A message landed on the desk of the president. It was marked "Most Secret". He slit it open with a golden knife, and read the contents.

Possible communist attempt to overthrow government has been detected. 98 % chance of armed revolution. Must react ASAP.

The president tapped in a special sequence on his blackberry, and then spoke to the other three members of the secret cabinet.

"We have a major incident unfolding. We must meet at once to work out the best possible course, and decide who is faithful to democracy. See you later"

Worker's Square - Milkavich City Centre

The sun shone harshly down on the packed square. From all the buildings surrounding it hung massive banners: the forbidden flag of a Communist Alfegos. Over 90 000 people had stopped work and come to listen to an amplified speech from a tall, tanned man standing on the raised base of a massive statue dedicated to the spirit of the worker.

"My comrades! Too long have we had to put up with opression by the current regime! Our civil rights and political rights are of the highest standard, according to our government.

But what happens to those who can't afford the latest technology? What happens to those who can't afford healthcare, and die of easily curable diseases?

I say that we replace the corrupt capitalist government with a communist government in which all of us will be considered equals! I say that we all become equals, and reap the benefits that our nation can provide!

What do you say brothers?"

There was a massive roar from the crowd, before the repetitive chant started:
"Fego'Toi! Fego'Toi!"
Translated from Fegosian, this meant "Our nation for all!"

ANN Evening News

Good evening. In the news tonight, we report of the heatening events in Milkavich. A communist-supporting protest has started outside the government house there, and it is rumoured that shots have been fired at the police. To our correspondant there, Mic'roi.

"Hello, I am standing on the roof of the ANN headquarters and from here, you can see the massive crowds filling the streets across the city. Over there is People's Avenue, and you can see over 100 000 people crowding in fornt of the government house, held back by the large concrete crowd barriers.

Wait a moment!! I just heard gun shots! The crowd is charging towards the police, who have taken defensive positions and they are now attacking the police with blunt cudgels and knives and the police have opened fire on the crowd!

We are witsnessing the police releasing fire with rubber rounds and tear gas ont he corad, trying to disperse them away fromt he governmental house. The protestors are being moved by more police who have come it to re-enforce them and...

We can't see the police any more. They have just been overrun by protestors, and they are now attempting to break down the doors of government house. We are just going to see if we can move down there to get a closer look.

The head of the protesters was at the frontline of the people who had ripped broken into a police car to ram the doors in. Machinegun fire of rubber bullets showered down on the crowd, but they continued unabated.

Inside, the Milkavich Minister was furiously talking into a phone.

"I need to get out of here NOW! The mob are going to lynch me, and I can't do anything about it. I need to get out!"

"Be patient. The helciopter should be there in a few minutes. The army is coming in to try and break everything up."

A helicopter came over the croad, a door gunner strafing the crowd with rubber bullets. The were now trying to get in the door with an angle grinder, and soon dispersed as they were showered with painful rubber rounds.

It landed on the roof, and the minister rushed in as objects flew onto the roof from the crowd.

It then took off and flew away towards New Zevkahy and safety.

On the ground, 3 Warhound-class Tanks drove into the crowds, dispersing them with their massive bulk. Suddenly, an RPG flew through the air from a building and impacted on the side of the lead tank. Shrapnel from the ERA showered into the crowd, causing hideous injuries, while protecting the tank from any damage.

This gave them the signal. A training round was fired from the tank intot he building, exploding in a cloud of smoke and a large percussion wave, showering the street with glass.

Molotov cocktails flew through the air, and impacted all over the tank. One hit the exhaust, and exploded, causing the tank to catch fire. The crew came out quickly, and were beaten to death by the mob.

The other tanks let loose with hails of real bullets over the mob's head, before driving ahead, anyone not moving being crused under the tanks.

Form behind, soldiers dispersed the crowd into the adjoinging squares and streets, arresting any troublemakers and throwing them into the back of APCs.

It was dark,a nd the halogen spotlights illuminated the street. 94 dead bodies were lined up against a wall, in bodybags, and soldiers were power-hosing the street of blood and burn marks, and quickly repairing any damage of bullet holes.

It was a horrible sight, but it was the only way found to disperse the revolters. Now they would have to deal with international repercussions.

At the Commonwealth embassy the pressure was high. Soldiers in full gear moved around making the biulding defensible. Documents were assembled and were prepared for destruction.
The reason why was simple, Alsdair knew what communism meant and Alsdair was one of the most capitalistic countries in the world. From that it was only a step away from declaring that the commonwealths corporations were responsible for whatever evil that befell Alfegos.
Fortunantly the preperations appeared to be unneeded as the Alfegos military seemed to control the situation.

During the night, messages had been relayed around the rebels. Men had armed themselves, and crates of illegal weaponry had been opened, revealing AT weapons, grenades and in one case a pack of CR grenades.

The men quietly slipped out of their house, before attacking the headquarters. This time, there was no quick repsonse. The building was quickly celared out, and the communist flag raised on the building.

Around the city, the same was happening in all the districts.

Then chaos began.

As the sun brightened, men stormed the military compund outside the city, and overran the airfield. The military fired with live rounds, blowing people to pieces. But they soon were overwhelmed as missiles shot thorugh the air and exploded on the occupied vehicles.

In all, 41 Warhound tanks and 3 LY4 tanks were captured, as well as 47 Fighter-Bombers form the aribase, who had no time to take off.

Now confident, the head of the revolution, simply known as Fego'fai di'to, sent a message to the governments of the world.

Elements of the 127th Airborne Division were the first Commonwealth soldiers to be dispatched. their mission was the assurance that diplomatic stations were to remain secure.
Further divisions were put on standby while the logistic necessities of moving such large bodies of men were prepared. Designated fleet units were made ready to act as a mobile base and airfield.
During this time the soldiers were put through training and "psychological preparation" meaning a breif reminder of al the wrongs the nations of the commonwealth have suffered from the "reds".
Apart from that there was also lessons on the basics of the Alfegos culture, language, religion and mentality. All of it had been prepared years before, and was constantly updated by the intelligence agencies of the commonwealth.

Of-course all this would prove to be wasted effort if Alfegos proclaimed it didn't want them.

Aboard the HPS Galileo (Her People's Ship), Sea Marshall Leon Gorvallis scrolled through the incoming instructions. He and his ships compliment had been commanded to move for Alfegan (is this the correct word?) waters, to supply peacekeeping support to the insurgency which seemed to be swiftly taking power. With a few barked commands, the ship was in motion.

The troops were loading fast. Aboard CJ-19 Atlas cargo aircraft flooded mass numbers of forces, all preparing to move out for Alfegos, and to help their fellows on the front do battle with the communist insurgents.

The Empress is saddened to hear of bloodshed and disorder in our great region. She feels, however, that attacking the protesters is an extremely poor way to seek a return to order. We suggest an open discussion between all groups involved, to see if common ground can be found, and a better government forged. The most of the nation is a massive island, 200 miles wide and 600 miles tall.

The conflict is taking place in the cntre of the continets, in the mainly forested area of Milkavich.

The communists were informed in secret channels of impeding attack.

The cities were filled with arms and barricades, the people were driven into a fanatical uprising and the vehicles were readied to attack.

The men of the Alfegos 9th Armoured Regiment drove in their armoured steeds down the main motorway and into Milkavich province. They then slowly advanced into the forest, searching for the communists in teh jungle. It would hopefull be enough to drive them out.

‘We came a long way,’ – random Polinas resident.

True to their word, the Damirans made massive investments in the Alfegan province. What was once a province known for its farming and agricultural resources was now one of the most economic active areas in the entire nation of Alfegos, and, with all the increase in funding, the agriculture was now stronger than ever providing food for the entire nation.

We can assume that at least partially responsible for this situation was also the Damiran army corps placed here as many of the soldiers could be seen shopping outside their base, supporting thus the economic growth of the province.

As a common occurrence in the province, one could see Damiran retail chains battling for supremacy in various areas, much to the benefit of the residents who could spend the money they earned due to this economical growth on new and interesting products.

There was also a deep friendship between the soldiers, heroes of the Flood crisis, and the civilians many soldiers leaving the country with a new spouse and regularly returning to visit as a civilian, which lead to another prosperous venture for the region, tourism as many Damirans that worked here chose to return for a vacation and the Damiran Companies made sure they had what to see.

In short, there was a lot of interest in Polinas and from Damiran Companies to normal Principality civilians everyone wanted to see the province prosper further. As such, it did not came as a surprise that the forces of The Principality immediately mobilized when the rebellion ignited.

“Yes, I understand mister president, at your orders,” the commander answered the urgent call from the president. He like many others in The Principality were deeply concerned about the current affair. Order were received that Polinas was to be untouched by this war and the commander fully intended to fulfil them. Already the base was on yellow alert and all personnel was made available for combat operations.

“Albert,” the commander called his assistant as he looked at a holographic map, “I want these plans relayed to all troops. We have received orders not to allow any attacks on Polinas. We will also coordinate actions with the Alfegan Army, so be on your toes.”

“Yes sir. Am I to assume that we will soon start deployment?” the assistant asked trying to gain some insight in what was about to happen.

“Albert, we already started the deployment,” came the dry answer of the commander.

Outside, the base resembled an ant colony. Supply planes were landing and vehicles were mobilizing while reconnaissance planes were regularly taking to the skies, the base was almost a sole living entity, an entity sharpening its fangs and claws aiming to strike at its foe.

If the communists thought this would be easy they would be in for a surprise. There was an entire Army Corp here and, unless they decided to strike at it with all they had, it would not budge and even if they did, nobody was going to enter Polinas.

The landing forces deployed across the south coast, and proceeded north into the forest. 25,000 armed soldiers were marching to meet with Alfegos forces and to proceed to the communist installment.

Meanwhile, 50 Faxanavian Fx-01 "Protractors" launched from the HPS Galileo. They soared out over the forest, awaiting any incoming commands from Alfegos forces below as to exactly what to attack.

The Kiravian Empire's Tropical Combat Legion neared Alfegosian territorial waters.

THey were well-trained, experienced, and well-equipped. Few Kiravians could survive for more than a week in a tropical climate, but these men could. THey were assmbled from the tropical colonies of the Empire, and had fought around the equatorial world.

The camoflauged battleships and troop carriers spotted the palm-forested coast in the distance. Weapons were drawn, a landing was about to be mande.

The Communist Dominion of Stoklomolvi condemns those who had rebelled as traitors. The reason for doing so is because the rebels attempted to install communism by force. Hence, Stoklomolvi hereby declares war on the rebels and will carpet bomb the area if given permission to do so. The Imperial Guard will paradrop into the jungle if it is requested, and naval bombardments may also be used if authorised by the legitimate Alfegosian government. The Communist Commune of Milkavich is not recognised by the Stoklomolvi government primarily because it rose to power in a coup; if the Alfegosian government truly needed a replacement, then the new government would have been recognised. Respond as soon as possible.

The Grand Fegos

Creeping along the tracks came the multiple IFVs and tanks of the Alfegos armour and Mech. Infantry. They were solwy checking the forest with IF eyes, searching for any hostiles.

Suddenly, a missile flew through the air and hit an IFV. It blew a hole in the back of it, and killed the roof gunner.

At once, the men lept out, firing off intot he undergrowth. Nothing.

Then machine-gun fire started up, alongside another missile, that bounced harmlessly off a Warhound tank. But it was an ambush.

The men were gunnded down, and anyone in the IFVs could not fight back.
The tanks fired of volleys of lead into the undergrowth,a nd got a result. There were screams of people mown down, and the chattering ceased. To make sure, a flamethorwer was dragged out, and used to clear the rest of the undegrowth. Not evem any bodies...

The designated units boarded their aircraft. In a few hours they would be in Alfegos.

Alfegos:
- 'They want us where!?'
- 'On the other side of the forest, the Alfegos command thinks that it is prudent to attack the socialists before they get some order in there occupied lands.'
- 'And who is to soppurt us? none of our own have shown up.'
- 'Alfegos Airforce, plus we'll be meeting up with their armored division. Besides that we're airborne! Were the best and we'll have enough equipment to wage the war on our own.'
- 'I only hope it doesn't turn into a Bien-den-phu.'

The rear of the IL transport opened flooding the paratroopers with light.
- 'RAZ! DWA!'
At the officers prompting the airborne moved out.
On landing they set up a perimiter. While most stayed there to create a base of operations others were sent out to patrol the area.
They made us of various armies experience in such warfare using such maneuvers as the "Tail" to ensure that they weren't followed. If suspected it would be a matter of placing "Toe-popper" mines or setting up an ambush.
The base was, currently, nothing much. A series of trenches giving overlapping lanes of fire. 80 mm mortars were set up in their own tranch from which they would be able to support every point of the base.
The commander like wise was placed in a trench rom where he radiod in to united command that the airborne was in place and ready to begin the operation.

We pledge to send 3 Squadrons of SU-47 Berkut Muti-Role fighters along with 4 An-130 Gunships (Kansiovian Variant of Spectre Gunship) to provide ground support for both yours and my troops from the Communists. The Ground force will consist of 700 men of the Волк Леопарда (3rd) Marine Division. They will be under your Command until we withdraw and act as an independent unit on the front. However although the 3rd Kansiovan Carrier Force is near Alfego, we would be unwilling to send them in very quickly, instead we would want to see how the war is developing into, before we move in more troops.

Message: We suggest that the Alsdair and Faxanavian ground forces transports land in the same place that we may coordinate better.

The Faxanavian Base of Operations was further down the coast, and buzzing with activities. Much of the enlisted aboard the HPS Galileo had landed, and they themselves were armed and ready for combat. This side of the island was expecting roughly 15,000 troops to arrive from sly based transport, with the other 25,000 landing on the alternate side of the island. However, this side would be supported by the 180 aircraft aboard the HPS Galileo, so they were nothing to scoff at.

50 of those 180 aircraft currently circled like birds of pray. They were waiting for signals from the Alfegos forces to go ahead with the bombing of the encampments just ahead.

Barely four hours after receiving the authorisation to go Etoilian boots had set foot on Alfegosian soil. Osprey tiltrotors of Special Operations Group 19 began infiltrating advanced parties into western Milkavich Province to perform recce and mark landing zones. Armed with nothing more than their G501K rifles, a handheld target locator for marking GPS coordinates, and the bergen on their backs, the special forces troopers worked quickly to a tight deadline. They had the cover of darkness and element of surprise on their side, and were easily able to avoid detection by what few rebel patrols this far into the province, and had orders to avoid contact if they were to encounter any.

Within eight hours of receiving the authorisation to go, the first units of the IX Expeditionary Army begun to arrive in country. Flown direct from bases in Etoile Arcture, they arrived in the cargo holds of over a hundred Airbus A400Ms landing in the airfields marked by the special forces troopers only hours earlier. Soon, muddy fields were being churned up by the wheels of light armoured vehicles. HUMVEE-like M96 Light Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles with remote control machine guns or fibre-optic guided anti-armour missiles on their roofs fanned out into the surrounding country side.

All told that night saw three air assault brigades infiltrated into the province. One brigade had secured Mik'vi town and linked up with Alfegosian loyalist forces, while the other two brigades had inserted to the east and south east of the town to protect it from any rebel attack. With the town secure its port could now be used to bring in heavy armour units by sea, and the construction battalions of each battleground begun to work on defensive measures to ensure the town would be fully secure from any rebel attack.

We wish to express the following rules to troops in our nation:

1) Do not leave mines and traps unexploded, unless necessary. We do not want to clear up the munitions.
2) Use of CBR weapons, except in the case of CN and CS gas, is forbidden.
3) No large permanent military bases are to be set up.
4) Any attempts to occupy and keep land will be met with force.

From the police station in the city had been crudly removed the holographic projector. It had been reprogrammed, and now showed a 3D map of Milkavich province.

"For now, we are safe. The enemy attacks from the east, and has about 120 miles of forest between us and them. Small attacks have been succesful, but will only buy us time. We need to use the CBR weapons we have liberated from complex Zelphi."

"Meanwhile, we have confrimed that 20 000 men are now mobilising to move through the mountain gap into Polinas province. We will have to be fast to stop a counter-attack, but will not repeat the mistakes of the 1st war.

In it, over 40 000 of our brothers died. We will not let them sleep unaccomplished!"

A roar shook the building.

Strange things had been seen by villagers in the area. Men of strange skin colour, with weapons, had been wlaking around the forest. The communists had soon cottoned on, and were ready to start their small-scale attacks.

From deep in the undegrowth, and from high in the forest canopy, the guerillas came, quietly and quickly, surrounding the area of the troops. 212 men in total, all relying on hand signals from their comrade-sergeants for their tactics.

The circle slowly closed, then the shooting began: crude volleys from AK-47s and light chatters from the AF-07s.

So far, about 25 miles had been covered in the jungle. It had been painful, with many planes having to be brought out to search the trees with expensive sensors, wasting fuel and time.

The support from foreigners would hopefully make the situations better. But little did they know what was about to happen.

A missile shot through the air, accompanied by 5 more, aimed at the frontline of the advancing Alfegos troops. It was no secret Alfegos had weapons stationed around the entire country. But it was not known the extent that this had advanced to.

Luckily, most of the warheads had been incinerated before the rebels had overrun. But 5 in addition to those launched remained. Each one carried a potent strain of Q Fever, able to maim and incapacitate quickly. It would hopefully make the capitalists see their errors, and decide on a compromise.

High in the mountain passes that had been changed to hold massive road and rail networks, came the communists. In total, 15 000 men rode in this first wave, crammed into civilian, armoured and logistics lorries, along with cars, buses and other vehicles.

They crossed the border to the province, and sped past the service station there into the territory. It would be another 5 miles of mountain passes before they arrived on the flat green plains in the distance, split by silver ribbons that were the tributuries of the mighty Polinas river, swollen by rain still. They had come to take an area in which they thought was little military prescence: most military was concentrated in the Zevkhay province.

But they did not realise the scale of the Damirez prescence.

The unmarked black limousines of the Etoilian diplomatic convoy may have slipped discreetly into the Alfegosian government compound if not for the massive security operation mounted by their hosts. Robert Akone, Deputy Secretary General of the Unitary Technocracy, was soon being escorted by senior Alfegosian officers to the star chamber, in reality, a deep underground bunker. This was the price paid for by nations at way, reflected the technocract, as his escorts left him to walk the final steps through the final security door and into the chamber where he would meet and discuss the situation with his counterparts in the Alfegosian and Damirez governments.

“… those are your orders,” the commander ended his conversation with his field operatives. Reconnaissance pictures, combined with extensive satellite recon showed exactly what was happening with the communists. They were coming for Polinas, they were coming in numbers, but it would not be enough for them to stand a chance at attaining their objective.

The Principality had 75.000 soldiers in the province and the numbers were growing. To further this, the air wings and the naval Task force kept at all times near this area were about to give a decisive advantage to the Damiran operations.

“It is paramount to limit the loss of human life and infrastructure,” the words of the commander ringed in the minds of the soldiers. They knew that while this was a full fledged war by now, Alfegos would have to be rebuilt after this and The Principality knew how painful the rebuilding process was for a country.

The plan was relatively simple in terms of logistics and operations given the estimated strength of the opponent. One Mechanized division would be laying an ambush for the incoming forces halting the offensive while the air force delivered heavy hits to the lines with support from the navy.

With superior fire power and coordination the fight was estimated to last a small amount of time, but given the dedication of the communists, it was more than expected for them to keep coming, despite huge losses and lack of success. Besides, there was always the risk for them to retreat and regroup in the mountains.

To prevent this, another part of the plant came into effect. The mountaineer division present in Alfegos was going to move swiftly with heavy air support and cut their lines, leaving the communists stranded from their main forces. Furthermore once the encirclement was complete, elements from the remaining mech division were going to hit their flank, while, in a bold amphibious operation, the Special Assault Regiment was going to take them by surprise, attacking from the sea.

But the commander also knew that the Alfegan forces present in the province were small and that he had to assure troops ready to protect the rest of the region. As such, extensive reconnaissance missions took place in the area, while several brigades remained prepared to intervene wherever was needed.

A final concern of The Principality was a warning flag drawn by the previous experience here. Good men died then because of a chemical weapon. There was no guarantee that there wasn’t going to be a repeat of this and as such, they took measure to handle any similar attack.

The president met him

"I'm sorry, but you will have to come alone. This meeting place is only known to 10 people including myself. We do not want to comprosmise security.

May I also remind you that this meeting will not have happened. It is that secret."

The elevator cruised downwards to the 2 nd level, and then after security to the 3rd level. This repeated to the 6 th level, 120 metres underground.

Here, they walked out into a mahogany corridor with a cold marble floor and ceiling, with a crimson carpet rolling down to the single door at the end.

They walked there, and the president typed in a 50 digit code onto a pad, before going through 4 biometric scans.

They entered, and the president motioned the reps to sit down on mahoganys chair in the centre of the chamber.

"Twierdza" base.
The paratroopers continued fortifieng their position by adding sandbag bunkers as well as making the trench system more complex and secure.
More men were sent out on patrols, moving deeper into the area more with the intention of finding the enemy than just ensuring that he isn't in the area.

Il'Vi:
The IL transport planes bearing the checker board of the commonwealth airforce arrived. Altogether about forty thousand men were dispatched along with enough "Tur" transport vehicles to transprot their equipment. The men would be transported in "Rosomak" APC's.
The entire operation was overlooked by Arms-General Zovlak, pipe in teeth and aid a few steps behind. In truth the veteran general had trouble getting used to the sight of Commonwealth soldiers in "Tiger-Stripe" uniforms.
- 'Find out where the "Alfies" made our quarters, we might as well get as quick as possible and make sure that the boys get used to the climate.'
As if to strengthen his statement the general took off his "chapka" and wipped his brow with his cuff, before replacing the diamond shaped cap.
- 'And make sure that they know where not moving untill the men are used to the climate, God knows that enough campaigns were losed because of such a small thing.'

The land forces and Mi assualt copters unloaded on the designated areas. The airforce, consisting of a few dozen Su tactical bombers and MiG-29 fighters, stayed on the aircraft carriers to avoid "cluttering" the airbase at Il'Vi.

The aircraft carrier, HMPS Patricia with the Pinguinian troops was moving in from the east.

The fleet air arm of the RPN upon passing the island off to the east began to immediately prepare the helicopters for trnasporting the troops.

Half an hour later, the first regiment had touched down on Alfegan soil.
The 2nd Logistics Regiment assembled under the command of
Colonel FLATFOOT.
After about 2 hours, all the troops about 10,000 men had touched down and were assembling under the commanding officer, Maj.Gen Lionel Rockhopper.

At last they moved off towards the west in a fan-like manner. ROCKHOPPER planned to stay back on the shore at the mobile command base he set up.
He sent his troops North West and South West to form a pincer movement.

Captain John Wet-Weather in command of 1st Company (equipped with ASAWS), the 1st Armoured Battalion would hold back and wait for the command to go in.

Maj.Gen. ROCKHOPPER radioed in to the nearest Democratically controlled military base awaiting instructions on how to proceed.

The prefabbed biuldings, under the watchful eyes of the corprals, soon turned into a little part of Alsdair away from Alsdair. Watch duty was cunducted by a team near the gate, beside which a sign appeared stating;
"Camp Knights Cross"
A much smaller sign stated:
"For Sale".

A flagpole was erected in the middle of the clearing in the center of the base bearing the commonwealth colors, not far away was a signpost pointing out (and informing how far to) various cities.
But what really described the base as a base was the thousands of men currently undergoing aclimatisation which, in the method of the Commonwealth, could be seen as sadism.
- 'Again! C'mon pansies! This is Sambo! Not box! A blow is to kill your enemy, nothing less! AGAIN!'
The company, in full combat gear, did as ordered and did the combat strike again, and again. Sweat poured off of them but they continued, what else was there to do?
Others were also training, running around the camp, practicing bayonet combat or at the rifle range.
Those not training were either on sentry duty, making the camp more suited for military use or resting, following the old military rule that you sleep when you can and wake up when forced to.

The tanks had stopped for the night. They would stay up all night watching the surrounding area for the guerillas who ahd disappeared everytime they had attacked.

They hoped this would not turn into the meatgrinder familiar in the 1st Alfegan civil war of 1951, when over 80 000 men had died in the forests and deadlands.

The Army of The Principality was a patient army. They always knew that waiting made things much better when they finally got in the middle of them. As such, it was not a problem for the Army Corps detached in Alfegos to wait a few more hours for the communist forces to exhaust their fuel and be ripe for the picking. Intel showed that the commies had little to no idea about what presence Damirez had in the area. They would die on their own hands.

Alpha Mechanized Division.

“Enemy spotted at position X, awaiting orders,” a communication officer from the most advanced point of the frontline reported to his superior officer.

“Prepare to open fire, wait for the signal.” Similar conversations were taking place all around the lines as soldiers anxiously awaited the moment when they’ll finally see action. It wasn’t a bravado or a desire for bloodshed, it was just a general desire to get thing over and they intended to make them last only for a bit.

In the skies above Alfegos, planes of The Principality also received their final orders and as one attacked the advancing communist troops.

“Take this!” the pilots, amused by the lack of AA defenses mouthed at the helpless communists as the bombs fell. It was a cheap way of having fun and the pilots knew they’ll be getting a lot of it here.

“Ok men,” a sergeant spoke to his soldiers, “That’s the signal,” he said at the sound of countless bombs falling on the enemy soldiers. And if the commies thought that was bad, they had yet to see the full wrath of the Damiran artillery.

There was no chance for commies using buses and trucks against the hell the enemy delivered. To make things worse, The Principality infantry started the offensive. It was not hard to overrun a confused and decimated enemy and soon, on the same roads used by the commies in their great offensive, the Damirans pushed towards the mountain pass.

Beta Mountaineer Division.

“Go,” the squad commander whispered to his teammate. They were climbing a dangerous mountain in what was the second part of the plan. They were to secure the mountain pass and clear any resistance in the mountains.

It was not all that hard, but, like all good soldiers, they knew they had to be prepared for everything.

There was also the secondary objective of the division, assigned to them after they received some valuable intel from the Alfegosians regarding an abandoned bunker complex. They had to isolate it and find a way to breach it should it be occupied by the enemy.

Once the missiles launched by the air force hit, they attacked the enemy without mercy taking advantage of the general confusion in their ranks and moving to squish any opposition.

Special Assault Brigade.

Perhaps the most important part of the plan was the task undertook by the SAB. In a daring amphibious attack, they were to strike the enemy lines from behind and cut the forces in the mountains from the main Red contingent.

With heavy support from the fleet and countless bombs dropped on the enemies, already confused by the attacks coming from all sides they pushed forward, cracking any resistance.

At the end of the day, the enemy suffered under the combined might of Damiran artillery and air force while the Damirans pressed forward.

The main concern was now the bunkers, already confirmed as teeming with reds, but plans were already made for that.

At last they came to a mountain clearing large enough to launch the UAV-

- Signals would be broadcast directly to the command post back at shore with Maj Gen using the images to instruct his troops. Information would be relayed to the nearest Alfegosian command post and any other supporting nation who requests intelligence -

The crew and men of the HMS Galileo were reboarding, and repacking. They would head up the coast, west, to reach the main encampment in Il'Vi. However, they already launched Protractors remained up and running.

Il'Vi:
The airborne Faxanavian forces had landed at Il'Vi, and were unloading. The forces rolled out from their various transports, and weapons and artillery were unpacked. They prepped to move out and reclaim the forest.

Faxanavian forces were now marching east. The 25,000 troops that had come by cargo aircraft had arrived prepared. Each man was armed, and artillery had been brought in for the pending assault.

Division Leader Sgt. Gabriel Grayson marched ahead of his troops. he observed, with some distaste, the hot Alfegos climate. Faxanavians did not do heat. Faxanavia was chilly, at best. However, they would have to put up with it.

The forces headed east, hoping to meet either the Alfegos forces or the communists. They'd get their wish- one way or another.

The tempo of Etolian operations accelerated into the night. The assembly areas outside Mik'ri buzzing with a quad tiltrotor arriving or departing every minute, all under the control of special forces combat controllers who directed the traffic from a field command post. As soon as mechanised units had been landed they had been ordered to secure all the routes from Mik'ri to Milkavich for fifty kilometres around, while other patrols scoured the Alfegosian countryside inbetween for enemy patrols. High above, fighter patrols did the same.

In Mik'ri itself, the local civil police were cruising the streets with loudhailers to reassure the inhabitants that had been awoken by the aircraft roaring overhead and the strange vehicles appearing in their streets. Those bleary-eyed civilians who tuned to their TV, radio and internet would be shocked to learn of the civil war unfolding in their nations. Whether they were reassured by the foreign troops on their soil that had come to aid them was another matter altogether.

Far to the south the operation at Mik'ri was being reproduced in the city of Vich'olvi as more Etoilian forces inserted from the air. The civil police hurriedly declared curfew and sealed off the inner city to allow unobstructed traffic for mechanised units being flown in by the single long runway of the city airport. Four engine Airbus A340M airlifters disgorged Talon+ infantry fighting vehicles. Soon the airport was ringed by armour and SLAMRAAM launchers, whole more armour thundered through the streets and directly down the main highways out of the city to secure more routes towards Milkavich. The limit of advance would be forty clicks from the rebel stronghold until the remainder of the IX Expeditionary Army and its heavy armour was inn place to launch the first offensive towards the communist stronghold.

Meanwhile, hundreds of kilometers away in the Alfegosian capital, Deputy Secretary General Robert Akone took his seat in the Star Chamber and waited for the meeting to begin.

It had been a long journey, but finally the first ships landed their troops to the south of the communist occupied province. A camp was quickly constructed and scouts moved forward to clear the area around the camp. 1st Brigade, 4th Armoured Division took only 5 hours to completely disembark from the ships, a huge feat considering all the equipment they had brought. Leopard tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles took over for the scout LAVs on the perimeter of what would be the main camp for the Horizon troops. 2 more brigades would soon arrive. At that point, the various regiments would deploy forward and setup their individual field command posts and camps. For now, until ordered otherwise by Alfegos, they would remain well south of the front line.

Just outside of Alfegosian waters, the carrier group of the HMHS Battle Royal and HMHS Royal Nimitz aircraft carriers was standing by. To the north, the carrier group supporting the Pa'atuan people had removed the support aircraft from their decks and readied their fighter squadrons. In this group, each of the two carriers had reduced strength, only carrying 1 squadron each, as their initial role had only been humanitarian aid of the Pa'atuans. However, if needed, both carrier groups combined had more then enough aircraft to support the Horizon Army and Alfegosian personnel if they were needed.

The Communist Dominion of Stoklomolvi recognises the authorisation of carpet bombing, and will attempt to flush out the rebels using Bushwacker H-12 High Explosive Bombs and Archon P-9 Napalm Bombs. Any vehicles trvelling thorugh here would have to use the small tracks scattered throughout the rainforest, all linking little villages to each other.

The missiles had not much effect on the Nakil tanks, but Humvees were destoryed badly. The army halted for the day since it was impossible to got through there without backup. The Greal army pulled out of the forest and while Shark fighters blasted the whole forest with missiles.

While Captain Skall watched his men get ready for the mountain fighting, another captain form a different division came over.

"I'm captain Daniel Vrin from the 3rd battalion.'he said as he held out his hand.

Later, the Greal 56th corps was on the move, the put very strong men on the flanks, no Guerilla attack was going to slow them down. The 56th corps had seen action around the world in the last few months, only half the corps had any rest. But The civil war might be different...

The base set up it was a matter of ensuring that enemy couldn't launch a surprise assualt.
Patrols were doubled, each one had enough fire power to defeat a force several times their number. The problem was that no matter how long they spent their, they still had less "feel" of the land than the locals. However they were elite soldiers and they learned quickly. At places that seemd to be communication lines used by the enemy they would set up ambushes, waiting for days if nescessary.
When Sikorski helicopters came to pick up the casualties of the attack every soldier was was placed at stations in the base and in the forest sorounding it, the evacuation of the wounded was cunducted succesfully.
Now what remained was to find the enemy and force them to fight.

Back on HMPS Patricia, the 1st Parachute Battalion were boarding 18 large helicopters. Thousand nervous faces looked at Lt. Col. MARSH.

2 Kansiov SU-47 Berkuts were circling over the jungle. They were not used to the immense jungle they saw, they never seen so much green in Kansiov before. They unloaded their payload, to what was known as 'Hostile' randomly. About 6 Bombs fell from the under belly of the plane, at high alititude, all of them carrying Naplam warheads. The pilots didn't really made an effort to see what they hit. They just radioed, "Mission Accomplish, bomb site destroyed." They headed back, to HMS Scarbozi, a Kansiovian Carrier.

Meanwhile the 7th Fleet and the 7th Battlion of the Волк Леопарда (3rd) Marine Division along with 1000 Airport construction and airport ground crew were getting ready, landing in the provience of Polinas, and setting up a basic Airbase and HQ there, North of the Damirez's base. There was constant activity in the fleet. Just before the 2 SU-47s landed, a UF-8/R took off, its mission was to fly low and take as many photographs of Rebel Defenses. it flew at Mach 1.2 its crusing speed. Over Milkavich, it slowed down to sub-sonic speed, opened up its bomb bay, however there was no bomb, only 5 Cameras, taking mutiple pictures at the same time. It was valuable for Kansiovian Bombers to know what they are bombing. A Kansiovian satellite was also imbound of Alfegos, to provide 24 coverage over the battlefield for the marines who had GPS system. Only 500 were landing in the first wave, however it was said that Mutiple Artillery Brigades were inbound, mainly the KNG-1 Stormgun which was well know for be able to fire a nuclear warhead. However it would not be carrying any Nukes for this mission, it would carry mainly Naplam shells, along with high explosive rounds, that are effective against infantry.

Coupled with supposed 24 hour ground coverage from the satellite, the relaunched UAV now back at the high altitude this time above the Kansiovan bombers was gliding in a circle over the forest area.

The bombs fell silently, twisting as the air rushed passed.

The first bomb hit a target location. ROCKHOPPER was called in to see the screen operated by a corporal.

"Zoom in zoom in. Let me see?" commanded ROCKHOPPER.

A small encampment with the communist flag barely visible but clear all the same due to the definite scythe symbol had been almost obliterated with many injured troops lying on the ground and others running around in panic.

"Fantastic, that'll spare us some trouble."

The Admiral picked up the radio and said, "Release Бомба Медведя, all units stay clear of sector 0102. This goes to all allied or international troops in the area stay clear of sector 0102." A Tu-95 Bear flying at 30,000ft,carried a $21,500,000 Bomb, a 20,000kg JDAM bomb was headed Straight for the Government house in Milkavich, what known to be from the Photos as a place with extreme tons of Rebel activity.

"Lets see what they say about that." he mumbled, after it was dropped.

@ Alfegos: I now prefer to use Etoilian rather than Arcturian to describe my people.

By daybreak Etoilian forces had full control of the west coast of Milkavich, stretching from the Mountains of the Midon to the Mik'vi River, with reconnaisance forces pushing on towards the Mountains of Solace. The original air assault battalions of the first expeditionary brigades to land at Mik'vi and Vich'olvi had now been reinforced by mechanised units riding in M344 Wolverine APCs. Integrated armour units that had been flown into the airport at Vich'olvi were now displacing quickly along the Vich'olvi to Milkavich freeways to take up blocking positions to the south of the enemy held city.

Along the Mik'vi River the 103 and 105 Expeditionary Brigades, with APCs, anti-armour vehicles and mobile SLAMRAAM launchers, moved along both banks of the river. Beyond where the mighty Fegos river met the smaller Mik'vi, UCAVs carrying 2,000 lb JDAMs begun to bomb every bridge to sever all communications. Joint Command knew from their Alfegosian allies that a Communist force had crossed the river during the night before allied forces could interdict them, and these actions would now effectively isolate them. The two brigades quickly took up their own blocking positions, turning the rivers into natural obstacles while relying on their tiltrotor fleets for any future rapid displacements.

Back at the mouth of the river where it lead into the Sea of the Sun the massive sea port at Mik'vi had seen a massive amphibious invasion as the transport fleet of the Etoilian Maritime Force arrived. Into the late afternoon the 23, 24 and 25 Heavy Divisions were landed. In short order, the 23rd and 24th advanced quickly into the area now marked in Etoilian operations maps as the Salient, a triangular zone flanked on two sides by the Great Fegos Rainforest. With speed at the essence the Cataphract main battle tanks of the heavy divisions also took the freeway route, with reconnaisance units at least a few kilometres ahead and tiltrotor gunships and strike aircraft above to protect them from ambush. The wave of armour, over 20,000 troops and nearly 300 tanks, were tasked with attacking the Salient from the north via the international airport.

In the centre was a single integrated armour brigade, the 205, reinforced by the motorised 104 Expeditionary Brigade, while in the south two Expeditionary Brigades, the 107 and 119, would complete a pincer movement to surround Milkavich in all directions. The centre and south forces had the most difficult terrain to traverse on the fringes of the Great Fegos. Their slow progress was compensated by the time it took the two heavy divisions to assemble at their own start positions for the attack on Milkavich.

Throughout the day only light resistance was encountered by the advancing units, small skirmishes flaring up at farms and small villages to vainly try and stop or slow down the advance. In remote areas and open terrain the Etoilian ground units could easily sweep away any resistance by calling in air strikes. Things were more complex when the communists made their stand in populated areas along the route of march. Rules of engagement restricted lethal fires near civilians and stressed minimal collateral damage to civilian infrastructure. The main forces were ordered to bypass in such circumstances and the pockets of resistance were isolated and left to elite air assault troops to mop up.

Several villages now became sites of intense fighting. Without air power to dislodge the defenders, assault troops entered into close quarters battles to take the villages. While the bravery of the communists had to be grudgingly admired holding out against such odds, in the greater scheme of things such actions achieved next to nothing in the aim of stopping or slowing the inexorable progress of the IX Expeditionary Army. By nightfall on the first full day of operations, the Etoilians had 70,000 troops on the ground, with 50,000 alone surrounding Milkavich.

Even as reports came in of CBR weapons being used to the east and fierce fighting between Damirez and communist forces in Polinas, the Etoilians attacked the city without a pause. Four "Clarion" UCAVs infiltrating the air defence system dropped CBU-94 Blackout Bombs to disable the cities power stations and power grids. With the city plunged into darkness, more Clarions made bombing runs on the airport, while small diameter bombs were dropped on key buildings taken over by the communists, beginning with the TV, radio and ISPs. Tactical air decoys were launched over the city to confuse the air defences and force radar sites to reveal themselves, which the Clarions could then be tasked by their operators to bomb.

Thirty minutes into the air raids a second wave of manned F/A-38A Sentinel multi-role fighters flying direct from Etoile Arcture begun dropping 2,000 lb JDAMs on communist positions surrounding and inside the city. What remaining air defences there were were still too confused by thermal and radar decoys to detect any of the low observable aircraft. The first anyone on the ground knowing of an attack being the fireball of another bomb hit rising into the sky as a JDAM struck. Frightened civilians huddled in their homes lstening to the sound of battle echoing across their city, now a crescendo. As air attacks became continuous.

Without even ordering a pause in the air strikes, the go order was received by the commanders of the 23 and 24 Heavy Divisions to begin their attack. Having skirted around the city earlier in the day, the armour units now charged across the low plain that the international airport had been built on. The first many of the communist units defending the sector knew of the attack was when their tanks and APCs were hit by 120 mm gun fire. Firing on the move, the tanks took only five minutes to cross the plain, using electric power alone on their hybrid-electric power plants. Turbines only being kicked in as they hit the tarmac, and infantry begun to dismount from the mechanised companies to attack those defenders remaining in the airport terminals.

To the south, the communists were equally taken aback by the ferocity and suddenness of the Etoilian assault there. Certain that layered defensive minefields and defilade positions could hold back any attack, once the Clarions had dealt with nearly every radar-guided SAM system for a hundred kilometres around, UCAVs and strike fighters begun systematically clearing corridors through the communist defence lines. The APCs of the 107 and 119 quickly burst through and enfiladed defenders at several points along the line, pouring withering fires that cut the defenders to shreds. The only serious losses suffered by the Expeditionary Brigades was a single company advancing too quickly into the city that it lost contact with friendly units and was ambushed, loosing nearly half its vehicles before falling back.

Even with air power the attack in the centre was not going entirely as planned either. The integrated armour units, with their mix of IFVs and assault tanks, were getting bogged down in the terrain. They were simply unable to keep up with the pace of attacks elsewhere. Attack tiltrotors were hurriedly deployed to protect them and it seemed the 205 and 104 would have a real fight to get into the city.

As those units struggled in their attack, the two heavy divisions took only 90 minutes to secure the airport and were now only ten minute's drive away from the city centre via the central expressway. Quad tiltrotors begun inserting air assault troops that would do the majority of the close quarters fighting. While in the centre and south the expeditionary forces continued to fight their way into the city to where the plan called for them to link up once they reached the city centre.

Anything had could be laid into had been. Labs had been raided, and nuclear material along with biological straings had been found.

4 Missiles launched: 2 at the advancing forces in the forest, and two at the capital of New Zevkhay. Each was an ordinary explosive missile, but filled in extra space with Radium, Yttrium, Iodine and other radioactive materials. To add to the potency, the rest of the Q-Fever found had been poured into the missiles in the empty spaces, to add tot he potential affect.

The complex was then abandoned, and shut with explosives.

Hie'Ros Bunker City

Cut into the side of the mountain was a legacy from the first civil war. It had been closed off at the end, but secretly it had been reopened, and retaken by the communists.

Leading 1200 metres into the mountain, following a massive natural cave sustem, were hundred of bunkers, built by the communists in the 50's as a defence. It held the 30 surviving fighters, as well as a force of 20 000 men who had been evacuated from the city, the civilans left to their own fate.

The mountain was filled with munitions and supplies. If they needed to, the forces could hold out for a century.

The leader arrived, and quickly strolled to his office.

"Tell the forces we have in the forest to keep on fighting. They will last longer than us."

20 000 men remained in the forest,w ith an assortment of firearms and munitions, ranging from AF-07s to muskets. But they still made hit-and run attacks on any forces found.

Soon, they knew they would be flushed out. BUt it would take time. Not if they wanted to keep the forest.

The Mountains of the Moon

There were 5000 men spread across the mountain range. They watched from telescopes as the forces of Greal and Pinguinium crawled across the mountains, trying to root out the communists from the deep caves and high peaks.

They were almost exclusivly armed with 7.62 rifles, each scoped to allow for long-range shooting of any enemies that came their way.

30 Helicopters flew across the forest and into the paratrooper forward base. They were carrying supplies and prefabbed defences for the small base, as well as fire support for clearing the area.

The forces stationed in the city were deemed ready to move out. A foreward base of operations was established along with temporary airfield in which transport crafts could bring supplies and remove the casualties. It was fortified so even a small force would be able to hold it.
From there large amounts of foot patrols would move into the jungle, slowly clearing it. It was hard work as even a single sniper could hold up a patrol for a while. But with superior equipment, grim determination and overwhelming fire power the Commonwealth troops continued to clear the area, slowly making a path towards the paratroopers forward base.
Casualties were recieved, two men were killed and a dozen others were wounded. It was almost impossible to count the enemy dead. Folowing standard guerrila methods they took their casualties with them to deny the enemy the sight of their success.

Against the WMBs the Alsdairian soldiers reacted the only way they could, by putting on their gasmasks and hiding in trenches/bunkers where possible. If caught in the open they laid down, hands underneath them and feet towards the detonation. After wards it was a matter of putting on the rest of the NBC gear and recieving various "anti" shots.
All units were put on stand-by. folowing military protocal a WMD strike should be followed by a mass offensive.

The Pinguinian and Faxanavian forces finally met up and both Fld. Cdr. RYKER and Brig. Gen. FLIPPING shook hands.

It has two modes: Fan, which emits a sonic beam over a wide fan-like area; or a more powerful linear beam that emits a single narrow sonic beam direct in front.

In New Zevkahy, alarms sounded as the missiles were picked up. That was immediately followed by the public air-raid sirens turning on, leading to the repetitive whistles of patriot missile batteries.

Soon, the missiles were intercepted. It was sad there were no such batteries installed up in the forest.

The few guerillas who had been in the area as the missiles hit saw it as a signal to attack.

Forgetting any training, they rushed the forces, firing off rounds from assorted weapons, before laying into the enemy with blunt weapons and knives.

The Pinguinium force front was seen through the spotter scopes. A hand raised. 500 bolts clicked back, loading 7.62 or .50 calibre rounds.

The hand fell. 800 metres away, the volley hit home. Then the order came for standard fire rate: one round every 6 seconds. The repetitive clicks of the bolts echoed from behind rocks, underneath vegetation and from inside fissures. They were all concealed in camoflauge paints and clothes, to hide their forms form being spotted until it was too late.

A pounding of bullets came from amongst the trees. The communist units were adavancing fast with agility and had reached past the forward front.
About 10 men were mowed down and 5 were badly injured.

Capt. SQUARK shouted "Position ASAWS, engage switch, mode fan. Wait, wait wait: PULSE." He then ordered the equipment to be moved closer just level with the injured troops. "Get those troops back here now, send them up to Camp Two."

A rustling was heard in the undergrowth. Communist troops moved close but stopped abruptly dropping their guns and putting their hands to their ears.
This sound was truly unbearable. Being behind the ASAWS, the Pinguinian troops were unaffected. "Get down, lie low" commanded SQUARK.

Prepared the Commonwealth soldiers took a high toll on the assualting reds.
Cross fires of M-16 carbines and SAW's scythed down assualting forces. With growing surprise the Alsdairians saw the red continue the assault. The first line was abandoned and the men fell to the second line under covering fire.
Despite what one may think taking the trenches was not a success, the mortar crews knew exactly where to place their volley that way.
Breathing heavily through their masks the soldiers were shocked to see the enemy continue theri assualt, but held their ground.
This time they met the enemy head on, using bayonets, buts, sambo and shovels.
An alsdarian shovel is a solid wooden handle rammed into the metal. A solid construction 50 cm long. The blade itself is 18 cm long, 15 wide. The edges are sharpened to a razor edge. It is the perfect tool for digging in and shattering skulls. A Commonwealth soldier goes through extensive trainings to use everything as a lethal weapon.
Suppresing fire was laid on other reds from SAW's, mortars and sniper rifles.

The airforce was informed as well as allied command. With a shriek the Su tactical bombers took off, followed by MI assualt copters. Sikorski copters were prepared as reinforcements were mobilized for the outpost.
The enemy had finaly come and the Alsdarians would be damned if they got away without cursing the day they decided on such a move.

The soldiers charging at the Alisdairians were mown down by machine gun fire. Any that got thorugh were beaten to death quickly.

After 10 minutes, there were no more communists charging. 456 men lay dead on the ground, and only a few lay wounded. The few who had stayed back looked on with horror. They had no way of overwhelming these foreigners. It was obviously true that they were going to lose...

Shock. That was the best way to describe what the Asldarians felt. The last time they had seen something like this was during their unsuccesful intervention in south-east asia.
The paratroopers moved back to their positions, anybody wounded was taken to the rear and readied for evac.
Casualties were still being counted but it was obvious it would excede 20 dead and wounded, and with the WMD used lately meant that the wounded were in peril of joining the dead.
At the moment the men were too busy securing their positions and only a few patrols were sent to clear the sorounding jungle. A true action would be carried out when the reinforcements would arrive. ETA 5 minutes. Though the Su's were already circling, annoyed that they had no target.

The Alfegos helicopters landed as the fighting stopped. The first two that landed carried medical teams, and were ready to rush teh wounded to the nearest hospital in il'Vi.

The next few helicopters that landed carried in total 40 soldiers, and a VIP - A Major-General in the army lept out in similar CBR warfare clothing to greet the leader there.

Behind him, the wounded were removed as prefabbed barracks and fortifications were dropped form the sky, along with ammo and food crates.

The command was given to open fire on into position. It was clear now where these troops were as gasps of surprise and pain reached the ears of the Pinguinian forces.

Several rounds of fire reined upon the few troops that still managed to advance.

"ASAWS - Transition switch - Mode linear - PULSE" ordered SQUARK as he waved his hand towards the undergrowth"

A high-powered sonic wave blasted towards the rocks and held.

IC: The Communists militia were coming hard, and fast. From the advancing allied lines, Faxanavian PPSh's added to the confusion and pain supplied by the Pinguinum sonic weapon. Faxanavian infantry hurled flash bangs from their artillery belts, adding to the confusion amongst the already disoriented communists. Moving outwards in a pincer formation, they infantry opened fire into the few still advancing soldiers.

3 miles off of the Alfegan coast, the Kiravian Assault Ships and their escorts moved forward. The frontal bays of the Assault ships yielded to the seawater, launghing landing ships into the ocean.

The 15th, 8th, and 32nd Regiments of the Tropical Combat Legion hit the Alfegan eastern beach at noon. The Imperials ran onto the sand, firing rounds into the jungle. After recieving no retaliatory fire, the other troops, supplies, and vehicles were unloaded.

By the next day, the shore base had been set up, and the first expeditions set off in jeeps, into the tropical forest.

A group of Kiravians crouched behind a mound of plants. They heard rumbling in the near distance. Cocking their weapons, they waited for their quarry to come closer. A supply truck came rumbling down the rainforest path, followed by 10 others, and escorted by a group of COmmunists.

The Kiravians fired. The guards were taken out quickly, and the trucks easily hijacked. The victorious soldiers lined up the drivers on the ground.

"Spare them!", ordered an officer, "They have done nothing. Knowing communists, they're probably just peasants conscripted by the rebellion. Cuff them and put 'em in the trucks."

WIth their prisoners secure, the comandeered trucks rolled back to the Imperial base.

Around the right hand side of the Pinguinium forces came antoher 500 men, who then let rip, some this time with automatics.

The Greal elite division quickly rushed into the rebel occupied forest. The Greal troops had bulletproof vests thick enough to deflect most rifles fire. Captain Skall lead his Platoon into the forest, Greal troops drew their M16s as they entered the forest and they also put on their heat goggles to see if any rebels are near by.

The plan was drawn up quickly. 2nd Brigade would move up and link up with the Pinguinum and Faxanavian forces. 1st and 3rd Brigades would be held in reserve for the moment. The Leopard tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles would lead the charge, carrying infantry with them. In behind, the recce LAVs would be used to ferry supplies to the front, as it was deemed to dangerous for logistics vehicles to travel through the forest. At the field HQ would also be the artillery, made up of Archer gun systems. (OOC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARCHER_Artillery_System)

As the Brigade reached it's jump off point, the field HQ was setup. The troops and armour moved forward to physically link up with the other foreign forces. Meanwhile, the brigade commander called both the Pinguinum and Faxanavian forces to coordinate his troops movements.

He didn't like the idea of chasing the rebels into the forests. There they could use hit and run tactics to try to limit their losses. The fastest way to defeat the rebels would be a prolonged head to head confrontation, which the forest was not suited for. He wanted to draw the rebel forces out of the forests and confront them in more open terrain where it wouldn't be so easy for them to run and hide. If only they could come up with a tactic to draw them out...

The Greal; troops fired into the trees, even a fighter blasted the trees with its machine guns. Captain Skall took cover behind a boulder. 5 of his men were dead. He fired his PGL (Pistol Grenade Launcher.) at the trees which he saw a rebel on. The Greal troops fired at the trees that had rebels on.


OOC: They can see the rebels because they are wearing goggles called Heat goggles which sees Humans.

A Bomb was dropped on the part of the forest that had rebels running through. The Greal troops followed them by looking through the goggles, Greal Nakil tanks arrived and blasted the rebels retreat line with machine guns and the Nakil ETC gun.

The President Athanasius Ilius leaned back in his chair and looked out across the Capital Bouranburg, and found it funny that once dictators held military parades down its streets. As he stared out the window, someone knocked at the door.

"Mr President I have some news from Alfegosia!", It was the Military Chief of Rogernomics, the President recognised his familiar voice.

"Come in!" Athanasius said still looking out the window, the Military Chief walked up to the President and spoke quietly in his ear, "It is time to begin Operation Deaths Door".

The President sighed, "Go ahead, get it over with, make sure you bring us back something nice."

The Military Chief walked out with an evil grin on his face, he thought "now it is time", the President was tired but the Military Chief walked off with a smile, what had he planned?

What's the other range called?

Managed to repel them with ASAWS. Where do these people get weapons? There must be thousands of alliance soldiers here. These communists must be very cunning and conscipting every living soul in their area. Poor sods"

The PKA and Faxanavian forces met up with Horizon Island on the mountain side.
Despite the surpise atttack from the side of the Pinguinum forces, no one was hit as they were all lying low. With the ASAWS still running, the ASAWS operator switched the dial to H2 and engaged the communist troops. One short high intensity pulse penetrated the group and they immediately scattered. The troops directly in the line fell to the ground in immense pain.

The Faxanavians added their own confusion, in the form of hurled grenades. Flash bangs went off, and loud, explosive filled eggs cleaned what few eardrums were not already down and out. Finally, the soldiers began firing into the communists, hoping to take down those who weren't.

He turned off the comm and turned back to the general;

After a few hundred meters he presented him to a senior man in full battle dress talking with the mortar crews there. The lieutenant said something and the man turned around, saluted and said;

Deployments of the Etoile Arcture IX Expeditionary Army as of day 2 of combat operations

103 Expeditionary Brigade, 105 Expeditionary Brigade: holding both banks of the Mik'vi up to where it meets the Fegos River south of the Mountains of Solace. Two battalions of the 103 are fighting die-hard separatists in villages along the river valley.

25 Heavy Division: holding Mik'vi and its sea port at the mouth of the Mik'vi river, with three of the five manouevre battalions on the Mik'vi to Milkavich freeway. Drvarskan forces are invited to use Mik'vi Harbour as their port of entry.

23 Heavy Division, 24 Heavy Division: main thrust of attack on Milkavich, secured the airport overnight and will secure the ring road and city centre soon. The airport can already be used for vertical replenishment and inserting reinforcements.

107 Expeditionary Brigade, 119 Expeditionary Brigade: attacked Milkavich from the south-east. Plans call for them to link up with the 23 Heavy Division in the city centre during the day.

205 Integrated Armour Brigade Battle Group, 104 Expeditionary Brigade: still bogged down in fighting in the western suburbs of Milkavich.

217 Integrated Armour Brigade Battle Group: holding Vich'olvi, its airport and environs.

All aircraft are being flown into theatre direct from Etoile Arcture. All types of aircraft (ground attack, air superiority, UCAV) are loitering in the skies above. Dual and quad tiltrotors are providing vertical replenishment and battlefield medevac.

The tanks of the two heavy divisions were taking up blocking positions along the ring road surrouding the city and choke points leading in and out, with the other division heading directly into the city centre from the airport. The communist hold on the city had shrunken to a pocket in the western suburbs, but this was causing the most concern amonst the general staff of the Joint Command. The two attacking brigades were beginning to suffer mounting casualties. With the knowledge of the entry of Drvarskan forces into the conflict, the Joint Command despatched an urgent message to the Drvarskan headquarters to reinforce the western attack with one of their Jager divisions. A second division was requested to insert from the airport, where it would try to break through the western suburb from the east supported by two manouvre battalions of 23 Heavy Division. The new battle plans were encoded and sent to the Drvarskans for their approval.

The bombs rained down in the forest, setting some patches on fire. Then, the afternoon rainstorms started. At first, just small amounts of water fell. Then came a torrent, and then a waterfall as the water fell from the sky.

The rebels hid in trenches dug deep in the bushes, waiting for an oppertunity to kill the foreigners.

The Alisdair camp

The rain started there as the casualties were removed, and the prefabbed dome-shaped buildings were set up, on stilts as was jungle procedure.
They were connected up to sewerage units, and were in total able to hold 1000 men with 4 equipment stores, an assembly hall and a comms station.

Each unit could hold 2 squads, and was about 6 metres across, and 6 metres high, with two floors.

The general greeted the colonel.

The rain continued to pour. Shutters on some buildings creaked in the winds. In all, the city was completely silent. Women, children and those who hadn't gone to fight lay in their houses, frightened of what would happen.

On the edge of the city, the few men, around 300, left, were dispersed amongst buildings and hidden in the bushes. These men were armed with .50 cal rifles taken form the central police HQ and the army base. They lay absolutely still, waiting for any enemies, to blow them away. They would use the scare tactics familiar to them to defeat this enemy

THe core Kiravian troops were moving further inland. The Communist snipers had caused light, yet reasonbly considerable losses.

The 800 or so men of the advance groups, however, were at the front lines.
Hidden behind foliage and entrenched in streambeds, They fired rounds into thw jungle and were answered. Slowly but surely, they were moving forward.

An Ifijan colonist, Private Ilrin Palmforest was used to the dense jungle. WHat he was not used to however, was being rained on by shells. A grenade detonated 20 yards afore him, sneding flaming sticks and crisping leaves flying. "They're getting closer!" he yelled.

An NCO asked the command officer, "Should we retreat sir? There's a slope futher back that we could fortify and hold."

"No, Icefield. We'll hold here. You five! Get to the top of that tree. Pick off whoever you can. The rest of yis, ready the machine guns!"

The sound of crunching plant material under Communist boots could be heard by Kiravian soldiers as they raised the Imperial Star over their small stronghold. Its beautiful silver and emerald green would soon be stained by blood and marred by bullets.

The Jäger divisions were now in Milkavich and engaged in combat. The 500 rebels met the full force of 30,000 well trained soldiers.

In the west of Milkavich the Jägers took an ambush but with the cover of some rubble and buildings they managed to get passed with minimal losses. The Jäger sharpshooters seemed to be effective as they picked off the rebels one by one from rooftops and windows.

At the airport the 1st Jäger division moved forward along with some forces of Etoile Arcture onto the remaining rebels. A heavy firefight began.

As its engines stopped the Navy Commander, walked out onto the deck to greet the pilots of the helicopter gunships, a podium had been set up and was waiting, he walked to the podium and began to speak.

"Our peaceful nation is untried in the ways of combat, but I have supreme confidence in you. Simulations from our own civil war should help you here, but be aware of the ever scheming snipers. You shall head for the mountains and make a sneak attack on the rebel bases there, this is a secret mission, and if I look at my watch it begins now! Make our nation proud, long live our Republic!"

A resounding applause was heard among the crew, but some were still uneasy about what was to come. The pilots raced to their helicopters to begin the assault, as the helicopters took off they looked like a swarm of black wasps with their missiles as their stings; and the blades were their threatening sound.

The communists advancing through the foliage on gorund level were not the only ones. Silently, in the trees within the deep canopy, lay more men: about 80 in total. As the Kirav soldier climbed up the tree, one of them drew a knife.

"Going somewhere?"

The Kirav soldier fell screaming out of the tree, landing 15 metres below wiht a sickening crunch.

Then the gun fire and grenade dropping started.

On a rooftop on the outskirts, on man was standing, holding a Stinger Missile launcher. He aimed the sights at the incoming planes, fired off the missile and dived for cover inside the building.

Around the city, assorted shots rang out erractically, as the snipers took shots at any officers or NCOs. That would scare them.

They had also set traps around the city: from landmines to a simple grenade left in a can and controlled by a tripwire. How would they find the advance thorugh the city against an invisible enemy?

Two Regiments moved forward into the forest on their way to the city. Meanwhile, batteries of artillery prepared for their part of the operation. They would lay down fire in the rebel held areas of the forest to cover the advance of the troops. At 0300 hours, the archer self propelled guns deployed. The automated guns took only seconds to deploy and only minutes to fire off their first barrage of 20 rounds each. Crews rushed to reload the automated magazines with the next 20 rounds. It was 0315 hours when the next barrage was fired. Forward observers and UAVs monitored the impacting rounds, a mix of airburst and high explosive shells, all gps guided.

By mid-afternoon the encirclement of Milkavich had been completed. The airport, ring road, city centre and freeways were all secure, and all but the western suburbs of the city pacified. By and large precision guided weapons and the careful use of fires had minimised the level of collateral damage to the city, though many government buildings used by the communists now stood in ruins thanks to precision bombing. Every road junction now seemed to have at least two main battle tanks or an IFV platoon holding them, and vehicle patrols imposed curfews on the street.

The Joint Command had received reports of communists deserting their posts during the early phase of the battle the night before. The dozens of tanks and APCs destroyed during the charge by the two heavy divisions into the airport were found to lack any sign of dead crews, and a similar picture had been seen during the assault through the southern suburbs. The Joint Command was forming the opinion that large numbers of communist forces had either deserted their posts en masse, or exfiltrated in large numbers from the city prior to the battle, probably in small groups to avoid detection by overflying UAVs.

But a die-hard communist pocket remained in the western suburbs of Milkavich, and these seemed to contain the most determined resistance. The 205 and 104 brigades had their route of escape blocked, and the Joint Command drew up a new plan with the assistance of Drvarskan officers. ROE restrictions imposed by the Alfegosians ruled out the use of air and artillery fires as these were too indiscriminate, meaning that enemy strongpoints such as buildings and civil defence bunkers would now have to be cleared by infantry in close quarters fighting.

The Etoilian plan would entail deployment of Drvarskan Jager troops to attack from the east and west to squeeze the communists in a vice. Five manoeuvre battalions of the 23 Heavy and 24 Heavy Divisions would be peeled off to support them. Their mission would be to protect the infantry as they advanced, relying on frontal armour to shrug off any attack so that the infantry could close with and assault the enemy. The infantry also had the task of screening the tanks, preventing the communists from positioning for flank and rear attacks with RPGs or anti-tank missiles.

This would be the hardest phase of the operation so far and moderate casualties were expected fighting in the residential areas and industrial estates. The assault would be delayed until nighttime for maximum effectiveness, the Drvarskans supplied with additional night vision equipment as required. To preserve civilian infrastructure assault weapons, like RPGs, had been prohibited for house fighting, and the tanks would use their defensive machine guns and automatic grenade launchers only. Many crews expressed unhapiness to their officers at being unable to use their main guns, but were disciplined enough to follow these orders.

As the day wound down, Etoilian forces completed consolidating their other positions throughout the city. Except for the occasional ineffective Stinger missile fired at quad tiltrotors bringing supplies in via the airport, there was little fighting during the remainder of the day to distract the Etoilian and Drvarskan forces preparing for the night assault against the final communist stronghold in the city.

The battalions of the PKA were, with the aid of Faxanavia, closing in on the communist troops who now had little space to go. Capt SQUARk led his company towards the edge of the forest.
"We're nearly out guys," he shouted.
The 1st Company of the 1st Parachute Battalion took off from PKA Mobile Command in the east in 5 helicopters.

Soon they would land behind the shrinking enemy lines at the Paratrooper landing spot near the Alsdair camp.

The rest of the supporting nations were also closing in gradually.

"Gentleman, you are clear to fire." The voice squawked over the radio, as the fifty P-9 Protractor's ripped forward, the joy fo flying apparent in their spiraling swoops. They closed on the enemy encampment, and from the bellys of the plain, 9 AMRAAM missiles came ripping out, detonating on major buildings in the encampment. The planes pulled back, their bombing run a success, and headed for the ship to refuel.

Below, the Faxanavian troops watched the Pinguinum paratroopers soar gracefully over their heads, and into enemy lines. They returned their attention to the actual enemy, now faced from two sides. The 4th heavy artillery moved forward, and with them, a multitude of missile tubes. 25 starstreak shortrange missiles were hurled into the oncoming adversary, with explosive results.

Half of the HE rounds fired in the barrage were time delay. They were set to detonate between 3 and 5 minutes after impact. The first ones went off just as the rebels began climbing the the trees. Meanwhile, the archers stood by, waiting for the call to fire another barrage.

So far, 2 companies had made it through the forest, but there were still a number to go. The troops rode inside the Bradley IFVs to protect themselves from ambush. Everything had gone to plan so far.

The assault had left a mark on the city: there were still some smoking ruins, and the communist force now numbered 300 survivors, the rest killed by the Drvarskans.

They waited in anticipation o fthe attacks which they had repelled: armour and infantry warnded off by officers suddenly exploding as their heads were hit by .50 cal bullets and by the occasional lame Stinger or RPG attack.

In the middle of the suburb, the few commanders drank coffee, waiting for it to end.

The shells exploded suddenly, and some of the men in teh open were blown apart. Half of them were already in the trees, and only another quarter managed tog et into the trees. They spread through the thick network of branches and prepared to attack.

The Grand Fegos - South

The Pinguinium forces came floating down over into the forest canopy. They were foolish: they would be caught in the tangle of branches and easily be killed by the rebels: all they had to do was cut them loose, letting them fall 30 metres to the forest floor below.

They fired at the easy targets in the sky, shredding parachutes and killing the targets.

The Grand Fegos - North

The communists had realised that the Alfegos forces were only to the north, clustered to cut the pocket down so that Damirez could easily supress remaining resistance.

They let rip a fierce attack on the armour moving down the wet forest tracks: grenades and bullets flying from nowhere, indiscriminately killing. The forest around them was soon clear though: the flamethrowers on the tanks, and acid sprays soon removed the enemy.

They continued advancing, soo to meet up with the others in Milkavich, where they would start reconstruction.

The missiles flew down killing the few rebels on the ground. Soon, massive fires were raging. The Greal bombers had set fire to the forest areas, as well as killing many thousands of animals rare to the area.

The Commonwealth forces continued it's slow campaign. A cold, methodical clearing of it's war sector, relying on foot patrols to find the enemy. Once found they did everything possible to force them to fight where the Alsdarian armies advantage in equipment and massed fire power to either get them to surrender or exterminate them.

As their comrade fell from the tree, the soldiers took it as their signal. The first bullet to be fired was a blind shot that ripped throught the leaves of the tree. The Communist fell to the ground. Dead. Their vengance taken, the Imperial troops began firing into the tropical woodland. Saplings shattered, and ferns were overwhelmed by the blazing fire of machine guns and KE field weapons.

A few squads were sent forth from the streambank, firing into the forest as they advanced.

When they met their foes face-to-face, the Kiravians shot who they could, and drew their swords, slashing into the charging rebels. Their blades and bayonets worked swiftly, and soon more troops could be sent forth. Losses were indeed taken though. The first to enter the rainforest were dispatched to Heaven by snipers and footmen. about 35 were killed in the trench, and officers projected that about 100 would be lost if the battle went ont too long without pause. In the close-range combat however, few casualties were taken. Trainded with both swords, KE rifles, and conventional guns, the Empire's direct combat skills were superior to these far-neoleft commies.

Thecommunists soon moved away into the trees, taking shots into the forces from behind thick foliage above thier heads.

Some more communists stayed to drop the occasional grenade onto the enemy heads, or more crudely just rocks.

They were slaughtered on the ground: the problem Kirav had was the trees.

"I'm all for a normal pine or cypress," said Lieutenant Dordic Blackmist to his partner, "But these things are deadly as hell". He hit the ground(voluntarily, not dead), dragging his partner with him as a grenade exploded nearby.

An NCO nearby got an idea. "Let's fight trees with trees then, shall we?"

Kirav and most of its colonies were forested, be it with palms and teak in the feew tropical provinces, or alpine firs in Uvarova, the Kiravians were very close to the trees. THey knew what to do. Of course, It wouldn't be easy.

From the lines further back, Tropical Legionaries shimmied up the tall trunks into the canopy. As the men on the ground moved further back, the men in the trees were moving further forward.

Soon battle line were drawn above the ground, in the interlocking branches of the jungle heights. THe Kiravians and Alfegosian communists were battleing it out in the treetops, just as they would on solid ground. A soldier charged towards a tree where several Communists were bunkered. He threw a rebel from a branch to the forest floor. It was not very high, and the lucky commie would likely survive. However, his gun was hanging by a shoulder strap to a sprig. No threat.

Most of the men on the ground were either dead, or fleeing to the natural trench. THe men in the trees, however, were pushing onward.

A corporal looked back as he fled the ground front. Many of his squad had died, many were also concussed by rocks that had been thrown at them. Thank God for helmets, he thought. The rocks may not have killed any Imperials, but it did put them out of fighting condition fpr at least a few hours. That could be all that was needed to decide the fate of this battle.

A Greal firefighter bomber dropped a "water bomb" on the fire. The bomb pour out water over a square mile.

The second platoon made their descent, and this time they knew about the hiding communist troops.

"Alsdair base Alsdair base, coming into your area..." shouted Lt GREENBEAK.

"This is Alsdair base, clear to land" replied the commanding officer on the ground.

"Thank you Sir" replied GREENBEAK, "Be with you in half an hour".

and so the parachutists glided into paratrooper landing point as intended.

He couldn't understand why his fellow Lieutenant went of course. The clearing was marked on the map. Other nations had managed to land firs time.

However he was glad his platoon was now on the ground safely.

They would split up into sections and meet up in the Alsdair camp.

Meanwhile, the other PKA forces and Faxanavia were pressing forward into the forest very aware of any surpise attacks that may come from either side.

"Guys, shssh listen, what's that?" Pvt GALL

There was some rustling in the trees.

"Get down!" yelled Sgt WEB

The men immedaitely hit the ground with their rifles pointed towards the noise.

The Major commanding the 3 Horizon Regiments in the advance on the city was already through the forest, now in the open ground between the forest and city. But half his troops were still crossing through the forest on the northeastern edge of the Alsdair held area. The Bradley and Leopard tanks could easily stand up to small arms and hand grenades, but no one knew how many RPGs the rebels had left. They were also concerned about anti tank mines. In each group traveling through the forest, the lead tanks were fitted with mine plows. The deep blades dug into the ground, and would push any mines they found harmlessly to the side of the trails. But the plowing was slowing the advance down.

Just then, the faint sound of helicopter blades filled the air from the east. The next line of protection for his troops was here. 2 flights of Marines AH-1 helicopters had lifted off a short while ago from the Horizon carrier group, now stationed just over the horizon from the island's eastern shore. Now the helicopters were approaching the forest, and switching on their FLIR infrared cameras to locate the body heat of the rebel fighters preparing to ambush the Horizon armour.

The trench was silent. The fighters int he trees had moved further West into the forest. THe men in the streambed were busy setting up tents to sleep in, recording the dead and missing, treating the wounded, and repairing their armour.

The plan was that the men in the trench would stay there for 1 day and 2 nights, and then march forward.

It had been a tiring battle, and for those in the trees, miles ahead, it was only paused, not yet over. The exhausted men who were not working either took their sleep shifts, or sat near the machine guns, fixing helmets and kevlar.

Base "Twierdza"
Another company of Commonwealth paratroopers were waiting for lift off. The heavy fighting and the allied forces appearing in the base made high command withdraw the paratroopers replacing them with rested infantry from base "Knights Cross".
Apart from that everything went as before, patrols kept forcing the red army into conflicts were superior fire power was brought into play.
The Mi-24 copters in the base were prepared to give support to any patrols in trouble, as well as Sikorsky copters to transport men to assist in catching the enemy before they could dissapear.

Compared to the campaign up north it was less spectacular but probably as effective in it's target, the destruction of the Red Army as an effetive fighting force.

After, the Pinguinum troops had met with the Alsdair commander, they set off again. Unfortunately, the Alsdair commander didn't really know what was happening and Pinguinum troops got no coordination instructions from him.

The 2nd Platoon were on their way towards Milkavich. They set up a small camp on the edge of the forest hidden from view.

"Let's hide up there" commanded GREENBEAK.


Meanwhile, the 1st Platoon was in danger of being killed in their vulnerable position.

It would be quite easy for the communists to cut the thread on their parachute.

Some did get caught, but most thanks to the widespread deforestation did not. The commuists obviously saw the parachutistsas they were firing already. Some got badly injured and rolled about on the ground in pain and with broken bones.

However, for the commuist and other troops, the forest had its disadvantages as well as its advantages.

The PKA knew the reds were very apt at using the forest for ambushes and cover and it knew there was of using this to their advantage. The reds knew thay had an advantage and the PKA were keen to play on it.

Most of the 1st platoon, got free and formed a circle pointing outwoards with the injured men inside. They pointed their guns towards the trees and listened for movement. 10 of them had SAWs and one opened fire into the trees when a dark shadow moved across the branches. His squad mates picked up the troop in the trees. They weren't going to have it that easy.

5 men wearing red fell from the trees. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Another squad opened fire into the trees and screams of pain resounded around the small clearing. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Another few men fell to the ground.

The communist tactic was working against them as they were being picked off in the trees.

The 8 PKA men injured lay there inside the circle wondering when this would stop.

Some of the communist troops were so surpised by the reverse of attack, they misfooted their footholds and fell to the ground, some grabbing branches on the way down. Of those that fell and weren't killed, they immediately put their hands up and surrendered. Their guns dropped to the ground.

A familiar rustling came from afar. It sounded like 1st Company of the 1st Armoured Battalion. They would wait for them.

The paratroopers that had clustered for protection in the canopy of the rainforest were slowly being closed in upon by 20 communist soldiers. they would be quick to get rid of them, before the armour came.

Meanwhile, on the forest floor and in the canopy, the bodies were being collected, and thier equipment stripped, before tehy were rolled into shallow graves and buried, hidden from sight.

They fired at the paratroopers, trying to make sure there were no survivors.

Further away, the 2nd Platoon were being slowly stalked by more men in the trees. They came close to the small encampment, before tossing grenades and running in, guns blazing, knives crudely glued to the undersides of rifles.

The RPGs that hit detonated the ERA armour of the vehicles, causing brilliant explosions but doing little damage. The tank that hit the bombs was less fortunate. The explosion had disabled the tank, forcing the injured crew to abandon it and take shelter with the troops in the back of a nearby Bradley. The Bradleys opened fire with their 25mm chain guns, and the tanks with their coaxial machine guns.

The nearby helicopters responded at once, locating the rebel positions, and opening fire with 20mm guns and 70mm rockets.

With immense cunnning and partly because the reds assumed the troops were in the canopy and aimed in the wrong direction, the PKA platoon kept on firing into the trees happily sitting on the ground in their tight circle.

It would be foolish for the reds to fire at the platoon now since they would end up killing so many of their own.

"Gas masks on guys, you know the drill," shouted the lieutenant minutes before releasing cans of sleeping gas. "Captain Squark, come in"

"This is captain Squark" SQUARK replied.

"Tell your soliders to wear gas masks" answered the lieutenant.

"Will do, thanks for the heads up" replied SQUARK

The Kiravians were on the march. THey had cut their stay in the streambed from 2 nights to one. Their friends in the trees had succeeded in pushing the Communists back a tad bit, but there was still work to be done.

As they marched throught the jungle, a squad of men in the trees would go afore them, making sure that the way was free of snipers, like those that had injured 4 men last night.

Meanwhile, the 15th regiment, known semi-officially as the "Jungle Green Regiment", was only 5 miles behind. They had caught up while the advance detatchments had been hampered by fighting.

The communist soldiers had learnt that they should stay out of the way of hand-hand combat: the fighting had been ruthless that way.

Instead, they had moved ahead of the Kirav forces, and set up traps: few were explosive grenades or mines, as most were really just springy saplings with sharpened ends, coiled back to the point where they were triggered by a careless foot, they would spring out of the bushes, impaling the victim's face or neck with a 20 cm spike.

Other traps had been installed: rocks precariously mounted on tree stumps,r eady to crush feet; trees taht were rotten linked across the ground by wide ropes, that would pull dwon the rotten bodies; rifles attached to taught twine tripwires, ready to shoot if someone triggered the wire.

All in all, it would hopefully give them time to dig out soem defences for a final stand.

The Pinguinum forces weren't overly agressive and so bundled all the soliers they could capture in the back of the APCs.

Some of them were after all confused and were only citizens conscripted to help with the army.

Still SQUARK was aware that these could become unruly and extremely troublesome if not kept under wraps.

They pushed on keeping close to the APCs. The Faxanvian forces were following on with intent. they were as nervous as the PKA companies.

The 2nd platoon had by now reached halfway to Milkavich and radioed into Alfegos command HQ

As the rebels retreated, the troops unloaded from the armoured vehicles to secure the area. They seized the weapons of the dead rebels to deny other rebels the arms and setup defensive positions. An armoured recovery vehicle moved up to tow the wrecked tank back out of the forest, and the wounded personnel were transfered to an armoured ambulance for the trip back to the field hospital. The AH-1 Cobras flew close over the group in case of another ambush.

Meanwhile, artillery barrages were called in on the areas were it was suspected the rebels had retreated to.

It took 40 minutes to get the troops moving again. They were one of the last groups to move through the forest.

Once the troops were through, the regiments lined up line a breast and prepared to move on to the outskirts of the city.

By mid-afternoon the encirclement of Milkavich had been completed. The airport, ring road, city centre and freeways were all secure, and all but the western suburbs of the city pacified. By and large precision guided weapons and the careful use of fires had minimised the level of collateral damage to the city, though many government buildings used by the communists now stood in ruins thanks to precision bombing. Every road junction now seemed to have at least two main battle tanks or an IFV platoon holding them, and vehicle patrols imposed curfews on the street.

The Joint Command had received reports of communists deserting their posts during the early phase of the battle the night before. The dozens of tanks and APCs destroyed during the charge by the two heavy divisions into the airport were found to lack any sign of dead crews, and a similar picture had been seen during the assault through the southern suburbs. The Joint Command was forming the opinion that large numbers of communist forces had either deserted their posts en masse, or exfiltrated in large numbers from the city prior to the battle, probably in small groups to avoid detection by overflying UAVs.

But a die-hard communist pocket remained in the western suburbs of Milkavich, and these seemed to contain the most determined resistance. The 205 and 104 brigades had their route of escape blocked, and the Joint Command drew up a new plan with the assistance of Drvarskan officers. ROE restrictions imposed by the Alfegosians ruled out the use of air and artillery fires as these were too indiscriminate, meaning that enemy strongpoints such as buildings and civil defence bunkers would now have to be cleared by infantry in close quarters fighting.

The Etoilian plan would entail deployment of Drvarskan Jager troops to attack from the east and west to squeeze the communists in a vice. Five manoeuvre battalions of the 23 Heavy and 24 Heavy Divisions would be peeled off to support them. Their mission would be to protect the infantry as they advanced, relying on frontal armour to shrug off any attack so that the infantry could close with and assault the enemy. The infantry also had the task of screening the tanks, preventing the communists from positioning for flank and rear attacks with RPGs or anti-tank missiles.

This would be the hardest phase of the operation so far and moderate casualties were expected fighting in the residential areas and industrial estates. The assault would be delayed until nighttime for maximum effectiveness, the Drvarskans supplied with additional night vision equipment as required. To preserve civilian infrastructure assault weapons, like RPGs, had been prohibited for house fighting, and the tanks would use their defensive machine guns and automatic grenade launchers only. Many crews expressed unhapiness to their officers at being unable to use their main guns, but were disciplined enough to follow these orders.

As the day wound down, Etoilian forces completed consolidating their other positions throughout the city. Except for the occasional ineffective Stinger missile fired at quad tiltrotors bringing supplies in via the airport, there was little fighting during the remainder of the day to distract the Etoilian and Drvarskan forces preparing for the night assault against the final communist stronghold in the city.

The Etoile Arcture plans were recieved by the Drvarskan Expeditionary force high command and approved. With the supply of NVG equipment will make the night attack much easier.

Orders were sent out for all soldiers to be limited to single fire unless under CQC within no threat of civillian casualties. The 1st Jäger division was put in to attack the resistance in the southern suburbs. As night approached the soldiers prepared their equipment and awaited the "go" from Etoile Arcture forces. A transmission was sent out confirming the plans as well as lending air support.

We appreciate your supplyment of NVG equipment and we wish to offer in return extra air support for your troops. These Mi-24s are posted on board our Nimitz aircraft carrier SS "Arctic" which is stationed off the coast of Alfegos near our military camp.

High on the mountains, the soldiers could see the crumbled remains of the bunker city. Suddenly, they saw planes flying from it.
"they have taken bunker city! Requesting that the 3rd Para regiment is deployed to take out hostiles!"
In the jungles below, the Alfegos forces scrambled for cover as their AA batteries started up, filling the air with explosions.

Further away, the paratroopers were inbound. They were to check out the bunker entrance, and if that was sealed, find another way in.

2 Regiments drove west after emerging from the forest, spreading out along the northern edge of the southwestern forest. Another, along with some tag alongs, moved to the outskirts of the city. The tag alongs were a battalion worth of special operations troops. They were a mix of special forces, civil affairs troops, and psychological operations troops. Their job was to track down and capture the remaining communists in the city. They drove through the streets in groups of 3 armoured humvees. The psyc ops humvee in each trio broadcast a message over loud speakers. It warned the rebels that continuing to fight would mean certain death, and that they would be treated well if they surrendered. It also advised the citizens that the foreign troops meant no harm and that a cash reward would be given to anyone who supplied information that led to the capture or elimination of a rebel fighter.

The PKA received a memo from the EA troops. Maj Gen ROCKHOPPER radioed on to his commanders in the field.

"Col FLATFOOT, take your men around towards the south east and meet up with the expedits from EA."

The troops rumbled on, by this time they were well out of the forest and coming in from the west towards the city.
They were also accompanied by the other platoons of the 1st Parachute Battalion. The 1st and 2nd Air Assault had remained in the mountains overlooking the forest.

The few remaining rebels had been handed in, and the Alfegos police that had been evacuated had been returned to the police central station, monitering the entire city, the more interesting parts being realised in 3D on a projector in the main command room. One of these was of the rebel-taken suburb, which had a brilliant view of the rebels moving around in the buildings, taking potshots at the enemy.

The small number of people who had though of exfiltration had not. They had stayed, once they ahd seen the complete encirclement.

The rebels now knew the game was over. They retreated, slowly decreasing their pocket size to the point that the remaining 11 000 rebels were now in an area about 40 square miles around.

With the captured rebels returned to Alfegos command.

The PKA headed back to base. They would surround the 'pocket' with the aid of Faxanavia who wanted to return as well.
They would have strategic positioning thanks to the UAV which although did not show every detail because of the canopy, it did give a clear indication of forest activity.

Many of those who had recovered from the sleeping gas were wanderig around still without any weapons. Those that had weapons were hiding. Captain SQUARK decided to use the ASAWS again. He really did love using it.

Corporal BLUEBIRD reached inside one of the accompanying APCs and took out a bag.
"Guys, we will be the eyes", he whispered to his squad. "Put these on!"

"Yes Sir" they answered.

Once the five soliders had donned the gear, a few clusters of red, orange and green patches appeared.

BLUEBIRD went over to the SQUARK and explained that there were five troops to the right at about 10m and three troops to the left at about 7m.

He commanded the APCs to move into a lateral formation and placed the ASAWS between them. The PKA would shelter behind them.

First left, the operator switched to ON. Mode fan. PULSE!

The sound blasted towards the right. SQUARK spoke over a load speaker.

"Come out of the trees with your hands held high. Drop any guns or weapons now and we won't shoot," shouted SQUARK.

They didn't really have much choise. They knew their number was up. They were severly out numbered and very few had usable weapons. If they did try to use them, they would blow their faces off.

A strange sight met the eyes of the Pinguinium forces. Around the group of Pinguinium forces, about 260 men, armed with varying firearms, many very damaged, stood up form hiding places under the foliage, or dropping down from the trees. It was quite odd taht the Pinguinium forces had almost driven on top of them.

They all dropped thier weapons, and put thier hands in the air.

Of course, the Faxanavian forces had the same effect but with different methods. There were too many to all be carried in APCs so they were all chained together instead. It was that or killing them and that wasn't what the commander wanted.

The men of the city were waiting for any attack on them. A search team of Alfegans had entered the bunker entrance, and found some men waiting for them with a machine gun.

They had retreated, but the enemy knew they were there. It was a matter of time.

A bunkerbuster would not work, as the bunker extended so far back into the mountainside. Another solution had to be found.

5 armed divers plunged into the cold waters of a mountain ravine high up in the mountain, before letting the current carry them under the ground into the interior of the mountain.

Quarter of an hour later, after negotiatong massive waterfalls and dangerous passages, they lifted their heads from the watercourse into the interior of a concrete pipe. They were inside the base.

They quickly came out and found as quickly as possible the controls for the bunker.
The bulkheads slowly rose as the message screeched out to all allies in the area

"The bunker is open? Requesting aid ASAP for retaking."

The combined Drvarskan and Etoile Arcture forces moved into the hostile area in Milkavich. Captain Danilov, commander of the assault group sent in to clear some enemy buildings called for a Foster-Miller TALON to be sent up. The remote controlled tracked system moved in equipped with a M249 machine gun and fired a deadly hail of gunfire directly into the enemy rebels. Once cleared the soldiers began to move in quickly into deep hostile area and begin to clear out the rebels.

The rebels in the area tried to hide from the unusual unmanned vehicle that gunned down those in the open. Whent he real soldiers came in though, they reosrted to striking from the shadows then disappearing, surprise being their advantage, knowing the area off by heart.

At exactly 1 AM the main battle tanks of the Etoilian armoured corps crossed the start line at the beginning of the final assault into the western suburbs of Milkavich. The lead tanks of the advancing columns came under intense fire almost as soon they entered rebel held territory. For the crews inside each tank tonight was the culmination of years of training leading to the most high-risk mission of their military careers to date.

To minimise friendly casualties among the Drvarskan troops who were protecting their advance, all active protection systems had been deactivated. This left each tank reliant entirely on its passive protection suite of ballistic armour, and the cage of slat armour that had been hurriedly equipped to each tank during the day for stopping rocket propelled grenades. The crews were all buttoned in, strapped into titanium bucket seats and operating remote weapon stations and relying entirely on focal plane array sensors and peripheral vision systems for situational awareness.

The effectiveness of this scheme bore early fruit as RPGs and ATGMs fired against them either prematurely detonated against the slats, or failed when striking thick frontal armour. Faced with such an unstoppable wave the rebels were forced to fall back as the Drvarskan troops swarmed in behind to take down objectives, but the battle was far from won. With Phase 1 objectives ssized in a matter of half an hour, the tanks and infantry begun to move to the second phase line, and away from the wide open roads and boulevards into the narrower surburban streets.

The rebels slowly moved backwards, unable to stop these foreigner tanks. They let off a few volleys in vain, before completely falling back into the narrow streets of the suburbs. The area was dominated by hundreds of granite domes, Alfegan houses, in which they hid, firing the occasional round at the advancing foreigners.

Horizon forces moved to the other edge of the suburbs to cut off any chance of rebel retreat. Their vehicles had large orange flags and panels for friendly recognition.

Radio operators contacted the allied forces moving through the suburbs from the other side to inform them of the positions of the Horizon troops.
