The Université de Salisburgne (Another Intl. School, Open MT)

Cotenshire
19-10-2007, 03:24
King William V Salisbury, noting the fashionable trends that have recently arisen among prestigious states and never turning down an opportunity to show his dynasty’s grandeur, has decreed that a new university shall be founded in the Cotenshirick city of Caen. The immense project, which normally would take several decades, has lasted a mere seven months due to the colossal reserves of manpower and resources at the hands of the King.

After being open to students from the Cotenshirick Kingdom for the past two months, the Université de Salisburgne is now ready to accept students from other parts of the Dominion and the world.

His Majesty, King William V Salisbury, eternal architect of the great wonders of mankind and the divine Providence alike, has unveiled his most prodigious project to date. Seeing as ignorance and vulgarity are two of the most terrible blights afflicting human progress, the founding of this most spectacular of educational institutions, the Université de Salisburgne, is His Majesty’s elixir to what ails Christian civilization.

Such is the scope of His Majesty’s vision that it sublimely outshines all previous universities in acquired as well as disseminated knowledge. The Grand Library has over 42 million books and other documents, which makes it easily the greatest collection of both ancient and modern learning in the Dominion’s exalted history. Students to the university will have full access to the Grand Library whenever they deem it expedient.

His Majesty has also collected from around the Dominion the greatest minds ever to contemplate their respective fields of expertise as professors in the Université’s six colleges. These colleges shall be listed individually.

College of Natural Philosophy
The largest of the colleges, the College of Natural Philosophy is His Majesty’s answer to the likes of Aristotle, Copernicus, and Newton. Students participating in this eminent academy assimilate extensive knowledge, the calibre of which will be unequaled anywhere else, through experimental procedure and Socratic dialogue. Students who study here for five or more years and present a successful dissertation may be endowed the esteemed title of Philosophiae Doctor.

The College of Natural Philosophy is divided in to five principle schools.

School of Anatomy: This school is for students pursuing knowledge of the human body and its components. Every course meeting features a dissection of a human cadaver or one of its specific appendages.

School of Astronomy: This school is for students who wish to study the heavens. The Copernican model is favored by the Université staff over the Ptolemaic model, although both are completely open for discussion. Students attending the School of Astronomy will have complete access to the Université Observatory and the Leicester Observatory as well as limited access to the William V Salisbury Observatory.

School of Physical Science: The courses of this school discuss abstractions of the various theories of mechanism through the use of both qualitative and numerical models. Special emphasis is given to Newtonian physics, with other interest present in theories of both the ancients and the moderns, with the desired goal of conciliating all of this immense body of learning in to a set of universal truths on the laws that govern the universe.

School of Engineering: This school seeks to delineate from the abstractions of the School of Physical Science and apply its concepts to more practical matters. The primary emphasis of this school is how to construct machines, structures, and other systems for practical purposes. The courses range from those on broad rules to apply under the process of design to specific courses on engineering in the fields of architectural, structural, and aero-space. It is recommended that students attending this school also attend the School of Physical Science.

School of Herbology: This school is for students that wish to study the plants of the Earth. Special attention is given to medicinal practices, although emphasis in some courses is also placed on the breeding of plants.

College of Theology
The prestigious College of Theology will provide an exemplary education to those students wishing to pursue this very king of the sciences. Dialogues will be held every course meeting over morality, doctrine, the nature of the divine, and other topics fundamental to our spiritual existence.

College of Liberal Arts
Students in the College of Liberal Arts will attain higher levels of humanity and consciousness through the studies of the topics that instill harmony, enlightenment, and refinement. Such subjects that are emphasised are rhetoric, history, writing, art, dance, and conduct.

College of Music
The College of Music is for students whose gift is their musical talent. The College of Music is divided in to two areas of study: choral and instrumental works. Students of this renown college receive regular lessons from the finest musicians in the dominion, including many of fame in the court of the King himself.

College of Navigation
The College of Navigation is for students destined to make their names on the rough rude sea. The latest modern instruments and techniques are applied by students to actual sailing situations, which is made capable by Caen’s position on the shore of Lake Aargau, a lake of such immense size that it accurately simulates sailing conditions on the open sea.

College of Metallurgy
Students of the College of Metallurgy learn the most modern techniques in the field of metalworking. This College is most famous for its goldsmithing program. Students will be taught basic and advanced metalworking and will be given apprenticeships with some of the Dominion’s finest metalworkers.

The yearly tuition for students of the Université de Salisburgne is currently £716, although this is actually a miniscule amount for the sheer volume of education that students will receive. Many students might also be applicable for tuition reductions or even complete waivers, so seek these opportunities if the price seems formidable.

Students are required to be literate. Illiteracy will prevent access to vital knowledge and will impede course work. Students are also encouraged to have some prior knowledge of the subjects they wish to study. While this is not required, students will find that having such knowledge will greatly increase their learning efficacy.

Students will enjoy great benefits, such as access to the many sporting grounds nearby the Université. Students also receive a complete tax exemption and may be applicable for a partial or complete tithe exemption. Students may purchase an on-campus housing dormitory for £135. Any students, whether or not they live on campus, are exempt from any soldier billeting obligations with the full force of a Royal Decree.

I urge potential students not to allow their minds to languish in this age where ignorance is commonplace. Exercise your power of enlightenment that is endowed upon you by our Lord. I can assure you, there is no better educational institution in the world than His Majesty’s own Université de Salisburgne.

Signed,
Sir William Connorwright, Chancellor of the Université de Salisburgne

(OOC: Questions and comments, even if you are not applying, are welcome. It is not required to submit character background information for this RP, although it is encouraged of you to do so. I may add more information about this university and this thread based on whatever I think of and what kind of feedback I get.)

[OOC: Due to my usual lack of interest in these types of threads, I will not be applying. However, I must say, that is THE best university starter thread I have EVER seen. Very nice. Also, did you draw that massive bird? It really adds to the flavour of that post.]

To the Honourable Mr. Shives,

I, on behalf of the whole faculty of the Université, welcome you to the greatest institution of learning in the Dominion and, quite possibly, the world. I have discussed your application with some of the professors from the School of Engineer, and they are overjoyed to have foreign students under their instruction.

I must inform you that the Université does not offer “sports scholarships,” at least not in the way that I understand the term, although I can assure you that it will be easy for me to find a patron willing to pay your tuition in full, including on campus housing if you so desire.

I am glad to hear that you are interested in sport recreation, since the Université is placed near some of the greatest hunting and equestrian grounds in the Dominion. There are also many other sports partaken by students at their leisure, such as boating, fishing, archery, falconry, hockey, and football. As you can see, there is no shortage of activities for the modern sports enthusiast.

I will probably have you completely registered by the time you arrive, so you may begin attending classes as soon as you settle in. If you need any assistance, you should have a word with the honourable Mr. Rainulf Fitzosmond, Master Steward of the Université, who has also been charged with the orientation of foreign students. He will help you become acclimated to life in Caen.

Sir Geldford has agreed to allow all foreign students to peruse his private aeroport, which is only ten miles from the campus. If you have any aeroplanes or helicopters of your own, they may be stored in his hanger at no cost. If you wish to enter the Dominion by boat, then I would advise docking in the city of Satoon, from which Caen is only six days by railroad.

You have made an excellent decision in pursuing your education at the Université de Salisburgne. In all your future endeavours, I wish you success.

Signed,
Sir William Connorwright, Chancellor of the Université de Salisburgne

While the Université has attracted an enormous amount of interest from the other states of the Dominion, international interest has not exactly been ideal. Sir Connorwright did not know exactly how many foreign students he could attract to the Dominion for education when he started this program, but he would like to hear any questions or concerns of potential foreign students that are scaring them away from applying.
