The Dogs of War (Open, ATTN AMF)

British Londinium

Kensington, British Londinium
13 Floréal 2014

Smoke rose steadily into the skies, whirling fleetingly around the Ministry of War offices in the Arch of Victory, a massive glass and marble hypercube near the major government offices within the City of Kensington. The flames from the igneous Freekish flags burning in the plaza could be seen from offices, bright orange speckles against the dark, forbidding backdrop of the Londinian capital. Occasionally, various chants calling for the immediate death of all Freekish nationals could be heard over the normal din of the city.

These protests were nothing new; comprising mostly university students and political activists, anti-AMF demonstrations had been occurring since the beginning of Vendémiaire and the so-called Purple Revolution deposing James Azzopardi. But today, on Commonwealth Day, the entire city seemed to be burning Dreadfire in effigy. Of course, Her Majesty's Government didn't mind one bit. Demonizing the enemy and incessant exultation of Londinian leadership was perfect. It would prepare the population for the extreme turbulence that would be occurring over the course of the next few weeks.

A complete legion, all two hundred thousand troops, in black dress uniforms, marched solemnly through the main thoroughfares of the city, with white-gloved hands clasping their assault rifles. War was on the air.

Peale Bay
Ganapatian Sea
36 km from Point Alpha-Foxtrot-Omega
15 Floréal 2014

The choppy, cold waters of Peale Bay, dotted with growing chunks of ice as winter rapidly approached, were now dominated by hundreds of ships, organized into three neat lines spanning from tip of the Pental Peninsula near Pembrey Beach to the Boreal Peninsula on which the grand cities of the Commonwealth were housed. Destroyers, frigates, battleships, submarines, coast guard cutters, and even three of the Royal Navy's superdreadnoughts, patrolled the area around Point Alpha-Foxtrot-Omega, the Ministry of War designation for Fort Miasma near Lixus. There were no declarations, no communiqués, no announcements, no proclamations. Just three solid lines of Royal Navy vessels, flags fluttering proudly in the stinging wind, with orders to deny any and all access to unauthorized vessels, most specifically all vessels hailing from a NATO port or ships suspected to be bringing supplies to the Freekish.

Somewhere amongst the vessels, the Symphony of the Commonwealth began to blare, its tune passing from ship to ship until every single vessel in the blockade lines began to trumpet the elegant euphony, as sailors braced themselves for yet another conflict. "Ex corona, æquitas! Semper vigilo! Semper paratus! Victoria aut mors!"

The movements certainly were not unknown to the Sentinel detachment stationed in British Londinium, for their inelligence units had the locations of every sizable military force in the country logged and monitored via satellite, though the actual signal was piggy backed amongst the countless orbital clutter of foreign satellites to avoid revealing which ones were feeding data below. The navel blockade was especially concering as several Freekish submarines were still in international waters preparing to deliver regular goods to the outpost discreetly.

I need a sit-rep, now. The Major who was in charge of the outpost paced about the underground intel room as date continued to stream in from the full sensor suite. Not much has changed Major, we have massed ships off the coast and reports of large troop clusters on the ground. Without a doubt they're planning something, there are too many factors here.

He turned to the large screens that were tuned in to local news stations, which showed images of mass anti-Freekish protests and a large parade of soldiers. The meager 2,000 strong Sentinel garrison would be no match against an all out assault, but the Londinium did not and could not know the dark nuclear secret that the outpost held. Secretly the underground command center tied all of its offensive systems into a single execution order via the on screen control panel, and upon the click of a mouse every auto-loading cannon would sound off and every fast missile would deploy. However, before it came to that the Major had sent out but a single transmission to the Londinium military.

We have taken notice of your exercises at sea and on land. Your ships are directly blocking our sea route and are therefore compromising our supply lines, and we demand an explanation. We would also like to remind Londinium high command that these actions are a violation of the peace treaty that was signed, as this is a clear provocation on your behalf. Therefore a quick response would be wise before misunderstandings are made.

Official Londinian Communiqué

Major Palmer:

The military operations within the Peale Bay are none of your concern, regardless of their proximity to Fort Miasma. Under the Treaty of Lixus in reference, the second clause, which you accuse Her Majesty's Government of violating, the exercise of Crown military power within Londinian waters is not prohibited in any way, shape, or form. The 'land operations' you cite are, furthermore, military parades used to celebrate the occurrence of Commonwealth Day. May I remind you, Mr Palmer, that no offensive military action has been, or will be, taken against Freekish forces within Fort Miasma.

Sincerely,
Dr Elliot S Crompton

Minister of War for the Londinian Commonwealth

Palmer still had a bad feeling, regardless of the response he received back. Fort Miasma was a dangerous place to be staging naval and land exercises near, and certainly the Londinium knew that they would be creating unwanted tension by doing so. He then decided, in an effort to see if the ships were hostile or a non-issue, that he would order a Freekish submarine to surface, enter British waters and move along its usual course to deliver supplies per usual.

Minutes later, one of the many Supremacy class nuclear powered submarines did just that. Slowly it raised itself to the surface and moved at cruising speed towards the fort. An open transmission was sent to the base as always that they were arriving to deliver a regular shipment of goods, and Palmer knew that it was being listened to. British port authorities were regularly updated as to the entering and exiting of Freekish supply craft from their territorial waters, as to not create an unwanted international incident.

However, an encrpyted message was sent to the submarine captain that something foul was afoot, and to remain vigilant at all times. If the British attempted to stop, turn back, or fire upon the sub, it would confirm his suspicions. But if it was allowed to pass, then it would at least calm the Major's nerves for a short time, though he would not be able to sleep comfortably at night until the British fleets were gone.

Freekish high command was also well aware of the situation, and intelligence agencies began notifying Dreadfire himself that there were wargames taking place dangerously close to Fort Miasma, and that the garrison there was on high alert. What would happen from here on out would be up to the British.

HMS Sir Alistair Davidson
Northern Line
Peale Bay

"Supremacy-class submarine, bearing mark nine three degrees and closing, sir," reported a radar officer grimly. "Surfaced, moving at around eleven knots."

Fleet Admiral Charles Dalton shook his head with a sigh. "Just what we don't need at the moment," he muttered to himself. Of course, he didn't have much of decision to be making at the moment. The War Ministry gave Dalton very specific instructions on how to handle a similar situation; though not even War Minister Crompton expected the Freekish to simply surface the sub.

The fleet admiral briskly strode over to a communications terminal and began broadcasting on an open channel.

"Attention, attention Freekish submarine," Dalton signaled. "You are in violation of Pragmatic Sanction XV. This is a restricted area. Turn back immediately by order of the Government of the Londinian Commonwealth, or be prepared to face the consequences."

The captain of the submarine was quick to respond over open airwaves, so those at Fort Miasma could listen in on the conversation. The tone was not confrontational, but very matter of fact.

Negative on that order. Freekish sub is on a regularly scheduled delivery course, and we will not halt. Interfering with our delivery route is not advised, we will proceed on to Miasma per our schedule your port authority is aware of, over.

With that, the submarine took its weapons systems and sensors offline as a further show of non-hostility, and continued on its course for the waters outside Miasma. Commanders at the base listened intently as the back and forth dialogue was exchanged, waiting to see what the British would do with the submarine. It was a common tactic during wartime to send critical supplies via submarine to small outposts in order to avoid losing transport ships, and since the Empire was still at war with Questers and Doomingsland, the Supremacy class subs were called upon to serve as re-supply craft.

The situation back in Automagfreek was tense as Alerick Fleshgrinder, the man who assaulted British Londinium during the last confrontation, sat at the head of a large oak table in the situation room inside the Great Hall. Being Azrael's most trusted friend and Deathklaat under his command, the imposing Alerick sat patiently and awaited the inevitable response from the British.

A simple transmission was issued from the superdreadnought serving as the fleet battleship. Cease and desist forthwith, and return to Freekish waters, it said. You are within Londinian territorial waters and will submit to the authority of the Crown.

One of the HMS Sir Alistair Davidson's massive turrets, with three thirty-two inch guns, swiveled into firing position, aimed in the general direction of the Freekish sub. With a deafening blast, three shells were fired well overhead the submarine, splashing violently into the seas a kilometer away. Hopefully, the demonstration would deter the Freekish. But Admiral Dalton would not take any chances. Two large motorboats tied to a nearby cutter detached themselves, and, manned by platoons of Royal Marines, headed toward the submarine. The company commander, from his position in the lead point, hoisted a megaphone and said curtly, Halt immediately and reverse course, or prepare to be boarded.

Azrael was furious.

He stormed about the situation room inside the Great Hall with a burning fire inside them that grew by the minute. You mean to tell me that they have not only fired upon us, but now they're tossing a list of demands my way like I'm supposed to give a shit?

Alerick sat quietly in his chair near the large screens that lined the northern wall of the room. He could feel himself sinking ever lower as the Regent continued barking and cursing not only the Londinium, but his own ignorance and lack of force in preventing this from happening in the first place. Azrael turned and glared at him viciously before stomping towards him and tightening his mouth so hard that his teeth nearly shattered. And what the fuck is your excuse Alerick, you're the one who was supposed to handle our operations in BL! Oh sure you're keen when it comes to cutting a man down in his tracks, but you have no fucking clue how to use the force of the invisible hand.

The One lingered silently above the room and watched as the events began to unfold, a grin crossing his putrified face as he watched Azrael become more and more like his father in ever passing moment. Good young one, the Dread Fires grow inside you...good.... He said in his head as he continued to monitor the situation. Now was not the right time to make his presence known in the discussion, but perhaps following the day's events he would approach the Warlord-to-be and have a long awaited discussion with him.

I want you to send a message to their government immediately.

~From the desk of Azrael the Advocate, Imperial Regent of the Excessively Armed Empire of Automagfreek~

Your arrogance and audacity do not amuse me in the slightest. You have the nerve to fire upon my ship, then send me some list like I'm supposed to give a fuck? You people forgot all too quickly that it was Automagfreek that gave you freedom, which you squandered. We have saved you from yourself one time too many, for it was AMF who stopped you from regressing into an imperialist nation once again by erecting Fort Miasma, but you people insisted on it.

You suddenly feel now that you are in a position to mock me and challenge me openly? For far too long Automagfreek has grown soft under a failing Dreadfire, and let me tell you that you've made the biggest mistake of your lives by thinking that I am any less terrible than Damien in his prime. If there was ever one thing my father taught me, it was to never let anyone so much as look upon you in a manner that displeases you without taking his head.

Cecilia, your treacherous act will not be allowed to pass, and for such insolence you will suffer both unimaginable pain and excruciating death until nothing but ash remains. Oh yes Cecilia, you have awakened a cold and terrible monster that should have been left to slumber, and now you will feel my wrath as I unleased Blood Feud upon thee. I will not rest, I will not stop until the last Londinian dies and all that remains of your existance is a forgotten and painful memory.

Sleep Now In The Fire.

Azrael the Advocate
-Imperial Regent of Automagfreek-

As the atmosphere continued to grow more ominous with each second, Azrael turned slowly to one of the operators who was monitoring the status of Fort Miasma before starting off towards him. The technician began to tremble ever so slightly as he approached from behind, and he could feel the Regent's eyes cutting through him as he was then pushed out of the way. Azrael took up the communications mic and depressed the mouse button on the 'Transmit' icon on the computer screen, and what was uttered next made the room fall deathly silent...

Fallen Divinity.

It was the code word that Major Palmer dreaded to hear, but he was handpicked for this special purpose, however suicidal it may have been. He promptly smashed down upon the glass encased red button that sat by its lonesome on the main control console, and immediatey an alarm across the entire fort sounded. Mere miliseconds later the thunder of the base's assorted artillery pieces began to shatter the silence as their rocket assisted nuclear shells were fired towards every city within their reach, each piece being reloaded and fired again in under 5 seconds as the large mainframe computer adjusted its aim after every shot. Fort Miasma had been crammed with hundreds of guns ranging from 20" to 155mm, and as each continued pouring forth a torrent of nuclear retalliation the fast response missiles took flight from their tubes. HOUND-S nuclear cruise missiles and speedy rocket propelled nuclear 'Scythe' missiles were fired en masse alongside nuclear ATACMS, NLOS-LS, and assorted MLRS batteries.

The larger HOUND V2's that were housed in seperate underground silos were also fired off, though they would most likely arrive at their destination too late, or be intercepted by whatever defense the Londinium could muster with such extremely short notice. The Sentinels that were above ground were already scrambling to their battlestations in order to attempt to intercept whatever inbound missiles came their way. The fierce and loyal fighters were prepared to die for their glorious Dreadfire without hesitation, for they knew deep inside their black hearts that many countless hoards of Londinium would soon die at their hands.

Miasma threw everything it had as quickly as it could against as many target locations within British Londinium as possible, knowing that it was only a matter of time before their own fate was sealed. A mind boggling amount of shells and missiles were already in the air within the first 15 seconds, though such a short period of time seemed like an eternity to the Major, who held up a picture of his wife and smiled as he spoke softly to her. Meanwhile, the submarine that had been fired upon promptly armed its SLBM's and self detonated them in unison, causing a boom so loud that it drowned out the hammering of artillery pieces and the hissing of missiles within the Fort. Outside Londinium waters, the several submarines that were still waiting for a situation report heard the codeword come over the radio waves, and they in turn fired their SLBM's as fast as they could, their targets being the Londinium cities furthest from the Fort so as to better lay siege to the entire country at once.

As the carnage began to unfold, Azrael ordered that every available ABM system within Automagfreek, its territories, and greater Gholgoth be on full alert. Ground, orbital, and airborne scanners were fully brought online in case by some sheer fluke the Londinium managed to fire off a few missiles of their own, most likely from foreign installations as BL itself was under massive siege within seconds and the confusion and panic generated by the mass nuclear attack would prevent a full level response. In fact, the Londinium had no knowledge that Fort Miasma was a nuclear outpost, as its construction and the transport of materials was painstakingly kept as secret as humanly possible.

How long the fort would last was anyone's guess, but the Major had prepared to detonate the massive stockpile under the base that exceeded a gigaton. With his full sensor suite and the assistance of Freekish satellites scanning for any inbound threat, he was prepared to do his duty to his nation, and to finally be reunited with his long deceased wife.

Almost as soon as the attack started a message was broadcast the the world concerning Azrael's decison to strike British Londinium down, though he would not be available for further comment.

******

People of the world, let it be known that on this day the ruler of British Londinium has made its last mistake and has sealed its fate. Long have we tried to assist them and show their country the proper path to peace and salvation, all of which has been squandered by a psychotic government that refuses to see the error of its ways. Automagfreek put its repuation on the line to give them a new beginning....and just as we cleansed the world of Fascist White States through Blood Feud for spitting in our face, we now cleanse British Londinium with nuclear vengeance. Once the fallout settles I will unleash the full fury of the Sentinels and Fallen upon what remains, and we will not stop until their lines are extinguished forever.

They had the audacity to directly assault a peaceful Freekish vessel delivering goods to sovereign Freekish territory, then issue us a list of demands citing what they will "allow" us to do. I say to you now that the days of complacency and decadance within Automagfreek are over, for on the eve of my accession to full and total power I hereby swear this oath; that those who dare to cross our path shall feel such pain and misery that it will be made legendary. The terrible days of old are back.

And let me say this to those who disapprove of my actions; mind your tongues, lest you lose them. Should any attempt to interfere in the administering of Blood Feud they too will be struck down in cleansing hellfire. It would serve everyone well to stand aside as we seek our retribution, for we will not be denied it.

-Azrael The Advocate

****

After the pre-recorded transmission was sent out, he cast his gaze upon Fleshgrinder, who had continued to make himself small in his chair for fear of Azrael's backlash. Instead the still fiery Regent pointed towards the door and lowered his eyebrows ominously. Get your ass over there and finish what was started. And don't disappoint me again Alerick, for that head of yours would make a fine lawn decoration.

Greetings,

See, we have noticed your declaration of war on British Londinium and we have also noted that we have investments in British Londinium.

Thus, we would like to know if it would be possible for Freekian troops NOT to destroy our factories and military base in the area.

If the answer is no, we ask that you give us some time to evacuate the area and any soviet citizens that might be in British Londinium.

We regret to inform your government that it is unlikely anything will survive the initial exchange, though we still do not have an up to date situation report. If your assets have not been destroyed, then we would advise leaving IMMEDIATELY before radiation poisoning sickens your people.

However if there was an unfortunate loss of Soviet citizens then know that as a just nation we are prepared to offer monetary compensation for the loss of assets and life, to go to both the state and the families of the victims. Our apologies and sympathies are also extended if this is the case, for Automagfreek's quarrel is with none save for British Londinium.

Vetalian Chamber of Commerce, Kensington (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bb/CitiBankICBCHongKong.JPG)

"We're done for, I know it...all of this, all of it lost!" The Chairman was on the verge of tears, his entire life crashing down around him further and further with each passing moment. Throwing down his copy of The Financier, of which the transcript of the Freekish broadcast occupied the entire front page, written in bold and threatening letters that hardly assuaged a frightened populace.

"Everything we own, everything we've built in this country...all of it, swept away by those bastards!" He swept his hand across the skyline of Kensington, which appeared almost like a model from the uppermost floor of the Chamber of Commerce Building.

"God damn them, why? What good will come of this other than the satisfaction of some insane fucking tyrant from Gholgoth? Hmm? What of it?! What will come of the deaths of millions of people and billions, no trillions of economic output destroyed? The big, bad Freeks showing their manhood by murdering the Londinian people and raping their land!" No longer able to hold himself back, he broke down and began to sob uncontrollably, shoving the papers off of his desk in a move of pure frustration.

The other officials in the room were silent, cringing in fear at the distressed emotional state of their superior. Worried he would do something rash, they had preemptively contacted security and watched nervously for his next move.

"Sir, if it's any consolation, the Vetalian government is going to compensate us for the losses..."

"Do you really think that's it? You stupid, stupid bastard...no, no, you're not at fault...none of you are." Breaking in to a manic chuckle, he continued, voice dripping with renewed anger. "Tell me, where did you come from, Deputy Chairman?"
"From Petrovsk, sir."
"And you, Settlement Officer?"
"From Xilare, sir."

"Isn't that quaint? A bunch of Vetalia-born bureaucrats, all of you...I bet this job was a lark, a great opportunity to get yourselves noticed back home. It doesn't mean shit, nah, just a quick jaunt for some overseas experience and that's that." Looking at them with an almost sadistic glee, he continued. "Let me tell you, friends, I was born here, in Kensington, and those billions of people out there are my fellow countrymen, even moreso than all of you! And they are all going to die for nothing! NOTHING!"

Sinking down in to his chair again, he stared resolutely, a silent tear running down his face as his emotions shifted again, to a deep sorrowful shame. "God, what have I become? All of you, please, just go...don't take anything I say personally. Just get out. Go, goddamnit, go..." After this, he sank in to an almost catatonic silence, broken only by the occasional indecipherable whisper.

The Deputy Chairman whispered to the Settlement Officer "His mental state is going downhill fast, Sergei. We need to get him out of here before he loses it and tried to kill himself...I'm sending in security." Pressing the emergency button hidden near the desk of every high-ranking Vetalian's office, it was only a matter of seconds before security guards busted open the doors.

"What's the problem here?"
"The Chairman is having serious emotional problems. We need your men to get him out of here and to the hospital...we can't risk him going suicidal or worse."

The chief security guard issued commands to the others with him, and radioed in the medical protocol to the main office. When they approached him to escort him from the premises, he went willingly, saying nothing and staring blankly forward as they led him away.

"Surely we have some sort of protocol for this?" Erika said, not letting any emotion be percieved, though terror mounted up in her quickly.

"The only set response for such a situation is MAD, Your Grace." the snivelling technician said, barely audible under his sobbing.

"That would only end us. No, use all satellites over British Londinium to shoot down as many nuclear missles as possible, and have a godrod ready to hit Fort Miasma. Piggyback the satellites to the British Londinian network. Though they are close allies, it's Vantania first." Erika responded, praying to Jupiter that both British Londinium and Great Vantania would emerge from this in one piece.

"As you command, Your Grace."

The technician climbed up, terrified at the task that was set out before him. Soon, the satellites were whirring about madly, disguised as Londinian satellites which were most likely reacting the same way. The Vantanians focused not on the jewel of Kensington, no, the missles would have hit by then. Instead, the satellites desperately tried to save the far flung cities the Freaks were attacking, for they might intervene in time. Meanwhile, like a grim soldier, the satellite carrying the godrod positioned itself over Miasma, ready to fire at an instant.

"My fellow Vetalians, as you know the nation of Automagfreek has initiated Blood Feud against our allies in British Londinium. Although our government is still in the process of debating what will happen in the future, I do wish to enunciate a proclamation that will be binding for all other nations beside the state of Automagfreek.

If any state thinks that it can declare war on British Londinium and ride the coattails of the Freeks, they are sorely mistaken. The Vetalian armed forces will slaughter any who attempt to invade the sovereign territory of our friend and ally and will not stop until we have driven your forces back to the ports and bases from which they issued."

"This, at the very least, is the solemn pledge we make to our friends and compatriots in British Londinium. We cannot comment on the situation with Automagfreek at this time, but our doctrine stands for all other states in this conflict. In addition, by my right as sovereign ruler of the Vetalian Empire, all citizens of British Londinium in territories under the administration of Vetalia are hereby granted full Vetalian citizenship."

Lord Sumguy's eyes widened as he read the Freekish decleration, and he slammed his fist on the desk in front of him. "Those fools! Their hubris and unwarranted aggresion shall now be the doom of their people!" He threw the file back on the desk, a sickened look on his face. The general sitting across from him spoke:

"Sir, I have mobilized a portion of our army, if we attack Sumatripte now, we can reclaim the land that the Londinians stole from us years ago."

The Hegemon laughed mirthlessly. "I thought that in your ten years of service you would have gotten to know me better, Alexander. An attack is entirely out of the question." He paused for a moment, and continued. "Open the borders with Sumatripte, allow any and all Londinian civilian vessels to enter the Empire."

"What? You would let them flee to the Empire? My Lord, they are vermin, deceivers and imperialists..."

Lord Sumguy jumped up, enraged, his chair flying into the wall behind him. "So you would let them die? Allow the slaughter of billions over a nationalist grudge!? You forget, sir, that we owe a duty to God and humanity that comes before any service to our nation! I will not stand by and watch as a people is destroyed, no matter what their government may have done!"

"Yes sir, I apologize. I will have the borders opened and inform the coast guard of your decision regarding civilian Londinian vessels."

"Thank you, you may leave."

Lard Sumguy sighed as he sat back down, having retreived his chair. When a man strikes your right cheek... He turned and began typing a message to the Londinian Empress:

I would remind you sir, that it was the Londinian government, not it's people, that has commited the various crimes for which they are famed today. The people are innocent, if misguided. I will not stand by and watch this despicable slaughter while i have power to prevent, or at least minimise the effects of it. If you should supend trade with us, that is acceptable, I would trade a few billion dollars for a million lives any day. My duty as Hegemon is to serve humanity, not pursue the intrest of my nation alone. I will not change my mind in this matter, and implore you to cease your own genocidal intentions. The Freekish shall commit atrocities and evils enough, do not stain your own hands with the blood of innocents.

Paranoia. Paranoia was the best, most concise word to define the Commonwealth and the people who populated it. When a Londinian had a headache, it was a tumour. When a Londinian was sick to his stomach, it was always an enemy trying to poison him. When a Londinian heard thunder crack, it was the sound of an enemy tank in the distance. It was a response mechanism, of course, the way for the Commonwealth collectively to deal with the immense animosity with which British Londinium was regarded. Naturally, then, when Fort Miasma was built in late 2013, every possible precaution was taken. Though the Ministry of Intelligence was incapable of calculating the full extent of the Freekish arsenal, it was naturally assumed by each and every member of the armed forces that as many nuclear weapons as possible were crammed into the tiny space allocated to the enemy.

The first line of defence were the scores of orbiting hydrogen fluoride lasers, positioned in a convenient ring around the primary landmass of British Londinium, with several dozen more scattered above the various colonies of the Empire. Within milliseconds of the missiles being detected, their beams energized, bathing the long-range missiles aimed for the main population centers in a destruction beam of laser energy, prompting them to explode harmlessly en route to their targets.

The second line of defence was another ring of satellites, these being space-borne missile batteries, which fired slews of anti-ballistic warheads down to intercept remaining missiles.

The tertiary line of defence was a series of Boeing YAL-1 early-stage ABM aircraft, each armed with three oxygen iodine lasers; they effortlessly destroyed the legions of HOUND missiles heading into the sky.

The most difficult ordinance to intercept, of course, were the nuclear artillery, which were intercepted only by land-based missile systems and more powerful, larger versions of the CIWS systems found on naval vessels.

The major population centers were spared, but Zuclo, Berytus, Velletri, Queensferry, Orzivechi, Decapolis, Terricola, Wæclingacæster, Fæsulæ and Trivolzio were vapourized in an instant. Millions dead within a heartbeat. Tons of ash flew into the already dark skies of the Commonwealth, and slowly began to settle on Kensington. Much of the ash was not only dirt and vapourized debris, but human remains. An uneasy silence fell over British Londinium, interrupted only by coded radio chatter between classified military installations and the dispersion of anti-radiation nanobots within Kensington proper.

Associated Press - In other news, the tiny, insignificant Third World Nation of Twoyearslateistan has declared war on Automagfreek, citing the fact that "all the cool kids are doing it". The leader of Twoyearslateistan, Generalississississississimo El Presidente M. L. Fegjaelof, confidently stated that the nation would be supported by such allies as Hogsweat, Praetonia, Sarzonia, Melkor Unchained, and a wide variety of other nations similarly opposed to the actions of the Excessively Armed Empire. "The vile Freeks shall be crushed under the wheels [sic] of our mighty T-22s!" Generalississississississimo Fegjaelof reportedly stated, to wild applause from his 40 loyal sycophants.

When local press reminded Generalississississississimo Fegjaelof that Hogsweat had ceased to exist in a large nuclear explosion, Sarzonia was almost completely inactive, Melkor had been driven out of Arda and the new government was favourable towards Gholgoth, and Praetonia was otherwise engaged, the Generalississisissississimo had no comment. Twoyearslateistan, which has a total population of 971,863 and is apparently entirely landlocked, has never participated in a major war since its participation in the Amerigan Slaver War in 2005, at which time the nation of Amerigo itself had ceased to exist.

"I believe," the old man said, his hand trembling ever so slightly as he returned the red phone to its hook, "that a statement will be called for.

Hassan Kamal looked up at a wide screen on which the Vetalian Emperor was just concluding his speech.

"Please inform the Denomination of Morale that I will need to address the nation and the world." he said, running one hand through his pocket as if searching for something. Pencil stub, eraser, keys... a slip of paper.

He pulled it out and unfolded it, glancing over the codes neatly printed there. Not, of course, that he was going to do anything stupid in defense of a nation which, in his opinion, had asked for it. They were only tertiary levels of authorization anyway; the President was only third in line in the nuclear command chain, after the Central Command Executive and his replacement. Beirut, Palæstina
2200 hours

The convoy of naval boats finally reached the piers of the grandiose city of the "Crown Jewel of the Commonwealth", Beirut, arguably the grandest of all colonial capitals. The Londinium were obviously unprepared for the intensive nuclear strike, as was witnessed by the carnage that had unfolded from the initial bombardment. The larger munitions were being targeted by enemy air and space assets and were largely rendered usless since they were not able to get up into their terminal phase, but the Major didn't care...everything had to go.

The continuous hammering of nuclear artillery was directed towards whatever city, military base, or large concentration of hard/soft targets remained. The underground computers continued aiming the auto-loading cannons in different directions at differing altitudes in order to create as much damage as possible. HOUND-S nuclear cruise missiles were still being directed towards targets out of range of the artillery and MLRS fire, and the newly developed weapons snaked stealthfully and very closely to the terrain around them, hugging the deck as low as possible to evade detection....though with the immense confusion and fog of war, it was very unlikely that they would be detected.

The immense EMP discharge from the assorted nuclear explosions were likely to disable whatever air assets were unfortunate enough to get caught in the radius, which Palmer only hoped would allow more of his MLRS to get through and create more damage. With each nuclear explosion that rocked Londinium, it would inevitable become that much more difficult to stave off continuing barrages of ordnance, and Palmer would try to exploit this as much as he could before detonating the over a gigaton stockpile he sat on. If the above ground barrages wouldn't do British Londinium in, then the ungodly blast from such an absurdly large amount of nuclear weapons would do the trick.....and probably upset other nations who might catch the fallout.

But for now he concentrated on directing as much firepower onto his enemy as he could via his artillery, which he hoped would open up a large enough radius around the base that MLRS would be able to advance further into the heart of British Londinium without being shot down. With his several hundred guns still churning out a shell every 3 to 5 seconds, he did not expect much within cannon range to be standing. Thus he began to fire shells at the naval craft parked in a blockade near where the lone Supremacy class self detonated. The damage from that suicide attack was not known, but whatever vulnerabilities the multi-megaton blast opened up, the artillery would exploit.

It seemed like forever and a day had passed since the attack had commenced, but in reality it had a relatively short period of time. With no immediate retalliation against his position, he was content to continue to rain nuclear hellfire down upon his foes. As the ordnance continued to be spewed forth, Kensington itself was already likely doused in heavy radiactive material, but would still find itself under siege by HOUND-S nuclear cruise missiles as well as short range ballistic missiles that did not need to go high into the atmosphere in order to detonate and wreak havok. Tracking such objects under optimal conditions would prove difficult enough, but with a nuclear holocast unfolding the odds were much greater that the already stealthy cruise missiles and the lightning fast SRBM's would find their targets.

Meanwhile, the intensive SLBM fire from Freekish Supremacy subs continued against Kensington, and every major city, airfield, and military base in the north and south of British Londinium. Combined with Palmer's crazed land attack, it would be a quite a tall order for anything to weather such a storm, or at least that's what Freekish high command hoped as they watched via satellite at the destruction unfolding below. Azrael was informed that Alerick's forces were beginning to be assembled for a land attack, though it would take awhile to mobilize and equip every soldier for fighting in a highly radioactive environment. The salted munitions that were mixed into the assault would leave behind such high radioactive levels that it was very likely a good portion of those left alive would simply perish from radiation poisoning, so Azrael did not feel a massive ground campaign would be required.

But Palmer knew there would be no rescue, so he continued firing off each gun without pause until they could fire no more. Each missile battery and silo would be cleared of projectiles as fast as possible, though Sentinel ground crews worked as fast as humanly possible to continue feeding the tubes with ordnance. The strike was not yet over, and would not end until either the base's sensors detected an inbound strike that could not be defeated, or until such time the Major decided to throw in the towel, which would not be any time soon if he could help it.

"Chairman Ustinov, visitors..." A nurse announced cheerfully, opening the bay doors that sealed off his bedroom from the halls of his palatial house on the outskirts of Vetalia City. He turned, pausing to set down his coffee and put on one of his robes, an elegant black and gold one made from cashmere and silk imported from distant Daehanjeiguk.

Turning to face his visitors, it was clear he was a changed man. Although the stresses of the past few days were visible, he was nonetheless more alive, with a quiet strength that had not been there during times of peace.

"Sergei..."
"Yes, it's me, Chairman. Settlement Officer Gordunov would have come with me, but he's currently testifying before the Senate for our proposal..."
"Our proposal?"
"Yes, didn't you hear? The Senate is reviewing whether or not to back Londinian denarii and to transfer as much of their foreign exchange to the Vetalian banking system as a protective measure."
"No, I haven't been keeping up do date these days..." He smiled, a rare sign that his humor was returning.
"Yes, I wanted to let you know we're all still here for you..."
"I've known that all along. Now, let's see what this whole mess is about."

Turning on his flat-screen wall TV, the room filled with the bustling sounds of VNBC, the main financial news channel in Vetalia. It suddenly cut to an alert, panning in on a group of officials exiting the Senate and massing around a podium for a press conference.

"By a vote of 339-221, the Vetalian Senate has authorized the extension of government support for the Londinian denarius in the wake of their conflict with Automagfreek. By a vote of 302-248, the Vetalian Senate has also authorized backing of all Londinian deposits by the Vetalian Deposit Insurance Corporation..."

It briefly cut to the trading floors of the VCSE and VMEX, which had suddenly exploded in to a cacophony of noise as traders began to process a deluge of new orders. The denarius started to climb and Londinian shares began to recover from their lows of the previous two days, with sector after sector climbing in to the green.

"We did it..." Neither of them felt more was necessary, and simply stared at the screen watching the situation recover before their eyes.

Omar Pace sat in the command and control center of Avalon, the Empire's provincial capitol in Gholgoth. He was monitoring the movements of his fleet, issuing orders to various commands.

The leader of the Brotherhood turned away from a screen as he heard one of his aides behind him. "General Pace?"

"Yes, what is it?" The aide handed him a paper and promptly made himself scarce. The report spoke for itself...

"British Londinium..." He muttered, reading the paper carefully. It wouldn't do to miss any small detail in the report. The text made his face go pale...

"Full alert! All anti-missile batteries in the Empire are to be armed immediately! Bring our nuclear stockpile online and prepare to launch within two minutes of the fire command." All work ceased for nearly two seconds as the men and woman around him processed that the Empire had gone from tense and watchful to the brink of nuclear war in a matter of seconds. Then they became a flurry of activity, codes and counter codes flying as the extreme measures were brought online.

In the center of it all, Omar stood perfectly still, staring at the sheet of paper as if it could feel his anger. "Prepare the third and fifth fleets. Dispatch them immediately to British Londinium waters and tell them to send any ship that attempts to halt them to the bottom, no matter who it is. And don't bother to pick up any survivors."

The third and fifth were the closest to the newly formed warzone, able to form into an armada along the way and arrive in force within fifteen hours at the tops speed of the slowest craft. They had half a dozen Blackjacket class assault ships, two Brotherhood class carriers, enough cruisers, frigates, destroyers to make a WWII admiral proud and a dozen Supremacy class submarines.

"It's started, then..." The Emperor said little more as he watched the largest Vetalian overseas deployment in the country's history prepare to move out both to defend Londinian colonies as well as to bolster the country's own overseas territories. Behind him, the signs of a nation preparing for war were visible. Fortifications idle for decades were reopened, new defenses installed, and vast construction sites marking new strings of defensive fortifications were a clear sign of preparations for a war that was coming closer to home than any in the past. The din of construction, overseen by stern Home Guard soldiers, was now a day and night affair mere days after the initial attack. In the distance, the endless rocket payloads going in to the sky carried huge quantities of equipment, upgrades and expansion for the country's missile defense system...a chilling reminder of the power of modern war. Even in the colonies, the situation was the same. The country's palatial cities were marred with the ugly defenses necessary to hold off enemy attack, and the streets were now routinely patrolled by soldiers. The wealthy spent vast sums constructing private bunkers to hide themselves and their treasures, while the middle and lower classes simply watched nervously as the situation developed...the entire nation was edgy like it had never been before.

10 million soldiers, 1,200 combat ships...the greatest armada the country had ever assembled, split in to 10 field armies and 10 task forces and dispatched to defend the Londinian frontier against its enemies. They were not sent to fight the Freeks, not yet at least...that would be a task no Vetalian would undertake alone. For now, their concern was defending against the smaller threats against the Londinian nation and ensuring only one front was open

Seven would sail for the Londinian territories: one for Tasmania, one for Océanie, one for Britzkium, one for Berincia, and one for Geluastralia. Two would sail for Palæstina to defend the capitol and the government, while the remaining three would patrol the Vetalian border and act as a reserve for the other forces. Behind them stood the rest of the armed forces, who would remain at home to defend Vetalia, and behind them stood the Vetalian Home Guard, which was the last bastion of defense against foreign threat.

It was uneasy, this phony interbellum...the Freeks had made their move, and now things were caught in uneasy silence while both sides postured their forces. The hope at this point was that, no matter what the Vetalian nation would remain secure from harm. That was every Vetalian's first priority, that their home would never be threatened by external aggression, and it remained to be seen whether or not that would ultimately be upheld.

Yeah! All right! Automagfreak, you'll get a medal and/or chocolate for this. About time.

The small patrol boat glid steadily across the surface of the water; from above, perhaps, it looked a peaceful scene, but for the two men atop the patrol boat it was anything but. The seas were a bit choppy, and Lieutenant Zorgorash had already been seasick twice; he turned to his neighbour, Vice-General Smitty, and murmured, "How do they look?"

Smitty glanced at the other patrol boats, the missile boat and the sole minesweeper that constituted the First Grand Fleet of the Democratic Dictatorship of Twoyearslateistan. "Great, same as ever. This is a Grand Fleet to be proud of."

"You never read my memo, did you?" Zorgorash said sleepily.

"'Course I did. I always read your stuff, for the comedy value."

"The Freeks have two people for every dollar we have in our national treasury, Vice-General. They have obliterated a dozen nations from this earth, each one many times the size of Twoyearslateistan. We're all doomed, dooooooomed." Zorgorash yawned and stretched.

"Haha. They're spineless cowards!" Smitty decided. "Hiding behind their larger military, counting on it to do their work for them! Well, lieutenant, I'll tell you this. I didn't become Vice-General of the Grand Twoyearslateistani Army for nothing! I'll teach those Freeks a lesson they won't forget. I can just imagine the look on Dafeur Dreadmine's face when we march into his throne hall!"

"Damafine Deadfire, I think. And isn't he in Daningslood?"

"Don't you mean Dooningslam? Anyway, I shall personally fly him back just in order to see the expression on his face!"

"Riiiight."

Unaware that they were sailing in completely the opposite direction from Automagfreek, due to a navigational error and the lack of a national intelligence department, the 'First Grand Fleet', seven ships strong, sailed off towards distant battle; towards history. Or at least until they ran out of supplies.

To help otu in the war, The Small Ryou Air Force, which was to start building up, was to start off the war with a Air Attack on Tasmania, targeting any Military bases on the Island.

300 B-52s and 600 MiG-29s were fueled up and read to go, as the order was given to start Operation: Black Hand. The Planes soon went up to start the Campaign against British Londinium.

Allies and friends,

Today the Excessively Armed Empire has begun firing upon the nation of British Londinium with nuclear weapons. We advise you to take highest precautions while a course of action is determined.

Courage, brothers.

Encrypted Communique to Londinian Government-in-Exile

Cecilia II Wellington and Dame Davidson, Ph.D:

We humbly ask that you relocate your government to an out-of-the-way Akimonadi colony. We fear for your safety in Palestinaea, isolated as it may be. The doors of Akimonadi Antarctika stand open.

Open Declaration

We urge the Freeks to reconsider their actions. This dispute could have been solved easily in a diplomatic setting.

Command Bunker One Alpha, Undisclosed Location

Dr. Hodz yawned. He had, after all, been pulled from his bed by Ministerial Guards after the Freeks began their strike.

His first act was to mobilize just about everything. Silos of ABM missiles sat silent, opened and prepared to defend at a moments notice. Reservists were called up to serve. Fighters, Bombers and Maritime Patrol Bombers flew constant patrol. Akimonad's system of laser defense, godrod and intelligence satellites were activated. Surveillance satellites were shuffled over to any Londinian and Freekish assets. Coast Guard patrols were authorized to detain or sink any vessel.

The next move was to prepare a fleet of civilian passenger vessels and evacuate as many Akimonadi citizens as possible.

Cruise ships, ferries, cargo ships... anything that could hold people was collected into the ragtag fleet.

They were sent out, flying Red Crosses in the absence of Imperial Standards.

Open Declaration

We are sending out a fleet of ships to evacuate Akimonadi citizens in British Londinium. Firing upon these humanitarian vessels will be deemed an act of war and will elicit furious response.

-Vetalian fleets are already in place in the Vetalian colonies-
-The Vetalian fleets will arrive at Londinian colonies in three days-

Viceroy Antyuhin watched quietly as the Vetalian fleet moved in to position to defend Tornus. Across the island, the beautiful resort hotels and vacation homes were turning in to fortresses, with anti-aircraft emplacements and artillery batteries filling the otherwise languid tropical streets. A mass exodus of tourists was turning the hotels and casinos in to a ghost town, and the bulk of the island's population was rapidly mobilizing in to the Yarkai Home Guard...

The same scene was repeated across the Vetalian Empire. Bureaucrats walled themselves off in their palaces and offices, soldiers patrolled the streets, and citizens labored day and night to upgrade their defenses and volunteer for service in Home Guard units. The country was mobilizing at breakneck speed for the greatest war in its history.

The underground bunker's lighting systems flickered, casting a sickly, weak yellowish light on the assembled military personnel. They could feel the facility shake slightly each time the enemy shells fired into the sky. A complete regiment of soldiers, the Omega Regiment, was stationed in the bunker, and they rapidly procured their weapons and supplies from the armoury. There was business to be done. Their last orders from Kensington - Beirut, rather, but the signals were rather cleverly disguised - were to begin the assault on Fort Miasma. Its existence meant that millions more would die with every passing moment. Already, twelve million Londinians had been killed - and countless more would die from the immense radiation.

In perfect, coordinated harmony, three thousand soldiers began their march on Fort Miasma, covered by waves of cruise missiles, rocket artillery barrages, naval shelling, and, best of all, nineteen kinetic bombardment projectiles.

Official Londinian Communiqué

To the people of the world:

Today, on 15 Floréal 2014, the nation of Automagfreek launched a vicious attack on the cities of the Commonwealth, killing twelve million individuals instantly. Mr Dreadfire, though, is not content with this slaughter. He will not stop until every man, woman, and child residing in the Commonwealth and her colonies is a corpse. All over a simple dispute over territorial waters.

For too long, Automagfreek has imposed its will on the people of the world. For too long, countless trillions have had to live in fear of Mr Dreadfire's uncontrollable nuclear warfare. Say what you will about British Londinium; we do not deny the atrocities committed in the past. But it is countries like British Londinium - countries dedicated to equality and personal liberty - that stand in valiant defiance of the barbaric hordes of Automagfreek. If it were not for nations that choose to stand up to the Freekish menace, we would all be slaves of the crazed Mr Dreadfire.

I call upon the nations of the world to band together under the common banner of prosperity to take down the Freekish menace, to protect over two billion innocent lives, to ensure freedom and liberty for the world. I, for one, will not rest until every trace is purged, liberated, and, if need be, blasted of the face of the Earth.

May Aequitas look after us all.

The air was cold and frigid as the fleet closed northward. Praetor Iruunik himself, a newly elected High Consular, stood firmly atop the observation deck, just above the command bridge his newly proclaimed flagship; the ARTAU-NUMC-200315A, or less formally known as the ‘Nest of All Things Evil’, and even less formally as ‘N.A.T.E’. Christened by one of the Toori’s more… colorful… Consulars, this Shield class ‘floating platform’ was just one vertebra that made up the backbone of what naval forces the Toori had. One of the strangest naval units on the planet, the Shield class was essentially a massive floating shield that sat atop the waves. Due to its extremely wide displacement, and that it was assisted slightly above the water by five hydrofoils, it had an extremely weak signature on sonar sensors of most types. It was also rather flat, making it extremely hard to find by just looking over the horizon. The Shield class platform served mainly as a massive aircraft carrier for the Toori, though it could be outfitted with many variations to serve as massive munitions launching platforms, or for civilian purposes. The NATE in particular was outfitted as the carrier variation, and though Iruunik did not care for the name it had been aforced, he was content with the power it was able to summon.

A massive Toori fleet that had been amassed, consisting of the following units, had split off into two task groups: Task Group West, which was currently vectoring north just west of the Aleutian Islands, and Task Group East, which was west and northbound of the coast of Calizornistan.

-14x- Iowa II class Heavy Battlecruiser (exclusive Toori refit)
-10x- Shield class Aircraft Launch and Recovery Platform Variation (V-ALRP)
-1068x- Toori Stealth Corvette
-340x- Essex II class Utility Aircraft Carrier (exclusive Toori refit)
-40x- Skjold class patrol boat
-40x- Hamina class missile boat
-15x- Hobart class destroyer
-50x- Frazier Class Stealth Corvette
-1247x- PB-108 Gunboat
-1740x- PB-107 Patrol Boat

Praetor Iruunik personally command Task Group East, while Prelate Hausilous commanded Task Group West until Admiral Warfrog and the South Lizasaurian fleet arrived. The Toori had already mentioned their intentions previously, so there was no need for an official declaration of war. But one thing was certain; the Toori was shoving its sizable boot up British Londinium’s northernmost ass: Berincia.

The Crimm

OOC: Stop this meaningless bullshit now, folks. Let's TRY and keep this serious.

--------------

Omar Pace was not a happy man. "Dammit... why in God's name do we always have to be outnumbered a hundred to one?! Someone explain why all these nations all think that having half a million ships sailing towards one little peeon nationis cost effective!" Exaggerating, of course... but his staff got the point and did the only sane thing. They tried to make themselves invisible through sheer force of will.

"Order the Fourth fleet away from Africa. Tell them all ships go to flank speed, even if it causes the fleet to break up. We need more ships..." He glared at an image of troop ships. "And Civils."

Even with these upped numbers, the Crimm armada would be on the defensive. The Civils that the fleet commanded were bred for war, quite literally. They could handle more radiation than a normal human, but this conflagration would most likely shorten lifespans of the already short lived warriors considerably, even with APCs made for fallout conditions.

He looked at the situation map and scowled as he muttered to himself. "Perhaps Damien will see me in a different light if I manage to extract the Sentinels at Fort Miasma through that hellfire." It was a long shot, but it could be done. It would mean contacting the Freeks inside the base and telling them to open a corridor in the bombardment, which might pose a problem with the radiation distortion.

He raised his voice. "Contact the Freeks on a priority coded channel and inform them that the Sentinels unleashing hell all over British Londinium are not going to survive long enough to be extracted by Freek forces, if the thousand odd ships heading towards them have a say. Men like those at Fort Miasma are exactly the kind of men this world needs and leaving them to die by the hand of an air assault or their own hand is not an option. I intend to hold off the naval assets heading towards them and launch a force to extract the Sentinels manning that base. If you have any way to signal them through the mess they're making... tell them that in..." He paused to check the status. Five hours out. "...six hours, there will be Crimm APCs heading towards their location from the nearest beaches. At that time, we will need them to open a wedge in the bombardment so that we can advance in and extract them. Accept no answer from the Advocate that is not positive. Crimm consider the Freeks to be our closest ally. We will not sit by and watch men that loyal die when we have the means and the balls to save them."

==========

A Civil Major glared at the orders that had come into the troop ship CSS Blackjacket mere minutes before. "Make a beach landing, most likely under fire, drive an armored force through a nuclear hell to Fort Miasma and extract the Sentinels responsible for the nuclear hell back through enemy fire to safety..." He spit on the deck. "I'd rather rip the bastard's spleen out and show it to him as he twitched." Several other Civils nodded in agreement. That being said, not one even thought of disobeying the orders. They were loyal through and through, but that didn't mean they had to like or agree with every order that came down the pike. Merely that they followed them to the best of their abilities.
Vetalia
17-10-2007, 02:15
Still some distance away, the Vetalian fleet headed for Berincia was aware of the potential for a major enemy counterattack and radioed in a request for additional support from the second fleet making its way towards Vetalian Cazelia and they began moving towards each other to unite and form a solid front against any potential Calizorinstan forces.

When combined, their forces would be 2 million soldiers and 300 combat ships strong, in addition to the thousands of armed troop transports and supply ships that could be called in to service if necessary. They were also supported by numerous carrier based aircraft and the sheer firepower of the dreadnought flagships that were leading each task force.

Moving forward at full speed, they were only a day or two at the most from Berincia...it would be the first battle of the war if things remained on their present course.

"Well, the Jupiter's fury has been unleashed on Fort Miasma, now what?" a general asked in the Map Room, British Londinium highlighted as the military council debated.

"Simple. We launch a full scale military against the bastards. They wouln't know what hit them, and Gholgoth will be the Sceptre of the Empire." said General Sol, pounding his fists on the railing, his face turning a deep purple.

"Sol, do not be a fool. Such a campaign would lead to the destruction of our military, our economy ruled by Vetalian Powdernoses, and our nation in the shackles of the Freakish Goths." the Supreme General, Litalia, said, waving him off before cotinuing, "The most reasonable response is to mount a military campaign against the secondary foes, all these tiny nations that seem to have appeared from nowhere, to keep the Londinian's focused on the Gothic hordes. Vetalia has already taken the initiative, and mounted a fleet to protect Londinian colonies. I suggest we do the same, shoot the bloody voltures from the air and burn their corpses."

"I agree, Litalia. I will personally be placing you in charge of this campaign, and I expect no less then your best performance during the Great Vantanian Rebellion. Draft the humanbreds, reactivate the Geneforge, call back the Altered, and draft the purebreds. Prepare the nations defences, particularily in the colonies. Reinforce the Londinian colonies. And, challenge the Freaks to a duel in the Arena of Champions." the Empress commanded, waving off the generals to their duties as she remained, glued to the realtime holographic globe.

IC:

So, as the Imperial Goddess Prima had declared it, so it was. The fleets departed, from Imperial holdings closest to their Londinian comrades. The East Indies colonies moved to defend the Londinian East Indies, the Hudson Bay colony of Wintermore to protect Berincia, and so on. The Altered were those that used to Geneforge to become Homo Superus, with all around enhanced abilities, if not a short temper and near insanity. The humanbreds, the infertile halflings that were in so much greater quantity were also called, and their brothers the purebred, also infertile, were also sent to the periphral front. British Londinium had a friend.

The Vetalian fleet was now in secure communications distance of Berincia, sending out a signal that they were requesting permission to enter Londinian territorial waters. Once approved, they would cross the border and head directly to the colonial capitol for further redeployment to key defensive lines across the territory.

The fleet arranged itself in to its optimal landing formation, with the huge numbers of supply ships and troop transports shielded by the ring of combat ships to prevent against any potential threats. From a distance, it was a massive wall of white and silver that gleamed in the cool oceans of the North Pacific, an intimidating force that would significantly bolster the defensive capabilities of the Londinian forces. The Vetalian Empire had arrived in Berincia and would not leave until it was certain there was no threat to the province by foreign troops.

The second fleet from Vetalian Cazelia was still a day behind the initial fleet, but once the first had arrived in port it would rapidly catch up and deploy alongside the initial forces.

Cleared for entry, the fleet entered Londinian waters and set sail for Cook, capitol of Berincia. As they moved, the high command pored over maps of the region, noting sites of potential strategic interest for future deployment. Morale improved noticeably as the troops caught sight of land and the extensive defensive infrastructure the Londinian forces already had in place, and by the time the capitol was visible the entire force seemed charged with renewed enthusiasm.

To the high command, however, this enthusiasm was concerning. The soldiers dispatched on this position had not seen combat in a considerable amount of time, and many believed that this assignment was going to be easy and free of any real combat or danger. This would prove to be a major source of trouble if it became clear that the Calizorinstani government planned a full-scale invasion of the province in retribution.

At the same time, however, the situation was considerably better than other fronts. The lands of Berincia were wild and rugged, with many potential chokepoints and ideal defensive positions. It would be a struggle for offensive forces to operate, especially when winter arrived and the lands were frozen under thick snow and ice. It was hardly a picnic for the defenders, however, given the distance from other friendly forces and the long supply lines that would be needed to keep the troops well-equipped through the coming campaign.

Now only miles from Cook, the fleet greeted the Londinian command in Cook and the signal was sent across the fleet to prepare for docking.

"What is the current situation on military preperations?" Emperor Falucia said, looking at the various tactical maps and reports flowing into this office.

Military Executor Xecr Nist stood up, straightening his gleaming white uniform, and walked to the front. He then clicked a small button, activating a holographic map.

"Well, Emperor, sir, you can see deployment efforts are at one hundred percent. We will begin forward deployment, immediantly. In regards to Naval deployment, the Imperial 1st Fleet, which was on a forward training mission, will be re-deployed to the British Londinium."

Emperor Falucia nodded, approvingly, while adjusting his Imperial Robes. "In regards to enemy movements, any information on that?"

Director of Imperial Intelligence, Ysanne Isard, interrupted. "Our satellites, have detected a large number of vessels, moving towards British Londinium. While we, initially, had a hard time confirming who they were; we can confirm, they belong to Vetalian, in origin"

Ysanne Isard walked around the large metal table, passing the intelligence report to Emperor Falucia and Executor Nist.

Falucia skimmed through the report. "Just great, now we will have to deal with them as well. Therefore, I suggest before we deal with the British Londinium, we secure the seas and disrupt any plans Vetalia has, at the moment. With that being said, you are dismissed."

Executor Nist and Director Ysanne Isard both stood up and saluted the Emperor before departing.

Admiral Cody stood on the command deck, speaking to his adjutant about the current naval exercises and how successful they had been. "Aye, begin the trip back home, we all deserve a rest." he said as he looked over the various situation report computers.

As he began to walk to his private quarters, his adjutant stopped him. "Admiral Cody, we have a secure video transmission from Imperial Centre, from the Military Executor, himself.'

Aye, I will recieve speak to the Executor, in my personal chambers, thank you for alerting me."Cody said, before departing.

Inside his personal chambers, he walked forward to a small video screen. He pushed the button, and the Executor's face appeared.

"Admiral Cody here, reporting for duty Executor Xicr Nist." he said, standing at full attention.

"Admiral Cody, as you are the only fleet in the area, you will be deployed to the British Londium to assist our allies. As I expect you meet powerful opposition, on the way, I am hereby upgrading your fleet to a Priority Fleet."

Admiral Cody continued to look on, standing firm. "Thank you, Executor, I will not fail you."

The Executor quickly replied, "I trust you will not, High Admiral Cody, good day"

After the transmission ended, Cody quickly pressed the comlink system, and alerted bridge command. "Bridge Command, this is High Admiral Cody, set destinations for British Londinium. Full speed"

Regarding the Automagfreek-Londinian Affair

Kampfers has maintained a certain air of neutrality in this conflict, and it is probably best that they have done so. The Kampferian government has not experienced the best of relations with the Freeks in the past, but the same is true if not even more so for the Londinians. Although the Londinians call out to the good graces of the world, and appeal emotionally, it was they who attempted these same feats in Cazelia, such to the point that the government had to beg on its hands and knees to save the lives of millions of civilians. While not under the same leadership, the attitude and actions of the Londinians have remained the same, be it the repeated attacks on Cazelia, the attacks on Lord Sumguy, the blending of a live human being and the forcing of others to drink those remains, the glassing of North Calaveras, and the foolish orders given to the nation of Automagfreek.

On the subject of the latter, it strikes me as odd as to why the Londinians find the Automagfreek response unreasonable. Perhaps a bit over the top, but unreasonable? The Londinians were attempting to keep a piece of soveriegn Automagfreek, a military base rightfully seded to the Freeks, from replinishing itself, essentially depriving them of their right to this base. The Freeks then responded, and there is little outrageous about that.

The comments of the Londinian Consul strike me as quite amusing, however. Since when has British Londinium ever been "dedicated to equality and personal liberty"? Is this before or after the screams of the parents of that innocent Cazelian were drowned out by the liquids of their daughter being poured down their throats? The words equality and personal liberty are complete opposites of the Londinian Commonwealth, oxymorons if you will. Frankly, it strikes me as rude to the victims of their actions that they would go so far as to call themselves this. Finally, the Consul wraps it up by stating that "I, for one, will not rest until every trace is purged, liberated, and, if need be, blasted of the face of the Earth". Now, is that not ironic? They are all equal, and eliminating them from the face of the Earth is bad, but purging the Freeks is any better? Genocide by either nation should be condemned, but it is statements like this that remind the world why to not defend the Londinian Commonwealth.

Also quite amusing was the reactions of the numerous other nations that have become involved. Although the actions of Gholgoth and NATO nations in favor of Automagfreek and CAP nations in favor of British Londinium are easily explainable, the actions of nations such as Toori are less so. Frankly, they realize that British Londinium is going down, and they just want their piece of they pie. What they don't realize, however, is that all those pieces are going to come served with a nice thick coating of glass on top. Thes tag-along nations need to shape up fast if they are ever going to get anywhere in this world.

Although the Fuhrer was unavailable for comment, it can be assumed that Kampfers will stay neutral throughout the entirity of this conflict. Frankly, the potential genocides by both sides make the risks far outweigh the benefits, and sour relations with both nations in the past mean that neither will likely even get a Kampferian message of support.

Lets try and get the quality of this RP back on track. : /

The Holy Altaic Empire frowns greatly upon what appears to be blatant Freekish imperialism with their constant encroachment on the sovereign territory of the People's Sovereign Republic. Unless the aggressors cease their actions, the Holy Altaic Empire is seriously considering military action. While we would never initiate offensive or aggressive action against the Excessively Armed Empire of Automagfreek, the dispatching of an expeditionary force to defend the People's Sovereign Republic from foreign annihilation would not be an unacceptable option.

"Sir, General Vorder is requesting to speak to you from the CSS Brotherhood."

"What the hell is he doing on the Brotherhood?" Omar Pace sighed and nodded, picking up the receiver. "General Vorder."

"General Pace, I have countermanded part of your orders for the Fourth Fleet, so that I may attach the ground forces of the Special Task Force to the fleet. The STF will up the troop levels significantly and ensure a favorable outcome for the Freeks and for ourselves. We are deploying now and will arrive in approximately ten hours at best speed. As far as I can tell, the prime landing sites are being filled with non-Gholgoth troops."

Omar paused for a long moment. The General had gone outside his bounds, but not too far. "Rayden... you will suffer great losses doing this, you know. You'll have to fight our way in, through the hell that's being dropped and then back out again."

"I'm aware of that, General. I'm still going ahead with this. It will be costly, but we can do this. We will do this." The young general's voice filled with a confidence Omar did not hear often. He really believed it.

Omar could find nothing to say but the quote of Vladimir Saratov, first leader of Crimmond. "To have mercy on an enemy is to always have an enemy. Let not one survive."

==========

Three fleets converging, two less than five hours away, one double that. Outnumbered ten to one, undertaking a mission that seemed foolhardy at best, simply to evacuate a single fort. A losing proposition? Perhaps. But odds could be evened easily when your navy boasts nearly 750 Supremacy class submarines, over half of which are deployed at any one time.

Sincerely,

Supreme Directive nr. 25

1. State of emergency will be declared in provinces North-Selentia, South-Selentia and Skeltar due potential radiation danger from British Londinium mainland.

2. Citizens of Olmedreca in British Londinium mainland must be evacuated immediatley, as first priority. Evacuation from other Londinian colonies must also start.

3. All naval forces must be fully mobilized, fleet must ensure defence of Olmedrecan coast. Army and airforce will be mobilized partially.

4. Olmedreca will give refugee to all Londinians who wish to evacuate here.

--------------------------------------------------

Conflict between Automagfreek and British Londinium had been always considered possibility by Military Intelligence since Freekish base Fort Miasma was established, but was generally seen unlikely due enormous risks it would mean for Londinia. Still, Londinians had been acting irrationally repeatedly in history, and as relatively close neighbour, Olmedreca could not ignore any threat from that direction. Therefore plans for such catastrophe had been made and now were fastly executed.

Admirality used emergency right to mobilize any ship under Olmedrecan flag for fast evacuation. As large number of Olmedrecan merchant ships were always in area, finding ships for evacuation was not a problem. At same time navy started deploying fleets from main naval bases at north, to Tule islands and Selentian coast area, which were closest to Londinia.

Sir, orbital and ground incoming. ETA: momentarily. We can't survive this!

Palmer had no time to think, for the end had come sooner than expected. Though his guns continued to spit forth countless nuclear artillery rounds, he knew that at this point it would be all or nothing. He would die either by his hand or that of his foes, but the former would cement his name in Freekish legend for all eternity, though the thought of fame didn't enter his head. A tear welled up in the corner of his eye as he pressed the picture of his wife to his chest, and whispered softly My love...

He then mashed down on the black button near his right hand, which in an instant detonated over a gigaton of nuclear munitions inside the bunker complex. Moments before he was vaporized the Major pictured in his head the carnage that he unleashed...seas boiling, ships being flipped completely over by the sheer force, the lands ablaze, and life all around as it existed ceasing to exist. Without a doubt an explosion of such incomprehensible size could be felt across the world, and it was a certainty that the cobalt jackets would pollute the land with so much radiation that nearby continents would be at risk from fallout.

Whoever in British Londinium that was not lucky enough to be vaporized would either die or suffer severe effects of radiation poisoning, to the point where operations on the ground against mainland Londinium would be much easier. However, no chance would be taken in the administering of Blood Feud, and therefore a disproportionately large sized invasion force would be dispatched backed by several thousand ships. Although Alerick had not even arrived at the St. Freeksburg staging area yet, the forces there were already scrambling to load into the parked and waiting vessels.

Meanwhile Azrael was filled in on the news that the massive nuclear cache was detonated by the Major, who felt there was no other alternative. The Regent tightened his lip and nodded, knowing that this was simply an eventuality. Brave man...brave man... he said aloud as he turned to the series of screens behind him, demanding a situation report.

Well sir, we're still getting reports of the destruction, though now it's anyone's guess until the dust settles. A gigaton of nuclear weapons is many times overkill for a nation of British Londinium's size, and the cobalt jackets will severely salt the area with short term radiation, since cobalt has a relatively short half life.

Oh, we're also getting new intel in concerning Damien and his progress on the ground. I think you're going to want to see this....

With the Questarians having already retreated from Freekish waters and now the unexpected update on the war with Doomingsland, the Londinium would not face a distracted Automagfreek....for now the full wrath of the Excessively Armed Empire could be effectively brought to bear. Word was also beginning to trickle in that Gholgoth and indeed NATO were expressing interesting in assaulting Londinium's foreign holdings and claiming them as their own, which was another unanticipated but welcome piece of news.

HMS Sir Alistair Davidson
Port of Beirut
Retjenu Colony (the Levant)

The three-dimensional holographic map of the homeland was suspended in the middle of the conference room, with the Consul and her cabinet glumly observing it. The nuclear barrage, and now the nuclear explosion at Miasma, had thrown immense amounts of debris and ash into the air; it was enough to blot out most of the continent, reducing the proud landmass into a caricature of primary colors through satellite thermal imaging. The warm glow of the radiation could be seen quite clearly, slowly extending itself south like a monstrous, radioactive squid, and, though it couldn't be seen, it was all too obvious to the government officials that hundreds of vessels, mostly destroyers and frigates, had been destroyed as well in the blast.

"Mr Crompton, I do sincerely hope you have a plan for this," the Consul replied coldly. "And I would certainly like it presented to me."

"Yes, yes, right away, Madam Consul," the normally composed War Minister replied nervously. "The defence of the homeland is normally not difficult, though the results of the nuclear detonations around Lixus present some challenges which both help and hinder us. The first problem is the extremely low temperatures. For the first time since, well, the ice ages, the sea lanes around the continent have frozen completely solid. The atomized entirety of Lixus is floating around in the skies above BL, on top of an already brutal winter. The second problem - which really doesn't effect us - is the radiation damage to electronics. Of course, all of our military equipment and infrastructure is sufficiently hardened, though, hopefully, Freekish forces will not be aware of the severity of the electromagnetic dampening."

"Yes, yes, Mr Crompton, but will the Andamooka Plan be able to work?"

"Absolutely, Madam Consul," the War Minister replied. "All the preparations are still in effect."

Now the government simply waited for the Freeks to make their first move as they steeled the Commonwealth for war.

When Krakatoa blew, the sound of Krakatoa's destruction is believed to be the loudest sound in recorded history, reaching levels of 180 dBSPL 100 miles (160 km) away , and concussive air waves from the explosions travelled seven times around the world...

And for all that ...it was "only" the equivallent of 200 MT...

HM Queen Mercedez Merideath Hexx heard the distant thunder and felt the distance antenuated sonic ripple. She set aside her work and closed her eyes for a moment in sheer admiration of the Freeks trapped inside Fort Miasma. Her lands were far away and totally uninvolved, but never the less the TMI had kept a very close eye on the situation. The aide that burst in confirmed her suspicions and she took the report from him.

She scanned it quicklly and went pale. The blast was at least a gigaton, 1 billion tonnes, and given the massive amounts of radiation beyond the norm her very good analysts - using every bit of information gleaned from an excellent and generally little suspected spy satellite network as well as sig., comm, and human int - suspected that the munitions had been encased in something more, probably cobalt.

The over pressure from the blast...The chart gave Overpressures for 99,999 KT's, nowhere near what had just taken the planet and shaken it ever so slightly

Overpressure Distances
15 psi: 7.1 miles
5 psi: 13.04 miles
2 psi: 22.84 miles
1 psi: 33.65 miles
0.25 psi: 86.33 miles
0.1 psi: 176.84 miles

Overpressure Key
15 psi -Complete destruction of reinforced concrete structures, such as skyscrapers, will occur within this ring. Between 7 psi and 15 psi, there will be severe to total damage to these types of structures.

5 psi -Complete destruction of ordinary houses, and moderate to severe damage to reinforced concrete structures, will occur within this ring.

2 psi -Severe damage to ordinary houses, and light to moderate damage to reinforced concrete structures, will occur within this ring.

1 psi- Light damage to all structures, and light to moderate damage to ordinary houses, will occur within this ring.

0.25- psi Most glass surfaces, such as windows, will shatter within this ring, some with enough force to cause injury.

She shuddered and read on...

My kitchen window is 30" by 64". This window will serve as an easy-to-use standard for measuring the consequences of a nuclear blast.

The following will also use conventionally-used psi peak static overpressure (pounds per square inch in excess of atmospheric pressure) to indicate the force of the principal blast effect of a nuclear weapon.

The kitchen window standard is this: A 1 psi blast wave is equivalent to the kitchen window being hit with 1,920 pounds of force when all doors and windows of the house are closed [1,920 = 30x64x1]. Similarly, a 3 psi blast is equivalent to the window being hit with 5,760 pounds of force. So you can see why not only windows break, but walls can come tumbling down with such overpressures

Stomping on the box, crushing the building: Upon detonation, the expansion of gases causes the blast wave to form. The front of the blast wave behaves like a wall of highly compressed air, which can travel as fast as 1,150 feet per second (784 mph, after the fireball has attained maximum size) [Glasstone, pp. 38, 80].

When the blast hits a structure, it functions rather like stomping on an empty cardboard box, except that, instead of it being a foot, it is a blast wave that rapidly exerts pressure on and around the entire structure for less than a second. This jolt can be substantial, for as you can imagine the sides and roof of a building are considerably larger than my kitchen window, and the forces can be quite large. In a one-story home, one wall could readily receive a 193,100+ pound jolt at 3 psi, about a 100 times the load on the kitchen window [193,104=44.7 ft long x 10 ft high x 144 sq in x 3 psi]. Many structures will suffer some damage when the blast wave is about 0.5 psi or more [Glasstone, p. 80].

Glasstone points out that a line-of-sight rationale does not apply to blast waves: "The fact that the point of explosion cannot be seen . . . by no means implies that the blast effects will not be felt. . . . blast waves can easily bend (or diffract) around apparent obstructions [p. 92]."

The box is not always crushed. If it is a reinforced box, the force may be insufficient to crush it. Or, if the box is filled with sufficiently strong material, it may not crush. Or, if the force applied is weak, the box may not crush. With a building, the same principals apply. If the building is reinforced, it may not collapse. And if the windows and doors are either open, or quickly break out, then the pressures on the outside wall may have less effect, because of high pressures rushing into the building, thus filling it with a counter balancing force (a bit like stomping on a filled box, versus stomping on an empty one).

High winds come at the instant of the blast wave and last in the neighborhood of 3 seconds: at 5 psi, the maximum speed is 163 mph; and at 2 psi, 70 mph [Glasstone, p. 82]

Mercy read on as the report discussed the massive firestorm the blast had undoubtedly ignited, one that would make the horror of Dresden look like a small bonfire. She strongly suspected that she would have little appetite for dinner this evening. "Too many deaths, too many sensless deaths"

Sadly, she stood, thought a minute and figured out the direction of BL and Fort Miasma, then turned to face that way as best she could. Her face set in stone, HM Queen Mercedez Merideath Hexx slowly saluted the brave Freeks...then cursed like a sailor over their damned unnecessary deaths and shook her head at Azrael's short temper. "Grow a longer one boy!" She whispered to the winds.

OOC: I'm not going to guote more just go here for (http://www.nukefix.org/weapon.html)the photos and descriptions - they are sobering to say the least. You can go here for the blast effect calculator (http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/gmap/hydesim.html) - it is limited to 99,999KT though.

Encrypted Communiqué - Federation of Caelapes

To the Londinian Government:

We are prepared to commit any resources necessary to evacuate, shelter, and protect the citizens of British Londinium and overseas Caelapene citizens from the cold gauntlet of the Freekish butchers. Our fleet, currently stationed at Invercargill, is able to commit its land forces to the occupation and protection of Invercargill if you would have us evacuate Londinian citizens via the Aeronavy still docked there. We are also able to re-route planes from their scheduled commercial flights out of Caelapes to assist in any evacuations necessary.

In light of the Freekish war machine again rumbling to life in your nation, the Federation of Caelapes has elevated its Aeronavy Readiness to Level Red. All ports have been closed to civilian traffic, but we will escort any Londinian vessels to safe ports where your citizens can be held safely until the cessation of hostilities. As a word of warning, however, our Signeter project kinetic bombardment system is beginning motions to bring their missiles over Caelapes as a self-destruct shield, if the Freekish pigs decide to turn their attention to our people.

The First Fleet is in your command. The Third and Ninth Fleets are mobilizing to defend colonial possessions of your nation, should you wish it. The Second, Fourth, and other fleets will remain in Caelapene waters to stand vigil over our own lands.

Dum spiramus tuebimur; ex corona, æquitas; atque victoria aut mors.

The two Vetalian fleets had completed the long trek to Paelstinia, the capitol city of Beirut only a few hours' voyage away and clearly visible to the aided eye thanks to the flat, clear ocean and the arid skies of the territory, both of which aided visibility immensely. Consisting of two sizable field armies and a fleet of 400 ships, they were the largest of the overseas deployments to aid the Londinians and equipped with the supplies needed to further fortify their allies' position and protect the nerve center of the war effort at all costs.

The fleet was noteworthy for its heavy firepower, boasting a large concentration of dreadnoughts, battleships, and heavy cruisers relative to its lighter ships and submarines. The purpose of this fleet was not mobility but rather to provide a wall of steel shielding the coastline from enemy forces. It was to be the first line of defense against enemy attack, while the ground forces took cover behind the fleet and unloaded on the enemy as they drew closer to shore.

It would be a staggeringly bloody battle for any foreign invader, one that would cost them untold amounts with each additional foot of territory they gained. This was the crux of Vetalian strategy; do not seek to attack, but wear the enemy down and overextend them through granting them Pyrrhic victories, and then break their forces. They would whittle away the enemy until it was in a shape that was easily broken...or burned.

All across Victoria, the main Londinian continent, a mass of military airships clustered around the major cities. The biggest exodus in Londinian history was in the works, as thousands of refugees boarded naval vessels of all types as before the seawater froze completely, and, in the north, every single aircraft had been commandeered to evacuate as many persons as possible. Additionally, everything of all possible value was stripped from the land, packaged neatly, and placed on the next vessel to Beirut. Gold reserves, artwork, historical artifact, databases - everything imaginable. Even if Victoria was spared, Parliament reasoned, it would be in no shape to support the entire population of the country - though Retjenu, the Londinian possession in the Levant, was more than suitable. It was in Retjenu that the glory of the Commonwealth would blossom once more. Within seventy-two hours, the entirety of the country would be evacuated to safe zones within Britzkium, Oickoidia, Retjenu, Berincia, and Océanie. Naturally, this allowed the military far greater reign in orchestrating the Andamooka Plan, named after Charles Andamooka, its deviser. Each and every city was turned into a fortress, made to be as difficult to attack as possible. The Freeks would have to suffer long and hard to seize even one city.

"Victoria aut mors!" was the collective chant of the country. "For Crown and Consul!"

To say that Omar Pace was not a happy man was an understatement. He had been watching the orbital imagery come in and scowled as the final ball of fire erupted and expand. He watched the pressure wave hit the ocean and turned to an aide. "Tell the fleets to prepare for a series of overpressure waves and to continue on course. The Sentinels are gone, but we may be able to weaken our enemies by jumping on them in this time of disorder. Be prepared to launch ICBMs on my command. If it takes nuking an invasion force... what's one more radioactive crater in that sorry piece of land?"

===========

The Crimm armada rode out the waves with some difficulty, but only lost a single destroyer, which had taken on too much water and was 25% lower in the water than normal, now fully committed to pumping the sea water out, rather than assaulting the enemy. Another destroyer lent it's assistance, as well as protection.

The other fleet was well behind, five hours out.

Victoria abandoned as Gholgoth advances

Victoria, the continent which has housed the Londinian people for over two thousand years, was declared "strategically indefensible" by Her Majesty's Government as a brobdingnagian evacuation effort is implemented by the Crown.

BEIRUT, RETJENU - Beirut, a normally tranquil oasis, is now the port for ten thousand vessels and even more aircraft, serving as the primary unloading point for billions of refugees, hailing from all parts of the eleven million square kilometer continent of Victoria.

Queues are long as each refugee registers at the port facilities so that a comprehensive picture of Londinian demography can be compiled.

"Victoria is no longer, in the opinion of this government, strategically viable to defend," a spokesman from the Consular office stated in a broadcast last night. "Continuing to maintain a significant troop presence serves only to waste precious lives that will be necessary in transforming Retjenu into a land worthy of housing the Commonwealth."

This proclamation was met with many spontaneous demonstrations throughout the colonies, led by many citizens who believed the evacuation to be temporary.

"Victoria is our home," said one protester in Tyre, "My ancestors have lived in Kensington since the Romans landed there two thousand and fourteen years ago. How the government simply demand that we never see our country, our Victoria, again?"

However, in response to these complaints, the Home Office released a white paper detailing the reconstruction of each major Londinian city within Retjenu. Montparnasse, for instance, is being rebuilt north of Amman within the Palestinian sector of the colony. Most ambitious, however, is the plan to reconstruct Beirut in every detail to resemble Kensington, which has been rendered uninhabitable; nevertheless, Kensington will be the one primary Londinian city to not have a nominal Middle Eastern duplicate.

While the majority of the population has migrated to Retjenu, the whereabouts of the monarch and Parliament are unknown, though a recent communiqué declaring a state of emergency and conferring special powers on the Consul has led many experts to believe that most of government has relocated to RAF Nelson, in the Antarctic colony of Geluastralia.

Encrypted Official Communique - Federation of Telros

To British Londinium:

It is with deepest sadness and regret we have watched the destruction of your once great and beautiful nation by the Freekish barbarians. We understand that you have committed great crimes in the past, but no crime deserves a response such as this, no evil deserves the world being consumed in a nuclear holocaust. As such, the Federation has decided to stand firm, to answer and strengthen your call for the world to stand against Freekish oppression.

Even now, we are preparing a mighty fleet and invasion force to bring the fight to Automagfreek, and to take off the pressure on your nation. We know the risks but we take them willingly. Know that you are not alone in this fight.

Caelapes State News Office - CSNO - Morning Broadcast

"In international news, the government of British Londinium has abandoned its home island of Victoria. 'Victoria is no longer... strategically viable to defend,' a Londinian government spokesman said in a press conference last night. Victoria was rocked by the detonation of an estimated gigaton of nuclear weaponry by the nation of Automagfreek. This attack was in response to Londinian coast guard ships ordering a Freekish vessel to withdraw from territorial waters.

"Elements of the Caelapene Aeronavy, which have been docked at Invercargill, a Londinian port on Victoria, have reported marked casualties and radiation sickness from radioactive fallout encountered hours after the initial explosion.

"Since the explosion, the Aeronavy has been on high alert, all ports have been closed, and the Federal Cabinet has been sent to different districts of the Federation and have reportedly been meeting to discuss possible military response... excuse me, we have late breaking news to report—the Cabinet has reached a consensus and has declared war on the Freekish Empire. The Federal Government of Caelapes is overriding our present broadcasting to bring you a live statement from Prime Minister Richard Whitney."

The Caelapene seal displays for a moment before cutting to Richard's face. The camera gives little information about his whereabouts, with the camera carefully positioned only to show Richard and the flags of Caelapes and British Londinium draped behind him. After a short pause, he begins to speak.

"Good evening, distinguished and fellow citizens of the Federation of Caelapes. Four days ago, our esteemed allies in British Londinium came under attack in a horrific nuclear strike by a rogue state. Millions of innocent civilians—Londinian, Caelapene, and more—lay dead following this attack. This attack has instilled within us a terrible sadness and a pure, unyielding fury. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten the nation of British Londinium into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; their country stands strong.

"A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Rogue attacks can shake the land of our allies, but they cannot touch our allegiance. These acts shattered earth, but they cannot penetrate the rock of Caelapene or Londinian resolve.

Four days ago, our ally saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we will respond with the best of Caelapes—with the daring of our soldiers, our humanitarian workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who are able to help in any way they could.

"Immediately following the attack, our government's emergency response plans were implemented. Our emergency teams are working in Invercargill to help with local rescue efforts, and our military is beginning the evacuation and relocation of Londinian citizens. Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens and our allies around the world from further attacks.

"I appreciate so very much the members of Parliament and worldwide governments who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. Caelapes and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against evil. Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose world has been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened.

"This is a day when all Caelapene citizens from every walk of life unite with our Londinian brothers and sisters in our resolve for justice and peace. None of us will ever forget this day.

"Thank you. Good night, and dum spiramus tuebimur."

"Carriers, you have a go code. Signal all ships to begin assault on all BL and supporting nations naval assets. Make no distinction in civilian or military, unless one is a more immediate threat than the other."

Omar Pace watched the affirmative reports come in and nodded. "Inform the Supremacies to conduct Intimidation Warfare Plan Three."

=========

As flights roared off the carrier decks and the armada moved into position for naval combat, a new threat presented itself...

93 Supremacy Class submarines let loose a single ping. In unison. There was no doubting the locations and numbers of the submarines. Standard operating procedure for the Crimm. Let the enemy know exactly how screwed they are before you let loose.

Within minutes, there were nearly two hundred torpedoes in the water, streaking towards the BL, South Lizasaurian and Vetalian fleets. Most were aimed for surface ships, but some were targeted at what the crews thought were submarines. A total of thirty of the torpedoes were super caveatting, fired to draw fire from the enemy(which was a losing proposition, much of the time), which allowed the normal weapons a better chance to slip through. In this first attack, there were distinctions made between civilian and military. The first assault had to be a strike at the fleets... shooting a cargo ship would mean nothing if the battle was lost.

Still five hours away was the other Crimm fleet, which held the main invasion force.

Dr. Hodz sat quietly in a chair in the situation room of the bunker. The screens in front of him were painted with all sorts of different colors and numerous lines.

Dr. Hodz was not concerned with that at the moment. He held his head in his hands. An ally had just been struck down with nuclear weapons. Akimonad had shown itself incapable of evacuating anyone in time. About 3000 Akimonadi within British Londinium were dead or missing. Today was not a good day.

It would have to be avenged. There was no alternative, considering there was no point in asking the Freeks for compensation.

War erupts in British Londinium

First Minister Dr. Jules Hodz mobilized the ADF today as war erupted in British Londinium, a close ally of the Federated Empire. The Freekish base within Victoria began firing nuclear muntitions at locations around Victoria before detonating a massive nuke apparently hidden inside. It is estimated that some 3000 Akimonadi citizens were killed or went missing during the attack. Most of the Londinian populace has relocated. It is unknown where the Londinian government has relocated, though rumor indicates Antarctica as a probable location. The ADF Navy also announced that it was readying the Fourth Fleet to move to Antarctica to protect the Londinian interests there, as well as Akimonadi colonies in the Antarctic.

Dr Hodz:

I most sincerely appreciate your aid in our darkest hour. We are preparing, at this very moment, to relocate the whole of the population - now safely residing in Retjenu - to Deva Victrix, an island in the south of Mediterranica, which will be more suitable to the needs of the Commonwealth. At this time, I most humbly request assistance in destroying Crimm assets within Victoria; though we can not return to our home, the last thing any Londinian wants is to see a foreign flag hoisted above the ruins of our cities.

Sincerely,

RAF Bexley
Victoria, the Commonwealth

When the Londinian government declared Victoria abandoned, it was in all seriousness. Every civilian from the River Kirk to the River Borealis had been evacuated; no significant fleet assets remained, and neither did significant ground forces outside of several dozen regiments protecting the last refuge of Argyll, in the far south. The only naval vessels remaining near were the Type 212 littoral defence submarines escorting supplies and the last of the refugees to Britzkium.

So, when the Crimm vessels were spotted, the Royal Air Force was the group that would take them out. Of course, none of the modernized, advanced aircraft could be spared on what amounted to a sentimental campaign, and the airbases still manned by Londinian personnel were armed with a motley of planes, ranging from unused F-117 stealth bombers to Avro Vulcans from the late 1980s to Panavia Tornados from the 1996 Goob War.

A slew of these aircraft took to the skies and unleashed a fury of conventional and EMP missiles and bombs at the Crimm force.
South Lizasauria
20-10-2007, 03:39

"Brotherhood, this is Fire Leader. We have radar contact with the enemy. Land based air assault, most likely... getting a lot of echoes and different signatures. Please advise."

Moments later, the radar man onboard the Brotherhood started rattling off the most likely aircraft to match those signatures. He wasn't too far off, so the appearance of the old aircraft didn't take the Crimm by surprise. They didn't underestimate the planes either... so these weren't the fastest or newest planes. They could still knock the carrier's fighters out of the sky.

Sixty Crimm aircraft were airborne from the carriers and escort carriers, half of them staying over the armada while the other half streaked away to intercept the incoming planes before they reached the ships. There was no way the enemy would use the EMP weapons in air-to air combat at close range... it would mean the battle would be over in moments and end with a whole swath of ocean covered in sinking planes and bobbing pilots. Most of the Crimm fighters had speed on their side. They could climb faster and higher than many of the planes pitted against them. The advantage vanished when it came to turning, though. That was offset slightly by the Crimm fighter/attack planes, who could turn fast enough to get on the tail of any airplane they faced, but couldn't match many of them in a climb. Each had to fight it's own battle, or else become prey. Missiles flew, bullets sprayed and the thirty planes fought desperately to keep the armada free of enemy planes.

That was an impossibility, though. They couldn't shoot down all of the enemy planes before they arrived at their targets. The EMP weapons seemed to have only minor effects on the armada, mostly in terms of replacement aircraft for the losses not launching(one of which nosedived into the ocean), but was consistently throwing up AA rounds and usually using two or three CIWS per missile.

Still, damage was done to the armada, several ships struck... a sizable hole had been blown into the deck of a troop ship, which was rapidly being abandoned by Marines and crew. One heavy cruiser's bridge a hunk of slag. That ship continued on as if nothing had happened, for the time being, as it didn't take a bridge for AA weapons to fire. Steering would become an issue at some point, though.

It is even to greater sorrow as we see the great lengths the people of British Londinium need to go to survive against this hideous and despicable onslaught. Through personal consultations with our parliament, I regret to inform you that the Imperial Diet has rejected the possibility of direct open military intervention to defend British Londinium. Over forty aircraft from initial onslaught crashed into the waves, destroyed by the concentrated Crimm anti-aircraft barrages. The first wave of aircraft circled back to Bexley, having unloaded the majority of their ordinance, just as the second wave - two hundred bombers - entered firing range. These aircraft - F117s, B1R Lancers, A10 Warthogs, B70 Valkyries - flew far above the Crimm fleet before unleashing hundreds of fuel air explosives, many of which were purposefully transformed into dirty bombs for this mission.

The Dunerian fleet would encounter nothing more than a radioactive wasteland as the twisted hulks of the cities burned, destroyed by retreating Londinians as they abandoned the land. Every square centimeter, save for the island fortress of Bexley, had been ravaged by the nation's store of radiological weapons in addition to the Freekish nuclear onslaught. If the Londinians couldn't have their homes, neither would anyone else.

[ooc: This post has been previously discussed with BL]

Drasgard, Olmedreca

Nine men of the Supreme War Council sat at half-circle shaped table in large dark room. On walls were displays showing strategical situation region, mainly around British Londinium. In front of them major, wearing a black military intelligence uniform, finished presentation about Crimmondian fleet movements:

“So in conclusion, current fighting between Londinians and Crimmondians at British Londinium mainland is pretty irrelevant as land is currently nuclear wasteland. But there is large possibility, that fighting soon expands to Londinian colonies, both inside and outside the Mediterranca. Any questions?”

Vesse Põhjakotkas, First Citizen of Olmedreca, started speaking:
“I do not think that we have any, I would like to continue from the point there major stopped, Londinian colonies. From our point of view that means mainly Britzkium and Oickoidia. Londinians have evacuated most of their forces to outside of Mediterranica, they do not have sufficient forces in area for defending them. Therefore I think Olmedreca needs to establish control over those areas.”

Minister of War, Johan Raudlinn asked:
“You mean that it would be pre-arranged with Londinium?”

Põhjakotkas answered slowly:
“No. We do not have time to make some negotiations with those irrational Londinian socialists. Whole operation will be one sided, if Londinians resist, we will use force.”

Foreign minister, Lembit Tuleplaneet, clealry disagreed:
“Impossible! Londinians have done nothing bad against us. Also our agreements with them and our membership of MU makes it totally impossible.”

“We have Gholgothians running around in Mediterranica! Londinian homeland is nuclear wasteland. We do not have time for diplomatical babbling. There will be no official declaration of war from our side anyway, if Londinians do declare war, then its their problem.” Said Enst Tormilind from military intelligence.

Foreign minister was still unhappy:
“But… planning such operation would take time. Also we need to prepare troops and fleets.”

Põhjakotkas answered calmly:
“I already informed our friends from army, navy and airforce about the problem. Operational plan is ready for use. Our fleets have moved into positions. In Britzkium we will use our airbases in Londinia for decapitation strike with special forces. We believe that only minimal fighting is needed in both colonies. Everything is prepared, now we only need to make decision. So anyone who still opposes it?”

He looked around in the room, nobody protested anymore:
“Good, Operation Black Dawn will start immediately.

---------------------------------------------------

British Londinium colony Britzkium

Three Olmedrecan B-22 heavy bombers flew in sky. There was nothing strange about it. Olmedreca had established airbases in colony, then war between New Prussian Empire and Corporate Alliance threatened to spread into Mediterranica. Most bases had been removed in time, but two were still there. Now free usage of Britzkium airspace was going to be put into different use. As bombers flew over local proconsuls palace, five hundred paratroopers jumped off from planes. Paratroopers were elite of Olmedrecan Army, popularly they were called “Angels of Lucifer”. Paratroopers landed in strategical locations around proconsuls palace, effectively surrounding it and then rushed towards it. Few guards standing at main door were shocked, and realizing that resistance was hopeless, surrendered.

Proconsul Roberto Guzzoni was sitting in his office and just started to sign some document then suddenly Olmedrecans rushed into the room. One of them stepped forwards:

“Good morning, I am major Julius Brede from Olmedrecan Army. I am here to solve the Britzkium security problem. Its good to see that you are already prepared to sign a document, here is one for you.”

With that he put next document on proconsuls table:

Proconsuls emergency directive

Realizing that currently British Londinium government is unable to guarantee security of Britzkium and its residents, I Proconsul Roberto Guzzoni, have decided to accept generous Olmedrecan offer of protection.

1) Britzkium accepts offer to become protectorate of Satanistic State of Olmedreca.
2) All permament residents of Britzkium will become citizens of Olmedrecan Britzkium Protectorate
3) All British Londinium armed forces in Britzkium are to stand down. From now on they will receive commands from Olmedrecan commander of Britzkium area.
4) All rights regarding governance of Britzkium are transferred to Olmedrecan commander of Britzkium area.

Roberto Guzzoni, Proconsul of Britzkium

Before shocked Proconsul could say anything major stepped next to window and said:
“Could you look here for a moment?”

Few seconds later five large planes flew over the Proconsuls Palace.
“These are Sariel bombers”, continued Major. “We have dozens of these currently over strategic locations of Britzkium. Failure to comply with our demands will result decisive strikes on all strategical locations, throwing Londinian forces in area into chaos. Now if you look here…” he put several images on table, “these are sattelite images of Olmedrecan fleet currently heading towards Britzkium, it carries more than hundred thousand troops. In Olmedreca another half a million troops are ready to join them if necessary. Britzkiumites would only win from the proposal, it would put you under protection of friendly state and you would not need to fear invasion of Gholgothians or other nations, which are trying to grab piece of British Londinium. So could you please sign the document now fastly? I want you to make public statement in television immediately after that.”

ONS Nihasa, 50 km East from British Londinium colony Oickoidia

Olmedrecan armada was heading towards Oickoidia. About 500 surface combat ships, including heavy Duke class BTN’s with hundreds of transport and supply ships. Commander of fleet, Admiral Mere, sent simple message to Proconsul of Oickoidia:

From: Amiral Margus Mere, Olmedreca
To: Proconsul of Oickoidia

As you should know, majority of British Londinium forces have left Mediterranica, making you de facto defenseless. Olmedreca can not accept such large vacuum, inviting invaders all over the world, so close to it. Therefore we have decided to offer our protection to you. You will surrender all Londinian armed forces and governance of colony to Olmedreca. If you do not comply, we will be forced to use deadly force.

Proconsular Residence
Fulchester, Britzkium

The proconsul looked warily at the Olmedrecan officer, then down at the document that had been presented to him. Guzzoni was wracked with guilt, torn between two separate obligations. "For Crown and Consul," he had said during his Proconsular oath, but Guzzoni, unlike the unscrupulous men ruling over conquered lands, felt that there was a moral obligation to the people of Britzkium. Loyalty over averting a slaughter?

As the proconsul stopped twirling his pen and signed the document, the decision had already been made.

"There you are," the proconsul said blandly.

Oickoidia

The proconsul in Oickoidia, Charles Aix-les-Bains, was not quite as torn as Guzzoni, because he figured that he would be paid better under the Olmedrecans. Within two minutes of the initial message being received, the proconsul replied with an unconditional surrender of Oickoidian territory to Olmedreca.

Declaration of Quarantine Zone
Due to the hostilities in the Mediterranican region directed towards British Londinium and her Colonies and the close proximity of these lands to Dominion Colonies, The Aschenhyrst Royal Navy has declared a Quarantine Zone along the southern coast of Britzkium, extending 1500km out from shore. This zone is only along the southern coast and does not extend elsewhere. Vessels of nations not having relations with the Dominion are expected to stay out of this zone or be subject to search, seizure or destruction. We regret any inconvenence this may cause but maintaining free shipping towards our lands is a priority.
Parties involved in the hostilities: Do not attempt to violate this zone with naval vessels or aircraft, we are prepared to meet agressive action with proper retaliation. Our intentions are to maintain the shipping lanes to our colony, your hostile actions threaten that shipping. Do not risk spreading the conflict. Violation of the zone or hostile actions toward Dominion assets threaten to widen the conflict and bring more allies to the Londinian side. Londinian naval forces, you are notified that this zone does not provide a haven for you to launch attacks from but you may bring your vessels inside the zone for repairs. All parties are requested to respect the Quarantine Zone and Aschenhyrst`s neutrality in this current conflict.

Transitional Centre Alpha
Outside Beirut (http://www.civicarts.com/images/BBY/Business_City_CGI.jpg), Retjenu

Elise looked bitterly at the towering, glistering structures of Beirut, their lights coruscating gently amidst the backdrop of the night sky. Even twenty-five kilometres away, they were still an impressive sight. Most everyone in Retjenu flocked to Beirut, the so-called "Montparnasse of the Middle East" - except that Montparnasse had been vapourized three weeks ago by Freekish artillery. That thought only made Elise even more irate at her squalid condition. The 'transitional centre', a sprawling tent city, was dusty, always dusty, and hot, above all, mindnumbingly hot for a population whose summers never exceeded 25 C.

The woman was standing in the middle of a queue, this one for evening rations. Too many bloody waits, Elise thought. Might as well be a goddamn Soviet. Even the rations were subpar most of the time, normally comprising military-issue rations and the like, though, occasionally, some real food surfaced.

Most perplexing, though, were the disappearances. Elise's son, Cincinnatus, had vanished two days ago, leaving behind a simple handwritten letter, which read: "Dear Mother - I have been assigned to work on Operation Cheshire by the government. You mustn't mention a word of this to anyone; apparently the project is classified as a matter of national security. I do not know for how long I will be gone, but you needn't worry. With love, Cincinnatus." But, Elise had asked around a bit, and soon discovered that hundreds of others had disappeared similarly, and the official records that the refugees could access by the few computer terminals around simply stated that they had been transferred to the thousands of other transition centres across the desert. Of course, this couldn't be verified very well at all by anyone. The centres were a mess, and the government, so far, hadn't said a word about permanent accomodations, besides saying that they were "working on transferring citizens into hotels, vacant apartments, and the like within Retjenu".

She felt abandoned, most of all. Her home had been destroyed, the gods had turned their back on the Commonwealth, and Consul Davidson, probably safe and secure in Geluastralia, had ignored her people.

Meanwhile, a tattered Londinian flag quivered in the night breeze.

An entire airwing of C130Js and 2 squadrons of Aquilas approached Beirut. The C130Js held over 500 tons of basic food supplies and several hundred thousand gallons of water. The Aurum Domans hadn't been able to stop the Freekish onslaught but at least they could help the Londinians survive.

"So, Tucker, what do you suggest?" the Empress asked to the entrepeneur, member of both houses of Parliament and owner of the largest corporation in Great Vantania, Buy & Sell, not to mention Governor of Gateway.

"Simple. We pull out a loan and start assisting in reconstruction efforts. Desalination plants to pull water into the desert for feeding and irrigating, factories to help siphon the unemployed, schools to help the potential middle and upper class rise, private offices for the talented unemployed, and city planners to handle the growth. My personal city planner for the city of Headquarters suggests underground apartments and upward expansion."

"Very well, we'll give them the proposal."

Vetalian Fleet, Beirut

Although they were just a few hundred yards from shore, the situation in the Vetalian fleet could hardly be any more different than the conditions of the territory they were helping to protect. In fact, a lavish dinner was being held on the command ship Solovey, attended by the most elite officers in the Vetalian navy as well as a wide variety of civilian bureaucrats ordered to help manage the fleet during its operations in the territory.

The quiet sound of music, laughter, and murmured conversations was audible in the vast officers' hall, which appeared more like the decadent heart of a palace or even a casino than the functioning center of a modern dreadnought. Rather than steel bulkheads or plain painted walls, it was paneled with fine tropical woods, floors tiled with colored granite and columns and wall treatents fashioned from real marble. Supple chairs lined the walls, interspersed with ornate endtables and lit by antique table lamps. While the people outside waited in lines for military rations and lived in squalid tent cities, a beautiful spread of hors d'oeuvre were laid out on the gleaming white tablecloths and all around ornate tables set with expensive silverware and china glittered in the soft lighting of the vast chamber.

It was a strangely beautiful, strangely surreal sight, one that was so naturally Vetalian...

The Ryous soon started up The Invasion force.

This Invasion Fleet escourting the first wave of the Invasion had over 10 Agamemnon Class Battleships, one Nemesis Class Supercarrier, four Camelopardalis Class Air Craft Carriers, 20 Ayanami Class Destroyers, 10 Dead Moon Class battlecruisers and 50 Stingray Class Caravels with tons of other non-Combat Ships (Troop Carriers, Hospital Ships etc) This Fleet may have been small, but for the attack on Tasmania.

The Fleet soon set off from The Port of Shai and headed off to war.

Thanks to AMF for waiting up. Too many posts to read, and most of them rubbish. Hataria/Ryou, you are on permanent ignore. Stay out of my threads. I would sincerely appreciate it if the IC thread would stop having infinite amounts of n00bs who simply post "Yay AMF for killing BL!". It's irritating and pointless. I'll have an IC post shortly.

The Crimm
22-10-2007, 20:59
The armada was in disarray, the onslaught of fuel-air dirty bombs was unexpected. Crimmond had not fired even one non-conventional weapon.

Anti-aircraft fire became sporadic for nearly ten minutes of the attack, as the crews frantically tried to fight and tend to the wounded. Ten ships were sinking and one of the carriers had a fire on deck. Several signals were sent to the Crimm military command in Gholgoth, reporting the newest turn of events.

========

"They have used salted weapons on our armada. Turn the Fourth Fleet back to Africa. Inform the armada to break off and return to Gholgoth for immediate decontamination." Omar Pace calmly walked to a computer terminal and started punching in four alpha-numeric sequences. "Inform all ICBM launch sites that I am authorizing a full strike on every British Londinium city not yet struck. I am also authorizing the Supremacy class submarines to add to the bombardment as they see fit."

========

Within minutes the global missile tracking systems would read exactly thirty launches from Europe and Africa. It would be fifteen minutes before they shifted into their re-entry phase. Each missile carried six neutron warheads of five megatons each. Added to it that were fifty launches from just beneath the waves. These land hugging missiles were one megaton each and were standard nuclear warheads.

With the missiles approaching their apex, still well out of range of any weapon systems, Omar Pace appeared in an announcement to the BL population on several international channels.

"Citizens of British Londinium, I am Omar Pace. Leader of Crimmond. Leader of the Brotherhood of Nod. Automagfreek has visited destruction upon your homes and people that none of you expected or were prepared for. I have no doubt in my mind that you, personally, did not deserve this fate... though your government did. As such, I did not launch a nuclear attack upon your cities at the first chance I got.

Unfortunately, your military has forced my hand. Less than a half hour ago, the Crimm armada off your coast was attacked with salted weapons. Dirty bombs. The Crimm have not provoked any such attack. We have used nothing but conventional weapons against your forces and you respond with dirty bombs. It is my unfortunate duty to inform you that if you have any family or significant others left alive, you have less than twenty minutes to spend with them. I advise you not to waste those minutes." He stepped away and a screen showing ICBM tracks and every BL city that was still intact highlighted. "Perhaps you still do not deserve this fate... but your government still does."

"The Crimm have fired their ICBMs at remaining targets in British Londinium...we have little choice but to respond, Marshall."

"We are not going to use nuclear weapons. Those shall be reserved for later, should the situation warrant them...instead, we will unleash some of our biological arsenal on them. Order Biopreparat to begin transferring our stockpiles of Marburg virus, smallpox, and Ebola virus to the designated silos at Strategic Air Command."

"We will be careful with it, fire a salvo of missiles at them while simultaneously sending in teams armed with aerosol containers. In the event the missiles fail, we simply send in the covert agents. Do not target the capitol or surrounding areas. Go for the major cities, but not the ones closest to the capitol. We want this panic to spread inward, especially if their population flees the initial infected areas."

"And what do we do if it succeeds?"
"We sit back and watch them die. We've engineered the viruses to have a limited range of reproduction so that they will not spread extremely far outside of their initial target zone...this is meant to hit only Crimmond and nobody else."
"It will be done."

Several hours later, a cluster of 500 ballistic missiles from missile silos in central Vetalia fired towards five major cities and ten suburban sites in Crimm territory. They were not equipped with any kind of nuclear warhead; indeed, to scanners they would likely look like conventional payloads. Seconds after the launch, a covert ops team was on board a transport en route to Vetalian Tornus, whereafter they would transfer on to a container ship heading to Crimmond.

The ship itself was registered as coming from a neutral nation and would hopefully not raise any red flags. The special ops had been trained to play their part well, but no operation was perfect.

War Minister Elliot Crompton walked briskly through the dark, spartan hallways of the underground complex beneath RAF Akrotiri, the airbase in Retjenu which would house Her Majesty's Government until the completion of Operation Cheshire in Deva Victrix. He nodded grimly as he passed the consul's secretary, their sullen, morose eyes communicating the bond only forged by a horrific cataclysm.

The consul, Dame Flavia Davidson, did not look up from her writing desk as the War Minister quietly entered. Dozens of white papers and progress reports on the Deva Victrix operation were strewn over her desk, and a dim plasma monitor mounted on the escritore simply showed a blue-and-black strategic display of Victoria, with glowing green marking the struck areas.

"Madam Consul," Elliot said, "We've lost contact with Bexley, and our orbital surveillance has been knocked out from some type of electromagnetic pulse."

Flavia sighed before pressing a button on her monitor. The screen turned to hazy static before resolving into a live satellite image of Victoria.

"We have another asset moving into range now, Mr Crompton," the consul replied emotionlessly. "Take account of the damages for yourself, if you wish."

The view was grisly. The faint wisps of the lingering mushroom clouds could be seen hanging over the recently struck cities like a ghostly spectre. Montparnasse, Northolt, St Andrews, Kensington, Kingston, Argyll, Glascovia - all gone, demolished in the cleansing nuclear fires. This cinched it, though; there was no question about Deva Victrix, no hesitation in the plan to abandon the ancestral homeland. Victoria was no more.

Caelapes International Missile Emergency Notification Taskforce

Lines streaked across the large viewscreen at the front of a wide room as technicians ran between computer consoles. Red lights slowly pulsed and the words "LAUNCH CONFIRMED" appeared in large block letters at the bottom of the screen. From an observation deck above the room, a crisply-dressed Caelapene officer strode over to a bright blue, buttonless telephone and picked it up. After a short pause, he spoke.

"Confirmation of launch, sir. Thirty launch points, all in Africa and Europe. Identified as a Crimm launch, sir," Aeroguard Adjutant-Commander Ben Riyale said. He turned to receive a report from an aide. "They've made an international announcement. Permission to interrupt C-SNO programming, sir?" A short pause. "Yes, Crimmond... Yes... No, it's not Londinian... Yes, I'm sure... Yes, sir. I'll inform C-SNO and Lafayette immediately. Dum spiramus tuebimur." He returned the ph
one to its cradle and picked up a different phone.

Lafayette, Canton Misley - Signeter Launch Command

Aeronavy Commander-General Tom Null picked up the telephone after one ring. "Signeter Command," he said plainly. As the voice on the other side spoke, he stood straighter. "What is your authorization code?" He again paused to listen and frowned at the answer. He leaned over and checked the calling station ID on the phone console. "Good God, we're not under attack, are we?" He breathed out and ran his free hand through his hair when he heard the answer. "Aye, Commander. Signeter platforms are being brought about now. We'll launch as soon as the platforms are in place. Dum spiramus tuebimur." The phone was set back on its cradle and Tom walked to his desk. He unlocked a drawer and input an eight-character code into a thick metal box. It popped open, and he took the open box from the drawer and strode to a computer console where a technician sat. "Move," Tom said, showing him the open box. The technician paled a little and stood up. Tom sat down and took an orange keycard from the box. He tapped the numbers on the card into the computer.

> SIGNETER AUTHORIZATION ORANGE - READY TO REPOSITION AND FIRE

Moving to a different screen on the console, Tom ordered the repositioning of nearly fifty Caelapene satellites, each carrying four Signeter bombardment rods, with a projected yield of 18 tons of TNT apiece. In a few hours, the satellites would be in position and would automatically let loose their loads on a number of Crimm cities.

The Crimm

Myer(once Lodz). Skye(once Warsaw). Cairo. Kaliningrad. Gdansk. Tripoli. Six of the most important cities in Europe and Africa. While there was a moderate sized province in Gholgoth, with the major city of Avalon(the military base of which was currently serving as Omar Pace's headquarters), there was little chance of any munitions from reaching through the Freek, Panteran or Gholgothian mainland anti-missile defenses. The six cities above were much easier targets, given the lack of bordering allies around the traditional lands of the Empire.

The incoming missiles would have met with the greatest opposition in Myer, Skye and Cairo. Myer was the industrial heart of the Empire, Skye the traditional capital and Cairo the current capital. All three had been prepared as such for a long range missile assault.

The assault never struck them though. An added bonus to the enemy strategy was that not targeting those cities meant that well over half the missiles reached their intended targets. And the one's that were shot down? An anti-missile missile only works well when defending a base. if you down an incoming missile a mile away from impact, you have averted damage. Do it over a city and a different part of the city gets hit instead.

Gdansk was a city that had suffered through every horror of war save nuclear. The city was destroyed in a civil war, rebuilt, then destroyed in a Freek invasion, rebuilt... and now was suffering a new pain as virus carrying missile slammed into it. The only downside of this was that a Pantera fleet was often in this port and a whole section of military docks were ceded to the Reavers. It was unlikely that the Panterans would stay in dock after the attack though, so exposure risks were minimal.

Kaliningrad was a port city that was a shipping mecca. Every type of thing was traded. Food, cars, boats, gold, guns, people -- illegally, of course-- drugs and anything else you could think of. It was also completely undefended from missile attacks.

Tripoli was a fortress city, as well as a port. Which proved only to be one thing: a prison as well. The high walls kept the toxins in and the people in with it. While it had missile defenses, the gestures were all but meaningless with the numbers they faced.

While these were the most important cities struck, the reaction was the same. Mass panic.

The people hand no idea why they were being attacked. Most had no news of the ICBM launches or the attack on the Crimm fleet. For the first time since the Freeks invaded, foreign ordinance was slamming into Crimm cities. The population didn't know if this was a precursor to invasion, a preemptive strike, a retaliation strike or a terrorist action.

All 90% of them knew was that the military had failed to protect them. The other 10% knew that now was as good a time as any to pick up a sofa, TV and other assorted appliances and furniture before the police and military could organize and restore order.

==========

There was no response to the attacks from the military. No more launches, no more assaults, no speeches, no contact with the outside world in any way shape or form. The borders were sealed. The port cities were evacuated, as they were likely targets of a second assault. The Empire was too busy smashing it's own civilian's uprising to bother with the rest of the world at the moment and had done what it always did in such times. It became like a hermit crab and retreated into it's shell...

A response did come though. An audio statement was released to the Imperial news and international news services.

"Seven hours ago, the Crimm armada in British Londinium waters was struck by salted nuclear weapons and firebombs. This could not go unanswered. I authorized a strike against all BL cities. That strike occurred six and half hours ago. Six hours ago, Vetalian missiles struck several population centers of the Empire. Since that time, I have had the sad task of ordering the deaths thousands of Crimm citizens, in stopping the riots. Even now, some those riots continue. They will pass soon enough and then the Empire will turn it's head to it's enemies once more.

Vetalia, you have the honor of being the only nation to have ever succeeded in assaulting the Empire with such weapons. You will also have the honor of being the first nation that I personally swear to not retaliate against in a non-conventional way. There has been too much death this day. I despise that I added to it, but blow must be met with blow. Even that logic has it's limits though. I have no desire to be the ruler that entered into a shooting war in a MAD situation. I say to you thus: Enjoy your victory. For the fleets of the Empire shall visit your shores at some point. And we will not be bearing gifts."

Omar looked infuriated. He wanted nothing more than to give the command to launch the entire Crimm nuclear stockpile... but that would end Crimmond and the Brotherhood. "There are some days I long for the simple days of being a terrorist..." he muttered to himself as he slumped onto his bed for even a few minutes of sleep. It never occurred to him that his poisoning of Cairo's water supply years ago was no better than the Vetalian assault. Thankfully there was no record -- anywhere -- of who committed that act...
Automagfreek
23-10-2007, 05:00
Alerick had just slipped out of port when Azrael's orders came across the wire that Zander and Brinks would be leading the primary assault upon the British mainland. This infuriated the Deathklaat to no end, for he yearned for nothing more than to redeem himself in the eyes of the new Supreme Warlord. However, Freekish troops would take time to place on the ground, and word had already reached AMF High Command that Crimmond had launched a full scale strategic nuclear barrage against the remaining British cities. This was indeed an unexpected but pleasant surprise, and Azrael in turn offered up another reponse of his own.

For many generations the Excessively Armed Empire had collected one of the largest nuclear and kinetic stockpiles in the known world. It was only on a very rare occassion that the full arsenal of Automagfreek was loosed, so it came as a slight surprise to the individual silo commanders when their orders came in. The Londinium navy and not the mainland would be the recipient of the incoming ICCM barrage, while HOUND assets would be kept in reserve to gauge the effectiveness of the kinetic strike. However, first the British orbital defenses would have the be dealt with. A large and widespread ASAT launch was released not only from ground and naval launchers, but from Freekish orbital platforms rotating around Gholgoth proper. Thousands of the anti-satellite weapons with both conventional and semi-low kiloton warheads would be used to knock out communications and weapons platforms in space that were protecting British Londinium from an intercontinental response.

After sufficient time had passed since the massive ASAT launch, tens of thousands of 'Porcupine' missiles were to be fired not only from the Freekish mainland, but from every outpost with available launch facilities. The large intercontinental missiles were capable of deploying 10 individual penetrators while the main body of the missile acted like a massive harpoon, and the weapon had gained a fearsome reputation after wreaking havok on the Doomani navy during the AMF/Doomingsland war. The scourge of missiles would rain down with ICBM like speed, which was well into the Mach 20 range and would make interception exceeedingly difficult. The largest of British surface vessels would be the primary targets, with smaller ships being ranked in order of importance in order to effectively cripple any sort of seaborne resistance.

While the strike was being carried out Zander and Brinks were already well on their way towards the southern shores of Londinium, though their arrival was still a day or two away since having to change course coming back from Doomingsland. The bulk of the inbound forces did not see ground combat in Ephesium due to Dreadfire taking his forces ashore first, resulting in the unexpected political reconciliation that followed. Therefore a sizable force was able to immediately project itself upon mainland Londinium between the two Warchiefs, while Alerick's detachement consisting largely of Azrael's personal forces would be arrive thereafter.

Meanwhile, the extend of the nuclear assault by Crimm forces was still being gauged, and upon receiving confirmation that an inbound barrage was detected, the joint Gholgoth defense grid sprang to life. Ground, air, sea, and orbital interceptors were deployed not only from every Gholgothan nation linked to the grid, but from strategic defense points erected across the region. Automagfreek itself fired off scores of defensive missiles in order to safeguard its regional ally in Crimmond, and without doubt the whole of the region would respond to the attack in kind.

Azrael was already rumored to be addressing the lords of Gholgoth shortly after his rise to full power of the Empire concerning the proper response to the Vetalian strike. With a pending fight against Telros as well, it was looking the British Londinium campaign would extend well beyond the radiation seared borders of a land sentenced to burn.
Vetalia
23-10-2007, 06:24
The Imperial broadcast was picked up in Vetalia, where the Emperor and his staff monitored the situation carefully from the elegant throne room of the Praetorial Palace. The screens monitoring the events in Crimmond filled the room with their eerie glow, the officials speechless as they watched the effects of war unfold before their very eyes. It was a terrible sight, one that had not been seen in Vetalia for years, even centuries...death personified in the form of pestilence.

These bureaucrats were unprepared for such a sight and a palpable fear filled them as the full scope of their decision unfolded on the screens. Cringing with fear, even in the security of the palace, they were the embodiment of stereotypical Vetalian cowardice and wavering in the face of risk. Emperor Valerian could not help but look at them with disdain, despising them for their weakness and equivocating in the face of their decision.

...Vetalia, you have the honor of being the only nation to have ever succeeded in assaulting the Empire with such weapons. And we will not be bearing gifts...

"Is it over, then? Has Crimmond backed down?" Praetor Kosygin's wavering voice broke the silence, searching desperately for guidance in the face of this development.

"I don't know...however, I firmly believe that our attack was the right thing to do; we have achieved a respite from the war, shown our willingness to use all weapons at our disposal to defend ourselves, and we have shown them we are not a nation to be trifled with. We have bought the Londinians valuable time and increased our own reputation as a defender of our allies...but at the cost of untold Crimmond hatred for our state and our people. Some day, some time, we will have to account for what has happened today...all of us, really, since there is hardly an innocent state in this war. We can only hope that our country is prepared...and that the Gods will forgive us for the evil that we have inflicted on each other and on the world."

"Gholgoth is a frightening enemy, one that few regions that is capable of wielding its might with terrible efficiency, and I am terrified at the prospect of ever having to face them on the field of battle. I feel this is only the beginning shots of a much longer war, perhaps one that will not even be fought by us...the thought of passing down such a terrible legacy to our children is..."

The Emperor fell silent, knowing full well that words could not accurately describe the feelings of the assembled people in the room. The rest of the assembled, from the guards to the Praetor himself, said nothing but simply stared on at the carnage before them. Eventually, they left, leaving the Emperor alone save for his guards.

Before he lay down to sleep, he paused to pull a copy of the Tao Te Ching off of the antique bookshelf near his bed. A soft breeze blew in to the room, flipping the pages. The words on the page were almost prophetic, and as he read them he realized that this war would bring far more suffering before it drew to a close.

The military is a tool of misfortune
Not the tool of honorable gentlemen
When using it out of necessity
Calm detachment should be above all
Victorious but without glory
Those who glorify
Are delighting in the killing
Those who delight in killing
Cannot achieve their ambitions upon the world

Saying nothing, he simply stared out his windows at the glittering skyline of Vetalia City until exhaustion consumed him and he plunged in to dreamless sleep.
British Londinium

One by one, the Londinian satellites fell out of the sky. First, the powerful lasers comprising the backbone of British Londinium's nuclear defence, followed by the kinetic bombardment satellites. Crucial telecommunications satellites were spared, though, through the judicious use of decoy satellites, which were destroyed with no consequence.

Along the coast of Retjenu, though, the Porcupine strike was horribly devastating. Despite all defences possible being used to shoot down the incoming missiles, there was little the systems could do. The enemy missiles slammed into the hulls of the grand, gleaming behemoths that were the superdreadnoughts, and perforated the elegant contours of the Tempora Heroica class aircraft carriers, and decimated the battleship corps. By the end of the barrage, only three superdreadnoughts, five carriers, seventy-six battleships, and a slew of hundreds of smaller surface vessels were left.

Rebellion in Africa. Rioting in cities across the Empire. Death and mayhem everywhere.

There were several ways to handle the cleanup: massive decontamination of the cities was a must, but along with that the options ranged from massively expensive and time consuming treatments for the population that the Empire's medical services could not hope to doll out all the way to the cold blooded slaughter of the victims.

One extreme threatened to temporarily bankrupt the nation. The other threatened to plunge it into civil war.

Omar Pace was not a happy man. He sighed as he issued orders.

"Vetalia is a major threat to us, no matter what they do. I want the Special Task Force to redeploy across North Africa to stand by for any assault. Use the deep Saharan outposts." Those 'outposts' were, in reality, underground bases that the Brotherhood had used to conceal itself after Kane vanished. The stores had since been replenished and the Task Force would easily be able to fit into three of the outposts, their air wing within range from less hidden bases on the fringes of the Sahara.

Unlike the now lush farmlands of Ethiopia, the great Sahara had not been terraformed, though some soil near the edges had been enriched for farming. 'The Desert' was simply too valuable a piece in the Empire's defense network to shrink. Even a modern assault force would face immense difficulty in crossing the great dunes. Even General Vorder's Special Task Force would not have an easy time of it getting to and getting out of the moderately deep desert without the Brotherhood's intense knowledge of the lands.

There was no word to the Vetalians about what would be done between Eastern and Western Africa. With Vetalia to the Empire's East and British Londinium's refugees to the West, there was a very interesting situation unfolding. Two enemies... One was reeling from the war, the other was assisting the first. It would be a hard campaign to assault Vetalia, but much easier to allow the enemy to come to them, if they were foolish enough. Omar knew what would happen. The riots and rebellion would cease. The rioters would go back to work and the rebels would fight hard to keep one master from being replaced with another. The regional warlords wanted to rule themselves, not be dictated to. He was tempted to allow the lands of certain warlords fall into an invader's hands, but dismissed the idea. Petty revenge and national defense clashed too strongly.

Operation Black Dawn had been even more successful then expected at first. Bloodless takeover of Oickoidia and Britzkium had gone faster than planned. By now in both colonies were already several hundreds of thousands Olmedrecan troops, and more were arriving all the time. Olmedrecan Navy had taken in positions around them, making sure that neutrality of newly aquired territories is respected. Army established bases, oftenly simply by taking over local Londinian bases, also in strategical locations fortifications were prepared.

Those few British Londinium armed forced which had been in colonies had been now successfully disarmed. Although those weapons were going to be put in use again. All around Oickoidia and Britzkium started reqruitment of volunteer militia. Former members of Londinian armed forces were also given option to join this new militia. By many standards calling it militia was actually quite strange, because is took in use everything that British Londinium had had in those colonies, including heavy weaponry and planes. This was seen as useful method of using locals for bolstering defences of colonies.

For ordinary Londinian at new Olmedrecan protectorates life did not change very radically. Obviously socialistic welfare system was radically cut down as Olmedreca itsselfly was ultra-capitalist. Low Olmedrecan taxes were adopted to get economy on feet again. During war that was unlikely to disturb populance heavily anyway, as hardships were expected, that what happens after war was to be seen. All Londinians in Britzkium and Oickoidia were given citizenship of protectorate there they lived in, that meant they did not become full citizens of Olmedrecan State. Those who wished to leave were allowed to do so as keeping them in by force would only cause resistance. Emigration was expected to be rather small as currently people in protectorates were enjoying peace in neutral territory while the rest of British Londinium faced dangers of war and weapons of mass destruction.

Encrypted Communique to Londinian Government-in-Exile

Greetings again,

We approach you with a plan as the bell tolls for your nation and your past homeland.

Our colonies and doors have been open to you. We beg that you use them.

What we propose is this: You smuggle large portions of your population via cruise ships, tankers, anything that hold people, to your Antarctic colonies, being protected at the moment by us. Once they arrive, we can funnel them across the border into our territory, repatriate them, and send them to Akimonadi colonies across the globe.

We feel this is the only way you stand to be preserved. Our entire navy stands ready to assist.

We hereby urge the Excessively Armed Empire, and any followers thereof, including Gholgoth nations, to come to a peace conference to be held in Canvatica, Akimonad.

Similarly, we urge the Londinians and any allies there to attend as well.

This matter is one that can be solved simply through diplomatic talks. We hope that the leaders of their respective countries will be sensible in this matter.

OOC: Since the main combat in this thread is done and is now being broken down into seperate threads, I guess this one as served its purpose. If you want to start a peace conference thread, then feel free. My dignitaries will not attend in person but via video conference.
