-"
"ahem"
"-oh, and women, we are going to discuss the current situation in Shilob-"

"HA!!!! HA!!!! Oh my god, hmm...sorry about that, just that, SHILOBA! HA!!!! Holy Crap, im actually crying!!! HAAA!!!!!"

Inside the conference room, everyone there was -literally- LOL. Some were even ROFL. One even was LMAO. They were crying from laughter. Even the people outside the glass room were pointing and laughing when they saw the projecter screen.

"HA!!! Sholoba!!! Its like they dont even have an army or something?!?!?! Their friggin' police force lost against a bunch of whiny civilians!! Ok, so the police eventually won. But its still, still - It's pathetic!!!!! HA!!! Shiloba, Shiloba. HA !!!! thats funny man."
"Okay, Okay, they are having some pro-"
"SOME PROBLEMS!!! HA!! These guys can't, can't-"

The laughing man suddenly falls to the floor, holding his chest with one hand, a Fanta can in the other. The orange soda slowly drains from the can.

"Oh my god he got a heart attack."
"Call 999!"

Your pathetic government and police force cost one of our smartest and important politicians his life, and I blame you, dictator but not dictator. Your Dictatorship but Democracy is what most people would call laughable. Anyhow, we will be sending a well trained squad of soldiers to train your "Police" into a great peace-keeping force.

That's insane! You blame us for a the death of your politician. Your nation is pathetic for looking upon others in such a manner. Your aid is rejected, and we are a new nation, and don't have that much power. And the reason our police force was so weak is because most of the Ghadam Police are in it!

So don't internationally make fun of our nation, and your government and politicians must be pretty stupid to laugh so hard at our nation, and have a heart attack. Your service is denied, thank you very much.

-End.

From the Most Holy Empire Of Gortania

The Empire would like to inform these nations that the conflict has nearly ended and that 3000 Gortanian combat troops are in the country and if any of them were to be hurt in these rash actions the Empire would retaliate and is NOT a small or weak nation and is NOT afraid to kill as many people as we have to in such a situation. Please heed our advice and don't re-escalate this conflict.

The Empire would like to know how is it to retrieve its forces or reinforce them with such a blockade in place?
