Big practise rp war planning/sign up thread
The Northern Baltic

After seeing someone offering to play against a new player, I decided to expand that idea and create a group rp war. The point would be to teach new nations how to rp correctly so we can avoid having (as all of us have experienced) bad rpers. This thread is for new nations to sign up and I guess each new nation will have (if we have enough) a mentor.
So my idea is this war will be on an island that is abundant in resources and each nation will have a piece of the island to begin with with connection to the sea (in order to bring more weapons and manpower in). So you have any ideas or anything, throw them in.

Oh and something for the mentors; try not to push your student nations into accepting this political ideal or joining that alliance or buying from this storefront. This is simply so they can learn the basics of rping. Try to keep your nation's ideals out of it.

I'll be a mentor nation
Could I see a sample of your rping skill? Don't feel singled out. The reason I didn't ask for the others to show their rping skill is that I have fought with them multiple times. Just make something up if you cannot find anything.

02-10-2007, 02:30
Reasons for war? I could get philosophical here, but I won't ;).
Seeing as how Kalmurstan is pretty much nought but tundra and boreal forest, my forces would most likely be there to grab some better land for growing crops, the proverbial breadbasket if you will.
As for the war, a massive resource grab on an empty island by several nations at once isn't impossible to imagine, but realistically, one or more nations already having a presence on the island, be it through gathering the resources, scientific study or whatever is most likely. This could be both an advantage (already have some form of supply line in place, better local knowledge etc.) and disadvantages (Probability of civilians needing evacs, military unprepared for major deployment there and suchlike).
Obviously, the size of the island as well as the kind and distribution of resource it holds would impact objectives, as would any pre-existing structures, be they civilian or military.
There's some other stuff I thought of before I started bashing the keys that's slipped my mind now. It'll come back to me sooner or later, and when it does I'll be sure I jot it down quickly.
Hope my ramblings help some :)

Well I'd say it would be easiest if the island were independent and the massive land grab started because of the discovery of a large platinum deposit as well as several offshore oil sites. I have a possible map of the island. I'll put it up in a few seconds.

I was hoping we could do this multiple times so we don't end up with a large population of new nations that don't know how to rp well.

Land grab should be fine, gives everyone the same sort of level playing field. Out of interest, with the map is that scale accurate, or are we going to bump the dimensions up some? Just thinking 20km coast to coast might be a bit small if it's more than a one-on-one, and even then would be cutting it close.
Yeah I am going to make the island much larger then it actually is there. Thanks for pointing that out though.

Hey, sign me up. I'm not new to NS, and I'm not new to RP, but I am new to RPing in NS, and as far as I can tell, it's a bit different from the rest of what I've done. I have two nations, a peaceful, democratic Federation (Rabarac), and a corporation with imperial ambitions (Kathria). I'm personally more invested in Rabarac, but Kathria would be fun to play. You tell me which one you want; a belligerent corporate army or a peaceful, even lightly-defended nation to be invaded initially. Both sound appealing to me.

Yay, more OpFor! As for who it is, 'tis a difficult call, and one that only you can make. I'm up for fighting a corporate army, being a quasi-communist nation, although crushing a nice, friendly nation under my standard-issue boot seems good too. It's kinda hard to choose, but I'm leaning towards the corporate army, they're normally the kind of people who'd set up camp and strip-mine for dirt given half a chance, so real resources to farm would be a bonus to them ;)

Ahem, last time I leave the laptop near the cat...
What that should've said is how close are you to sorting out who owns what chunk of the island, because if I look into the details of another tank, APC, IFV I think I'll scream.
At least my forces are sorted, so the mind-numbing string of crew numbers, hp/tonne, support percentages and payload figures weren't for nothing ;)

I should like to start with my Muri emerging from the mountain on the peninsula between the two bays I can't quite make out the names of-it's far enough from major roads(or are those yellow lines rivers?) we could probably seize the entire peninsula and gather intel for quite a time before we realize what we're up against--and vice versa. If this is supposed to be a short game, we could easily claim the golf course instead-this would take out major communications as we'd nap all the leaders and movers-and shakers in one fell swoop, but would limit RP. My preference would be the Mountain and spreading out, perhaps claiming one or two people as would leave the island dependant upon second-stringers. Unless there's some top secret crap where I'd lay claim, I'd happily limit myself to a Stone Age understanding with the understanding we're going to improve as time goes on-the Muri will not innovate, but will find out where innovations are made and target it first--once again the understanding is this is the beginning and Muri strides will be limited by the mods and such advise as our mentor brings us.

My army, airforce and navy are pretty much nailed down, right down to what would be deployed on-site prior to the war (since we all had a piece, I guessed we'd have a smallish force defending our stake), what can be deployed quickly, and what can be deployed, period (I had waaay too much free-time this weekend :P).
As for starting zones, I'm OK being placed anywhere, but ideally in the NE of the island as Thumb Point looks nice and defendable. But yeah, I'm ready to drop my forces anywhere that's given to me.
I should mention, Northern Baltic, that it will be Kathria, and not Rabarac, participating here.
Will our nations already own land on the island or are we all invading outright? Is there some background for this island (Treaty Organizations, regional government, etc.)? If we all begin with established land, will we RP the beginning of the war, or be flung in media res, as it were? If we're invading, what on earth is so valuable about this island? I'm basically trying to get a sense of the political climate of the island and of the war, which will, of course, be integral to my initial strategy.

I could be a mentor nation. I know Leo and I didn't have a great rping expierence together, mainly due to my lack of clarification, but I think he'll agree that I am not a noob and I know that BL can vouch for my RPing skills. Or I could be on the "noob's" side, for evening of numbers and for them to have a mentor on their side.

Okay I have the starting positions on the map. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l158/comradecaptan/WaihekeMapboundery1.gif if anyone has a problem with them, talk to me, though it better be good because I don't really want to change it until after the war starts.
As for the situation; each of your nations purchased a piece of the island with promises of mineral wealth, but the government who is still in control of the bulk of the island, lied to you and the pieces you have don't really have resources. However, in the parts of the island controlled by the government that controls the island, several large mineral deposits have been uncovered and they're worth billions of dollers.
The island is about 150 miles long and 100 miles wide at the widest point. You would each start off with a small garrison of men, but the numbers would increase as the conflict goes on, naturally. Me or one of the other mentors will probably be playing as the government in charge of the island.
As for the background of the island, the island was first inhabbited by natives, but abandoned later years for reasons that remain unknown. The Portugeese colonized the island first, but did not really establish it as a colony, which is probably why the British were able to take over in later years. Having earned her independence from England rather early, the island, nonetheless, remained a monarchy. The Cornwall family has had possesion of the throne for hundreds of years, but small scale democracy is practised.
The island is located in the South Pacific and controls a number of offshore gas and oil platforms, which provide a significant percentage of the island's wealth.
