This is the Practice War OoC thread. Mentors can post suggests/comments on their students. Just trying to keep the IC thread clean.

Given the guidelines, my troops consist of 300 infantry, 150 Spider cavalry, and 50 hornet riders. Standard issue is sling and spear for now, with maces used for close combat by officers. Hornets are reconnaissance/surveillance only, as they are too valuable to risk. My troops suffer disadvantages in sunlight, so they'll try to make their gains in night fighting and reinforce their positions before dawn.
At this juncture, surprise and the unknown are my advantages. TG me for drawbacks beyond the obvious tech level I'm adopting.

Hm. Sounds like Chinese Army tactics in the Korean War. Nice first post by the way. I have nothing to complain about.

Wouldn't the main problem with slings and such be guns? Or is this a PT type war. I am a student by the way.

Clubs, chunks of rock and pointy sticks will kill you just as dead as 7.62 bullets can, the main problem would be range. If we can hit them out to 300 yards and beyond, how are they gonna get close enough to us to do any harm? The answer has to be tactics, and I'm interested to see how they're used to turn the tables. Afterall, unless your men are equiped with melee weapons and trained to use them effectively, CQB against those guys could end very badly.

By my understanding, this is a MT war, and Ordo's aware of this and wants to add more spice to his RPing by using limited tech. I could be wrong though.

He's gonna have some fun coming up with ways of dealing with aircraft, tanks and other high-tech (well, by his standards) equipment, but the man on the ground with a rifle in his hand would be in trouble if caught unawares.

Nope. It's MT.

Kalmurstan: Although you do not have to do it yet, an actual number of ships and types of your fleet is suggested, but since you aren't going to engage anyone yet, you can just say small, medium, or large, but when you actually prepare to engage an enemy, you will have to post exact numbers.

Okay so whoever doesn't post by tomorrow night is kinda going to be out of the loop. If they don't post in between my next post and my third post on the IC thread, then they're kinda going to be too left behind to do anything. If you're not posting because you're not sure what to do, just drop me a message here (on the OOC thread) or just telegram me.

The only reason I'm not posting is because I have no clue whatsoever where everything is due to the lack of a map; I seem to have misplaced the other sign-up thread, and now I don't even know where my country is.

Can I join the practice war with my 1950's era eastern bloc style conscript infantry company?

Feel the love-while the concern for my Stone-Agers is touching, I think the Zulu War and Italy's WWII Ethiopian campaigns show that guns are not always the "Great Equalizer". BTW, I did save the map on my computer-I've lost the sign-up thread myself, but I'll happily mail it to anyone who wants it.

Well when the Italians were in Absynia (Ethiopia) they did train the local population to use firearms, and were generally evicted by machinegun fire. But as far as the Zulu go, they definitly tooled the British despite their supreme firepower.

I don't know how wars here work at all. If I needed to sign up somewhere else, it might be too late for my infantry company to jump in. If it's not too late however, I would like a copy of the map so I can start building a firebase and sending out patrols.

I do apologize, but I'm too overtimed now, and have to let go of this thread-I do apologize, but I'm facing too many RL issues to take time and learn-I do apologize, and if another such thread becomes available, I will try to learn
