Name- Klatch
Race- Made up of many tribes and races. The cities are densely populated with a diverse mix of species. The tribes of the desert are made up primarily Slann (lizard men) who thrive in the heat. A large portion of the population is human.
Government- Klatch is less of a formal empire and more of a loose confederacy of city-states: The river cities, the northern coast cities, the western coast cities, and the southern states. Most regions are ruled by a hereditary monarch with democracy on a local level. However, some cities are pure democracies while others are oppressive military dictatorships. Disagreements sometimes lead to inter-city warfare and Klatch occasionally struggles to keep itself together.
Population- 5,500,000, roughly divided equally among the river valleys, coasts and desert tribes.
The Land of Klatch- Klatch can be divided into 4 climatic and topographical regions. The coasts are hilly with many inlets and coves which make good natural harbors. The river valleys are mountainous areas with deep depressions close to the river. The river, the Klach, floods regularly and deposits fertile silt into the river valley. The southern states dwell in a tropical climate and are surrounded by rain forests. And the mighty desert connects all these regions. The desert is incredibly large and incredibly inhospitable. Oasi are few and far between.
Economy of Klatch- Klatch bases its economy on 5 aspects: fishing, farming, mining, trade, and medicines. The western coast contains very high concentrations of fish. Fish is gathered using massive fishing boats crewed by hundreds of people. Fish are prized in the river valleys and the western coast often trades fish for the many different kinds of crops that are grown in the river valley. The fertile soil of the Klach lends itself to farming and the development of advanced irrigation has made almost yearlong farming a possibility which has led to a large food surplus. The northern coast has connections to (Europe?) and function as traders. The northern coast is very wealthy. The southern states have used their unique environment to their advantage by mastering the techniques of making medicines and salves. The southern states have many universities that focuses on medicine. The graduates of theses schools go to other parts of Klatch and work as doctors. The desert tribes make their living by mining the precious and practical minerals of the deserts. Mining operations are often huge and highly advanced affairs.
Armies of Klatch- The armies of Klatch are lightly armored and focus mainly on speed. The army is mostly cavalry with camel archers serving as the backbone. The bows and skill of the camel archers are envied worldwide.
