Won Fir Die Welt
Cars For The World

In 1946, Van Luxemburgian Transportation B.V. was created by the Van Luxemburgian Government, in order to start up a domestic automobile industry after the Second World War. While Monteluci was still finishing the gigantic orders made by the Van Luxemburgian Military, Van Luxemburgian Transportation B.V. set up a major production line at a facility in Esch-sur-Alzette. A small car, the L3, was produced in the post-war years, boasting several characteristics from the Pre-war Porsche prototypes that had been transferred from Germany to Van Luxemburg Post-War.
The model range was quickly expanded. The L3 was joined by the L4 Sportcoupé in 1951, and the L5 and L7 in 1957. Meanwhile, Monteluci, a legendaric Van Luxemburgian manufacturer Pre-War, had also taken up production of their own model range again, and put up fierce competition against the Esch-based company. It is estimated that around 20 million L3's were produced for the domestic market, of which few remain today. The L4 Sportcoupé has survived the time however, and it is estimated that there are around 5,000 L4's still on the Van Luxemburgian roads today. Most L5's and L7's haven't survived the ravages of time, due to the premature rust protection at the time.
In the 1960's, Van Luxemburgian Transportation changed it's name to VLT Cars B.V., and launched the L6 in 1966 to celebrate it's 20 years of existence. The vehicle was not immensely popular, due to reliability issues, and above-average rust. However, it was an innovative vehicle, using double Weber carburettors to achieve 130 HP in it's 2.0 litre version. However, sales were not as high as expected, and the L6 was consequently dropped from the model range in 1972, with the last two years of production merely to use the part stocks that remained. In 1972, the whole programme was reintroduced, meaning completely new models of the L3, L4 Sportcoupé (which was now joined by a convertible), the L5 and L7.
Like the rest of the world, Van Luxemburg had to cope with the 1973 Oil Crisis. Unlike Monteluci, VLT had already specialised in small cars, with only one 6-cylindre available, in the L7. Other cars used the old, but reliable 2.2 litre 4-cylinder, developing 115 HP. After the failure of the L6, the 130 HP 2-litre was completely removed from all new cars, due to reliability issues, leaving only the 2.2, 1.8, 1.4, 1.0, and the unforgettable 3.0 litre 6-cylinder, delivering 171 HP. The engines were relatively economical, and could run on the small amounts of petrol handed out at the fuel pump. Thanks to this, VLT managed to cope with the few cars sold in that year, and was able to survive through the hard years.
During the late seventies, the model range was slowly changed again, but still, the basic names remained. In the meantime, VLT had reworked the 2.0 litre engine from the former L6, and improved it's reliability. The engine now developed 135 HP, and did prove it's worth in a new L5, which was launched in 1979. The vehicle was exceptionally fast for it's time, and was notorious for it's quick accelerations. In 1981, the L7 was first equipped with a new 4.2 litre V8 engine, developing around 279 HP, able to get the L7 to speeds of 225 kilometres per hour, an exceptional speed for a saloon car in the 1980's.
By the mid-eighties, VLT had completely overcome the unprofitable seventies, and was back into producing high-powered cars. The L5 also became available with the 3.0 Litre V6, this time being supercharged and delivering 198 HP. Meanwhile, the L3 and L4 were also equipped with the 2.0 litre 135 HP engine, also available in a supercharged 165 HP version for the L4. In 1987, the L6 was re-introduced, this time also available with the 2.0 Litre 165HP, the 3.0 Litre V6 198 HP and the 3.0 Litre V6 Biturbo, delivering 228 HP. The vehicle was very popular, and still enjoys some form of popularity with VLTists nowadays.
However, VLT began to feel the competition again, this time not from Monteluci, but from foreign companies. For the first time since 1973, VLT began to sell less cars in 1989, and could clearly feel the foreign companies breathing in it's neck. This problem was however overcome in 1995, when VLT acquired the licenses to produce all foreign vehicles destined for the Van Luxemburgian market. Since then, VLT's profit have exponentially increased, and export of VLT models to other nations has started in 2007. Currently, VLT is possibly one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world.

Monteluci: A separate story

Monteluci is a company with a long racing history. It was founded by the Monteluci Family, most notably Gilberto Monteluci. In 1907, Gilberto built his first car, the Pangea. Quickly followed by multiple, more powerful models, Monteluci soon joined the top by winning several races since their entry into racing in 1913. His cars were the absolute benchmark in both luxury and speed, while also offering unparalleled driving dynamics. Gilberto was a frequent guest in all kinds of races around the world, especially when his cars participated. In 1934, he built the truly magical Tipo 188, which quickly conquered the racing world and lead the world’s most prestigious drivers to the finish in agonizing races of skill and tactics. The Tipo 188 was constantly improved to remain the world benchmark, and the vehicle remained top-notch until 1940, when the racing leagues were halted to favour the Second World War. During the war, Monteluci mainly constructed trucks and other light vehicles, to fulfil the large orders made by the national Armed Forces. During the war, Gilberto Monteluci died, 63 years of age, due to a fatal accident in the Monteluci factory in Venezia. After the war, Monteluci had to restart production of automobiles, since their pre-war vehicles were considered outdated by the new direttore generale, Battisto Monteluci, and he immediately ordered the development of new automobiles, which included a new Formula 1 car. Once again, Monteluci reigned the tracks and roads. However, interest in their road-legal automobiles was fading; Vehicles were too expensive and couldn’t compete with the cheaper VLT’s, a nationalised company established in 1946. Due to this, Monteluci relocated funds from their Formula 1 team to their road-legal department, which caused the achievements of the F1 team to slowly degrade, after a few seasons, the Monteluci F1 team was no more than a mediocre racing team, a shadow of what it used to be. The second blow came in 1973, when the oil crisis struck the Monteluci road-legal cars aswell; sales were reduced to a minimum. Through the next years, Monteluci slowly went downhill, upgrading and facelifting the 1973 models due to a lack of money. In 1995, the last update for the Tipo G came, a model which showed slight differences to the previous models, but still building on the same 70’s technologies. In 2007, the Direttore Generale of Monteluci sold the brand to VLT, becoming the manager for the next 5 years. In the last months, Monteluci has presented the new Duca, an innovative all-new D-segment model. Now, Monteluci will be joining Formula 1 again, letting old times relive. Sponsored by Radio and Television Van Luxemburg, most notably the International Branch, as well as the Van Luxemburgian Motoring association and Walter Technologie, Monteluci has contracted a small amount of sponsors, to avoid the white-and-blue livery of the race car to be clogged up with commercial logos. Monteluci F1 has officially received the blessing of the Grand Duke, which lead to the placement of the Grand-Ducal coat of arms on both the RF12 racer and the pit crew overalls. Two racing drivers have been contracted, with Daniel Baer, a well-known name within Van Luxemburg, being the first driver, and Yves Lachappelle being the second driver, providing backup for Baer. Monteluci’s manager, Afredo Monteluci, will also be the team manager, like his grandfather Gilberto. Test driver will be the 26-year old brother of Alfredo, Paolo Monteluci.

It doesn’t matter if you choose a Monteluci, VLT, or any other brand currently offered by VLT Automotive: You will find Automotive Excellence, superbly crafted, perfect quality, reliability and aesthetics. That is why we produce ‘Won fir die Welt’/’Cars for the World’.

Lepanto Supercar: It's coming!

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/Lepanto1copy.png
A Lepanto teaser picture has been sent to all press instances.

We've been waiting for it, but it has come to our inbox: A Lepanto supercar.
The brand, nowadays part of VLT and belonging to VLT's 'exclusive' branch, commanded by Monteluci, has been promising it's return for a while, but has now finally put out the first (fruitful) results.

This Lepanto, of which the name has yet to be decided upon, will be equipped with a 6-litre V12 that can develop 650 PS. This will be a slight improvement over the older Monteluci V12 with 640 PS that has been installed in other Lepanto's. Most of this engine has been redeveloped, just to gain the little bit more horsepower and a better cultivated engine. Lepanto has however promised that the engine sound will still be quite brutal, thanks to their sound engineers. With this new V12 engine, the Lepanto 650 (as it will probably be named) can achieve speeds of over 330 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3 to 3.5 seconds.

The vehicle will be supplied with technology (ABS, ESP) that can always be turned off, like we're used to with Lepanto. The car is said to be superior in build quality to the VLT L7 Sport (the previous supersportscar by VLT), and will cost around 500,000 USD. The Lepanto will incorporate the best leather and interior products around, while the finest materials will be used to handcraft the vehicle at the Lepanto garages on the Via Lepanto in Venezia. Lepanto expects they can assemble around 200 vehicles of this car annually, and ensures that service is one of the most important words for Lepanto. For now, the only other Lepanto dealer in Van Luxemburg is on the Boulevard 5. Mee 1945. Due to the significant distance some customers will have to travel, the brand will offer a possibility to take the car from the owners' home, service it, and return it to the owner. For foreign owners, the Lepantos will be flown back to Van Luxemburg for maintenance once a year. The owner can also travel with his vehicle, to enjoy the Lepantos in venezia or take a special driving course on the Monteluci/Lepanto track in Moiano, inbetween Omignano and Venezia.

'Lepanto is an experience, not just a car. We hope the owner of such a vehicle will experience this. This new supercar is a special event, and we will handcraft the vehicle, as with every model, on the Via Lepanto. When the owner takes delivery of the car, he can make a test drive with the mechanic that does the final inspection, and, if required, ask for some last-minute touchups. If the driver needs to, he can always E-mail, or phone when the Lepanto factory is open, the mechanic that did the final inspection if he wants to consult him, and all of this will be free, it is all service of Lepanto. It does indeed take a lot of money and time, but we think that Lepanto is worth this.' according to Giancarlo Moretti, head of the Lepanto garage in Venezia.

A set introduction for the 650 has not yet been announced, but we can besure it is nearing.

Model Year 2008 Updates

For 2008, VLT has announced several small touchups for their vehicle range.

Starting January 1st, 2008, the brand will instate the following changes:

The L7 Sport’s production has been ceased. All remaining orders are to be finished, after which the special facility in Esch-sur-Alzette will continue producing regular L7’s. No announcements of a successor have been made.

The Monteluci Duca’s standard equipment will be amended. The MY2008 Duca comes with a Head-up Display, Adaptive Suspension (Sport and Normal setting), electric front and rear seating (instead of mechanical), a Ventilation seat option and better quality leather. All Monteluci Duca’s are henceforth available with paddleshifters (which were already available on the semi-automatic gearboxes on the V6 models). This option adds a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox to the car, and will cost $1,391 USD. The option is available on the non-V6 models.

VLT has also announced that it’s current line-up should be changed in the coming year, probably seeing new versions of multiple models. This is the reason that other VLT models will receive no MY2008 updates.

100 Monteluci Duca V8 for the Van Luxemburgian Autobahnpolizei

VENEZIA - Today, the Autobahnpolizei of Van Luxemburg, in cooperation with Automobili Monteluci S.p.A., announced the delivery of 100 modified Monteluci Duca's. They are to be put into service in the regions of Arvaglio, San Giustra, Weiningen and Sint Annabeek.

The vehicles make use of the 400 HP V8 engine also used in the Monteluci Duca SFS, but are modified 3.2 V6 Biturbo-based vehicles, to keep the cost of the vehicles down and preserve the exclusivity of the SFS. The 310 km/h fast vehicles will mainly be used to engage in high-speed interventions, pursuits or emergencies. The modified Duca's are one of the few vehicles within the Autobahnpolizei that are able to safely store a Heckler & Koch MP5 submachinegun.

The cars can be seen in operation with the Autobahnpolizei in Arvaglio, San Giustra and Weiningen starting October 10th, 2007.

Test: Monteluci Duca 3.2 V6 Biturbo

Monteluci has risen again, this time under the skilful command of VLT, which has recently launched it’s first Monteluci: The Duca. We test the most potent petrol version, the 330 HP V6 Biturbo, and see if it’s any good.

In the last years, Monteluci had completely collapsed. Sales, that is. It still managed to launch some impressive models, but it could never buyers to their showrooms. The image of the 1930’s Monteluci, with it’s racing legends and powerful sportscars, had vanished since the 1970’s, only leaving a vague silhouette of what the brand used to be. Since early 2007, Monteluci is protected under VLT’s powerful wings, and has come to make a remarkable improvement. The brand name now truly associates with racing and technology again, with it’s recently unveiled plans for entering international racing series. Also, this Biturbo is a perfect example of the new technology Monteluci will be delivering over the few coming years.

So, we’re having the Duca V6 Biturbo over for tea today. It is amazing what Monteluci has achieved within the few months that it is under the management from VLT, and we’re beginning to doubt if this was meant to be a Monteluci. On the outside, as well as on the inside, the car looks stunning, and it doesn’t seem to be using any inferior materials. The coupé lines are unusual for this type of vehicle, but it is gaining popularity, looking at VLT’s own L6 and L7. There are only a few disadvantages to these designs: the back seats’ headroom is usually limited, and the boot space is smaller than that of ‘regular’ models. We have no complaints about the headroom, however, but the boot space is indeed a tad small for such a car. Maybe wait for a station wagon version of the car, if you want some boot space.

Inside the vehicle, everything looks good, and feels like it has been thoroughly reliable and solid. The interior lay-out is well thought-out, and ergonomy is perfect, although some of the access buttons for the adaptive suspension could have better been added to the navigation controls behind the gear lever. But honestly, only grumpy people would have problems with that, or maybe if you’re a race driver (well, that’s the same, isn’t it? ~ Red.). The satnav itself, as well as the air-conditioning, are perfectly easy to control, and nobody on the redaction had any problems with operating it. Most systems on the Monteluci are entirely different from their VLT counterparts, underlining their semi-independence once again. Not a single VLT button or knob can be found, neither do any of the other parts look like they came from a VLT. There are no major flaws to be found in the interior, and the seats (comfortable Monteluci-designed sport seating) sit remarkably well, and the rear seats deserve a plus as well.

Turning the beautifully-styled key, the V6 produces an impressive growl, aggressive yet civilised. The sequential semi-automatic 7-speed gearbox, only on the Biturbo, shifts through it’s gear without any problems, and does it’s work precise and with a sportive accent. Even the automatic setting uses the concept of throttle between gear shifts, increasing the sportive feel of the Duca even more. When we take the Monteluci out on the open roads, we were very surprised. While the last few Monteluci’s under the old management had bad suspension, and didn’t drive that well, this new Monteluci drives like a full-fledged sportscar. Partly due to it’s double wishbone construction on both axles, the vehicle corners extremely good, and, while corners can be made at relatively high speeds, the vehicle’s acceleration is magnificent. Due to the interesting turbocharger construction, the Duca has little to no turbo lag, and clamps to the road as if it were on rails. The adaptive suspension does what it should do, although the automatic setting can be a bit problematic, with it doing some adaptations when you don’t want it to, but it’ll do just fine on the manual setting, especially when set to ‘Sport’ This does not only stiffen the suspension, it also causes the engine characteristics to change. The Duca becomes a four-door sportscar with a great engine sound, singing out of the two beautiful rear exhausts, placed on either side of the vehicle. The 4D system (optional, $2,128) makes the vehicle stable enough to withstand some serious aquaplaning, and can also be of help when taking the Duca out on the somewhat less paved roads, although this would be rare when driving a Duca. Accelerating is no problem for this Monteluci, as said before, and the vehicle is perfectly enjoyable on the tight, winding B-roads we drove on. Acceleration together with great driving dynamics, the Duca could outperform some more hard-core cars, if you would like to. However, since the buyer of a Duca is unlikely to fiddle with the settings of the suspension a lot, the standard setting is perfect for normal commuter traffic, while the driver can still enjoy himself on empty roads with the normal setting, in which the vehicle remains sportive enough to offer some great driving pleasure.

It feels just as home on the Autobahn as on the local B-roads, however. Even when on ‘Luxury’, the Duca covers up all bumps in the roads, making it as comfortable as a flying carpet. We couldn’t get to the magical top speed of 293 km/h due to traffic, but trust us, it does 250 km/h like you were doing only 120. In traffic jams, the Duca has no problems comforting the driver either, since the seating offers enough support, and while they are sport seats, it was comfortable throughout the lockup. The Bose sound system acts perfectly when trying to relax, producing soft, clear tones. When trying to discover what comes standard with this car, you are in for a surprise. Practically everything is standard, including satnav, climate control and leather upholstery. The best surprise is, that this is standard for every Duca, including the models with somewhat less potent motorization. The Duca can be yours for $27.211, for a 171 mHP 2 litre. This particular model, the Biturbo, is yours for $41.667, with an additional $2.128 for the 4-Wheel Drive bringing the price to $43.795.

- Stunning design
- Good quality
- Price
- Driving dynamics & power.

- Little boot space
- Small overall mistakes

VLT L3: the new small car.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/l3front.png
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/L3-1.png
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/l3int.png

Introduced in Esch-sur-Alzette in early 2009, the new VLT L3 is the car with the most experience of all: the name has been used for over 60 years, and will go into it’s 8th generation this year, with over 500 million examples built. The new generation VLT L3’s are equipped with fuel-efficient variable compression rate turbocharged engines and twin-clutch gearboxes, making them the greenest and quickest L3 to date.

The L3 is now equipped with the new VLT Group TCi engine technology, which are the greenest and most powerful petrol engines to ever feature in a VLT, with 1.0-2 litre engines developing 80-280 horsepower. More innovative developments have been included in the engine’s technology: it has a Stationary Shutdown System (3S), that automatically turns off the engine when standing at, for example, a red light. The engine starts again when pressure is applied on the accelerator pedal. Next to this, it has variable valve timing and a variable compression. This means that the engine can run at extremely high, Diesel-like efficiency levels, while still delivering maximum power to the driver. To increase power from a smaller displacement, a turbocharger and a supercharger were used to work together: the supercharger will mainly operate at low speeds to deliver horsepower and torque, and the turbocharger will take over above 2,500 rpm. If necessary, both can be used to force air into the engine when maximum power is required, for example during acceleration or on high (200+) Autobahn speeds. Furthermore, it is relatively easy to increase the engine’s power by a CPU modification, due to the use of turbo- and superchargers.

The Twin-Clutch Gearbox (TCG) makes use of two clutches instead of one. This allows the system to shift within 6 milliseconds, since it ‘lines up’ the next gear before shifting, making use of the second clutch. If necessary, the system can also be configured to work in automatic mode by the simple pressing of a button.

Inside the L3, a satellite navigation system is integrated in the instrument cluster, stretching into the center console. The interior was designed using high quality components, and offer a soft touch feel with elegant looks. A sliding sunroof has been included in the standard equipment, but also features solar panels that can allow the vehicle to preheat itself while the engine is not running. This can be very useful when the vehicle is parked outside, since it can cool the interior in summer, and heat it in winter. Next to this, several electric heating elements keep the engine heated and also prevents the windows from freezing over.

The VLT L3 is available from a price of $22,100, only marginally more expensive than the previous model. It can be ordered from all VLT dealerships after the 1st of March.

VLT L5

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/VLTL5.png
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/L5SW.png
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/VLT/L5intnew.png

The new VLT L5 was introduced together with the L3, and complements the new small car with a familiar face. Being a level up from the smaller L3, it sports several extra features, next to the innovations already introduced with the L3.

The L5 is now equipped with the new VLT Group TCi engine technology, which are the greenest and most powerful petrol engines to ever feature in a VLT, with 1.4-2 litre engines developing 160-280 horsepower.

Inside the L5, a satellite navigation system covers center console.
Unlike the L3, the L5 has an all-touch screen interior, in which systems can be operated complete by one finger, making it possible to scroll through dozens of screens by the slip of a finger. The satellite navigation system does not only offer a simple map view, but also has a 3D view possibility and an actualised satellite map database, made possible by a 500GB harddisk aboard the vehicle, which can also be used to store music, movies or even games, for the rear passengers’ enjoyment. The rear view mirror makes use of several cameras in the back of the vehicle to allow the driver to monitor his surroundings better than ever before, and even has an integrated blind spot monitor that sense movement on locations the driver cannot see from his seating position. This greatly increases security for both the driver and his passenger, and pedestrians. Furthermore, two cameras facing either left or right and mounted next to the front lights allow the driver to see around difficult corners, such as in built-up areas. The adaptive cornering lights further enhance the safety in corners by allowing the driver to see where he is going, by automatically moving the front lights together with the front wheels.

The VLT L5 is available from a price of $27,500, selling at around the same price as the previous model. It can be ordered from all VLT dealerships after the 1st of April, which is no joke..

Lepanto: Technological Strength through Beauty

Officially, Lepanto says that they do not focus on technological breakthroughs or supremacy in terms of speed anymore. What they want to is offer the driver a sense of being perfect, in a vehicle full of craftsmanship, indulged in seas of heritage. But, nowadays, it could well be they are starting to follow the latest trends again. With the 650 Moiano.

The Lepanto workshops are located in the ‘dry’ part of Venezia, on the Via Lepanto. It is an old, impressive building, where garage doors are unknown: the cars are rolled out of a wide double door next to the main entrance. Inside, the walls are not only filled with tools, but also with posters, paintings and objects that have to do with the impressive history of the 114-year old brand. Placed on an automobile lift, a Lepanto 650 Moiano is the centrepiece of this scene, it’s nose with the Lepanto logo pointing forward aggressively. As it is offloaded from the lift, the engine is started to slowly roll outside, where we can take over. The vehicle produces a deep growl, but when the engine revs, the growl changes into a high howling sound, which can send shivers down one’s spine.

Our destination today is the track of Moiano, after which this car was named. We are escorted by Giancarlo Moretti, head of the Lepanto garage in Venezia. He has been one of the key figures in the development of the 650, and therefore can tell us everything about the vehicle. ‘It was developed together with some experts from Monteluci, and we could also borrow their test track at Moiano. It is like back in the sixties, when Monteluci and Lepanto also cooperated. I guess VLT tries to bring back memories nowadays. We named the car Moiano to commemorate both the cooperation between the two Venezian brands in the sixties, aswell as thank Monteluci for the use of their test track. We will however also utilise it in the future, for development and training matters.’

The 6-litre V12 was mostly designed by Lepanto, but Moretti has also told us that we can expect that the base of this engine will also be used in future Monteluci’s. Sadly, he didn’t specify which ones, but our bets are currently on the Ducareale, which should be able to complement the VLT L7 in the top class. The V12 develops 650 horsepower, and is a naturally aspirated engine. ‘The use of turbochargers would be blasphemy for most customers in Van Luxemburg, so we have left it this way. The chance Lepanto will use turbocharger sin the future is minuscule’, according to Moretti.

The Moiano is completely handcrafted. Built by the best specialists that were trained within the confines of the Lepanto facility, the new Lepanto is said to set the standard for the next models of the brand. The factory builds about one vehicle per week, and can by far not meet the estimated production of 200 cars per year. ‘It’s more like 35 per year. But that way we can ensure there’s not a thing wrong with the car.’ Moretti says. And indeed, there’s nothing wrong with it, we cannot even find a stitch wrong in the vehicle. ‘We take a whole day for quality checks, and when the owner arrives to pick it up, we can always correct some things the owner wants. Ofcourse, the last-minute adjustments to the suspension can be made when the owner thinks they’re required. We expect that that possibility will only be used sporadically, but anything is possible here.’

Even while the vehicle is not adjusted to our personal wishes (since that is only for customers), the vehicle performed excellently on the track. While we try to ease on the corners, the Moiano has got an everlasting acceleration, and that, combined with the perfect suspension that can steer through the bends without a hitch, the vehicle seems to have the same speed as a UFO from outer space. With the throttle controlling a hyperdrive. The high howl of the 6-litre V12 rings out all over the track while the 650 accelerates and accelerates, reaching speeds of up to 280 km/h on the banked part of the track, we didn’t feel the need to push the needle of the speedometer any further, but even at that speed, the vehicle remained rock-steady, and only the sound of the vehicle reminded oneself of how fast he was driving.

Of course, one can place a few side notes at this vehicle: The price for this 650-HP V12 F430-and-599-GTB-beater is ridiculous, starting at around $500,000 USD. This $300,000 increase in price over an F430 Scuderia cannot even be justified by the quality and power of the vehicle. The exclusivity of this vehicle might also become a problem: with only two official dealerships in Van Luxemburg, supposed to sell to the whole world, most of the vehicle will probably remain in Van Luxemburg, even when Lepanto has a pick-up-and-return service for their vehicles abroad.

What we conclude from this first drive? The Lepanto is an excellent sportscar, maybe even supersportscar. But the high price and limited amount of retailers make it a bit prohibitive for the average millionaire.

M5 Fire vehicle

The VLT M5 6x6
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/VanLuxemburg/e87ea312.jpg
An early testbed for the M5 Fire Vehicle: A Mercedes-Benz Axor 4x2

After several complaints from domestic fire services that they needed a fire vehicle that could fulfil their needs, VLT went to work with the VLT M5. The original version, a military truck, was completely modified to be a specialised fire vehicle that could fulfil the needs of the modern fire service. The personnel at VLT Custom first removed the complete cab of the vehicle, so that only the chassis remained to build on. On this, they rebuilt the vehicle, using a new concept for the Van Luxemburgian market, only utilised by several Fire Departments around the nation. The combination of a aerial ladder and a pumper vehicle makes it extremely versatile, and also a great alternative for Fire Departments who do not have the need or the manpower for the multiple vehicles that are combined into one here.

Installed on the chassis of the 6x6 M5 truck was an aerial ladder (skylift), on top of the storage compartments that were installed before. These includes all necessities for a firefighting vehicle, such as a variable (flexible) water tank that can take up to 3000 litres of water. The high-power pump (a Pabst P6000) installed on the vehicle can take some 6000 litre/min, either from the vehicles water tank or an alternative water source (such as a fire hydrant or even a lake). Onboard the vehicle a One/Seven system has also been installed: Due to a water/foam compound, an extinguishing volume of about seven times the normal size can be achieved. This system (Pabst OS3500) can extinguish up to 3540 ltr/min, while only utilising 440 litres of water per minute at the same time.

The Aerial Ladder installed onboard can be remotely controlled and can reach heights of up to 30 metres. It can be used to put out fires from heights, or transport firemen to high-up places such as high-rise buildings. Installed on the basket is a Pabst WM1500 turret that can put out water at a rate of 1500 litres a minute, and can be controlled either by hand or by remote control. On the vehicle 3 light mounts have been made, two search lights have been mounted on the ladder basket and the front of the vehicle respectively, while a stronger light mast has been installed on the back of the vehicle. This mast can be highered for approximately 5 metres, in order to light the scene.

Inside the vehicle, the cab offers place for 9 crewmembers and their gear, including the driver and vehicle commander. The vehicle is equipped with an Emergency Vehicle Information System (EVIS), which can receive mission details, assist the commander in planning the mission, monitor the status of the crewmembers (and their breathing systems), and also has a Crash Recovery System that can show the commander all specifics of a vehicle, as well as how it can be cut open.

Walter Autotechnologie was set to work on the specifics of the lighting systems and sirens, and returned with the proposal to fit it with a low-profile LED-lightbar. LED Grille flashers are complemented by strobe flashers in the headlights, aswell as LED flashers on the front-facing side of the mirrors. On the back of the vehicle, LED flashers have also been placed, aswell as a traffic advisor to control traffic behind the vehicle.

Ofcourse, the vehicle is equipped with all the systems originally delivered on the M5. They include the advanced hydropneumatic suspension system HPVS, with all of the respective systems belonging to it. Due to the ground clearance and all-wheel drive, the M5 firetruck can also be used offroad or on bad road conditions.

VLTC C-5, ECVC-5 ‘Ascendance’

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/Dartia/Whisper2005-12-06206.jpg

History

The Ascendance originates from the concept of a solar-powered bus deep in the bowels of the Design Bureau of the East Carriage Vehicle Company (ECVC). The Design Bureau had originally envisioned a vehicle which would have been powered both by the rays of the sun and be able to recharge during the day and night via wheel movement. However, the East Carriage Vehicle Company had difficulty in acquiring the capacity and technology to develop solar-powered technology to a practical level. So in the four-star-rated Hotel de la Poste, in the VLT Automotive birthplace of Esch-sur-Alzette, an industrious city near Luxembourg, a meeting was commenced one peaceful, hot summer, post-Second War of Corporatist Aggression. Over several glass bowls of rainbow-sprinkled, vanilla, Belgian chocolate and strawberry ice cream banana split, a collaborative effort of a deal was born. While the latter idea was incorporated into the final Ascendance plan, the ideal of a primarily-solar-powered bus was abandoned after a long duration of debate between the Van Luxemburgian Transportation Automotive Group and the ECVC.

Why was this friendliness to the environment envisioned?

That day was hotter than usual, far hotter than any other day. The argument of global warming/climate change and its associated topics was significantly picking up steam in places like the Republic of Pacitalia. It was an event where the odds were in favor of the business delegates of the Southeast Asian automobile manufacturer. The Van Luxemburgian corporate institution, had a different opinion of “environmentally-friendly vehicles” like hybrids, but nevertheless was convinced into going along with the ECVC Design Bureau’s vision. Business was business, for both corporations, and combined with VLT capacity and Southeast Asian innovation, the seeds for the C-5 Ascendance were sowed and the fruits reaped.

Finally, as the back-story comes to a close…why the name “Ascendance”?

Well, the answer to that also lay in global warming. According to one Southeast Asian who worked on the Ascendance and prefers not to be named, he stated that the name lay in the vision itself. “It had always been a dream of mine, and for the rest of this team, to be part of the new generation to face new and ever daunting challenges…as I had noticed in my school days, people often looked to the past to set an example and as a guideline to grow and change…it is a belief that global warming is a challenge humanity has to deal with, and though it may be late for that, we believe that we can prevent it or at least mitigate its consequences. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, technology has been always advancing higher and higher...and humans have always found somebody to be their leader and to emulate…as I feel that we have ascended so high and that great leaders have brought us to these areas to pioneer…why not use the word ‘Ascendance’? I proposed it, and it simply stuck…my Southeast Asian comrades and Van Luxemburgian counterparts simply could not have decided on a better word.”

And there you have it…the Ascendance. A perfectly environmentally-friendly bus with reasonable cost-efficiency and maintenance, and in several variants. A choice for paragons in public transportation industry to choose, and combat global warming.

”The innovation of automobile design proactivity sets examples for Asia and the world, and a brighter future."—Motto of the East Carriage Vehicle Company.

Technology

The technology of the Ascendance is innovative to say the least. The bus is propelled by two electric wheels, mounted in place of the normal rear wheels. These wheels propel the bus by moving the rotor around the stator, causing the wheels to move forwards or backwards. The wheels are powered by a set of 28 Lithium-Ion batteries, set up in four rows of seven batteries each, placed inside an air conditioned and soundproofed container. These batteries supply 130 Ah, and can be recharged in 2.5 hours per individual battery. Recharging is done by generating energy from the movement of the wheels, which can be complemented by the energy generated by the Diesel Generator mounted in the same closed container as the Lithium-Ion batteries. The Generator’s exhaust fumes are filtered by a particle eliminator, which will filter out 90% of all large particles and 50% of the finest particles. The remaining particles is everything what the bus produces in terms of exhaust fumes.

Due to this technology, the bus is extremely silent. Running practically on electric energy alone (since the APU is only used when the energy level in the batteries is dangerously low), the bus only produces some 50 decibel, instead of the 78 decibels produced by an average city bus. The bus has no transmission, since the speed is regulated by using the throttle pedal, which increases the voltage used by the wheel-mounted electrical engines. Braking and reversing is simple: the electric engines will run backwards, causing the bus to move backwards, or slow down. All of this technology is monitored by a single CPU, regulating everything from the traction control to the air conditioning, as well as the propulsion and the battery recharging. In the unlikely case of CPU failure, a backup CPU can take over the first CPU it’s task, although with a reduced amount of functions (no air conditioning, for example). It is almost impossible that both CPU’s would fail at the same time, but the bus can be driven without either of the two CPU’s, although the speed will be governed to 10 km/h, and only the most vital functions will remain. This is to prevent irreversible damage to the electric propulsion systems.

In terms of servicing, the vehicle’s complete set of batteries can be replaced within an hour, and the wheel-mounted electric engines can be replaced in 2.5 hours. However, all parts are set-up to work flawlessly for 1.000.000 (one million) kilometres. There are also benefits in price, since the Ascendance is energy-efficient. While a normal (diesel-powered) bus costs some $250,000 in lifespan energy costs to operate, and a Diesel-hybrid with ‘proven’ technology will cost some $270,000 to operate, the Ascendance can be operated for only $40,000 when working solely on batteries, and even when the APU is used full-time, the vehicle will not cost more than $100,000 in lifespan energy costs. While the Ascendance is as expensive as a ‘normal’ Diesel-Hybrid, the operator will earn some $230,000 when he operates the Ascendance, instead of a ‘normal’ Diesel-Hybrid.

In terms of comfort, the Ascendance is as comfortable as any bus, with air conditioning, a disabled-friendly entrance, as well as special seats for disabled. The bus is also equipped with an information system, which shows the actual timetable to the passenger, as well as possible delays. The driver can use an advanced navigation system, developed specifically for buses. This means that the system will choose routes that are best for buses, and avoid narrow roads where the Ascendance won’t fit. For comfort reasons, the bus is also fitted with air suspension, which can cover up any bumps and smooth out the ride, allowing the passengers to relax and focus on their own affairs. For regional or interregional buses, the Ascendance can be equipped with a DVD entertainment system, with large screens mounted in central positions. For hygienic reasons, the bus has no carpets, but is equipped with linoleum instead. The seats are made of fabric, but can be made out of artificial leather, which bears very close resemblance to real leather, while keeping the price down. The advantage of leather is that it can be easily cleaned, and is not easily damaged.

With production facilities in Van Luxemburg (The VLT factories in Heerenveen and Saint-André-de-Corcy assemble all technical components and propulsion systems into a basic chassis) and Southeast Asia (The East Carriage Vehicle Company factories in Phumi Tapou assemble the coachwork and interior, and finish the bus). The price of the Ascendance is $250,000 USD, if the operator requires a DVD entertainment system, this will add $3500 to the cost, and artificial leather costs $5200 USD. The Ascendance can be fitted to individual needs, please inquire for the possibilities.

With the Alzette, VLT fills the gap between the relatively cheap Roadster and the extremely exclusive and equally expensive Lepanto 650. Project ‘Alzette’, as it was called in it’s earlier years, shall be semi-handbuilt on a production line in Esch-sur-Alzette, and be retailed and serviced through the VLT Sales Network.

VLT used a modified 4.4 litre V8 for the ‘Alzette Project’. The V8 from the L5 GT was placed amidships in the sportscar, in a transverse position. The gearbox was mounted up-front to improve the weigh distribution to a near-perfect 49/51. The V8 itself was further improved by modifying the ECU and perfecting the inlet and exhaust trajectories.

The design was made by the VLT Design Center, in cooperation with the independent Brandt Studios, making it a bit different from the usual VLT design. The chassis was developed with assistance from Lepanto, to ensure it would have the desired road holding capabilities. The vehicle was kept as light as possible, with extensive use of carbon fibre, plastics, aluminium and titanium. All unnecessary luxuries have been left out, and the vehicle has been aerodynamically optimized so that it produces enough downforce to leave out a rear spoiler.

Inside, the vehicle will have the least possible amount of technology installed, to purify the driving experience delivered by the Alzette. Even though ABS and ESP are standard on the Alzette, they can be completely turned off by a simple push of a button. The chassis is simple, and made up out of independent front and rear suspension, with double wishbones. The Brembo ceramic brakes can stop the car in mere meters.

RTVL quick news update
VLT and Monteluci Press Conference 'Later this week'

ESCH-SUR-ALZETTE/LUXEMBOURG - Van Luxemburger car manufacturer VLT Automotive has called for a press conference to occur 'later this week'. They have already announced a place: The 116th Concours d'Élegance in the Palace gardens in Luxembourg, Van Luxemburg. The press conference will take place in the auditorium of the Grand-Ducal Palace. While the time has not yet been disclosed, VLT announced that major guests will include the Grand Duke of Van Luxemburg and the Monteluci family, which points us in the direction of a major development within the Monteluci brand.

So far, Monteluci has also invited several highly esteemed journalists to the same Concours d'Élegance for a 'private presentation'. Once again, the presence of the Grand Duke has been confirmed, which is not unusual, since the Concours takes place on the private property of the Grand-Ducal Family.

Updates to follow as the story develops.

Subject: Acquisition of VLT L5 Sedans

Good day,
Recently the Royal Office of Civil Protection authorized the acquisition of 1,720,000 patrol cars to complement our current fleet. VLT Automotive, being a established manufacturer, is obviously our first choice.

I have been authorized to procure 1,720,000 VLT L5 1.8 Turbo, however there are some requirements that must be met before the ROCP authorizes the purchase.

We would like to know if you could accomodate the following requests:
-Addition of Two-Color Blue/Red LED Lightbar and Flashers
-Addition of Wail/Yelp Siren
-Addition of Radio, GPS, and computer system wirings
-Removal of CD Changer, Radio and associated equipment
-Removal of 8.8Inch Monitors
-Replacement of 19" Alloy Wheels by 19" Steel Heavy Duty Wheels
-Replacement of Sport Seats by Heavy Duty Seats
-Replacement of Three-spoke sports leather steering wheel by Heavy Duty Steering Wheel
-Removal of Leather Upholstery
-Addition of custom ROCP paint scheme

We would also like to know if the 1.8 Turbo version can be adapted to run on ethanol or hydrogen (internal combustion hydrogen system), preferably the latter.

Please feel free to contact me with any inquiries that you may have regarding these specifications.

Thank you,

Dear Ma'am,

After some elaboration of your order, we cam eup with the following ideas, which we will explain by your wish list:

-Addition of Two-Color Blue/Red LED Lightbar and Flashers OK
-Addition of Wail/Yelp Siren OK
-Addition of Radio, GPS, and computer system wirings OK
-Removal of CD Changer, Radio and associated equipment OK
-Removal of 8.8Inch Monitors OK
-Replacement of 19" Alloy Wheels by 19" Steel Heavy Duty Wheels We would advise to make the wheel size smaller for police use. 16" will be more comfortable and cheaper
-Replacement of Sport Seats by Heavy Duty Seats OK. The seats will be changed to a special seating solution taht will fit the individual policeman
-Replacement of Three-spoke sports leather steering wheel by Heavy Duty Steering Wheel OK. We recommend that the steerign wheel will be replaced by a standard solution that also offers control of sirens, lights and radio.
-Removal of Leather Upholstery We would recommend against this. Leather is easy to clean, and is practically wear- and tear resistant. This can be useful when dealing with violent offenders.
-Addition of custom ROCP paint scheme OK
-Perhaps one would be interested in mounting a screen between the front and the back seat, so that the rear seat passengers are unable to attack the driver?
- Chiptuning is an easy solution to get more power out of these vehicles. an increase of ~30 PS is possible for a turbocharged engine, at a cost of around $1000.

If we take all these wishes into account, we can deliver an individual vehicle for $31,000. A price cut becuase of the large order has already been included. This means that the complete order of 1.720.000 vehicles will cost $55,040,000,000.

We hope these terms are acceptable.

ESCH-SUR-ALZETTE - VLT presented it's new logo in a short press conference in the VLT Tower today. The new logo replaces the old 'diagonal' logo in the national colours.

'The new one is fresh, modern. It shows that we like to adjust to the time we live in.' Kristin Becker, of VLT's Board of Directors, commented on the logo change. She stated that the logo was 'well-received' within the company.

All VLT dealerships and authorized points will change to the new logo in the coming months. All VLT communications will take place with the use of the new logo.

Subject: Safety Car

Dear Sir,

During races, it is sometimes necessary to deploy a safety vehicle to keep the racing drivers at a slower pace for several laps. Although the racing vehicles follow this slow pace with ease, the pace is very high for a production vehicle. Proper speed must be maintained to keep the race vehicles' tires warm.

SuperFormula series is interested in purchasing three safety cars. The ideal vehicle is a roadster or midsize coupe capable of lapping an FIA-rated circuit at speeds above 125 KPH. These vehicles should be equipped with a lightbar (with separate green and yellow lights) and racing harnesses. Two vehicles will serve as pace vehicles, and the third will act as an emergency transport with room for two passengers, emergency medical gear, and a stretcher.

Would it be possible to adapt an appropriate vehicle? Please inform me of the cost.

To: Noris Envoy, Race Director, SuperFormula Series
Subject: RE: Safety Car

Dear Sir,

We have been studying your request intensively, and we came to the conclusion that the best option for the SuperFormula Series would be two different vehicles. The first of them will be the VLT Alzette (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13257411&postcount=28), a 467 bhp sportscar. Even while cars such as the L4 Coupé and VLT Roadster might be alternatives for this order, we would advise the Alzette, as we think it currently has the best chassis and steering of any VLT. A racing-style harness is standard, four-point seatbelts on both seats. For the safety car conversion, we will utilise a Pabst LB-25LED low-profile lightbar, of which the blue LEDs will be exchanged for green ones. Amber/orange lights are already included. This will come at an extra cost of $1500.

The Alzette however has one problem: it will never have enough space to allow a driver, two passengers and a stretcher to be safely transported across a race track. Therefore, we have chosen the VLT L10 3.5 V6 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13239787&postcount=15) to perform medical vehicle duties. This vehicle will be equipped with a standard First Response Medical Vehicle. This comes at the extra cost of $18,000.

The total cost of this order, if accepted, would come to $310,338 USD. The vehicles can be made as a high-priority order, meaning they can be delivered within one month.

Mr. Schmidt,

I agree with your suggestion of the VLT Alzette. The specifications and the alterations you mentioned indicate that it will be a fine safety car.

I'm sure that the VLT L10 3.5 V6 would be a suitable medical car, but I have a suggestion. Would it be possible to convert the VLT L5 Wagon for the purpose? Please compare these choices and provide your opinion.

You may be pleased to learn that the VLT safety vehicles will tour the world supporting each SuperFormula Grand Prix, visiting 23 countries on six continents. The Alzette is guaranteed to make an appearance at the start of each of the 29 scheduled Grands Prix (as well as any necessary caution periods) and will be seen by an average of 50 million television viewers per race.

Dear Sir,

Considering your requirements, we think you may be correct in saying that the VLT L5 Wagon is a better fit for the SuperFormula series. The L5 V8 GT Wagon would be the best choice in this: It's 450 hp engine can meet with the Alzette in terms of power. Therefore, it will be ideally suited to perform medical vehicle duties on a race track. This vehicle will be equipped with a standard First Response Medical Vehicle. Payment has been wired ($310,338 USD). Please note that the payment has been sent via an international intermediary. Although the SuperFormula World Series has headquarters in Havl, national regulations necessitate all business transactions be transferred to our international office.

There are a few aesthetic issues worth mentioning. For our purposes, the cars should be silver or white. The vehicles should be devoid of extraneous badges. Only the standard vehicle badges should be present. Additional identification decals will be affixed to the hood, doors, and rear deck lid of each vehicle.

It may be of note to you that retired SuperFormula champion Jody Hödem will pilot the safety car. He won the 2008 championship with the team now known as VLT-Arthur.

Subject: RE: Inquiry

Dear Sir,

We are honoured that we are allowed to fulfill your requirements. We have decided to walk you through our offerings, to get you an idea of what these vehicles can be used for.

VLT L2 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13204239&postcount=6): A small car that can be used in narrow streets. Ideal for police and medical first response tasks in a (old) city.

VLT L3 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13204254&postcount=7): One step up from the L2, the L3 is a somewhat larger vehicle that is on par with the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. It can be used as a low-cost police and medical response vehicle, or serving as the vehicle of a chief firemen. The Van Luxemburger Kommunalpolizei often uses these cars as the backbone of their police force in low-intensity police districts.

VLT L4 Convertible (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13204277&postcount=8): This vehicle is often used by the Van Luxemburger Autobahnpolizei. With the roof open, it can accomodate a standing policeman, for example to do set up a speed trap (with a lasergun), and still allow quick getaway possibilities.

VLT L5 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13231412&postcount=10): This vehicle can be used in all three roles, be it policing, medical rapid responders, or chief fireman rapid intervention vehicles. It is often the backbone of the larger police districts, and also the Autobahnpolizei, who are often equipped with GT models to cope with the higher speeds on the motorways. A stationwagon vehicle of the VLT L5 can be equipped with a foam extinguishing system to serve as a rapid responder for fire departments.

VLT L6 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13231438&postcount=11): A higher-class vehicle that is often used with Van Luxemburgs' Police Special Response Units, but also as Autobahnpolizei patrol vehicle, and for medical and firefighting vehicles that are often deployed on the motorway. Undercover police units can also use this vehicle.

VLT L7 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13231453&postcount=12): Again, often used by Police counter-terrorism teams, and Autobahnpolizei units. It is often too expensive for normal policing tasks in cities and rural areas, and we would suggest limiting this vehicle to perhaps undercover unit use.

VLT L9 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13239785&postcount=14): This SUV can be used by all services, especially in rough terrain or mountaineous areas. In the case of a firefighting vehicle, a compact foam-based extinguishing system can be installed to allow for a rapid response to fires.

VLT L10 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13239787&postcount=15): This vehicle is also often used by Van Luxemburger police units, mainly because of it's space. Due to this space, it can also be equipped as a small ambulance, even though there is little overall space available to amenities such as larger medical equipment (e.g. defibrillator). Fire vehicles can once again be equipped with a compact foam-based extinguishing system. The vehicle is however of limited use in rough terrains, since it lacks the required ground clearance.

VLT Roadster (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13239789&postcount=16): This vehicle could be of use to the motorway police units in Ark Ivira, like used in Van Luxemburg. As described before, it can be used to set up speed traps that can intervene immediately, since the laser gun can be utilised from inside the vehicle.

Monteluci M6 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13005158&postcount=1): Even though this vehicle is commonly utilised in several militaries around the world, the M6a can be rebuilt in such a way that it can be an ambulance, with space to spare. The price for such a rebuild is currently $100,000, excluding the M6. This means that for $132,000, a complete civilian M6 ambulance is ready for service. In case required, the M6 can also be modified in such a way that it can be used as a fully capable firetruck, the cost of this would be about the same.

Monteluci Duca (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13603318&postcount=1): Also often used by police and medical services in Van Luxemburg. At around the same price as the VLT L5, it is an excellent alternative. The V8 SFS version would also be a perfect opportunity to equip your motorway police with a powerful saloon car. An armoured version is also available, in case police forces need to operate in a dangerous environment or need these vehicles to transport important persons from one place to another. The E and VIP version are more heavily armoured than any VLT can be, since these vehicles are specifically constructed into armoured cars.

VLT M5 Firetruck (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13255737&postcount=24): A logical choice for firefighters in Ark Ivira. It is remarkably cost-efficient, thanks to the unique ladder/pumper combination. This allows for a more versatile vehicle at less cost, since your fire departments will no longer have to buy 2 vehicles, and can do with a single M5 firetruck.

We hope that we have sufficiently informed you with this walkthrough of our model line-up. In case you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them.

At Celsan Motors, we and our sister firm Balna would like to rebadge some of your vehicles as your own.

Post some photos of some and we will take it into consideration.

We will offer to let you rebrand some of our vehicles in return.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Even though we appreciate your inquiry at VLT Automotive, we are sorry to say that we will have to turn down this offer. The unique identities represented in the VLT Group are not to be copied by other manufacturers. This also applies to rebadging principles, a thing VLT Automotive currently refuses to take part in.

We wish to attend you that if you decide to illegally copy VLT products and patents, legal action will be taken by our lawyers.

In case you are still interested in our offerings, feel free to browse through our model range presented in the second post of this webspace.

Re: investment

We, Smith Armory, an arms manufacturer of some note from the Confederacy of Defense Corporations, would like to invest in you. Specifically, we propose an engine factory be built in Van Luxembourg, run by (and for) both of us. Smith Armory would invest 60% of the money needed for the land purchase and factory construction, and would pay for 30% of factory operations - i.e., we would run and pay for 30% of the factory itself. Any surplus capacity could be leased from us to you for up to 8 months at a time, in exchange for your paying the associated operating costs and a fee derived from the percentage of the factory you would be leasing from us. Naturally, your labor standards would be maintained; we are willing to sacrifice our lower operating costs in exchange for additional sources of supply for the engines that power our artillery vehicles, along with an additional potential source of revenue.

OOC - how visibly corrupt are you? I'd like to know if Smith Armory would consider it likely that VLT would be willing to influence a defense procurement contract in exchange for opening up local markets.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Even though we appreciate your inquiry at VLT Automotive, we are sorry to say that we will have to turn down this offer. The Grand Duchy of Van Luxemburg currently has no need for another VLT component factory, seeing we do not need the capacity of such a facility. Next to this, we do not wish to disclose our industrial secrets regarding the construction and design of VLT engines.

(OOC: VLT is 25% government-owned, and 51% is owned by the Grand Duke (private). Per definition, it is not a corrupt company, especially because of the government influence. I'm not finding it very likely that VLT would influence the government to buy foreign weapons, especially not because the company is involved in almost every domestic weapons deal, in one way or another. That'd be supplying engines or even entire vehicles, be it land, air or sea-based weaponry.)

Re: Inquiry

We understand your reasoning behind the rejection of this offer, and appreciate that you considered it in good faith. We would like to clarify that we would have maintained a 'Chinese wall'-style separation of your company's facilities and ours, in which we would ensure in the formal contract that we would never attempt to examine your side of the factory, even forwarding the design of our 30% of the factory to an independent group of architects our two corporations would jointly hire. We thought that such a separation would go without saying; in an agreement such as that which we were proposing, proper protections for industrial secrets would be paramount, for obvious reasons. Once again, thank you for considering our offer.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Van Luxemburg's automotive market is currently operated via the 'free market' principle. We are not responsible in any way for the number of brands and vehicles being offered besides our own model range on the local market. Fiat-Salbruz is free to enter the Van Luxemburger market, as long as their products meet Van Luxemburger requirements in regards to safety.

VLT is always extremely interested in exporting it's motor vehicles to other nations; we would recommend you to use the following form for this, so we can get back to you properly.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Van Luxemburger safety standards require a new car to meet a EuroNCAP test rating of 3 stars, or equivalent crash result, at least. This is, due to the high speeds often driven on Van Luxemburger roads, vital for every new car sold in the Grand Duchy.

To complete the exports form, we require applicants to follow these instructions, and we quote:

If you would like to have a VLT Automotive Dealership network in your nation, please send your inquiry to:

VLT Automotive Group N.V. – Sales Division
International VLT House
Rue Grand-Ducale
P.O. Box 1278
87120 LP ESCH-SUR-ALZETTE
http://www.vlt-automotive.vl/international
h.schmidt@vlta-sales.vl

If you want to file an inquiry, please state the following:

-Number of dealerships
-Expected sales number
-Short description of your automobile market.
-Possibility of a VLT Automotive Factory to be built in your nation.

We will answer as quickly as possible, with the result of your inquiry.

Like Fiat-Salbruz, the same requirements on vehicle safety apply, and we would like to attend you on the fact that, even though Van Luxemburg is a large market, the populace generally demands high quality vehicles and the common perception is that this level of quality can only be offered by Van Luxemburger and European automobile manufacturers. The same applies to the motoring press in the Grand Duchy. Foreign manufacturers are to expect low sales in the first few years, especially if quality does not meet Van Luxemburger standards.

It is company policy to establish a factory only when the nation has enough sales potential for VLT products. It is not beneficial for us to export these cars again to other nations around the world. Also, please be aware of the fact that VLT prefers to build it's own factories, so it meets its demands and requirements in order to build VL-grade automobiles.

We would like to purchase the following to re-equip the Anemos Rei Metropolitan Police Force (thus requiring police modifications on all vehicles).
