To Rule A Country (sign-up)

Buristan
22-10-2007, 03:48
Well, I have wanted for a while now to make a government RP, so here it is. The Setting will be Buristan, a small sized Arab state on the Persian Gulf. It is rich with oil, and is on the brink of an industrial revolution. The infrastructure is fledging, but there is little public welfare. Women are for the most part uneducated second-class citizens, however, recently, they have become more and more active, demanding reproductive rights and the vote. A four-branch government rules the country. The First Branch: the Executive Branch is headed by the President and possesses similar to the US President, however, rather than being elected by popular vote, the President is elected by the fifteen-member National Parliament, like a Prime Minister, and must be approved of by the fourth branch, the Clerical Council--a group of seven Clerics nominated by the President and approved of by the third branch of the government, the Judicial System. The Judicial system is headed by the three member High Court, who has the power of judicial review, the members have lifetime appointments by the President and approved of by the National Parliament. The Clerical Council can veto laws, but they can be overridden with a 3/5th majority in the National Parliament. The President can also veto laws, but can be overridden with a 3/5th majority as well.

Please select your post you wish to serve in. I will RP as a temporary President until the National Assembly is filled up enough to where it can adequately elect one itself. The nation is coming off fifteen years of military so this is the first Government of the new constitution (which I will be writing if there is enough interest)

A foreign policy supporting the promotion of democracy, the protection of human rights and where possible, effective multilateralism.
As well as human rights, social democrats also support social rights, civil rights and civil liberties. just some of the Views of the party

Name: National Libertarian Party
Religious view: Secular
Social Issues: Liberal-ish
Economic Issues: Laize Faire
Platform:
We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose. We oppose all interference by government in the areas of voluntary and contractual relations among individuals. People should not be forced to sacrifice their lives and property for the benefit of others. They should be left free by government to deal with one another as free traders; and the resultant economic system, the only one compatible with the protection of individual rights, is the free market. We oppose all government interference with private property, such as confiscation, nationalization, and eminent domain, and support the prohibition of robbery, trespass, fraud, and misrepresentation.

Name: Liberty, Democracy & Progress
Religious view: Moderately secular
Social Issues: Centrist
Economic Issues: Extremely free enterprise
Platform:
The main focus of the LDP as the party is known is the development of the private economy. They support low taxes for industry, but wishes to continue the government regulation of the oil fields. Through the profits from these fields, the LDP wishes to purchase agricultural tools that will allow the country to become more self-sufficent, hopefully creating a surplus with which to continue to expand agricultural production while investing in infrastructure at a local level.

Name: Supreme Islamic Union
Religious view: Theocratic, Sunni (anti-Sufism)
Social Issues: Conservative, shariah
Economic Issues: Supports a centrally planned economy
Platform:
Advocates a return to Shariah, and the creation of a government funded public school system based on the Koran. Advocates Muslim only immigration, and desires a government crackdown on Sufism in the country. Would grant more power to the Clerical Council, and would give religious leaders a special seat in the National Parliament.

Here is my idea for a fundamentalist party, if anyone wants to use them they are welcome.

Name: Communist Party of Buristan
Religious view: Secular
Social Issues: Leftist
Economic Issues: Government-regulated enterprise
Platform:
The main purpose of the CPB is to ensure equality for all. Corporations are to be monitored, and small shops should be subsidised by the government. Hence, items may be given to the populace for free, but each civilian may receive a maximum number of any given item. Food must be paid for by the people, but they may purchase however much they wish, since the people grow the food. Essentially, the people will own nothing; however, everyone will be treated equally. The rich will be eliminated. The poor will be the average. Equality for all!
