A Storied Sovereignty

After the discovery by Aucter van Shuuet on how to restore ozone, life in Antarctica became much less hazardous, but still, it was damn cold. But now, it seemed, things were changing, where else can one live in a habitat hardly touched by human hands, and with complete freedom too, no one officially governs the last continent, despite claims of it, there simply is no unified government, and so people had complete freedom. And that was great, until something unexpected happened; the Antarctic human population soared to over three million. Confecting land claims and general discontent with each other had made the call for a true sovereign government ring very loudly.
On October 1st, 2007, it happened. The highest standing individuals worked up a simple declaration of independence, and there it was, a new nation on the map.
Citizens demanded that the government be kept very small and freedoms kept very broad. And it has been so; the nation is run by a powerful president and a small congress that consists of only 20 members. Any ‘law’ to ban, or prohibit anything is often met with protest; however, the government approval rating tends to sit around 80%. The Preisident is Hector Walsenburg.
