811 Emergency

Fire! There's fire!

Calm down where is the fire?

It's burning in the hills, hurry!

The call went out to Okawa Fire Department. This department was a specialized Wild Fire Team. Captain Shion Uzuki was nervous about this. a dry summer a huge amount of underbrush equals the perfect conditions for a monster. Not to mention they were all cat people, if things got too out of control would any one help? But that was the least of her thoughts right now. Now they had to focus on stopping the fire before it destroyed homes and businesses. The team arrived on sight and it was already a monster, growing and growing in size to the point of crowning. Never a good sign. "All right I want a line in here on the double!" Water was now pouring onto the fire. Time would tell if it were to work. "Chief!"

"What?"

"Message!"

"Hello?"

"We have reports of small fire outbreaks 12 kilometers north of you!"

"Well that's going to be kind of hard, were already trying to stop a crowning fire here!"

"We have air tankers enroute to your position, take your team and head north."

"If you say so. Let's pack it up, were going north!"

They moved up north to a fire that was in the same state but this was now approaching a hill. And once that happened it would be like turning a match upside down. "We have to get on that now!" They scrambled to assemble and head off the fire but it was too late it ascended up the hill, the heavy winds were creating mini fireswirls and embers and ash were being scattered into the winds. "Call HQ, by the time you do, those woods will be burning."

"Yes ma'am" Now the stage was set.

"Good morning I'm Yuki Iri, coming from western Neko-Opolis where not one but now three major fires are burning out of control several homes have already been evacuated. The fire started late last night.."

The news report was trickling off as fire teams began to stratagize how this would be handled. "An aerial assault is the best way."

"Not as good as a ground, theres a lot of underbrush locked in those woods all capable of starting small fires if these winds get any worse."

"We should have a crew on the ground and start spraying waters and flame retardants in the areas that haven't started burning yet., let the others burn out."

And so far that was the decided strategy but would it work, it seemed to until thing took a turn. A sudden dry thunder storm blew in and lighting sparked a new fire.

“Hello, I’m Earl Warren, and you’re watching the BNN International News, bringing you information from around the world as it happens, 100% unbiased.

Local fires around Okawa, Neko-Opolis are growing rapidly and threatening to swell to a level unmanageable by local fire authorities. With us today is fire expert Bryan Larusso, a retired fire fighter presently working as a government natural disasters analyst. Bryan?”

“Thanks, Earl. It seems what we have here is a classic situation which takes place in most nations every so often. Hot, dry summertime conditions, combined with dry brush, and an incredibly low humidity index, can make fires like this almost inevitable. In open areas, it is possible to ring the fire with firefighters and keep it contained within one area until fuel is gone and it burns out naturally, but with a populated zone this close the possibility they might lose control is simply too great. They must find a way to kill the fire as soon as that is possible. No doubt this has already occurred to the local authorities.”

“No doubt, and thank you, Bryan, for that insight in to this situation. In addition to this initial report, we are catching rumors than possibly two more large fires could be underway close by the first one. More on that as we find out. President Lemke has made contact with the government of Neko-Opolis, offering support if it is necessary, and he isn’t alone. Organizations such as the New Leota Red Cross have joined him, and have made offers of money and supplies to support any refugees displaced by the flames, and a lot of people have even volunteered to travel to Neko-Opolis to assist in managing what a large portion of the experts feel is a catastrophe in the making.”
