Facing the desert, crammed between the hostile sea and the burning desert the Omnians have built their empire. Most of the land is barren rock, a few inches of soil before the ground turns infertile. The failure of crops, starvation, drought, and disease are all a common part of desert life and the Omnians wear hardship like a glove.
A religion sprung from this, a hard burning religion of fierce and bloody commandments and strict hierarchy. Omnianism sprang from the wrecks of Ur Galosh, a deity whose name in never repeated in modern day Omnia. The ancient story of Creation was that Om, the Great God whispered into the mind of a shepherd guiding him to one of his lost sheep. There on the spot his rise to power began, although official Church stories now include tails of beatifications, blood or glory charges, angels signing maidens to sleep, and pillars of flame that may or may not have been originally there. Still the great moments of the Church are carved onto circular walls of the Convocation Hall of the Church’s basilica. The entire story of Omnia is seen there, from the Pontifical Wars, the ascension of the Prophets, the Archangels charge at Blünderburg, all carved into the marbled halls of Om.
Though the country may be in political, economic, civil turmoil the Church may remain serene on the innumerable wealth accumulated by the immolation of heretics and pagans alike. Through the conquest of enemies, and the liquidation of personal assets, the Church is possibly the richest, per capita, entity on the planet. The Basilica at Kom is crafted out of white marble, the roof emblazoned with silver and the massive artwork of Om bows the head of all that enter the country.
Geography:
Omnia is the desert. Its land finds it difficult to support life, it’s people spread out in an attempt to effectively use all of it. The main body of Omnia continues as this becoming much more pleasant on the south reaching peninsula where Kom sits. The sea however often produces violent storms that disrupt agriculture.
The shared island, commonly called Sanctity, is mostly mountainous although has a decent climate. It is often considered the national redoubt and is ringed with fortresses, although most are out of use. Petulant geography makes the empire difficult to assault or understand, every inch of the country resists human life but such is the persistence of the followers of Om.
Economy:
As hinted at above agriculture is a step away from disaster, men too often called away from already failing farms to fight the pagan. In the sense of broad economy there isn’t one, sustenance farming is the major industry. Though Omnia is abundant in natural resources, the theocracy does not make friends quickly, and will hardly ever trade with the infidel. Silver, coal, iron, bronze, copper and most industrial metals are quite common, however technology is behind and neither the potential of the metal or the ore is fully utilized. Nomadic herding is also a popular career, although it has lead to many border disputes with neighboring countries.
Through Church guided economics the country has slowly began to rebuild itself, and for the first time the Theocratic Mint is producing paper money. Because of a mix of fear and trust no one opposes it, and the Obal is on the path to becoming the world’s strongest currency. Strangely both silver and salvation back up the currency, the more money has, and usually donates to the Church, the larger the chance of benefaction is. All aspects of economy enforce the need to expand the Church, expand and stomp the heathen.
History:
I’m waiting awhile to do this, get some neighbors and hammer our something.
Military:
Like the rest of the country the military is backwards lacking the technological advantages of science and industry. This should not be mistaken for weakness as the Empire employs a greater weapon then rifling, it makes use of the insanity of religion the driving force of death is the main idea. It warriors fight as fanatics, it soldiers run for days chanting the praises of Om to meet the enemy armed with weapons that will shatter before the strength of the berserker. As Omnia is a peaceful god loving community surrounded by villainous heathens it requires a large military. Large, but untrained the Omnian generals depending on the ferocity of their charges and Divine Intervention to win battles.
Though the Church rigorously despises the use of magic it does maintain a strong, selective core of mage priests to perform in combat. As death comes swift in often in the desert quality is generally high, and the mages specifically deal with the Divine the summoning and binding of angels and demons to perform their deeds. As such they are perhaps better classified as “Magicians” or Demonologist as an outside force is actually creating the power and pull of their magic.
The Divine Legion:
Supreme Commander: His Imminence Cenobiarch Lothar the XVIII
Command Base: Kom
Man Power: 10,000 Standing Infantry 35,000 Reserve Infantry 10,000 Standing Cavalry 10,000 Reserve Artillery\Engineers\Other
The Divine Legion is the most visible arm of the Church’s power, while the Inquisition may perform more poking and prodding the Legion’s shiny boots stomp out heresy by their mere presence. Early firearms are an experimental thing, only one company (100 men) has been issued firearms , and have so far classified them as “Godless Contraptions.” The preferred weapons of the Legion are a standard issue Guard spear long sword, double headed axe, crossbows, longbows, halberds and similar ancient weapons. For cavalry it is similar although the long sword has been replaced by the saber, and pistol bows are the most common ranged weapons.
For artillery the Empire is still behind, to kill one’s enemies from a distance is considered unmanly and the job is only taken with a grey sullenness. Mostly catapults, ballista’s, trebuchets, and the moderately new flame engine, which through a reservoir can either fire long gouts of flame nearly two hundred yards or flaming stones up to about 800 yards.
Within the artillery core is the retinue of mages, about two hundred strong in reserve and standing. Technically they are not in the military, they are purely priests on paper none of their actions can be held accountable to the military though they are kept on a tight leash. In combat they will summon either angels or demons depending on the need, who will perform different tasks, from slaughtering the foe to supporting a floating bridge, to carrying the dead off the battlefield. A separate society has grown up around them, the most powerful of which usually controls the Church. Without the army however they are patently weak, but together for a potent combination of magig and metal.
