Well, I was thinking about different types of flags and ensigns and vexillology in general and ecided to make this thread. If you use an RL nation's flag it is assumed you use the same flag for the same purposes, for example, if you use the british flag you use the Red Ensign, the Blue Ensign and the White Ensign for thei respective purposes. If your flag is your own which means that someone used photoshop or paint to make it, then don't forget if proportions and what the design for civillian, state and military use is on land and at sea.

RL Country's Flags in Use

RL State - NS State(s) using it

Soviet Union (flag from 1980 to 1991) - World Soviet Party

Alfegos - 3:5, black but divided from top right to left bottom corners by a blue fimbrated ornage line. In the top left half at the top are three orange stars below that a thick line then a thin line then a thick line. In the lower right half is an orange plam tree, for civillian, government and military land and sea use; 3:5, black divided by a blue fimbrated yellow line from the top right to the btoom left. The top left half is decorated with ten star outlines in orange which are four right along the edge of the flag three beside those two beside those and one last one at the top. In the bottom right half there is a yellow tree, for use by communist Alfegons

Caelapes - 1:2, Blazon: Per pale lozengy Argent and Sanguine and the first, in sinister a fleur-de-lis of the second, for civillian and government land and sea use; 3:5, Blazon: Per fess Argent, in fess a jewel Azure and a fleur-de-lis of the same, in base, three bars fesswise Azure, Celeste, and Vert, for military land and sea use

Undivided

Velkya - 3:5, blue with three large white stars in the middle forming a pyramid of one stacked on top of the other two and around the three-star-pyramid are twelve stars which form a pentagon, civillian, government and military land use and civillian sea use if the civillian is not in possesion of the civillian maritime flag; 3:5, blue with a white scandinavian cross made of three separate white bands going across and down. In the top left square fromed by the scandinavian cross are three large white stars forming a pyramid of one stacked on top of the other two and around the three-star-pyramid are twelve stars which form a pentagon. In the top right corner formed by the cross are the words 'Chalybs Quod Incenia' in white lettering, government and military sea use, the version for civillian sea use omits the lettering and is used whenever it is available

Yeah, I guess. I've been looking at national ensigns and the like lately. I just like the idea of being able to check if your flag is in use by another nation.

They aren't in use by anyone else, so it shouldn't be a problem, but I like showing them, nonetheless. :p

Imperial Isa: An ensign is a flag flown at sea. So your national flag doubles as your national ensign? k

Dalnijrus: So the National flag doubles as the government(unarmed ships) and civil ensign? OK. You do know a Jack is only flown on special occasions, right?

The main flag of Alfegos, in use since 1821, is flown by all as a universal symbol of the nation, except in two circumstances:

1) The flag of New Alfegos.

Federal Flag of the Allied Union of Velkyan Republics (AUVR), flown as the national flag in civilian and military use. The Latin phrase meaning "In the Darkness, we are Liberty's Light!"

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/Velkie/NavalJack.png

Federal Naval Jack/Ensign of the Federal Navy of the Allied Union of Velkyan Republics (FNAU). Flown by Allied Union warships and government vessels in foreign and domestic ports, the Latin phrase meaning "Fire and Steel". Private civilian version omits the Latin phrase, although civilian vessels are permitted to use the Federal Flag as a Jack or Ensign should they not possess a civilian Naval Jack.

Both ratios being roughly 3:5.

Evolved out of the revolutionary banner hoisted by Charles Bradsworth, the Gull Flag has become inseparable from the Iansislean Republic itself. The Gull Flag is used in almost all state occasions and to demonstrate patriotism and support of the revolutionary government.

The Navy uses the red ensign version of the Gull Flag -- a solid red field with a small, spread-winged white gull in the top-left quadrant -- for most purposes, though ships on special detachment have been known to fly the Gull Flag itself. The Army and Flying Corps use the Gull Flag itself, with the exception of the Flying Corps' Coastal Command, which flies a white ensign (as the red ensign, only reversed), as does the Navy's Revenue Service. The green ensign (as the red ensign, with a green field and white gull) is largely used by Iansisle's vast merchant marine. The Flying Corps and the Naval Aviation Unit paint a green shield (similar to the one found on the Gull Flag) above a grey band on their aerocraft.

The Indian Soviet Commonwealth of Beth Gellert (has trouble getting on to the forums, Beddgelert is pronounced the same way and posts in its stead) flies the Red Flag. Pretty much everywhere, all the time.

My nationstate uses one flag for all. Using multible flags would take away from Talopoli's unity.
