Race: Dragons/Draconians

Government

Over the millennia, Dragonfell has evolved into a feudal plutocratic Oligarchy, with the richest and most powerful dragons of the land residing on a council that governs the state. This council is responsible for the country’s administration, and diplomacy, though the latter is restricted to the Ke Pa'kun mainly.

Each family of dragons has a fief, a large plot of land, to rule and exploit, and its own small population of Draconians to aid them in this job. Some dragons, however, simply choose to engage in study, or other practices, and have no interest in acumen.

In retrospect, the one with the biggest ‘horde’ (collection of riches) is seen as the most powerful and therefore has more power in the hierarchy of Dragons. The most powerful ones get to take part in the governance of the country.

Population

The Dragons of Dragonfell are very similar to other dragons around the globe, except they are much more ‘civilised’. They are subject to a number of limitations. Although they are able to fly at high speed, they find doing so quite tiresome, and breathing fire is limited to the size of a dragon’s lungs. Draconics can’t breathe fire at all, and while unburdened have the flying ability of a chicken. The proportion is roughly 30 Draconics to 1 Dragon.

It is also important to note that the dragon lords will often send Draconics to do most jobs, for the simple reason of not having to drive to do it themselves. Dragons have become lazy over the years, and often spend most of their lives sleeping, eating and making money.

In total, the population of Dragonfell numbers around 150000.

The Land of Dragonfell:

The climate of Dragonfell varies from cold tundra in the south, to ashlands in the middle, and cold temperate everywhere else. An igneous spine runs down the peninsular, forming a tall mountain range, and a number of rivers dot the north.

There are few cities in Dragonfell. There are town and villages that exist to support the dragons that hang around their strongholds, but for the most part the population is decentralised. On the coast, there exists a number of ‘trade ports’, where foreigners can go to buy the wares of Dragonfell, the rest of the ports existing to harvest pearls and fish. All other areas tend to see foreigners, especially humans go missing.

Economy of Dragonfell:

The combined wealth of the dragon’s hordes, despite much of it having been spent on developing the land, is vast, and increases slowly each year. Traditionally, the economy exists to support the dragon’s lavish lifestyles, although certain countries, especially Ke Pa'kun are interested in some of the alchemical products of the country, both unprocessed (blood of dragons, dragon scales, etc.) and processed (actual poisons and potions).

Armies of Dragonfell:

Dragonfell’s armies are more militias than proper fighting forces, with the dragons either dealing with threats themselves or sending Draconics to do the job for them. When the Dragon Lords originally disposed the homogeneous cluster of human kingdoms to form the land of Dragonfell, the main tactics used were that the dragons attacked the armies from the air while the Draconians weeded out sheltered peoples. It remains to be seen whether Dragonfell would employ this tactic in future wars against large, more organised opponents.

Dragonfell’s navy is practically non existent, and although the breath from dragons can destroy a ship quite easily, in misty weather, or in open seas where the dragons refuse to go, the ships are safe. Indeed, dragons often lack the drive to fight what they feel are small threats, and will often send Draconians to fight in their steed.

The land is littered with forts built into mountain sides, where the Dragons make their homes, and store their belongings. These often have the Draconian dwellings outside and sometimes inside as well.

Religion

The dragons themselves are very humanist in their beliefs. However, the Draconic populations believe their dragon lords to be living embodiment of gods – a belief the Dragons believe themselves somewhat – and that they themselves are the chosen people. This results in Draconics having an almost fanatical devotion to their dragon lord, and strong xenophobic feelings to some other species, especially Humans. Thus, temples are not commonplace in Dragonfell, though at a stretch the homes of the dragons can be seen as temples.

OOC: What kinds of goods do your dragons offer for trade?

If you get past the barrier of hostility, they'd be willing to sell high end Alchemical Products, but also quite elaborate jewellery and precious metals. Besides that, and maybe mercenary services, not much for the time being.

OOC: Kind of sounds like something my nation would be after. How about a meeting of some sorts?

OOC: Okay, but it'd have to be an unorthodox setting rather than you sending a diplomat.

OOC: I had to change my nation a bit to be more Elder Scrolls like. It turns out my people actually warship dragons. So how about some sort of religious crusade to Dragonfell? My people could bring offerings and you could give us items in return?
