Practice War IC Thread

The Northern Baltic

OoC: This is the official practice war IC thread. I probably could've given it a better title, but I figured this would be easier to find. I will be playing the current government on the island.

The Capitol
IC: The lights in the bunker switched on.
General Nassir slowly opened his eyes to see who would bother him. A young solider, fresh out of the Homeland Defense School, the island's sole military school, stood at attention in the doorway.
"At Ease, solider" ,the general said while making a half hearted attempt to salute while clearly mostly asleep.
The solider, his feet now resting 4 feet from each other, replied in the tone the instructors back at the academy taught him, yelling.
"King and Queen are preparing to leave. They order, by decree, that you command a squad to escort them."
"Escort them?" The general let out a long laugh. "What are we, at war?" The general laughed again at the mer thought of that.
"No sir, but the King and Queen have been alarmed at the recent military buildup by the other nations owning land on this island."
"So? You know we haven't had a full scale war since, oh my it must've been '52, no '39. Yes! The last war we had must've been in 1839. Of course, we had those damn Commie rebels in the '70's, but we haven't had any problems from them since they retreated back into the hell they came from in '75."
"But... sir! The King and Queen cannot wait for you to make up your mind..." The solider looked outside the window. "They're ready."
"Screw them" replied the general, "Tell them to get some Police or something."

The King and Queen ended up leaving the Capitol with only four bodyguards taken from the local police stations to head across to the other side of the island.

The East Jungle
Clutching her outdated PP-41, Nina Blanca crept through the jungle. Stopping at a clearing, she crept into a small trench and began crawling until she reached an area with several tents.
She walked over to several men listening to radio reports and discussing news their contacts brought from inside the cities.
"Comrades! I bring news from Vladimir!"
"Vladimir? Our contact in the Central Police depot?"
"Yes. He reports that the King and Queen are moving down Road 32 to the Military Academy."
"Excellent. This could be the chance we've been waiting for. Attention Comrades! Grab your weapons. Today is the day that they will again fear the United Labor Liberation Front. A group of 17 men left the camp to set up an ambush on the road the King and Queen were set to come down. Little did they know that a small detachment of troops had been set to rendezvous with the King and Queen's convoy at the spot they planned their ambush.

National United Mine and Steel Corporation, Center of the Island
The relativity new "Factory-B" had surpassed all previous production estimates. The previous estimated number of steel and platinum bars had been surpassed ten fold. Five months ago. Of course, with these new production records, the government had toned down on anti-trust and lowered the minimum wage. Anything so long as the economic growth continued. Of course, workers were angered by this injustice, but private security firms, such as Juki Defense, were employed to ensure order.

500 miles North-northeast of Fort Ironwall
A pair of Ka-25 naval helicopters preceded the Kalmurstan Northern Fleet by several dozen miles, keeping watch for any activity ahead. It had been quiet so far, and no-one expected this to change.

The fleet carried several army companies, set to bolster the forces at Fort Ironwall. The request for additional forces had been authorised just over a week ago, and through long-range airlifts the garrison had already reached over 1,700 front-line strength spread across all three forces, and the forces aboard would boost this to over three-times that.

Fort Ironwall
The past week had been equally quiet at the Kalmurstan command centre in Fort Ironwall. The Northern Fleet were expected in just under forty-eight hours time, and an overfly by two Su-24's earlier in the day had confirmed the ships were where they should have been.

The only other sorties flown that day had been a standard patrol along the edge of Kalmurstani territory on the island, which had been uneventful, and an AWACS, currently still airborne, expected home in just under an hour.

The base commander signed off on another early morning patrol and sighed. This posting was starting to lose the shine it had held. It was too hot here, there were hundreds of insects trying to eat him, and all he was doing was signing sheets of paper. Hopefully he'd have something more to do when the fleet arrived and dropped off more fresh-blood.

150 Miles North of Fort Ironwall
As the Northern Fleet neared the island, the decision was made to airlift the two Arctic Wolves spec-ops regiments to the base ahead of the bulk of the force. They would use the six Mi-24 "Hind-D" aircraft currently flight-ready, along with thirteen of the fleets Ka-29 "Helix-B" helicopters to ferry the troops to the island. The nineteen helicopters would need to fly three round trips to and from the island the get all 576 troops to Fort Ironwall.

The deck of Ivan Rogov Class landing ship KNS Vladimir Grenov was a flurry of activity as two Su-24's arced overhead. These flights had come to be just another daily happening for the men and women aboard Northern Fleet's twenty-four vessels, and most continued as normal. A few glanced skywards for a moment before returning to prepping the Hind's for the coming mission.

Similar checks were being conducted on 14 of the 18 Ka-29's aboard KNS Admiral T'blis, a Kuznetsov Class carrier, and KNS Yosif Sokolov, a second Ivan Rogov Class vessel. Getting the men from the landing ships to the Admiral T'blis was a logistical nightmare on its own, and two additional helicopters, one each from the Kresta II Class cruisers KNS Novanta and KNS Haslin, were ferrying men across to the carrier in preparation for the first wave of flights

Ops room, Fort Ironwall
The room was dominated by the large screen against the far wall, showing an overview of the island as a whole. Down both sides, a series of small screens flashed through various details. In the top right screen were details of the Northern Fleet, tracked but not within the area covered by the main screen. A variety of details, statistics and breakdowns could be summoned with a little as a single phase, but for the moment it simply showed the fleets status, its heading and speed.

"Give me details on the make-up of Northern Fleet, corporal." The base commander was standing in the centre of the room, staring at the screen, as if looking for something he knew was there but the computers didn't.

"Northern Fleet is presently assigned one Kuznetsov class heavy aircraft carrying cruiser, one Moskva class helicopter cruiser, one Kirov Class battle-cruiser, six cruisers of various class, four destroyers of various class, two Ivan Rogov Class amphibious warfare ships, six submarines of various class and three fleet auxiliary vessels, sir." The ensign sounded almost robotic, he looked almost robotic, now the commander came to think of it. Sat at the computer, fingers dancing quickly over the keyboard as he pulled up detailed information on the fleet. "Aircraft compliment aboard KNS---"

"Thank you, corporal, that's all." Sometimes it worried him that someone so far down the food chain knew so much about what was going on. Not this time though, he'd hand-picked his entire operations staff for this assignment. He knew and trusted them all. They'd die before they surrendered any information, but he doubted it would come to that on this forsaken piece of dirt. Unless, that was, the damned mosquitoes were planning to take the island from its current mammalian overlords. He chuckled at the thought before reading through the latest onscreen intel.

The 51st Infantry Division was mobilising along Stoklomolvi's southern border to obtain a piece of the road. Since the government of Stoklomolvi was fooled into buying a worthless piece of land, they decided to retaliate by killing off all armed peoples that were not Stoklomolvi. As such, the men grouped together along the Southern Front, where the Blackwater Redoubt was located. Scheduled at 0900 hours the next day the men were to march into the enemy territory and grab a piece of the road under the cover of heavy armour and artillery support.

0030 hours Easter Empire Border
The Easter Empires 12th and 54th infantry divisions had dug themselves into the harsh landscape that was their home. The barren desert provided a few plants here and there, but nothing enough to concel one man, let alone 20 000 troops and gear. The men were dug into high dunes and cliffs. The army units had been deployed for two months now, waiting for war to come.

0045 hours, 50 miles off shore

The Imperial Navy's 7th fleet were deploying around the capital city of Utah. The old ships were helplessly outclassed by the new naval ships being used by some other nations but they served their purpose. The collection of crusisers, destroyers, two battle ships and a singel Air Craft carrier laddened with 24 FA-52 fighter-bombers and 12 FA-42 long ranger interceptor craft. The fleet was never deployed for combat, but with the threat of war, all the crew members, new and old, were getting ready to do battle.

Fort Ironwall
The second wave of Arctic Wolves landed, clouds of dust being kicked up by the rotor-wash. It had been less than three hours since the order had been given to expedite the special forces deployment, and 384 fully armed and equipped soldiers were on the ground.

The helicopters dusted off and began the return leg, back to the carriers they'd departed from as several trucks carried the latest group to arrive back to the barracks blocks. The build-up was going to plan, and in just over nine hours, the base would be a hive of activity.

0600 Forward operations base for the Hunter Battalions.

The 257th research battalion was resting in the early morning dawn. The four hundred strong force was sent to defend the major highway leading to the city of Fauke. The reasearch battalion was comprised mainly of troops from the Empires genetic program, soilders who were bred to fight and geneticly modified. They towered over the regualr army, and were much fiercer fighters. They wouldn't give up the highway to Fauke, at least without taking out a good deal of troops with them.
