Empress Makes First Formal Address to the World
Euphova--Today, at approximately three o'clock, the new Empress Mei Mian gave her first formal address to the International Community. This comes at a period when order has been almost fully restored to the country, and the new government's power has been fully consolidated.
Televised and hosted in the Imperial Office at the Royal Palace, the Empress began her speech by assuring the international community that the new government has only peaceful intentions, and seeks only to peacefully improve the nation. The Empress spoke of various new goals set by her administration, including elections for a new Imperial Senate, which will host 300 democratically elected members. Elections are set for one month from today, however this body shall only serve an advisory position. Further plans include a liberalizing of the economy, a reduction in the tax rate, and an increase in defensive spending.
Another important portion was a discussion of regional relations. Mei Mian stressed the peaceful nature of Mephras, and assured regional neighbors of continued good relations. However, she also noted that all Mephrasian commitments to the the Free World Alliance will be ceased for the time being. She made sure to stress that this was not an aggressive action, rather that Mephrasian troops were needed in the country at this time, and could not risk being deployed in a foreign war. The nation's membership in IBIS shall remain unchanged, however funds to that project shall be greatly reduced as rebuilding infrastructure is the nation's top priority.
To end her speech, the Empress reiterated previous points, and welcomed the nations of the world to intellectual, cultural, and economic exchange with the nation. Various commentators see the speech as a good step for the new regime, and as sign of stability and maturity that many thought lacking in the regime of the Pop-Star Empress.
