Maykop prepares for energy debate

MAYKOP, Adygea (CNN) -- Debates in Adygea over the country's energy situation once more come to the surface, just before colder weather comes in the North Caucasus country. Of primary concern is the rekindled question of whether nuclear energy will be incorporated into the country's power grid, while other options, such as wind energy or solar energy, are also supported.

Adygea, a former Soviet Socialist Republic, is entirely reliant upon its coal-fired power plants, which have become a topic of concern among environmental groups, citing that despite emissions controls enacted by the regional governments, an "unacceptable" amount of particulate matter still enters the air in Adygea. One option is to restrict the laws governing emissions, but one group in particular, the Clean Sky organization, the main party behind the clean energy movement, opposes this; a spokesman for the group said that "...that is not the road we wish to travel. It would be much preferable for us if the pollutants ceased, but that will not happen for some time; even so, we try to work as hard as we can to that end." When asked about nuclear power, he said that it was "a realistic option."

The debate is scheduled to take place on October 21sт, in Maykop.

Hello,
We would like to provide an energy map for your country of where optimum sites for different types of alternative energy might be introduced. We are prepared to site small scale hydroelectric with fish ladders to minimize river impacts, geothermal power stations, peak solar power locations, a wind map for optimal location of wind power plants, and an agricultural map which shows where switchgrass can be farmed on marginal lands or biogas can be produced from animal waste. This will not alleviate all of your problems, but will give you a start towards reducing your pollution levels and help you make sound decisions. If you wish we can also work on experimental wave turbine technology off your coastline. Hydrokinetic power is a very new form of energy and any work which we did would be experimental.

Regards,

Mimi Ohyes, Minister of Trade

Adygean Foreign Ministry

Minister Ohyes,

+++I thank you for your generous offer to aid us in plotting potential energy sources for Adygea, but after consulting with our Ministry of Energy on the status of our own energy surveys, we will have to decline. Both private and government-funded surveys of our land have already given more than enough data for use in planning the future of the energy grid.

Respectfully,
Foreign Minister, Republic of Adygea

To Motya Niyazov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Adygea

Stoklomolvi lauds Adygea's strive to build less polluting power plants. As such, Stoklomolvi will be willing to provide four of its smaller fusion power generators for the people of Adygea to examine. The fusion power plants in Stoklomolvi are all quite safe, and if Adygea does not wish to use Stoklomolvi's power plants then Stoklomolvi will be more than willing to just extend a high-tension power cable into Adygea.

Greetings, Mr. Motya Niyazov,
Thank you so much for your kind response. At Cruon Commercial House, Registered Cooperative Corporation, we can also offer other options for carbon mitigation. Two obvious choices are regular flue capture systems for carbon sequestration, the other is Green Fuel Technology which captures carbon and uses it to grow blue green algae. The algae can be burned as a cofiring product or processed into biodiesel.
Alternately we can upgrade your older coal plants with cogeneration-- steam and heat to produce more energy, and cofiring-- the ability to add biomass or garbage to the coal fired plant. This generally reduces the total amount of carbon released because not as much carbon is released from cofiring.

Regards,

Mimi Ohyes, Trade Minister

Adygean Foreign Ministry

To Minister Stuyonovich,

+++While I most earnestly thank you for your offer of fusion generators, I must inform you that a decision on nuclear and thermonuclear power has not been reached, and we cannot thus say 'yes' or 'no' to your proposal until then. It certainly shall, however, be kept in mind.
+++At the same time, Adygea would be glad to import energy from Stoklomolvi, but that is not the responsibility of the federal government. To set up a contract, please contact one of the power supply corporations in Adygea (http://nationstates.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Adygean_companies) [ed. note: incomplete].

Sincerely,
Foreign Minister, Republic of Adygea

OOC: What is your stance on oil and uranium?

[ The use of oil and gas is fairly common in Adygea, given how much it sits on. Fission power has been proposed, and is being considered, largely because of local studies and projections, but one of the major counter-arguments in Adygea is 'what will we do with the waste?' There's no massive amount of untamed land in Adygea, so any buried waste will have an impact on some community, somewhere. ]

[OOC: I've been to that wiki site a few times now, and I've noticed that it seems like you're the only one on that site. You could try moving to the other website, here. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)]

To Motya Niyazov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Adygea

The Stoklomolvi Department of Energy and Utilities will have contacted the corporation, "Unified Energy", to consider an energy contract between our nations. Fusion power is clean, reliable, and is compact.
