Name: The Kingdom of Veruna

Government Type: Monarchy

Population:
12,000,000 Human Citizens
~6,000,000 Non-humans

Colonies:
Novus Veruna
Nodus Terra
Insula Media
Insula Recendentia
Insula Lacerta
Terror Incognita
Terra Solitudino
Palus Insula

Geography:
-The Verunan homeland is a rather mountanous region away from the coastlines. The south, toward Kraljevic is much warmer and provides much of the homelands food, although Veruna still has to import a goodly amount of food from New Veruna to keep the mainland fed. However, the mountains of the area are rich with mineral resources.

-Novus Veruna is the Empire's breadbasket, its rolling hills and wide plains provide prime growing terrain. The only issue is, of course, the constant raids by the Taecsi, forcing the Empire to tie up many of its best troops keeping the snake people at bay.

-Nodus Terra is chiefly mountainous, home to few Verunans outside of the garrisons. The colony is essentially still in the exploratory phase, IE: The Empire doenst know why it has it just yet.

-Insula Media is, first and foremost, a naval base and construction facility. The Empires largest shipyards (Outside of Pelagus) are located here and its main naval training facility occupies a large chunk of the islands capitol. Insula Media's main resource is lumber, the island is virtually covered in huge trees which provide the main source of construction material for the navy.

-The Insula Recendentia are small, highly volcanic islands which primarily serve as a waypoint along te way south as well as a staging point for any possible war with Aramon or Klatch. The islands do host a large number of cattle, though.

-Insula Lacerta is a jungle island, its primary contribution to the Verunan Empire is a vast array of herbs, rare flowers and other alchemical bits and pieces. It also provides a number of luxury items such as oranges and bannanas. As the name implies, the island hosts a large number of lizards of various species.

-Terror Incognita is less of a colony and more of a long-term military expedition. Its few colonists serve its ports, which are heavily defended against land attacks and pirate raids. It has the highest ratio of military-civilians in the entire Empire. While mostly military, Terror Incognita does export some items, chiefly animals and fruits from Damarask.

-Palus Insula is the key to Veruna's naval stranglehold on the Central Sea, and one of the nations main trade ports, being the crossing point of two major trade routes and a small army of minor ones. The islands are basically a 'freeport', anybody who pays the Verunan tax may trade there with minimal interferance, although the local government will not tolerate trade in human slaves. Its proximity to Tiopa means that it hosts a large number of ships to keep the dirty pirates at bay.

-Terra Solitudo is a desert colony. Mainly it serves as a thread to Klatch, but provides a large number of Dumner soldiers for the Verunan army. It also serves as a check to the Dark Elves of Morrowind.

Military Numbers and Deployment:
Army:
(%1)120,000 Standing Troops

The Verunan Army is equipped with muskets and polearms for the most part. NCO's are issued swords. The Verunan high command is heavily invested in gunpowder, sometimes to the detriment of the mellee oriented troops. While the Verunan Army DOES have a small light cavalry force, it is mainly focused on infantry.

500,000 non-human auxiliaries (in colonies, mostly. Includes both levies and mercenary forces.)
-120,000 Goblins
-100,000 Elves (Chiefly Dunmer)
-10,000 Akaviri
-220,000 various Beastmen (Chiefly Argonian varients)
-30,000 Ogres, Minotaur, and what-have-you
-20,000 Dwarves

It is standard policy that Auxiliaries not serve in their native lands. EX: There are no Dunmer soldiers in Terra Solitudo and no Akaviri soldiers in Novus Veruna)
Auxilliaries are equipped based on their own prefrences. IE: Goblins like bombs and things that make lots of noise. Elves go for bows, Akaviri prefer swords, etc.

(%3) 360,000 Militia Troops (Non-standing)

Militia forces are usually equipped with whatever they can grab. This means farm impliments, maybe a sword or polearm if the person is a vetran. Few Verunans outside of the colonies own firearms.
A few of the richer cities (Pelagus) substitute a call-up mercenary forces for militia. These are, obviously, better equipped.

The Army:
Exarchos Alexander Yggdn - General of the Verunan Army and Marines

Megas Domestikos Justinian Illden - General of the Home Armies of Veruna

Strategos Novus Veruna Liasander Aidenfel - General of New Veruna and the Island of Lizards

Strategos Novus Terra Methredel Buriash - General of the New Land

Strategos Terror Incognita Tristan Heldain - General of Terror Incognita

Strategos Solitudo Kristoph Ontinor - General of the Desert Land and the Inner Islands

Ethnarches - A commander of non-human troops, for example: Ethnarches Argonius City-Swimmer would be an Argonian commander.

Merarches - Commander of a cavalry force

Tourmarches - Commander of a 'Turma', approximatly 2,500 men

Politics:
Veruna is a sort of fusion of absolute monarchy and plutocracy. The Emperor is in charge of everything, but local govonors have significant power in their own domains when the Emperor isnt around to boss people about. Magical communication, however, allows for rapid and mostly accurate contact between even the most outlying colonies most of the time.
Succession is typically via filling dead mens shoes outside of the military. Usually the first step is by making the person in those shoes dead. While the Emperor and Royal Family are above such petty squabbles (most of the time), virtually every other office is held 'for life'.
Govonorships are generally given to the wealthiest citizen of the colony, based on the theory that whoever is most invested in said colony will have the most interest in keeping it profitable. This has had its good and bad effects.

Slavery is legal in the Empire, however it is illigal for any Citizen of the Empire to hold human or High Elf slaves (High Elf refering to 'civilized' elves, rather than the Altmer High Elves.), it is estimated that there are some 500,000 slaves, mostly beastmen, within the Empire, mostly in Novus Veruna. Most slaves are obtained from Aetherius via trade. The Verunan Empire often purchases human slaves in order to free them.
Indentured servitude IS legal for humans, and all species within the Empire, however, indentured servants are still full citizens and have all the rights entailed by that status.

Citizenship is granted to people of all species, provided they can prove they are able to make a living. Non-citizens are subject to higher taxes and have fewer rights than full Citizens. Citizenship can be obtained for ones family by doing ten years of service with the Verunan Navy or Army. Freed slaves are automatically granted citizenship and provided with a small sum of money (by their masters.)

Navy:
The Verunan navy is the strongest in the world, its ships the most advanced, its crews the best trained. It maintains an iron grip on the Central Sea and allows other nations travel there only as long as they are in the Empire's good graces. The Imperial Fleet is Veruna's pride and joy, seen as its divine right from the Goddess Narnid.
All Verunan citizens are required to do two years of service for the Navy, although typically this is in the form of some non-combat role, such as maintenance. While there is no draft, citizens are expected to contribute to the navy in some way during times of war.

Sea Forts:
Veruna maintains many open-ocean 'castles' in secret locations known only to Verunan admirals and captains, who are generally privy only to a select few. There are also many 'border castles' at choke points, such as the entrance to the Verunan Sea or between the Palus Insula.
Sea Forts equip many canons and can usually cover a 360 degree arc around themselves. Usually they are situated to cover each other if they arent 'secret' forts.
There are two main types, the 'floating' sort which mainly act as docks and supply bases. These are not as heavily armed, but are capable of moving. They are supported by a magical field and would sink quite rapidly if the magic were to fail.
The second is fixed to the bottom, usually on an artificial pillar or natural island. The border forts are typically of this sort. They are more heavily armed and heavily fortified against attack, usually having numerous marines garrisoning them.

Economics:
The Verunan economy is based upon trade, its sea routes connect pretty much everywhere worth going and so forth. The Great Chain, the most profitable route, links Veruna, Klatch, and Yokuda, some of the most profitable trading locations, as well as being the basis of the other main trade routes of the Verunan Empire.
