In Memory Of (FT)

Mythrandir

Far from war and far from grief, there sat an empty pocket of space that belonged to no one and at the same time it would soon belong to everyone. Because no matter what race or what nation someone hailed from, they were all united in one common emotion. And so it was that this unique little pocket of space called to its children in its own way.

Only a single metalic station marred the quiet darkness of space in this sector built for a purpose that none could possibly understand. An existance that needed to be viewed from within to understand. Built for one purpose in this short life and that purpose was known only to the Myth that had travelled so long and so far to find this peacefully patch of space. For what it would come to represent to them and perhaps others, it deserved nothing less.

Construction of this quaint station was methodical in every sense until the final wing was completed. Now it sat in space, tethered but otherworldly forces that would not let it leave this peaceful place. For if there was no peace, then there was nothing worth having. And peace for this lone sanctuary seemed to be all that mattered at this point in time.

Sebastian and his wife Sarah walked its finished halls. There was no sound except for the slow breathing of those that had accompanied them and the footfalls of the young Elder and his wife. Behind the couple the remaining Elders stopped and knelt down in this now sacred place. The griffon, elf, and dwarf bowed their heads in respect for what the ones before them were going through. Only the dark elf, War Mistress Shizra, continued on with the couple but even she stopped outside the threshold of the large central chamber that opened up high to the spire that adorned the pinnacle of the station. Once her heels clicked the last inch of metalic flooring, the dark elf knelt down as well.

Now only Sebastian and Sarah walked on the grassy flooring of the central chamber. An artificial breeze was created as well to give the room some symbolance of home. Throughout the entire walk to this one room, Sebastian had remained strong despite the grief that tore at his heart. Valiantly he had fought back the tears that threatened to overwhelm and send him to his knees and only those that knew him best could feel the struggle that was within him. However this one room drove memories back into his mind that were too much to bear. Memories of when life was at its best seemed to reflect in his eyes as his tears welled up. He could remember the joyous times spending outdoors fishing at a lake or showing all the great mysteries of the forest to a young mind that was full of wonder.

It was all too much to hold back as he let out an uncontrolled sob. Only the presence of his wife, staying strong by his side, kept him standing. The closer he walked, the more the tears fell and in greater strength until they finally reached the center where Sebastian gave in and hit his knees. Far away from anyone that could hear, except Sarah, Sebastian let the sobs come. Tears fell like rain splashing onto an engraved panel. Sebastian ran his fingers through his hair wishing that he could stop crying but more importantly, wishing that life was not the cruel fate that it was.

Sarah stifled a silent cry, more for her husband's state than any sense of loss that was represented here. The young woman looked down at the plaque that her husband was running his fingers over and read it silently.

"Katlyn (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11826969&postcount=7). Even the smallest of angels has wings and a light that can bring happiness to even the darkest of souls. May your journey to heaven be swift and may you find happiness in the gardens of paradise. You shall be missed by all."

It was a dark day when the news reached the Elders of the death of this young girl and all of Mythrandir mourned her loss. Above the plaque, a flame burned eternally with the image of the beautiful blond haired blue eyed girl smiling with a missing tooth. She was no more than ten when death took her from those that cared about her. Sebastian let out an ironic laugh amidst his tears. "How is it that the young are taken from us while the old linger on in their sorrow? Would it not be more merciful to take the old who have grown cold in their hearts than to take the young that is so full of life and hope?"

Sarah had no answers for him, nor would anyone else. She could only benevolantly rub his back until he finished. Finally the Elder did sit up and wiped away his tears and took all that had been created. "May God take you swiftly into his arms and shield you in his never ending light."

Kissing the epitaph, Sebastian then rose from the ground and took his wife by the hand. Together they walked back out the same way they had came. Shizra and the rest quickly saw the red in Sebastian's eyes which caused them all to advert their gaze. For a man that was so strong and happily content with the life he lived, the broken spirit before them could stir even the hardest of hearts.

Together they left behind the burning image of a smiling young girl and gifts that had been piled high for her around her marker. Perhaps most important of them all was the very same fishing rod that Sebastian gave her on the first time out to a lake. It lay there now in silently memory of a fond time that could never be regained. There were countless other rooms as well though none as grand as the one Sebastian and Sarah left behind. But there was no telling when those emptied rooms would be filled with the lost of loved ones. Life was cruel in that way where partings were often unexpected leaving behind those that would never be whole again because there was nothing that could make every hurt go away.

And now the Myths left this station to its fate, a constant symbol that all life was sacred and in rememberance of those we have lost and hope to see again one day. There was nothing to protect it; not a shield or a single war vessel of the Forge but only a beacon containing a message to any that would wander by. A message that simply warned all races that came to this space with malice in their hearts to stay away for this was a space that was reserved for the saddened and the broken. It was a place where those of us that have been left behind could come to bid farewell to their lost loved ones one last time. For a fate worse than death awaited those that would dare disturb such a holy place.

(This post was in memory of someone I know who died just recently. Obviously a little girl. You may post if you so desire but my one request is that no arguing take place here or aggression of any form. This is not some place for fleets to battle or soldiers to war over. Simply put, it is a memorial as stated in the story.)
