Zwangzug

editorial in the Merano Regency (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Merano_Regency)
The date of October 19 is known, if nothing more: whether the proclamation of sovereignty decades ago or the timid entrance onto the world scene just over a year ago-or was it?-that date holds some meaning as the anniversary of the day, whenever it was, that disorganized dreamers called themselves a country.
The world has proved to be a more fantastic place than any of Zwangzug's citizens could imagine, and the warping of what should have been consistent passage of time is just one aspect thereof. Nevertheless, the slow retreat from isolationism has been, by and large, a success. It couldn't have been accomplished alone. Zwangzug owes a considerable debt to its southern neighbor, Unkerlantum, for introducing it to the wider world. But similarly, Zwangzug influenced Modre, Modre inspired Meice, etcetera.
But the cold war has thawed. There is no better sign of not only north and south's cooperation and future than the very name of the region in which they reside: Starways Congress. The nation is no longer afraid to look skyward.
And so, Zwangzug enters the second phase-or whatever it is-in this era of its existence. There is much it still can do: stabilizing the economy would appear to be a priority. But it's made it this far, and the future appears bright. If this is what it means to be a nation, it cannot be as bad as was once feared.
